Hey, I came back to find your video on UA-cam to respond to it. Thank you for this particular video because it is the best one out there and I am sure everyone in one of these Honda's at 200,000+ miles has this issue. One of the most important aspects to it in my opinion was seeing where you ran into slight issues and how you resolved them. I knew they were coming from your video, so I was prepared on how to address it quicker. You encouraged me to be able to tackle this job myself, and I appreciate you taking the time in the past to post this. I was only planning on replacing my EGR valve yesterday (missing at a stoplight, stalled a few times, high engine temp evident on the spark plug, overheating oddly, NO dash error light, getting worse, worse when driving longer in town, seemed like decent gas mileage, but was beginning to run like ____ symptoms that made it obvious something bad was beginning to happen). However, once I started digging into it I saw that my EGR valve looked like your EGR valve. At that point I knew that my ports were going to look like your ports, so I kept on going to find out. Mine were just as blocked as yours, if not more so. Every port was 100% blocked on mine, as were the channels connecting them like was shown in the video. I am at 278,000 on a 1995 LX 2.2L (Not the VTEC), but it comes apart just like yours. The cleaning of everything took far longer than taking it apart and putting it back together. My car idles now though like I don't ever remember it idling. Very smooth... So. Thank you again. Have an excellent day :)

Adding a note for future viewers:
1993 accord 400k miles F22A1, I just did a whole gasket replacement on my engine, head gasket, intake/exhaust, on and on...I wasn't even thinking about my EGR valve until I separated the Intake manifold from the head, I noticed the port on the head that flows through the manifold into the EGR valve was completely blocked with carbon. So be sure to check that port as well.

Bro, I knew this was the problem on my 1995 accord, my symptoms were- car ran fine as long as you were accelerating or decelerating, but that one spot where you hold the gas pedal to go a consistent speed it would sputter and miss bad. Idled fine. 3 of the 4 ports were completely clogged shut. Thank you so much for this video, my Honda mechanic wanted over $300 to do the job!

How does this carbon build up cause misfiring and spuddering? I thought it was just blocking small egr passages, causing egr gasses not to enter the intake to be burned up.

    • @chriss4365
      @chriss4365  Місяць тому +1

@squirrelmaster760710 the egr gases are used to lower combustion temperature. Too high temperature causes self ignition and at wrong time causes knocking and or engine damage. Only alternative is to use higher octane fuel.

Hi I'm really frustrated! I have a 1997 Honda Accord Ex 2.7L that I had a rebuilt engine & transmission put in my car & the guy had my car 4 almost an entire year! I got my car back & I couldn't get it inspected right away because the driver's side turn signal was missing. I installed that! On top of the guy damaging some seal on the transmission( because it's LEAKING) he also didn't secure a clamp on the engine &!there was a serious gas leak! The gas leak is fixed! The transmission leak is not as of yet!!!! On top of that He WAY OVERFILLED the oil!!! Now the check engine light is on! And it's the EGR lift valve code! Also it's throwing a misfire code! And I'm trying to figure out how with less than 400 miles on brand new spark plugs, wires, EVERYTHING NEW ON THIS ENGINE AM I GETTING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!! Does the EGR valve come on the rebuilt engine or does that have 2 be put on from the old engine? CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME? So I don't have 2 strangle this male!!!!!

    • @chriss4365

Sorry to hear that, when you get a rebuild they can be cheap and put old parts back on. If you didn't specify and pay for new parts they will throw back on the old ones. Why did it take a year to fix a car? Do you have any paperwork form the mechanic about what he was going to do? It sounds like you may need to take the mechanic to court to get money for damages so you can get it fixed right. Im sure he put the old egr back on. Don't strangle him take him to court.

    Talk about faffing about.........!
Take the bloody stuff off preventing you getting it out first......before you unscrew it and then try to move it........
Nearly seven minutes before we see any effective progress.
Should have had everything disconnected and at the workbench in about four minutes......
But credit to you for tackling the job and showing your methods.....Thank you.
    P.S.
Gloves are helpful in stopping any cuts to fingers and hands when loosening stuff that is tight, or getting a rubber hose off. It is something that we all experience when we work on our vehicles. I use disposable gloves for most things.....but these easily tear and then you cut yourself.
Stronger work gloves......(time and experience will tell you which is best).......won't stop you knocking your fingers or hands when something slips.....BUT........they will prevent you cutting yourself......and yes, I know, it is usually a clip that catches you out...
Oh......and plug the holes with something, (even a rag will do), before using the wire brush..
A fiddly job at the best of times but well done...
