Just discovered these guys. I am close to 70 and spend my UA-cam time reminiscing with the bands of the 60’s and 70’s. All I can say is that new music is alive and well as long as this kind of talent emerges once in a while. What a relief to find a band with something to say and a unique way of saying it.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the comments regarding the sound quality of the recording, Robin's voice and stage presence, and the musicianship of the whole band. However, massive shout out must go to Christian Wargo and his understated, but huge influence, on the band's sound. His high harmonies are so integral to the Fleet Foxes sound. Without them, the band would sound a lot different. Apparently he was solely responsible for the amazing vocal arrangements for the Mykonos coda, one of the loveliest passages of music and harmonies in their back catalogue.

An exceptional band of brothers... as an old guy (61) it warms my heart to see passion and musicality on this scale. Easily as good as any classic band you could mention. The acid test for any act is how they translate albums in a live setting. FF make a monster crowd like this Pitchfork audience seem somehow intimate. Amazing musicianship. Their cover of Curtis Mayfield and the Impression's "Fool For You" was just sublime. Hopefully there are more teenage kids out there starting to want to take the whole thing forward like the Foxes obviously did when they first formed. Simply the best. I believe when it's all said and done, these guys will be remembered as one of the forefathers of modern folk-indie rock. My feeling was the same when Radiohead dropped Pablo Honey and then The Bends soon after, you just knew a legend was born. I feel the same way about The Fleet Foxes. There's just nobody other than, I'd say, Bon Iver, who comes close.

he was a big personality but he was only their drummer, and was apparently more focused on his own solo career than being the drummer of fleet foxes. If anything he was holding them back because he was such a liability towards the end.

He provided some great harmonies and good drumming on Helplessness Blues and tour, but he was a later addition to band, had other musical plans, and was pretty "over it" as the Helplessness Blues tour progressed (he's apologized for that, so good on him). I think he's incredibly talented musician (I like him on guitar more than drums), but I find the sarcasm in his songwriting to be tiresome.

It tends to happen in live performances when vocalists of a certain calibre perform. Recordings can't encapsulate their quality like live performances - as long as the sound equipment and FOH mixer are up to scratch.
