It's so crazy to see this exact 4Runner on UA-cam. I went back and forth with the previous owner in Oregon for about 4 months trying to buy it. We worked out a price that we both agreed on, then he flaked on me the day before the sale. I eventually found another V8 4th gen and gave the same guy one last look. He said no thanks, only to get in touch with me 2 days after I bought a different V8 4th gen to say that he changed his mind and would sell it. Too much emotional whiplash for me. Anyway, glad to see this beast go to someone that is going to love it. Will definitely watch your next video to see more of this truck.
Awesome video! I had an 03 tacoma, got an 13' forester I've had it for 2 yrs and wanting to go back to Toyota. Def sold me on getting a 4th gen 4runner now
I can live with smaller amount of power but I utilize the bed of my Tacoma every single day. There is no way I could only have a closed SUV. You just cannot beat the practicality of a pick up truck.
I had a 09 Tacoma. Loved everything about it. Till someone rear-ended me. Then I got myself a 06 4Runner limited, knda like yours. It had the v6, and it was 2wd. Driving it around for a couple of years changed my mind on the Tacoma. Essentially what you mentioned in this video is the exact same reason that influenced my decision to go with a 4runner. However, as i mentioned. My limited did not have 4wd. So i recently went out and got myself a '23 4runner offroad, and i love it.
Build quality stems from 4Runner built in Japan and Tacoma built in US. I recently went from V6 4th gen SE to V8 4th gen SE, V6 felt faster off the line but V8 pulls harder after second shift, I stuffed same 285s on TE rims on it and mpg on V8 is 1mpg difference after 1.5 month ownership at a avg 11.5 mpg driving same route in city.
Well, there are definitely some advantages with an SUV that you don't get with a pick-up, but, there are also some advantages with a pick-up that you don't get in an SUV either......so I say own them both. On March 23rd I purchased a brand new 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD-Off-Road and I love it. I didn't experience the gear hunting that so many describe and so that's not really a problem but, I did experience the throttle lag and lack of bottom end torque at take off. I corrected that with the trusty AFE cold air intake and now it sounds great and is making power as early as 1100 rpm's. I bought this truck for a specific purpose which is for overlanding on the weekends. I am a business owner and it's not very easy for me to walk away from my business for long periods of time and so I figured I'd maximize my 3 day weekends by overlanding. I put a lift on it, 2.5 in the front and a 2 inch OME lift on the rear including their heavy load leaf springs to support the bed rack and Tuff Stuff Alpha tent. I put a roof rack and aftermarket tires and wheels. Wheels are by Fuel and for tires I went up in size slightly by going 265/75/R16 Toyo MT's. Next week I install my Demello Off-Road bumper with WARN Zeon winch and some lighting. Next month I'll put on an AWE exhaust and do the OTT tune. Overall though, I really love this Tacoma. However, I also own an 07 FJ Cruiser that I bought slightly used in 08 with 30k miles on it and I love that as well. It has a 3 inch suspension lift, Demello Off-Road front bumper with WARN winch, dual air compressor with air tank mounted underneath the rear of the truck and 30 feet or air hose in the cargo area, rock sliders and a few other things. When I went in to purchase the Tacoma they asked me if I was going to use the FJ as a trade in and I said hell no, lol! But yeah, There are definitely still things that I like better about my FJ and since I still only have 120k on it I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon. Because SUV's are a little bit heavier I feel that they tend to have a slight edge over pick-ups in the off-road department and part of that is that they usually have a more powerful engine. The big 4.0 on my FJ is a beast in the field! For things like having dogs yeah, the cargo area in the rear of an SUV makes transporting dogs easier and they seem to like it better too. With pick-ups though, sure is nice to have a usable bed for small chores. Either way, nice rig, hope you enjoy it.
I just bought a 2003 V8 4wd 4Runner like yours with 201K miles on it. I kept it pretty much stock as I have to fit it into the garage. I did put on a brand X roof rack which just cleared the garage door and new AT tires. Just built the platform for sleeping and will be ordering mattresses built for this vehicle. This is the first vehicle I ever had (I'm an old fart) that has leather and I must admit, it does feel great! I also plan on upgrading the tow hitch so I can pull my travel trailer. The one on the 4Runner looks kind of weak as it is just bolted on to the cross member for the rear bumper. I had a 2003 Tacoma 4door Prerunner that I bought brand new and gave that to my son so he can haul stuff for his house.
Dude sweet video! I went from a 2nd gen Tacoma to just picking up an 03 v8 4r. Can’t wait for more videos definitely an inspiration for some videos I want to make myself! 👍🏼

@@kevinshinohara overall refinement the GX wins by far, side barn doors is a love/hate thing I love it and at times it can be annoying af. My 4th Gen 2wd does feel lighter at its feet the 1GR feel rock solid in that truck while the GX has a minor lag throttle response but not to the point its annoying like with 5th Gen and 3rd Gen Tacoma laggy throttle response types.
Nice setup! I got 270k on my 07 4R sport. V8 4WD. Most recent problems I’ve had was the secondary air injection pump failure, minor leak from radiator, and torn CV boots. Saved a bunch of money doing the Air Injection pump and it’s valves myself along with the radiator. Other than that, it’s been rock solid. Too bad. You didn't get the 05 with the V8.!!!
I have the 2004 V8 what's the difference in the 2005
just say you wanted to get some money back . the tacoma is better than the 4 runner
To each their own. I prefer my v8 4th gen over the 3rd gen Tacoma, money aside.
Damn … you just made me unsub fam ;( taco > 4Runners
Ahhh sorry to hear that man. No hate on the tacos, I'm sure ill have one again soon but the runner suited my needs better at this time.
Hopefully I can win back a sub in the future
