  • Scott Speed takes on America's most twisted road: THE DRAGON. Cutting through the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina's state line, this portion of the US 129 might make it one of the most dangerous roads stretching across 11 miles with 318 curves.

Ahhhhh....126 the dragon, aka deals gap.
It's been a while since I've road it. A group of us that raced ama/wera street bikes would race it during the summer. All 318 (we counted once at 311) timed from the hotel at the bottom to the over look at the reservoir.
Thanks for featuring this video.... takes me back and have me a great smile. 👍

@@dftooj814 Yeah, but one of the reasons the Dragon is so dangerous is that people go out there, overdrive the road and get themselves in trouble. Then it's 45-60 minutes to get an ambulance out to the site (if you are lucky) and the same to get to a medical center (and then not a true trauma center where you'd really want to be after a serious accident). It's a fun road, but untrained numbnuts cover that road like flies on flypaper. The way he was all over the road, I'm assuming that they closed the road for the video shoot. I also wouldn't want to be plowing through the piles of leaves in this video, hoping that I've got traction.
I've almost been in 2 accidents on that road. One time a Harley locked up his brakes in a turn, fish-tailed into my lane and only my quick reaction time, fresh brakes and standing on the petal saved his ass (we wound up bumper to bumper, about 1-2 feet apart when I got to a full stop). The other time a sport-bike took too much speed into a corner and came across into my lane by a foot or more, head-on. I had a bit of shoulder on my side, so put two wheels of my car into the dirt rather than hit him head-on. My alignment wasn't right for the trip home, but I figured it was better than splattering him into the windshield.
