- Julius Malema is facing scrutiny over his lavish lifestyle after photos emerged of his expensive shoes worn a Durban July black tie event. Are these criticisms justified and are criticisms of the EFF in general justified when they wear overalls and maid outfits in parliament? Should public representatives be modest with fashion and cars?
Principles of communism do not allow bourgeois behavior.
They are just a gimmick to hold sway over the proletariat.
@abdallasa7077 this is a lie. There were communist leaders in China who had nice clothes and homes. Besides when did Malema say he was a communist? Malema supports the Muslim community does he believe in Allah? His ideologies can be influenced by communist principles without he himself being a communist

I love Malema and his political ideologies. Everyone, irrespective of class, should take up the socialistic role of eradicating poverty. I am however concerned about Malema's inability to cling to his words. This is the same Malema who once said that revolutionaries shouldn't be seen wearing luxurious clothing. This is the same Malema who criticized parliamentarians for wearing designer clothing to SONA and accused them of being wasteful. There are countless examples in other contexts where Malema struggles to preach the very same thing that he preaches. This needs to stop. It takes so much away from his integrity as a leader.
Hence he loses votes always flip flopping

Mr Flip Flop... Says one thing one day and another thing the next. Tell the people what they want to hear. I usualy tell people who say " Wat sê jy?" I'll say anything depending on the price.
Excuse me? I think people are being so unfair to Julius. 😮

It looks like that the majority of voters don't seem to mind their politicians being corrupt or flashing their expensive clothes and shoes fair enough it is his money but you should try and ask where did it come from. The ANC has generated enough tax to be decent houses not RDP houses and yet the majority still vote for him again ask where has those taxes disappeared to. I cannot understand why anyone who is a corrupt leader and stops their people the right to decent housing and a decent lifestyle. Sorry I just cannot believe what people do to each other. Exactly
I hope you and I are wearing South African brands - not some made in China sneakers because they are affordable 😅
Yes that's a good suggestion. But the "South African Brands" must also start manufacturing locally. If that becomes the standard
And when he says we must industrialise nationalise so we can produce those types of shoes you say no… what do people want? Right now there are things we buying at overseas because there is no production in South Africa l
My understanding is that the suit was designed locally. It is harder with shoes especially formal shoes. Is there a brand that is at that level?
Now you see why they threw out the Thomas Sankara principles. It serious bad taste a total phoney.
@fredbantu3694 you MK supporters must focus on your corrupt Zuma who is go to jail soon. You talk about Malema but your uncle Zuma was convicted on corruption charges. He was found guilty. "Never be seen in public showing opulence" that's what he always said and preached. This guy is a hoax. Iam down with him and his EFF. He is just another hungry African pretending to be a Pan-Africanist
Che Guevara, a true revolutionary, would never even think of wearing designer clothing. I don't have an issue with politicians wearing designer clothes, but don't call yourself a revolutionary. Don't invoke that imagery. The reason you call yourself a 'revolutionary,' is because you're trying to make yourself look a certain way to onlookers, and thus, you benefit from the invocation of that imagery. We as onlookers reserve the right to call you out when we're of the opinion that you don't embody the tenets of what constitutes a true revolutionary.
😂😂😂 My brother you are lying, Che was wearing an Oyster Rolex watch Hugo Chaves was a Revolutionary was wearing band clothes, Gucci LV, ect, Puttin, wears a 250 tjousand watch, Paul Stuart shouse , Marting Greenfeilds suuts, So dont be pitty be realistic, Malemas wife is a Chuttered Accountant she can afford
@mojokanjani6123 Thanks for pointing that out brother, you are correct.
1. Revolutionaries are human, after all, with interests and things they value. My understanding is that he owned these as prized possessions and not necessarily for opulence.
2. Rolex watches have never been considered inexpensive; however, they previously occupied a much more accessible price range. As a point of reference, a stainless steel Submariner Date retailed for $180 in 1957. Adjusting for inflation, that would still only be equal to roughly $1,600 today. To add some additional perspective, a brand-new, stainless steel Submariner Date now costs $8,550.
3. Ultimately, Che was known amongst the people as a man with a disdain for wealth, excess, and inequality and he tried his best to live up to that.
For me, this doesn't nullify the point. If you invoke that imagery, then you need to try and embody those tenets to the best of your ability. Whether you're Che or Julius.

@YT-xk5jl You need to learn to think abstractly instead of concretely Mr/Mrs "Big Brain". The idea of a revolutionary is an idealized image that no one person can fully embody. As we all know, human beings are deeply flawed. I used Che as an example of a good representation of someone who embodies the core tenets of what constitutes a revolutionary. It doesn't mean that he's the quintessential example. Like it or not, people have an image of what a revolutionary is supposed (given the principles they espouse ) to look like, and Che is an accessible example for many people ...
I don't know of any poor person who was pulled out of poverty by another poor person, but I know of a lot of poor people who were pulled out of poverty by rich people

Malema's lifestyle contrast with his political rhetoric. Julius Malema has been accused of hypocrisy due to the contrast between his lavish lifestyle and his political rhetoric advocating for the poor and working class.[2][3]
Despite positioning himself as a champion of the working class and calling for the nationalization of mines and banks, Malema is known for his love of expensive goods such as Breitling watches and Gucci handbags, which he openly flaunts.[2][3] This behavior is seen as hypocritical by many who argue that Malema is exploiting the poor for political gain while enjoying the benefits of capitalism himself.[2][3]
Additionally, Malema has faced criticism and legal troubles related to allegations of tax evasion and corruption, further undermining his credibility as a leader fighting for economic justice.[3] His past convictions for hate speech have also been a point of contention, as they seem to contradict his claims of representing the marginalized.[3]
While Malema has been able to build a significant political following, especially among young and poor black South Africans, his hypocrisy and controversial behavior have raised concerns about the sincerity of his populist agenda and the potential dangers he poses to South Africa's democracy and economy.
My problem with false media narratives is that even the ChatGPT prompts agree with nonsense. I don't know what keywords you have put for this output but normalise doing research and stop feeding into anything the media says....

If he behaves hypocritically the voters will notice and it will show up in his support. To me the bloated size of government is much more obscene than this single minor event. South Africans are pretty unanimous in WHAT we want to achieve, (e.g. eliminate corruption and poverty as a start), but we are divided on HOW, i.e. with what ideologies and economic policies we should follow to achieve these goals. There are many countries that tried the marxist/socialist route which advocated for equality over equity, and which are now basket cases, and there are many countries that achieved economic success following free market and even libertarian principles that have achieved spectacular success in reducing poverty. I would rather trust politicians (e.g. Herman Mashaba) who have actually run businesses (where the real value and jobs are created), than the career politicians who don't know how to do anything but distract and divide the population. Bigger government is not the solution, it's the problem.
@Brucejpw there’s nothing hypocritical about this. Malema has never said don’t wear fancy shoes at a fancy event. He said don’t display wealth in the face of poverty. Durban Fest is filled with rich people not poor. And people can do whatever they like. Most EFF supporters/ support base are going nowhere. Whether Malema wears a R28 shoes or R28k shoes

Just because you have something in common with someone (e.g. Race) does not mean you represent what they represent, it also does not mean if what you represent is different then it is automatically bad. Some black leaders think all black people want the exact same thing. Fundamentally a group of people may want the same thing but not in the same order of priority.

The reality is .... Mandela was not poor ... he lived in Houghton a very affluent suburb, as much as anything else I think it is attitude rather than material things. Politicians often have side hustles and businesses etc that existed before their entry into politics. Also political connections do not hurt when it comes to business ... no problem with that as long as it is above board. I think actions speak louder than words ... represent the poor etc in action and that will speak louder than any words or gucci loafers. SA is not the USA where business is run by an intermediary while you are president!
The other reality is ... that in the case of the EFF they are in parliament not in government so they have no control of policy or spending ... they are merely a voice. I believe most people would rather be represented by someone who is successful that one who is not. The clothing is a representation of this ... in the correct places. Does Julius arrive in the townships dressed like that?
Yes I am sure Kwame Nkrumah, Malcom X, Marcus Garvey, Thomas Sankara, Chris Hani, Subhas Chandra Bose all wore and showed off their designer clothing while advocating for the economic freedom for their people. I really hope one day people can wake up.

@jeronimodavidgaroupa5143 He is not spending tax money because he is not running a government department that has a public budget.
"Apparently" the shoes R30 000, the jacket he's wearing is around R50 000, the wife's dress is around R60 000 and her earring are worth around R130 0000, him and he's wife are dressed in almost R300 000 worth of clothing in one night, he's salary cannot afford him this sort of opulence, he is not a business mogul, we're just trying to understand how he is this wealthy especially with all the corruption that goes on in SA.

His lifestyle doesn't align with his political ideology, we need to hold the EFF to those standards. Socialism does not align with opulence.

CIC grow up poor, he even said he doesn't want to join us in our Alexander shacks he wants us to join him in those Sandton mansions.
Its a one time event seeing Malema wearing such shoes. Why cant he be in his best when attending a ceremony or party. mostly we see malema in ordinary clothes including party T-shirts. To say Malema should not buy good clothese and shoes is not fair. Being a representative doesnt mean just live poor yet you have. What is the point of pretending to be poor yet people know that you are thge wealthiest. Does Elon Mask wearing poor mean he is now poor? Some arguments are dumb. The EFF is doing well in helping the poor. But that does not mean they should not buy and wear what they want if they can afford it.
I don't have a problem with a revolutionary wearing quality clothing and driving a quality car like Haval.
But the question is what is quality. I know for sure a R700 Truworths pair of shoes won't last long while a R5k latest Flosheim will last for many years. Is it really necessary to wear a R30k shoe? Will it last for generations even of worn everyday?
Is it ok for socialism advocate to drive a R1.5m capitalist Mercedes car instead of a communist R500k Haval?
What if it was a birthday present from his wife or members of his organizations donated to appropriate the job he is doing for the organization.
No contradiction at all. Malema can wear those shoes with pride.
He must also stop criticizing people when they build their mansions of their choice and bank their own money under the matrass bcos he can also buy a pair of shoes worth over 30000. Tshwene ha e pone makopo. This is what politicians are after boasting about designer clothes meanwhile people can't even afford a loaf of bread and we are the ones who are voting for them, even if he started polics early in life, we also started voting early in life so what is the difference
Poverty mentality says if you are African, a genuine African, you must be poor, look poor, live in a dirty township and a small dingy house. Poverty mentality and lack of self-love gets you to criticize those who oppose the narrative and live an exemplary life to which all Africans should aspire for. So Fotsek to self haters. Leave Julius alone.
Fair point.
Malema ideologies makes him to be judged by the people, we black are not stupid some of us are reading books and newspapers. He advocates for Marxism and leninsm but he's worth billions of dollars and stays in Sandton with white people under DA while his voters are black and stay in Alexander township under Eff. My brother his shoes can feed many families in Alexander or take many kids to good schools with only 1 pair of Gucci shoes. Che Guevara and Chris Hani warned us about such revolutionaries, Malema is a capitalists behind the scenes and Socialist in front of your eyes.
He didn’t steal the land and enslave the entire human race to buy his Gucci. That’s his style and this criticism is too old.
You said it right: “action, empathy, contribution” that’s meaning representation. On what they wear, when and how is truly no one’s business but theirs.
Malema is not the problem. The problem is his supporters who compare him to Thomas Sankara
The same person that was wearing a Thomas Sankara T-shirt during campaigns?
Personally i do not believe the EFF politics are genuine or they will do what they claim to represent. If you have watched Julius Malema interview with Faith Mangope or Mbuyiseni Ndlozi debate with Herman Mashaba you will pick up an element of classism or insensitivity around ownership and participation in industries like Spaza Shops, Waiters, Truck drivers, general workers.
Okay what must he wear? Clothes/shoes from Shein? We need to grow up... He has money, it's not a secret.
Floyd thinks Cuba is the ideal but meanwhile it is the opposite you can say what you want about sanctions but then you must ask how Fidel managed to have multiple huge yachts and mansions.
Is this his first public appearance since elections? Because I'm searching for his stance now and this is all I see.
H&M in canada is like pep stores cheap and affordable
So what's wrong with what he wears?? Should he dress down to please other? How often does people.in uniform gets to dress up? Wearing a 30,000 rand shoes, what's so wrong with that? He works and earned a salary. If one dresses in uniforms clothes everyday, when he's stepping out for a function, he should dress the best! He should he have "dress down? He had dressed like pauper they would be talks! people of EFF are in uniforms every day so when the occasions arrive, such as going to a GALA, if any members want to put on big SPLASH with expensive outfits, it shouldn't be seen as extravagant, not every day thing, moreover, it's his money? he has right to make a SPLASH ONCE IN A WHILE!! As long as his money is legit' LEAVE THE MAN ALONE! How often does this happen??
Did you comment before watching?
Is supporting African designers dressing down. What a wow. 😢Him wearing expensive suits to work, it's okay I guess. But he wears overall to represent those who vote him. Then explain why doesn't he and his wife use the Durban July as an opportunity to show case an African designers, from shoes to accessories. Wants to unite one Africa so we can trade easily. So there is African designers he could have chosen. Give a talented artist a break and make them big. Is he not a sell out for the economic empowerment program he is all about.
The thing is that the wear overalls during parliamentary sitting as a sign of representating the poor ... hypocrites these ones
But can’t you represent the poor even if you are not poor.
@UhuruUhuru read my post again you'll realize that I didn't say what you've posted
JM loves the colonial clothes. His wife, colonial nails, eyelashes, gowns
Can you please talk about the alliance of Sahel and analyse the speech of Ibrahim Traore, General Tiani, Colonel Goita.
The problem I have is a man complaining about "white monopoly capital" but spends his money on white owned spaces, goods and services.
If we follow this argument of politicians adjusting their lifestyle to a modest and non-opulent manner then we might as well say they should never attend events like DJ or fancy events.
When you working, you budget for what you want, so he did
😂😂Even boers wear expensive stuff and drive those two tanks cars, simply that they wear non-commercial clothes, but if you look, even their farm clothing in their shops are too pricey.
That Tito Mboweni photo had me on the floor loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, okare that special uncle in the family we've accepted over the years nje
One thing that people miss is that, Julious has a job and a salary. He uses his money like anybody else to buy himself what he love. It is very narrow minded for people to think a public representative should look poor because they fight for poor people.
A scientist who speaks politics... Perfect, definitely my new favourite podcast
He will say "It was a GIFT"
What type of silly ,stupid question is he suppose to answer…why don’t you also target others who wear more than gucci…u focus on the wrong things when it comes to the right people…captured🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
😂😂 chest pains are real.... If he is captured can you imagine how much he just got paid?? WMC doesn't play. He can buy all his followers a gucci purse. Even the men. Well, its mostly gents. So maybe he will buy something else. What do you think?
you commented before watching, thats not a sign of critical thinking, unless you are a prophet?
@@UhuruUhuruuseless lazy anticipations😅😅😂
Bro your eye-specs are luxurious too!!
Can a poor person get you to the promise land? Just a question.
Nothing new he always does
