What’s poppin, Mutos? It’s me MT and Welcome back to the HS show! This is a breakdown of Episode 3 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters…that features another sighting of the king of monsters himself and ending with the reveal of the…chillest monster of them all. So strap in to your seats, Gang because we’re about to get into it!
And the episode starts with the camera eye of monarch watching over a recently Rogue leland Shaw. who, at the end of the last episode, cut off the tracking bracelet that monarch had placed on him well they had him in solitary confinement. A solitary confinement that Tim’s boss Natalia Verdugo later refers to as a “generous retirement”... So I'm super curious as to what exactly landed this former military man in monarchs secret slammer for sneaky seniors.

*Who wants to bet that Cate & Kentaro's grandmother (and Shaw's unrequited love interest) is still alive and looking great for her age?* I mean to me it was obvious that she's probably still alive based on the way she was dragged underground (and not killed on screen) that she could come back, but it wasn't clear how she could come back until we saw that Shaw hasn't aged normally. So she's probably been wandering around in hallow earth for many decades Tarzan style. Shaw and Hiroshi probably suspected she could still be alive and were probably searching on their own how to get to Hollow Earth in order to find her.

The writing for this episode was frustrating. May is just a tedious character; she dipped her foot in water for 60 seconds and the rest of the episode she moans that she's gonna die of hypothermia? And they're all dressed like they had no idea they were flying to Alaska? Almost the entire episode is character development, which I know a lot of people like, but I was afraid of starting this show because I thought it would be just like this: no monsters, just talking about monsters. SHOW THE MONSTERS.

Thanks for the easter eggs MT. This episode took me out it. Tim Monarch's magically instantly transported to Alaska. His trip would have taken several hours to reach them. May would have died in minutes after water exposure in Alaska.

I felt the same as well. The helicopter seemed to appear in the sky almost straight away. And did we really need all the flashbacks to the lads past life???
This episode was mediocre as hell
Is possible that the timeframe for both party might be different. Could be that Monarch team landed in Alaska earlier since Monarch outpost did indicate something was up but didn't expected the "scooby gang" to be over there until Kentaro call for help.
Still, I do agree that the show did poorly explaining the time of event. They could have added a line like date and time. Remember, taking a ship from Japan to Korea, then fly to Alaska by a propeller plane ain't fast enough compare Monarch logistic.
Won't be surprise that the Monarch flying command center is being used.
For being cold. Yeah, she should be dead after climbing up the mountain but hey, monster are real.

The most disappointing episode in the season so far, I didn’t care for the flash backs, spent too little time on the actual story that we wanted.
@6:50, I like that... but what if she had an order from her employer (Monarch) and he was her mark from the start? she was watching him, and right when he took that picture was an opportunity to meet him and play her part.

the vid i watched said they're classified as superspecies, big superspecies are titans, Godzilla and other powerful titans are called Alpha Titans. overall they're called MUTO if haven't received a name. pretty much besides flashbacks of Godzilla we haven't seen an Alpha Titan if that's what you're looking for.. probably they want to surprise us, but taking too long

@@blazenfateboring and slow paced are not small. Something can be slow and interesting, this is just slow for no go reasons. It's trying to focus too much on the characters in a story people watch for the monsters. Kentaro half sister and his ex can be killed and it wouldn't impact shit, but the writers want you to think they are significant.
I belive you will find that Jess Salgueiro is best known for playing Mary-Anne in Letterkenny

5:02, Addressing assumptions about identity also appears to be another theme of this show, as Cate’s hostility towards Kentaro and his mother is out of her myopic and egotistical inability to acknowledge them as anything more than symbols of her father’s betrayal of her personally as well as May’s judgments on Kentaro’s actions being contrasted by her own secrecy and suspicious behavior that mirrors Hiroshi’s own in how she lies to her sister and copies Hiroshi’s files without Kentaro’s knowledge or consent.
Cate, however, eventually lessens her bitterness and myopia to the point of acknowledging Kentaro as her family, no longer using her father’s actions to justify rejecting and demeaning him. This brings up an interesting aspect about identity, how much others play a role in how something or someone is defined or labeled and how their assumptions and judgments create barriers (or in Kentaro’s case, psionically, chemically or radiologically-induced hallucinations) that end up trapping and isolating people from each other.
Kentaro is similarly confined by the role placed on him by his absent father (who may have influenced his art career to keep him away from titan hunting) and appears insecure about his identity due to how much his father (who had hidden much of his own identity away from his two families) has influenced him. He may not know who he is without his father’s presence to guide him, hence his determination to find him.
Moreover, the immediate distrust between Monarch and the group based on the group assuming Monarch is a malicious organization also furthers the idea of misidentification the hostility it brings, as well as Monarch’s attempts to understand titans being opposed by the military’s hostility towards them, which continues into the narrative of King Of The Monsters where the world definitely learns Godzilla’s necessary place as the Alpha Titan to prevent the titan population from running rampant.

I don't know about anyone else ,but I find 'May' to be the most annoying character in all of Monsterverse, closely followed by Emma Russell in second place.
Cate and may are annoying so far. May takes the crown. Cate may redeem herself.
Oh she is definitely annoying and selfish. I think there is more to her than she is letting on, like how she has so many passports and readily showed off a possible US one when they were in trouble.

I was hoping this would be the last episode for May. She is the worst character on the show. Definitely not the best episode overall.
This episode was ehh for me compared to the first 2.
They kinda dropped the ball with those data cartridges - in 1976 they would've held maybe 5MB per tape cartridge, even less in 1973 when Bill threw the satchel into the sea. If we think super science, in 1984 it was like 90MB, so...let's say they were 100MB each to be generous: there was, like, 6 to 8 of them? They were image files of pages - the least dense manner of data storage I can think of, and all the page/images were heavily redacted. Why redacted when they were under military encryption, I dunno. But less than 1GB of images is not a lot of data - realistically, less than 50MB, especially since unlike the giant flying wing headquarters shown in G:KOTM, K:SI doesn't show any tech advanced beyond the era to my recollection. Please check my math.
Worst EP so far .. it was terrible .. May and Cate are terrible as characters.. soo annoying ... and May , Cate and Kentaro are so bad at acting , its hard to watch ... characters in the past scenes are much better!

Being Asian, I found how fast Kentaro hooked up with May, just a very American thing, rather than Japanese.
I mean it’s the new world so it’s believable, back then a more traditional Japanese man would not want to hook up with someone of that color
