I just wanted to say thank you. I am a Christian that watches this podcast, as well as the Mile Higher, and I really appreciate how you don't bash the faith. A lot of people that I listen to that have walked away from their Christian upbringing make fun of it and I just appreciate how respectful you all are of all faiths and beliefs. It's refreshing.

I have noticed that too. It is very refreshing. As a Christian who enjoys exploring other points of view and life experiences regardless of how dark or tragic they are, I also enjoy feeling welcome to do so without feeling like I have to stick up for myself. There is nothing I hate more then assumptions based on ones chosen faith.

When it comes to Crowley being on the beatles album cover art you have to remember that although the beatles were very much a main stream "pop" band there was also a period of time where some or all of the members were experimenting with lsd and traveling to places like india and I'm sure that they had their fair share of interest in the occult and all that stuff.

The mountain climbing aspect of Crowley's life is super fascinating. Back then they didn't even have the tech climbers have today. I doubt they even had oxygen that could be worn easily. They didn't have the gear that keeps people warm today. When you think of the cold wind always blowing at those heights, anyone would have to have a deep personal determination to pull it off... it's mind blowing to look into these climbers back in those eras and the obstacles they had to overcome to reach those summits. It's super amazing!

Sgt Pepper was a nickname of Alestair Crowley. In the title song of the album, the Beatles say "It was 20 years ago today, Sgt Pepper taught the band to play" referring to some kind of education or friendship with Crowley. He had a huge influence in those times because he knew a lot of influential people. That's why he was on the album.

Seems like Crowley was a man who was driven by his hatred of Christianity. The Christian worldview he was given as a child seemed to have seriously let him down when his father was taken from him as a child, he didn’t have the resources to properly deal cope with reality so he attempted to live like an atheist. But like many ex Christians-turned agnostic/atheist, probably understood that strict physicalist worldview leads to a boring, dull and depressing life and he turned to every other metaphysical worldview, but Christianity, for spiritual wisdom. I like you guys diving into more of these stories where you can wrestle with the themes and philosophical figures in history!

Aleister Crowley was definitely interesting and did a lot of.... odd.... things. I haven’t looked into most of the rituals he did so this may be tame in comparison to other things he got into, but “The Cake of Light” made me a little sick to my stomach. It was basically a biscuit with menstrual / period blood, semen, the blood of a child, blood / semen of his followers and enemies, and the blood of a beast / animal. Which then was EATEN during this “Mass of the Phoenix” ritual.
Yeeeahhh I’mma have to pass on that one buddy. I’ll stick to red velvet cheese cake thanks lol. You couldn’t pay me to eat a pastry made with period blood, animal blood, regular blood (especially a child’s 🤬) and some dude’s nut butter. No ma’am no sir

Thanks for presenting this talk about Uncle Al with clarity, respect and open-mindedness. He was such a balanced yet controversial blend of light and dark that it can be quite uncomfortable to realize that he is not easily labeled as either hero or anti-hero - or maybe he was both simultaneously. He's an eccentric enigma, that's for sure.
As a Thelemite, it's refreshing to find someone presenting this topic with a sense of curiosity and with a desire to understand and explore this history - instead of the usual knee-jerk, fear-based reactionary judgments, mockery and obtuse commentary.
Crowley's life and adventures are a fascinating rabbit hole to get sucked into and always leaves me with much food for thought.
Interesting point comparing Tesla and Crowley too, if nothing else, they were definitely both geniuses who contributed greatly to their respective fields of study. Thanks again for an enjoyable episode.
Btw, just imho, it seems that you are well on your way to finding and fulfilling your own Will as well, Josh, via whatever path it ends up being - Uncle Al would be chuffed, lol.
    Cheers to you both. 93 93/93 🤓🙏

Well done guys, in fact I'd say brilliant! I know a lot about our man Crowley but you taught me some things I didn't even know about, and went into more detail than I knew aswell. I look forward to more in the future, I'd be interested if you did one on Dion Fortune, another occultist and associate of Crowley. Your Pazuzu Algarad episode was a good episode too, I'd never heard of him until you covered it. Thankyou guys.

I absolutely adore both you and Kendall, I really enjoyed this podcast, opened my eyes a lot. I also grew up in a Christian home and was told Aleister was wicked but as you were speaking about his beliefs I was kind of in awe, even before learning about him I was always attracted to his character. Call is energy or whatever, he pulled me in and I had no idea why. I’m a newly found Christo Pagan and started venturing on my own path and so much of this just made me think he was very much misunderstood. Thank you for such an awesome eye opening journey for me this morning.

When I was pregnant with my third child, I was determined to give him a Harry Potter name. I went through a dozen of them, but my husband wouldn't agree. I suggested Alastor after Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, and my husband said he loved that name, so that's what we went with. I didn't find out till way later the reason he was so partial to the name was because of Aleister Crowley. So yeah, I have a child partially named after Aleister Crowley. I'm not sure how I feel about that lol

There are many people like this who are even more insightful and experienced but didn't publish works of writing or want to be recognized by society at all.
