    I just had this done this morning and quite to my surprise, it was not at all what all of you have described. Yes the table is uncomfortable but the process was not painful. I would like to thank the doctor and staff at the Women Health Center, Midland Michigan for treating me with the utmost respect and compassion. I should have my result by Friday. I am a cancer survivor of almost 13 years.

    I know this video is several years old, but I just had this procedure today. This video really helped me to understand what was going to happen. It was not painful at all for me. My doctor numbed me with the same medicine you would get at the dentist, and once the biopsy needle is placed in your breast more numbing medicine is given to your breast. I only felt a slight burning of the medicine during injection, but it's the same like I have felt at the dentist. I hope my comment will help relieve the anxiety of this procedure. God bless!

    I had my biopsy done yesterday and it was a breeze. The only thing I felt was the numbing needle and it was just a tiny pinch. The whole procedure from start to finish took 25 minutes and most of that was them taking pictures, first to locate then to make sure they got them. Your breast is compressed the whole time but nothing like getting a mammogram, after the procedure they took 2 mammo views to make sure the chip was in place. Strips are placed over the tiny cut as well as gauze pads.

    I had this stereo mammogram this morning, July 2, 2021. I’m 40 years old with extremely dense breast tissue and loosely grouped calcifications (reason for biopsy). The procedure was painless and took approximately 30 minutes. The only pain felt was the numbing shots. I’m a bit sore, but it’s not unbearable. Results should be back in about 4 days. Don’t be discouraged, my experience was positive.

      @@jance12 Hi. I’m great. Thank you for asking. I have since had an excisional biopsy/lumpectomy because the results of the first biopsy diagnosed me with “atypical lobular hyperplasia.” So, a couple weeks later, I decided to have that small area of tissue removed. Surgery went well, healing well. The pathology results of the tissue removed was diagnosed as lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS). It’s not cancer, but it increases my chances of breast cancer if not removed. Surgery was the right option for me and my peace of mind. It did not alter the appearance of my breast at all, just a tiny incision that is hidden by my bra. Are you having a procedure done too?

      I’m having this done on Monday and I’m really nervous. I already have anxiety from PTSD so I’m freaking out about it. Why don’t they numb the area with numbing gel before they put the anesthetic needle in like they do at the dentist. I’ve had lots of cortisone shots and the skin is always numbed before the needle is put in. I’m so scared it’s going to be cancer but it doesn’t run in my family at all and everyone in my family has dense breasts. I’m still nervous though.

She said she would give me would inject more pain medication and wait longer time for the pain medication to take effect. She said she understood that I know my body. I also told her that I have a needle phobia so she gave me a prescription for 5 Adivan tablets and told me to take 1 about an hour before the procedure. I really like her. She's very caring. She said this should not be a painful experience. I may feel a little burning or stinging when the pain medication is first injected, but after that I shouldn't feel anything at all.

  • @iamenvymetoo
    @iamenvymetoo 2 роки тому +1

    Had 1 stereotactic and 2 core needle biopsies all in the same breast. Do not be afraid to ask for more numbing meds. This is key! I had to ask for more Lidocaine for all 3 before I didn't feel anything. Even felt the doctor making the incision on one. Ask for more!!!! Just know that its not nearly as bad as youre thinking and thats coming from someone who had 3 on the same day on the same breast.

  • @HalleyDeVesternBand
    @HalleyDeVesternBand 10 років тому

    I think the one done lying down on the back (the steretactic) is a bit more accurate, since they can manipulate the breast with mammogram-type plates to move the breast tissue out of the way and the needle is guided to the exact spot. Of course, that is the longer, more complicated procedure.

    My first biopsy was on Friday, May 13th, 2014 to remove some tissues for review of Cancer. My next scheduled appointment is on Monday, July 7th, 2014. If I hadn't felt comfortable enough during and after the tissue sample biopsy, I would have asked for a different method for the full tissue section removal. I also have Lombard back issues, and that was my main concern for discomfort, and I experienced very little to none. Even my neck didn't hurt resting on the Styrofoam cushion as my left breast was aligned on the nipple pincher section below me. I know it sounds worst then it felt. Personally, I would prefer all my mammograms be done in this machine (minus the needle which I barely, and I do mean barely felt) verses the standard stand-up, twist this way, pull the skin from the arm-pit, squish the breast down to paper thin, and repeat a few more ways before changeling to the other breast, and repeat. Sometimes that procedure takes longer, is more uncomfortable, and sometimes leaves bruising. The Biopsy mammogram machine dangles the breast into a positioning post which firmly holds the nipple and gently tugs the breast down to make the area/section more viably accessible for the procedure(s). If you like receiving massage(s), think of the biopsy table as a massage table, and relax.
    However, if you are super sensitive to being touched, you might feel things differently than I or another person does, and that is something you will want to mention at your exam / procedure.

  • @suea58

    I took a couple of tylenol about an hour before the procedure (today) because I knew they would be doing a few mammograms, and my breasts are pretty tender. I felt a tiny sting when the doctor gave me the numbing meds via a needle. It was a little uncomfortable laying on the table in one position. I did take my iPod and listened to music the whole time to take my mind off what was going on. It was not bad at all, and mine took a little longer than normal.

    I just had this done and was not numb AT ALL! It was the worst pain ever!!! I am not trying to scare any one but I would just make sure that your Dr. numbs the area. The nurse kept telling the Dr that I could feel it but it was like he didn't care. He just kept on. I have been diagnosed with Atypical Hyperplasia and am seeing a surgeon on Thursday. I hope the wire-guided biopsy isn't as painful! (fingers crossed)

    I will just add to the comments below. I had this procedure yesterday as well and the most uncomfortable part of the experience was having to lay so still for so long. I'm also very claustrophobic, so I had a bit of extra anxiety being secured down in this position. Your neck will likely be sore from laying in a certain position for so long, but it's bearable. I believe 100% that God is going to heal me. I have stopped eating sugar and have started eating bitter apricot seeds which have been proven to kill cancer. I’ve learned so much in the last two weeks about your body and how cancer has an emotional factor attached to it and usually a crisis type event had happened a few years prior. A plant-based diet is required to get your body to an alkaline state and exercise is required to get oxygen into your body. Cancer cannot exist in an oxygen rich environment. I will not do chemo. Yeah, I think it would be quite rare to have pain that long afterwards unless something else was causing it. Honestly, the actual pain involved is minimal. It's just a little weird, this procedure, and yes it can be uncomfortable to lie on your stomach perfectly still all that time, but there is not a lot of pain from the actual procedure. As soon as the needle is guided in, it shoots additional numbing medicine into the tissue so it doesn't hurt more than a little sting or a pinch.

I knew it wasn't numb enough when the large bore needle was inserted and they said they had introduced LA through it but it made no difference. They didn't take all of the samples expected as I was shaking so much. I am horrified this amazing technology can be let down by inadequate LA which is so straightforward.

      Unless you've developed a transporter of some sort, there is no other way to get a tissue sample from deep beneath the skin. This is an essential tool for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

    i just had this proceedure done. it was nothing to it. when they deaden the area before they started, i didnt really feel it. the most uncomfortable part was lying on the laying on the table, the rest is nothing. i think the proceedure it self was probly all about 15-20 minutes. what tkes so long is getting ready for it. i was told to take tylenol for pain and i had it done aroun 945 this am and i was on my way home by 10:30. its nothing trust me its looks scary but it not that bad at all

      Tissue density (dense tissue apparently doesn’t numb as well), location of the lesion (close to the chest or skin is said to be more painful) and individual pain thresholds can all impact whether you have feeling during this procedure.

    It sounds like it might be more painful too. All the pressure, even with a local. Online women have been complaining about pain for months afterwards. But maybe they had some condition before the exam that caused them more pain. Sure is better though than the surgery would be. :)
