The beauty of these films is that they are so easy and fun to watch. Are they gonna win any oscars? Of course not, but the purpose of movies is to allow us a chance to disconnect with the real world and enjoy a few hours of fantasy, and these films do that. They’ll never be the IJ series, but a good old fashioned, history based adventure film on a Sunday afternoon sounds like a blast to me.

Working in a college library, an Easter egg that I geeked-out over was the call number. It started with the letter Y. There no Y-numbers in the Library of Congress system; perfect for a classified designation. Kudos to the writer who knew to incorporate that detail for us book nerds.
Beautiful, that the book has pages never intended to be seen in the movie. If the actors thumbed through it, or dropped a loose insert, there would be something there; no blank pages.

I can appreciate the paper too. In the last couple of days, I was reading through scans of a journal from 1815 by Colin Robertson talking about his journey to the Red River Settlement under the employment of the Hudson's Bay Company. On the pages of the journal, you can clearly see the laid and chain lines, and parts of the watermark are spread across multiple pages (the sheets were cut to make the pages and bind the book). The writing technique is quite beautiful, the spelling of words is interesting (including the use of the long s in some words), and it's a really neat look at history. I learned to appreciate a lot of this stuff, in large part by learning from Adam talking about and appreciating old paper.

One of the interesting pages I have made out from this was about the water powered car aside from the alien crash that most of us can see in this video. Apparently someone had made an engine that would just make fossil fuel irrelevant, but the prototype was confiscated for private use and to protect the fuel industry. Funny to think in the context of the movie these things were true.

You would think that they would make 2 copies of this book specifically with the original one being in the white house and the copy of it going to the natural history museum

I wonder if the prop for the Grail Diary still exists. It would be fun to get a video on it.

Both where so right at the end, prop makers get so little effort for the great work they do, sometimes even direct their own films

The good thing about my memory of movie details is that I don’t remember them very well. So, I can watch a movie years later and it like a new movie. All these comments about “page 47”. I’m like what in the heck is that about? Got me thinking about watching again.

Fun fact: Page 47 is actually blank in the acutal prop, as Ross MacDonald wanted it to be left to the viewer's imagination.

Or how many licks it actually takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. The world may never know, but I bet Nick Cage can help with that. 😂

Looking at this and seeing the flying saucer blue print and Alien photo. I wonder if those where Easter Eggs the makers put in there hoping to see in the film as inside jokes.

We love the national treasure movies at our house. They’re just good fun, and I find it hard to be mad at them. They aren’t all that serious, they’re just entertaining

Every generation needs its own version of that kind of film, and for anyone the first of the type you ever see will always hold a special place. In the archeo-adventure genre, mine was Romancing the Stone (which I saw before Indiana Jones, even though it was made 3 years later.)

Love the prop store. Ive bought quite a few and while im pre approved for the auction as usual i have to hold off on buying more as my wallet is still crying in my pocket. "Feed me!" It says. I do, but im also always using it Xp
First one i bought was a sword from the Warcraft movie

Conspirator 1: "How do we keep this thing, too powerful for release, from ever seeing the light of day?"
Conspirator 2: "Well, let's divide it into many parts. And scatter the parts around the globe."
    Conspirator 1: "Excellent idea."
Conspirator 2: "We can seal the parts in buried vaults, protected with booby traps."
    Conspirator 1: "Great, great!"
Conspirator 3: "And we can intricately document the locations of the vaults, and construction of the traps, with instructions on how to defeat them. Then obfuscate the information with an easily deciphered system of riddles, based on common public information."
Conspirators 1 and 2: In unison, "BRILLIANT!"
