Couldnt agree more, Baldurs Gate 3 absolutely spoiled us. I could probably spend the next year on it with the various ways there are to play and things to discover.
I mean we knew this 6 months ago. Bethesda needs to mix up their formula, ever larger bland empty worlds are not the answer. Ambition in RPGs needs to include interactivity and story flexibility, memorable characters, and engaging systems.
Starfield is NOT empty 🤣 so many epic quests so much adventure its A game I was waiting for I'm over 32 hours in and not even at the half of the main quest yet its very good and quite addictive. You should give it A try Bethesda RPG's have been critically reviewed to be some of the best all time and Starfield was made by the same team that made Skyrim which won 250 Game Of The Year awards including game of the year
In BG3 you see through the layers of complexity and how the developers have actively tried to plan for everything a player might do and adjust the game accordingly but in starfield you don't really feel as though you have many choices unless the game presents it to you, for example say you come across a character in BG3 who rubs you the wrong way and you decide to kill them, the game fully lets you do this and may even have built around the character's death a series of reactions from your party and the world so that you would feel the consequences of killing that character even if they were tied to important questlines, but in starfield if you kill a character like that or try to the game will not allow you to kill them if they are tied to quests no matter how many bullets or bombs you hit them with and this freedom limiting philosophy is part of what holds Bethesda's games back from a narrative perspective.
Given the state of many game studios and publishers and what they are releasing as a finished product, Balders Gate may even deserve game of the decade.
As the state of rn i think a lil too many bugs and a kind of weak act three. Act 1 and 2 i definitely agree. I mean ppl try to be edgy and act like its a bad game while played 150+hrs. And i dont really get it. A game is allowed to have a certain amount of mistakes, slip ups and bugs, compared to its bigness. A shallow EA or Unisoft game with no depths at all has more bugs than bg3 with this amount of content. And honestly speaking, act 3 is kind of a quest farming annoying aspect, to the most parts, but seeing how much fun i have at act 1 and 2, and that three still has nice stuff in ad well, like the house of hopes, it is 100% forgivable. Would be the most deserved game of the year in a while ngl.
@@blakefenslerjr4858 Then you are very lucky. Most people have at least a few visual glitches and many have a few crashes here and there. BG3 absolutely is a 10/10, but it is not without flaws. Ironing out the kinks and perhaps giving a facelift to act 3 would just make the game great beyond reason, an 11/10 if you will.
Yeah, between this game and Tears of the Kingdom, I don't think Starfield ever had a chance of winning GotY, especially since its still the same old Bethesda formula.

I have almost 300 hours in BG3 and i still want to play more but currently i decided to give myself a little bit of break and try starfield and to be honest i am not very impresed. The game is good, but it feels very outdated. The biggest problem is that the game is not what you might think it is. For example there is no ''space travel'' you can only control and pilot your ship when you are in orbit of some planet and that's it. Outside of that you just fast travel everywhere.
To be honest, after BG3, anything would have been a letdown. I am an OG that played BG1 & BG2 on day 1 release and have waited a long time for the sequel. You are right, Starfield isn't rubbish, there is fun to be had, problem is I am barely enjoying it. Definitely NOT GOTY contender.
Starfield feels outdated because Bethesda refuses to put the time and money into using a newer engine. It's the updated Creation 2 engine that they started using in Fallout 4 and 76. So it's only about a step up from the same engine they used for Skyrim, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. It's also, funnily enough, the same engine they used for Morrowind. The fucking thing is twenty years old, but they'll never change. I thought maybe after the absolute catastrophe of Fallout 76, they might. But as soon as I saw the same exact character animations in the Starfield trailer that I've seen for hundreds of hours in Fallout New Vegas, I knew exactly what we were getting with Starfield.
@@Zanoladab No. At some point you need to switch. There are a lot of modern games using modern engines that are also very moddable. It _is possible_ to use a modern engine and make a game moddable. Using an Engine that's essentially 20 years old but has a 1 meter layer of fresh paint on it... doesn't work infinitely. FO4 already looked dated. Starfield just looks sad once you look at an NPC. I'll still buy it tomorrow and play it, but it's still a 2010 game released 2023.

100hours in BG3, definitely loving it more than Zelda, and from what I've heard, I don't need Fallout in space. Outside of the awesome story and gameplay, the game is oozing with love in how they planned for all the scenarios both in battle encounter, map designs, but also in story dialog and choices. The permutations on all the things you can do is massive.
I bought TOTK not too long and haven’t even got off the island and then bought BG3 for Astarion and now have 92 hours in the game, 86 of those in act 1 so I completely agree

Though having seen all the reviews I'm happy to keep playing BG3 until Starfield goes on sale. I love SciFi way more than fantasy as a genre, but I know that the writing in Starfield will pale in comparison to BG3. I doubt that it'll even be as good as Mass Effect but we'll see once I get my hands on it.

@@johnsonspark171 Act 3 can use some more polish but Act 2 gives you a lot of things you can go about completely differently, some of it coming off of Act 1 like the Grove and Grymforge. Depending on what you did at the grove and Grymforge, act 2 has a decent variety of different things to have fun with, even more if you play Durge.
@@chadachi3970eh, yeah, but act 2 is still the weakest part of the game. The main three locations are fine and going through the shar temple is fun, but you have to wade your way through random shadow encounters while your companions try their best to kill themselves with shadow curse damage. I did not have fun exploring the map, not only because I had to constantly babysit my suicidal companions, but also because all I kept finding were dead ends with the same shadow enemies and nothing else. The town isn’t much better honestly, the fights are fun, I liked the tavern boss because my usual strategy just didn’t work at all, but after I killed him there wasn’t really any payoff story-wise. Even worse with the surgeon, cause at least the fat guy gives you some info if you drink with him, but the surgeon literally just exists. He has no purpose, it’s a fun encounter, i guess, but why is he there? Maybe to show you what shar worship is actually like because shadowheart makes it seem very tame, but it feels like that’d be a revelation you’d have in the actual temple during the trials perhaps? And why does he have the lute? Genuinely can’t figure it out, aside from him being connected to shar and shar being connected to the curse and shadowfell, but that feels so fucking stupid. I might be missing something, but I’ve tried playing through it properly twice and if I’m still missing something then perhaps it’s not just me being an idiot and the game just does a shit job at communicating it’s story in this act.
The hype and praise surrounding BG3 this year is giving me almost the same vibes as Elden Ring last year. Both are COMPLETE games that have zero microtransactions, great gameplay, were made with a lot of hardwork and passion, and brought their respective (and relatively niche) genres to mainstream success. So yes I think it most definitely deserves it. Not to mention it'll bring more attention to the CRPG genre as a whole which will just be good for the gaming industry in general.
The situation is very similar to last year. Does Zelda ToTK deserve the GoTY award? Yes, definitely. But Zelda BoTW already won the award not so long ago and ToTK is like a great DLC for BoTW. It was the case for God of War Ragnarok, that's why Elden Ring won the award last year (deserved it 100%) and why Baldur's Gate 3 will win this year. Btw i think Starfield also is a great game, played 15 hours in 2 days, never played a AAA game that much within 2 days since RDR2. Yes, there are some stupid, lazy Bethesda stuff but it's still a great game.
Elden Ring was a better game period ... it deserved that...95% agree with me... the rest are Sony stans that are upset with a respectable second place...
It's a shame Starfield's story is still crap though. They talk about letting you essentially roleplay, but then they literally make almost everyone you meet essential so you don't mess up the main quest by being evil.
Letting you know that Baulders gate 3 had early access and during that time players report feedback. Starfield only uses their play testers they hire and not actual players. Reason why Baulder gate 3 got smoother launch. There is some bugs but not huge chunk.
Hundeds of hours in BG3. Game deserves to be GOTY. If for nothing else, the character animations and graphics alone. Writing is top notch as well. Fuck me, the game is a masterpiece.

Nope, BG3 is the game in which I had the most fun ever. Started playing in Early Access 3 years ago, so I didn't go with the new hype. BG3 excels on so many levels, nothings perfect, but this game does so many things so well. Will it win GOTY? Frankly, I don't care, however I guess it would be good for Larian Studios who is my favourite developer. KCD was also a superb game.

boundless freedom captured inside an game exquisite as art. Throwing friends or npc's off the edge using them on enemies or killing themselfs, the enviormental influence such an enlarged owlbear oneshotting bosses jumping off an edge with mass scaling, there is no wrong way to play! this is almost perfection with your party comp choices feeling like they matter! Add in the superb written lines that are voiced well, full motioncap on even the most random NPC and suspense or tense situations led by an narrator, the dialogue is amazing. Each location or encounter besides enabling every playstyle is also unique and handcrafted, you wont find the same enemy type or named character more than once makes the world feel alive. Had mates that never played turn based try it, praise it while unable to put the game down, after completing 4 man campaign after solo i have to say this, larian didnt just make an good game they revived CRPG genre and raised the standards in modern rpg.

I'm deep in my first playthrough. Didn't get Lae'zel. Just didn't wonder into her area at the beginning so never found her. I intentionally went and sought her on my second character, and I'm already having a totally different experience from my first character 'cause I'm following a story thread that I didn't have access to.
Did you do the sadistic abuse in the goblin camp where the guy gets off beating you with a mace? You need to pass the performance checks of loving it every time LoL
You can fast travel while inside the goblin temple. Thats how i got out. I spent at least 3, maybe 4 hours in that temple. And none of it was time wasted or felt boring. The entire time I was discovering more things and Fucking up and reloading to do something differently. When I finally did the objectives and found everything (i think) the game felt entirely different when I left because I had learned so much about the different ways I could play. It was eye opening. Now I'm in the underdark. I'm 50 hours in and still in act1. My favorite moment so far has been in the underdark. Before going down all I knew was that there might be Drow down there, so I made Astarion disguise himself as a female Drow, hoping maybe they wouldn't be hostile if I had one with me. And... it worked! I found a group of male drow, and they immediately started talking to him and I didn't know at the time but i guess drow have a matriarchal society, so because i was disguised as a female I could boss them around. I made them give me some crystal and tell me about their quest, then dismissed them and told them to leave. The game gave me drow dialogue options while I was disguised as one. I couldn't believe it. It was so rewarding. This game takes "role-playing game" seriously. I think this is the best RPG I've ever played because of that. 10/10, a masterpiece. I did not expect it to be this good.
Starfield stole it from itself. It didn't have to have bland lazy world building that's a step back from Oblivion, or the lamest and laziest quests I've ever seen.
What's interesting is how Bethesda pushed Starfields release back a full year and was set to drop at the exact same time as BG3... So the BG3 devs, rather than push their release back so to not have to compete like most developers would do, they released it EARLIER. Unless you're an Xbox fanboy, BG3 has completely overshadowed Starfield in every possible way. Their decision to release 1 month earlier could be one of the best marketing and management decisions in the history of video games.
My personal gaming experience is stardew, animal crossing and pokemon. I watch my husband play souls games in the TV. He started playing BG3 and I was extremely interested. We started a campaign together. I'm hooked. I am the most casual of gamers. I maybe play a couple hours a week. We've sunk dozens of hours into the game together. This is why BG3 should win GoTY.
BG3 is literally game of the century. Its what we gamers have always dreamed of but never received. Finally in comes Larian Studios and makes it happen. I could not be happier. Playing on PC 150 hours in and finally got to beginning of Act 3.
BG3 is my game of the year and despite many saying it has bugs here and there some game breaking yet I’ve only encountered a funny rag doll bug. But besides that this games developers really pour their heart and soul into this game and I do think it deserve goty or at least win a bunch of awards.
Being since BG3 is the greatest video game that's ever been released, I think it's fair to believe that Larian will run away with Game of the Year honors.
I mean, yes, but that's like saying a perfectly genetically engineered marathon runner in it's prime stole the first place prize from a 70 year old with broken legs that can just sit and talk all day. Not even in the same ballpark of quality.
Starfield is a good game, but they never was gonna be GOTY contender. It was always gonna be Zelda or BG3 and after BG3 it is an easy GOTY. It is the Elden Ring of this year. Untouchable. It's not perfect neither was Elden ring. Larian has some work to do in Act 3 and hopefully another definitive edition in the future like the DOS games. Even still it is one of the best games i have played in the last 15 years and i think it is the best RPG i have ever played.
BG3 is a AA title that makes AAA devs mald and say “it’s an impossible unrealistic standard on AAA development.” That alone should win BG3 game of the decade. This game was a benchmark in video games not just because it’s amazing, but it proved that AAA game development is a complete f*cking joke and that AAA studios are actually refusing to give us good games and instead choosing monetizing options. BG3 is amazing because it proves that studios like Bethesda, Blizzard, EA, Activision, Capcom, Netherrealm, etc. are just dead in the water and almost not even worth your money at this point.
I think Zelda slightly edges out because its more consistent than BG3 due to Act 3. I think I will be happy if either Baldurs Gate 3 or Zelda TotK wins game of the year. Both are great example of how game should be made no DLC no micro transaction. Just focused on player experience. and not greed.
Hope at the very least Baldur's Gate inspires devs to realize you don't need to cut out RPG elements from RPGs. People actually like them. Loved the Mass Effect series, but as it went on it did a lot of harm to the way devs have seen RPGs for probably the last decade.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a Masterpiece as I refunded the Starfield premium upgrade after about 15 hours and tried again free on game pass and it literally made me depressed as the energy is off and the 30fps makes the game feel atrocious to play, and instead I got Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 and it’s simply incredible as the level of detail, gameplay, graphics, and 60fps performance is superb and larian studios put forth maximum effort, and it’s so good and it’s such a complete game that other devs are scared because they don’t want Gamers to expect that level of Quality as the New Standard going forward and unfortunately for devs like Bethesda and others the New Baldur’s Gate 3 is the New Standard, and all other devs can either raise their standards and create better more complete triple a game’s or they can be left behind because eventually gamers are gonna get sick of half assed game’s like Starfield which is unfinished, incomplete, and unoptimized on Console, and pc and the graphics are really poor as the npc’s look horrible, and lifeless when compared to Baldur’s Gate 3 and it ain’t even close as that Game is GOTY 2023 and it’s the best and most complete and polished game since Elden Ring !!!
This game is just another confirmation that other games that try too hard to be PC or not “scare of people” with potentially “Offensive” content are known to do better period, let’s not forget this game was released as a COMPLETE game, which is absolutely rare.
Starfield is a phenomenal game and Bethesda is my favourite RPG developer, but cmon Baldur's Gate is a once in a generation experience a game this legendary doesn't come along every day.
Lol, Imagine thinking you ripped off Mattis when you aren't paying attention to his friend sitting behind you pickpocketing you during the conversation. I actually humored him and bought his rings. And let me tell you, you're missing out. Dude is the only place you can get the Ring of Resistance to Ants and the Ring of Being Really Invisible, he also sells the Ring of the Lekenesis, which is one of my favorite puns in the game. Although the Ring of Infinite Wishes doesn't work - I still only have one Shadowheart. Buying from him actually does affect his disposition too, and alters your interactions with him later on in the game when you meet again.
BG3 didn't steal shit. Starfield seems like it's on an entire tier below Hogwarts Legacy, though it might have stolen the title from Hogwarts Legacy due to the industry's beef with Rowling.
Uhhhh I was in a situation like this in the goblin camp so heres what I did: You can find these waypoints around the map, so you can teleport away from the goblin camp to heal explore the rest of the map and get better equipment, when I felt like my group was ready, I teleported to the goblin waypoint, killed some of the goblins next to said waypoint, and ran up the ladder the goblins were by when the rest of the goblin camp joins the fight. You can break the ladder behind you and then kill off some of the goblins with arrows with magic attacks and shit you can throw. The good thing about this spot is you can easily run away from the fight and flee, rest to get your spell slots and health restored, and then come back to finish them off.
Starfield doesnt even deserve to be a contender for GOTY in my opinion... I played over 80hrs and really disliked over 70 hrs of it. BG3 however, >80hrs just in Act 1 and LOVED every single second of it!!! Such a drastic difference in quantity and quality here. No competition whatsoever.
baldurs gate 3 is a 9/10 for me but act 2 doesn't feel like a rpg and more like a battle strategy game. All the great things in act1 are just missing in act 2 i don't know.
And things get even worse in act 3. I'm still convinced that most people who overhype this game have still not finished it and don't realize how many problems it has closer to the endgame.
@@youarealwayscorrect it's true you can feel the change in gameplay, ambiance and a less solid structure overall the further you go, but honestly it really doesn't matter that much, it offers different ways to have fun in every chapter for me. I'm at the end and love it like day1 if not even more

But there's a thing i think most people ignore while talking about act 3 of Baldur's gate 3. To make it clear i personally consider BG3 to be the best game i've ever played in my entire life and i never liked turn-based combat before. And the major point is that, act 3 is (or at least was) extremely buggy compared to Act 1 or Act 2, BUT, the thing is tho we're comparing Act 3 of BG3 to different parts of BG3 which are almost completely bug free (i have not encountered a single noticable bug at all in Act 1/2). What if we tried comparing act 3 of Baldur's gate 3 to other games? Imo that's where it gets tricky, because while it feels worse in Act 3 than in earlier acts, i dont have a feeling i can remember anything better in RPG from other studios? Like for real. I don't have any problems enjoying Act 3 for the second time, while i am having problems getting into Starfield (game is boring and carries on all the problems from previous Bethesda games, including those released 20 years ago lmao). So sure, Act 3 does not hold up to internal standards which the majority of BG3 set. But hell, it's still better than general industry standards by a margin. I've completed BG3 2 times now, 200+ hours in total. And i am absolutely fine with overhyping it since Act 3 never managed to really ruin my immersion, never managed to disappoint me, while definetely certain things were a bit annoying.

But i just wanted to present you a perspective of someone who finished the game not once but twice already. This perspective btw is shared by all my friends who've already completed the game. So it makes sense u might be disappointed with act 3, but i'd say realistically most ppl are well aware of problems present in act 3, they just feel like those problems can be forgiven due to how epic/enjoayble the overall adventure is despite all the bugs on the way in Act 3. SO lets just say, if those 3 acts were released as different games (lets say each of 20$ pricetag). I would give Act1 a solid 10, Act2 a solid 10, Act3 a 8.5. (or even 9.5 in current state after patches at least from my experience with 2nd playthrough). But thankfully those acts are not all different games. But ofc i get that it can feel different for u

Couldnt agree more, Baldurs Gate 3 absolutely spoiled us. I could probably spend the next year on it with the various ways there are to play and things to discover.
I mean we knew this 6 months ago. Bethesda needs to mix up their formula, ever larger bland empty worlds are not the answer. Ambition in RPGs needs to include interactivity and story flexibility, memorable characters, and engaging systems.
Story flexibility is so important when it comes to RPGs, they have done an exceptional job in that regard with BG3
Starfield is NOT empty 🤣 so many epic quests so much adventure its A game I was waiting for I'm over 32 hours in and not even at the half of the main quest yet its very good and quite addictive. You should give it A try Bethesda RPG's have been critically reviewed to be some of the best all time and Starfield was made by the same team that made Skyrim which won 250 Game Of The Year awards including game of the year

In BG3 you see through the layers of complexity and how the developers have actively tried to plan for everything a player might do and adjust the game accordingly but in starfield you don't really feel as though you have many choices unless the game presents it to you, for example say you come across a character in BG3 who rubs you the wrong way and you decide to kill them, the game fully lets you do this and may even have built around the character's death a series of reactions from your party and the world so that you would feel the consequences of killing that character even if they were tied to important questlines, but in starfield if you kill a character like that or try to the game will not allow you to kill them if they are tied to quests no matter how many bullets or bombs you hit them with and this freedom limiting philosophy is part of what holds Bethesda's games back from a narrative perspective.
You're 100% right. It reminds me of the stellar difference between Obsidian's Fallout New Vegas, and Bethesda's Fallout games.
Given the state of many game studios and publishers and what they are releasing as a finished product, Balders Gate may even deserve game of the decade.
As the state of rn i think a lil too many bugs and a kind of weak act three. Act 1 and 2 i definitely agree. I mean ppl try to be edgy and act like its a bad game while played 150+hrs. And i dont really get it. A game is allowed to have a certain amount of mistakes, slip ups and bugs, compared to its bigness. A shallow EA or Unisoft game with no depths at all has more bugs than bg3 with this amount of content. And honestly speaking, act 3 is kind of a quest farming annoying aspect, to the most parts, but seeing how much fun i have at act 1 and 2, and that three still has nice stuff in ad well, like the house of hopes, it is 100% forgivable.
Would be the most deserved game of the year in a while ngl.

@@blakefenslerjr4858 Then you are very lucky. Most people have at least a few visual glitches and many have a few crashes here and there. BG3 absolutely is a 10/10, but it is not without flaws. Ironing out the kinks and perhaps giving a facelift to act 3 would just make the game great beyond reason, an 11/10 if you will.

I have almost 300 hours in BG3 and i still want to play more but currently i decided to give myself a little bit of break and try starfield and to be honest i am not very impresed. The game is good, but it feels very outdated. The biggest problem is that the game is not what you might think it is. For example there is no ''space travel'' you can only control and pilot your ship when you are in orbit of some planet and that's it. Outside of that you just fast travel everywhere.
To be honest, after BG3, anything would have been a letdown. I am an OG that played BG1 & BG2 on day 1 release and have waited a long time for the sequel.
You are right, Starfield isn't rubbish, there is fun to be had, problem is I am barely enjoying it.

Starfield feels outdated because Bethesda refuses to put the time and money into using a newer engine. It's the updated Creation 2 engine that they started using in Fallout 4 and 76. So it's only about a step up from the same engine they used for Skyrim, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. It's also, funnily enough, the same engine they used for Morrowind. The fucking thing is twenty years old, but they'll never change. I thought maybe after the absolute catastrophe of Fallout 76, they might. But as soon as I saw the same exact character animations in the Starfield trailer that I've seen for hundreds of hours in Fallout New Vegas, I knew exactly what we were getting with Starfield.

There are a lot of modern games using modern engines that are also very moddable. It _is possible_ to use a modern engine and make a game moddable.

100hours in BG3, definitely loving it more than Zelda, and from what I've heard, I don't need Fallout in space. Outside of the awesome story and gameplay, the game is oozing with love in how they planned for all the scenarios both in battle encounter, map designs, but also in story dialog and choices. The permutations on all the things you can do is massive.
I bought TOTK not too long and haven’t even got off the island and then bought BG3 for Astarion and now have 92 hours in the game, 86 of those in act 1 so I completely agree

Though having seen all the reviews I'm happy to keep playing BG3 until Starfield goes on sale. I love SciFi way more than fantasy as a genre, but I know that the writing in Starfield will pale in comparison to BG3. I doubt that it'll even be as good as Mass Effect but we'll see once I get my hands on it.

@@johnsonspark171 Act 3 can use some more polish but Act 2 gives you a lot of things you can go about completely differently, some of it coming off of Act 1 like the Grove and Grymforge. Depending on what you did at the grove and Grymforge, act 2 has a decent variety of different things to have fun with, even more if you play Durge.
@@chadachi3970eh, yeah, but act 2 is still the weakest part of the game. The main three locations are fine and going through the shar temple is fun, but you have to wade your way through random shadow encounters while your companions try their best to kill themselves with shadow curse damage. I did not have fun exploring the map, not only because I had to constantly babysit my suicidal companions, but also because all I kept finding were dead ends with the same shadow enemies and nothing else. The town isn’t much better honestly, the fights are fun, I liked the tavern boss because my usual strategy just didn’t work at all, but after I killed him there wasn’t really any payoff story-wise. Even worse with the surgeon, cause at least the fat guy gives you some info if you drink with him, but the surgeon literally just exists. He has no purpose, it’s a fun encounter, i guess, but why is he there? Maybe to show you what shar worship is actually like because shadowheart makes it seem very tame, but it feels like that’d be a revelation you’d have in the actual temple during the trials perhaps? And why does he have the lute? Genuinely can’t figure it out, aside from him being connected to shar and shar being connected to the curse and shadowfell, but that feels so fucking stupid. I might be missing something, but I’ve tried playing through it properly twice and if I’m still missing something then perhaps it’s not just me being an idiot and the game just does a shit job at communicating it’s story in this act.
The hype and praise surrounding BG3 this year is giving me almost the same vibes as Elden Ring last year. Both are COMPLETE games that have zero microtransactions, great gameplay, were made with a lot of hardwork and passion, and brought their respective (and relatively niche) genres to mainstream success. So yes I think it most definitely deserves it. Not to mention it'll bring more attention to the CRPG genre as a whole which will just be good for the gaming industry in general.
The situation is very similar to last year. Does Zelda ToTK deserve the GoTY award? Yes, definitely. But Zelda BoTW already won the award not so long ago and ToTK is like a great DLC for BoTW. It was the case for God of War Ragnarok, that's why Elden Ring won the award last year (deserved it 100%) and why Baldur's Gate 3 will win this year. Btw i think Starfield also is a great game, played 15 hours in 2 days, never played a AAA game that much within 2 days since RDR2. Yes, there are some stupid, lazy Bethesda stuff but it's still a great game.

It's a shame Starfield's story is still crap though. They talk about letting you essentially roleplay, but then they literally make almost everyone you meet essential so you don't mess up the main quest by being evil.

Reason why Baulder gate 3 got smoother launch. There is some bugs but not huge chunk.

Nope, BG3 is the game in which I had the most fun ever. Started playing in Early Access 3 years ago, so I didn't go with the new hype. BG3 excels on so many levels, nothings perfect, but this game does so many things so well. Will it win GOTY? Frankly, I don't care, however I guess it would be good for Larian Studios who is my favourite developer.

The game is fantastic. Never played anything from this genre. Probably close to 80 hours in and I’m still in the first ACT.

Throwing friends or npc's off the edge using them on enemies or killing themselfs, the enviormental influence such an enlarged owlbear oneshotting bosses jumping off an edge with mass scaling, there is no wrong way to play! this is almost perfection with your party comp choices feeling like they matter! Add in the superb written lines that are voiced well, full motioncap on even the most random NPC and suspense or tense situations led by an narrator, the dialogue is amazing. Each location or encounter besides enabling every playstyle is also unique and handcrafted, you wont find the same enemy type or named character more than once makes the world feel alive. Had mates that never played turn based try it, praise it while unable to put the game down, after completing 4 man campaign after solo i have to say this, larian didnt just make an good game they revived CRPG genre and raised the standards in modern rpg.

I'm deep in my first playthrough. Didn't get Lae'zel. Just didn't wonder into her area at the beginning so never found her. I intentionally went and sought her on my second character, and I'm already having a totally different experience from my first character 'cause I'm following a story thread that I didn't have access to.

You can fast travel while inside the goblin temple. Thats how i got out. I spent at least 3, maybe 4 hours in that temple. And none of it was time wasted or felt boring. The entire time I was discovering more things and Fucking up and reloading to do something differently. When I finally did the objectives and found everything (i think) the game felt entirely different when I left because I had learned so much about the different ways I could play. It was eye opening. Now I'm in the underdark.
I'm 50 hours in and still in act1. My favorite moment so far has been in the underdark. Before going down all I knew was that there might be Drow down there, so I made Astarion disguise himself as a female Drow, hoping maybe they wouldn't be hostile if I had one with me. And... it worked! I found a group of male drow, and they immediately started talking to him and I didn't know at the time but i guess drow have a matriarchal society, so because i was disguised as a female I could boss them around. I made them give me some crystal and tell me about their quest, then dismissed them and told them to leave. The game gave me drow dialogue options while I was disguised as one. I couldn't believe it. It was so rewarding. This game takes "role-playing game" seriously. I think this is the best RPG I've ever played because of that. 10/10, a masterpiece. I did not expect it to be this good.

What's interesting is how Bethesda pushed Starfields release back a full year and was set to drop at the exact same time as BG3... So the BG3 devs, rather than push their release back so to not have to compete like most developers would do, they released it EARLIER. Unless you're an Xbox fanboy, BG3 has completely overshadowed Starfield in every possible way. Their decision to release 1 month earlier could be one of the best marketing and management decisions in the history of video games.

My personal gaming experience is stardew, animal crossing and pokemon. I watch my husband play souls games in the TV.
He started playing BG3 and I was extremely interested. We started a campaign together. I'm hooked. I am the most casual of gamers. I maybe play a couple hours a week. We've sunk dozens of hours into the game together.

BG3 is literally game of the century. Its what we gamers have always dreamed of but never received. Finally in comes Larian Studios and makes it happen. I could not be happier. Playing on PC 150 hours in and finally got to beginning of Act 3.
BG3 is my game of the year and despite many saying it has bugs here and there some game breaking yet I’ve only encountered a funny rag doll bug.
But besides that this games developers really pour their heart and soul into this game and I do think it deserve goty or at least win a bunch of awards.

Starfield is a good game, but they never was gonna be GOTY contender. It was always gonna be Zelda or BG3 and after BG3 it is an easy GOTY. It is the Elden Ring of this year. Untouchable. It's not perfect neither was Elden ring. Larian has some work to do in Act 3 and hopefully another definitive edition in the future like the DOS games. Even still it is one of the best games i have played in the last 15 years and i think it is the best RPG i have ever played.

BG3 is a AA title that makes AAA devs mald and say “it’s an impossible unrealistic standard on AAA development.” That alone should win BG3 game of the decade. This game was a benchmark in video games not just because it’s amazing, but it proved that AAA game development is a complete f*cking joke and that AAA studios are actually refusing to give us good games and instead choosing monetizing options. BG3 is amazing because it proves that studios like Bethesda, Blizzard, EA, Activision, Capcom, Netherrealm, etc. are just dead in the water and almost not even worth your money at this point.
I think Zelda slightly edges out because its more consistent than BG3 due to Act 3. I think I will be happy if either Baldurs Gate 3 or Zelda TotK wins game of the year. Both are great example of how game should be made no DLC no micro transaction. Just focused on player experience. and not greed.
Hope at the very least Baldur's Gate inspires devs to realize you don't need to cut out RPG elements from RPGs. People actually like them.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a Masterpiece as I refunded the Starfield premium upgrade after about 15 hours and tried again free on game pass and it literally made me depressed as the energy is off and the 30fps makes the game feel atrocious to play, and instead I got Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 and it’s simply incredible as the level of detail, gameplay, graphics, and 60fps performance is superb and larian studios put forth maximum effort, and it’s so good and it’s such a complete game that other devs are scared because they don’t want Gamers to expect that level of Quality as the New Standard going forward and unfortunately for devs like Bethesda and others the New Baldur’s Gate 3 is the New Standard, and all other devs can either raise their standards and create better more complete triple a game’s or they can be left behind because eventually gamers are gonna get sick of half assed game’s like Starfield which is unfinished, incomplete, and unoptimized on Console, and pc and the graphics are really poor as the npc’s look horrible, and lifeless when compared to Baldur’s Gate 3 and it ain’t even close as that Game is GOTY 2023 and it’s the best and most complete and polished game since Elden Ring !!!

Starfield is a phenomenal game and Bethesda is my favourite RPG developer, but cmon Baldur's Gate is a once in a generation experience a game this legendary doesn't come along every day.
Both are mediocre games with massive marketing.

Dude is the only place you can get the Ring of Resistance to Ants and the Ring of Being Really Invisible, he also sells the Ring of the Lekenesis, which is one of my favorite puns in the game. Although the Ring of Infinite Wishes doesn't work - I still only have one Shadowheart.
Buying from him actually does affect his disposition too, and alters your interactions with him later on in the game when you meet again.

Uhhhh I was in a situation like this in the goblin camp so heres what I did:
You can find these waypoints around the map, so you can teleport away from the goblin camp to heal explore the rest of the map and get better equipment, when I felt like my group was ready, I teleported to the goblin waypoint, killed some of the goblins next to said waypoint, and ran up the ladder the goblins were by when the rest of the goblin camp joins the fight. You can break the ladder behind you and then kill off some of the goblins with arrows with magic attacks and shit you can throw. The good thing about this spot is you can easily run away from the fight and flee, rest to get your spell slots and health restored, and then come back to finish them off.
Strashfield wouldn't be able to win GOTY even if it was the only game released this year
Starfield doesnt even deserve to be a contender for GOTY in my opinion... I played over 80hrs and really disliked over 70 hrs of it. BG3 however, >80hrs just in Act 1 and LOVED every single second of it!!! Such a drastic difference in quantity and quality here. No competition whatsoever.
baldurs gate 3 is a 9/10 for me but act 2 doesn't feel like a rpg and more like a battle strategy game. All the great things in act1 are just missing in act 2 i don't know.
And things get even worse in act 3. I'm still convinced that most people who overhype this game have still not finished it and don't realize how many problems it has closer to the endgame.
@@youarealwayscorrect it's true you can feel the change in gameplay, ambiance and a less solid structure overall the further you go, but honestly it really doesn't matter that much, it offers different ways to have fun in every chapter for me. I'm at the end and love it like day1 if not even more
@@Rico-nj3vl yeah, the game is still mostly good and fun to play even at the final act, despite the entire experience becoming less polished and more buggy. But it's still a pretty noticeable issue, which undermined the overall experience for me.
@@youarealwayscorrect Well they already fixed most problems in act 3 (at least i had almost no issues after completing 2nd playthrough like a day ago). But there's a thing i think most people ignore while talking about act 3 of Baldur's gate 3. To make it clear i personally consider BG3 to be the best game i've ever played in my entire life and i never liked turn-based combat before. And the major point is that, act 3 is (or at least was) extremely buggy compared to Act 1 or Act 2, BUT, the thing is tho we're comparing Act 3 of BG3 to different parts of BG3 which are almost completely bug free (i have not encountered a single noticable bug at all in Act 1/2). What if we tried comparing act 3 of Baldur's gate 3 to other games? Imo that's where it gets tricky, because while it feels worse in Act 3 than in earlier acts, i dont have a feeling i can remember anything better in RPG from other studios? Like for real. I don't have any problems enjoying Act 3 for the second time, while i am having problems getting into Starfield (game is boring and carries on all the problems from previous Bethesda games, including those released 20 years ago lmao).
So sure, Act 3 does not hold up to internal standards which the majority of BG3 set. But hell, it's still better than general industry standards by a margin.
I've completed BG3 2 times now, 200+ hours in total. And i am absolutely fine with overhyping it since Act 3 never managed to really ruin my immersion, never managed to disappoint me, while definetely certain things were a bit annoying.
@@youarealwayscorrect To make it clear, i am not here to argue or smth. I agree that Act 3 is not as good as earlier acts (mostly due to bugs, performance issues). But i just wanted to present you a perspective of someone who finished the game not once but twice already. This perspective btw is shared by all my friends who've already completed the game.
So it makes sense u might be disappointed with act 3, but i'd say realistically most ppl are well aware of problems present in act 3, they just feel like those problems can be forgiven due to how epic/enjoayble the overall adventure is despite all the bugs on the way in Act 3.
SO lets just say, if those 3 acts were released as different games (lets say each of 20$ pricetag). I would give Act1 a solid 10, Act2 a solid 10, Act3 a 8.5. (or even 9.5 in current state after patches at least from my experience with 2nd playthrough).
But thankfully those acts are not all different games.

At first I thought Srarfield would beat it but I have learned the stuff in space is just illusions, if you fly there without loading screen its flat 2d and on the planets there is invisible walls, unfortunately the game isnt goty
