He's so happy to get to brag about his wife. This was amazing and just a small look into how much he marvels at his wife. That makes me smile.
@@2000jago I was talking to a therapist (not my therapist, but one nonetheless) about how my wife is a Saint. And I said that he probably heard that all the time. And he said no, almost never.
@Jake Braiding-Watson You seem like a joy in this world. I'll pass on taking your advice though. 😁
@Jake Braiding-Watson You offered no point. Just came in telling me to shut up. I hope you actually bring joy to this world outside of your trolling here, and that you actually find happiness. Happy Holidays Mr Braiding-Watson.

Hi Adam, First off: Thank You for getting my Surname Correct! It is rare anyone does at first glance! Second: When I say "Show And Tell" with regards Mrs. Donttrythis, I don't mean her. I respect her decision on privacy, as well as yours. I was referring to items she has Made, worthy of being transported to the Cave, where you show off your pride in her work. I know, in the past, you mentioned that you spent an evening with the family making the DoDo Skeletons as entertainment. It made me curious, all these years later, if there was something specific you would show off. I would be interested in the work of Thing 1 and 2 in this regard as well. You talk much about your Family, and we have personally witnessed the sheer awesomeness of your Mother when you needed some sorting done. You seem to come from a history of productive, creative people, and it simply made me curious if this extended to your life partner... dare I say, even the previous one whom you had the Twins with...
Thank You for all you do, Adam! You are an inspiration for me with regards to building and making!

"When you want real expertise, you should pay for the time of that expertise" - Great advice for everything
That often makes advice previously worth nothing suddenly cost something. Most cost doesn't make it better.

A furniture maker walked through a museum one day and saw one of his chairs on display. It was labeled as an antique and he couldn't convince the people that it was made by him just a few years earlier. Eventually the museum had the chair x rayed and saw a bunch of modern wood screws hidden inside. It's amazing how realistic some things can appear to be unless you really check. Thanks for the great vids.
That must have been an awkward conversation. "You know, that chair from 1753 over there... I made that."
Most artists do not become famous while they are alive but there is a story about Picasso being asked to confirm the provenance of a painting that was supposed to be part of his blue period. He looked at it and claimed it was a forgery. One of his assistants said "but sir, I remember you painting this very work" to which he replied "I can paint forgeries as well as anyone".
Growing up in my early teens to early adulthood watching The MythBusters on TV I don't think I ever missed an episode. Later after the show was over for several years I came to a point when I realized how important the MythBusters was to me and to the scientific community abroad as I find myself many times during any given month Quoting or referencing things that happened on The MythBusters as I'm sure others do the same I would like to sincerely thank the cast and the crew of The MythBusters for all the hard work dedication blood sweat tears and of course time they gifted the world and the world is a better place because of it thank you and rest in peace Grant
it’s so cool to see Adam drinking Bundaberg Brewed Drinks! I live close(ish) to the town that they’re made in which is Queensland Australia, my favourites of theirs has to be Burgundy Creaming Soda, Sarsaparilla, Guava and Ginger Beer
Re: authentication. In my job (professional fundraiser), we often have questions about the value of donated objects, as the IRS has very strict rules about how to determine their value when they are claimed as charitable deductions. The American Society of Appraisers is a great resource, and I suspect that they may have some members who specialize in movie memorabilia. You will have to pay for their expertise, but remember that these are folks who routinely sign off on appraisals that will be subjected to scrutiny by the Federal government.
Haha, “separation of church and state on that one”. My wife feels the same way.
I liked that as well. I think he should make us eggs. Using only power tools or some such foolishness. XD

Back in 1977 my friend and I would play “Star Trek” with props from the show that his father had picked up. All I remember is his dad “worked there.” Two phasers along with about 5 Tribbles and one communicator. We were 11, and didn’t know any better. Merry Christmas all.
These are the best random comments:"back in the day us kids destroyed priceless parts of history for giggles."
Most of the props back then would have been tossed or destroyed. It's usually the ones the actors and producers took home that survived and have any providence.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Adam,His Family,All of the Tested Crew and all you Fans.
Ditto here too.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! 🤗❤️🖖
When it comes to prop authenticity one also has to keep in mind the mindset of the prop makers of the time: when ST: TOS was being made the prop makers weren't thinking about these being collectible. In fact, had you told them that these props would be highly sought after 50 years later they probably would've laughed. So it's possible that even the original prop makers wouldn't necessarily know what was real and what was fake. Why? Because they weren't really paying attention in the ways that modern prop makers would be paying attention. Plus it was 50 years ago. That's a long time for memories to fade.
Much love to you and your family Adam. Cheers to a great 2022!
I didn’t see the recent RPF discussion but I had my own issue with clearly fake props/costumes being sold as genuine. Last month Heritage Auctions listed a flight suit they said came from Top Gun 1986. They claimed it had “production made but rejected patches” on it. When I pointed out all the inaccuracies to the auction house including the fact that the patches on it came from a set sold on Amazon, they sent me back an email refusing to accept this reality. They turned around and sold it a few weeks later for something like $70k. Someone got ripped off in a big way.
Merry Christmas Adam. Hope you and your family have a amazing day. Thank you to you and all the Tesded staff for all you bring to the world. Merry Christmas Tested Family!
Merry Christmas to you and all the Tested elves, Adam!
Nice to see a bundaberg ginger beer in your hand. Representing Queensland Australia
We do that in the Custom Knife Industry all of the time when assigning a value to a movie knife. Well really, any custom knives, but screen used knives are difficult but most makers use a number system and if they are still alive can tell you if a particular knife was screen used or as part of a say Rambo collector's set. Most dealers have a habit of fully documenting a knife and assigning the value based on similar items. However, the seller does have a right to ask what ever they want for an item.
agreed but they must be aware that asking and getting are 2 diferent things
Wishing you and your Family a wonderful and Merry Christmas
In my opinion.
With Star Trek and really all collecting you should ask yourself if this piece turns out to be miss labeled will it have brought me enough joy to be worth the money spent?
Merry Christmas Tested
Merry Christmas, Tested!!
Merry Christmas from Fredericton NB Canada best wishes for you and the family
Here in Chicago, it is well known that folks selling 'authentic' bricks from the garage wall of the St Valentine's Massacre have sold enough of them to build 5 garages. lol
After the Berlin Wall fell there were tons of people selling pieces of it.
I know exactly how Mr. Savage feels about his wife. I'm married to a genuine genius who speaks six languages fluently and can read ancient Hebrew, Latin, and even Sumerian. There is something really fun and special about being married to a woman who is utterly self-assured in her intelligence and abilities, and doesn't care about most conventional measures of wealth/stature/success. And the fact that she's also an extraordinary mother (to the point that friends and strangers alike comment on how amazing she is with children) really just brings it all together.
Merry Christmas Adam

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Adam, his family and everybody at Tested and to everybody reading this. If you want to read about a legendary maker and his wife read about Dave Packard and his wife Lucille. Their first run of HP product would be built into an enclosure whose panels were painted then baked in Lucille's oven. Dave later said that food cooked in that oven afterwards would have a slight chemical taste!
Being brutally honest, I would rate having something made and signed by Adam well above an original prop anyway... I know he signs for very good reasons of avoiding his work being passed off as someone elses / original which is noble, but I would just love something in my shop signed 'Savage'. :)
I absolutely agree!
If I ever get the chance to meet adam and he is willing to sign something, i'm going to ask him to sign one of my tools 'Savage" in a white paint marker, so it looks like i swiped it from his shop
What you say about you and Mrsdonttrythis really making good use of the kitchen gives me actually a pretty interesting thought: When you are feeling unwell- like a total hot-garbage head cold or something along those lines, what is your go-to "feel better" food? Mine is usually a grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of tomato bisque (and maybe some sour dill pickle chips if my throat is feeling up to eating something crunchy).
Culinary pro-tip on Grilled Cheese Sammis: Use Beemster instead of Cheddar or American (or whatever else). It will take you to another realm!
"I'm a breakfast guy...that's my jam." :D and he didn't even notice the pun.
I'm sure we'd all like to meet Rita but I think we can also fully understand why she may prefer to stay in the shadows.
Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and prosperous new year to you both.
So in regards to having a professional evaluation into the authenticity of props, I seem to remember the guys from Pawn Stars having a “prop appraiser” examine various items for them, one of said items being a whip that the possessor claimed was used on screen in an Indiana Jones movie. If I remember correctly though, it turned out the whip wasn’t used on screen, but was a spare on set, or something like that. Long story short, “prop authenticators” are out there, you just have to do some searching/networking to find them. Cheers. 😉
Or just take your item to Pawn Stars and have them reach out to their contact. lol
Here's the thing about paying for "originality": the vast, vast majority of the time, it means bupkiss. Literally the only time it matters whether you have "an original" or an accurate replica is if you're doing forensic analysis of how the original was put together - the techniques and materials used, etc. And even then, it gets blurry in many cases - Star Trek TOS was mentioned. Well, the main Enterprise model from the series is in the Smithsonian, and has been through several restorations and repaints. At this point, a lot of the value - the data - is not there in the physical model any more. (And further - even *un*restored stuff isn't as it was when it was created, owing to the ravages of time. Dyes will start fading or yellowing. Wood will start rotting, especially when the original finish starts wearing or flaking...)
Plus, when we're talking about movie and TV props, a lot of stuff has two colour schemes - the one you see with your eyes on the prop, and the one recorded by the camera (TOS again, the yellow-gold uniforms in the series were actually a dull green in-person.) So, even if you want something that just sits in the corner and looks pretty... the "real thing" in good condition may not be as pretty as the replica.
Honestly, I'm not sure where I'm going with this, except to say that "originality" as an end of itself to sit in a cabinet is really the preserve of speculators and "investors", IMO.
Merry Christmas! 🎄
My girlfriend is the same with cooking. Amazing!!! We have a rule, she cooks and I clean up works brilliantly haha.
Also got your book for Christmas Adam. Looking forward to reading it! Merry christmas to you and your family 🎄🎄🎄
I listened to the audio book version. Highly recommend!
With this mention of cooking… ever think we could see a One Day Grilled?
I've been on a prop replica forum for Daleks from Doctor Who, and there was some discourse recently over a prop that appeared in a Prop Store auction. It was weird, because it looked authentic, including flaws that you would only get in an original or a recast, but the prop itself couldn't be screen-matched.
One possiblity it's from the lost episodes, another it wasn't used on Who but used in another BBC sci-fi production
@@rod.h8064 It wasn't a TV prop, it was one made for a 60s Dr. Who movie starring Peter Cushing. It was from the second movie, "Dalek Invasion: Earth 2150 A.D.". Some of the props for the movie were converted from props made for a stage play. At least one of those stage props was unaccounted for. If that's the prop that was in the auction, it would be weird for it to be converted, only to never appear on-screen.
I make Fake Original Oil Paintings. I don’t advertise. All my customers are by word of mouth. I Always ALWAYS, in an unseen area stamp my mark. To remove it someone will have to destroy or ruin the piece. It’s highly unethical not to do so.
Merry Christmas
Merry christmas!
I love hearing you talk about your wife!
Would love to see some of your dad’s paintings. :D
There is one particular reputable prop selling company that is based in the U.K, who I was going to buy from, but I didn't because of their dodgy pricing. Their fixed prices include prices in British pounds, using the £ symbol, but they also have parallel fixed prices using what most of us would consider to be a dollar symbol $. However they don't stipulate which $ currency they are using.
I wrote to the company to ask which currency they're referring to with their use of the $ pricing*. They told me it's for U.D. dollars. They didn't tell me if potential buyers can choose which currency to pay with (exchange rates fluctuate). Several years later, they still haven't bothered to change their advertising to stipulate which currency they're referring to.
*There are other non-dollar currencies that use the same symbol (eg. Chili pesos or El Salvador Colons) and many countries that use the same symbol for their dollars (eg. New Zealand and Hong Kong).
Oh man, about auction houses trying to follow best practices, try searching for historic arms and armor. Almost everything is listed with a "14thc style" or some other little qualifier that I'm certain people don't pay attention to. They will include a nice paragraph of the classic literature about typology and how that object fits in with the basic understandings of how things should look, but It is so rare to see anyone stand up and say "We don't know if its a Victorian copy".
It's like this weird thing where people get convinced that they know better then the vague description and will waaaay over bid sight unseen, almost like gambling on finding some great lost relic.
Best stories of original Star Trek TOS props are the ones that vanished and reappeared: the Phaser Rifle from “Where No Man has Gone Before” and the Romulan Bird of Prey “Balance of Terror”. Both were one episode wonders that were never seen again (though the Remastered TOS does honor the Bird of Prey by copy/pasting the CGI model into the later Romulan episodes).
Larger props are harder to fake. I know the original shuttlecraft was found and restored. Although the danger of "rediscovered" props is that they could be fakes, even old fakes. And screen matching doesn't always work because the fakers do the same thing.
Thank you Adam. You just inadvertently caused an epiphany.
Plenty of cooking shows out there but more than enough room for one more. Just saying. I'm not even good at cooking but I enjoy watching talented people cooking well. There's a guy in Canada named Glenn I watch his videos. There's a sweet lady who is someone's grandma she passed away a few years ago but her family made a point to capture her on video cooking dishes from the Depression and it's some of the most wholesome heartwarming videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. Would love to see Adam and his wife compete over who makes the best omelet.
We need to hear more about the "bomb me sandwiches" that the subtitles think she makes! (I know they're banh mi sandwiches, but this is some serendipity!)
I'm glad you brought this up because I couldn't understand what the hell he was saying, and I tried to search a few different things it sounded like, to no avail. Now that I know what they are, I'll have to try one.

Hello Adam. Have you built/created props or anything else that you get attached to or so proud that it turned out better than you thought you had the ability to do, that you're reluctant to let go of it to who you made it for or sell?
I'm new into woodworking and I catch myself doing it on some of my builds.
So, on a slightly different question - has anyone else noticed that the Black Series helmets are a bit small? Like maybe 7/8 full size? I had this problem with the Black Series Poe Dameron helmet from last year, and this year I got both the Boba Fett and the Mandalorian helmets, and both were so small that I almost couldn’t get them on at all.
My old green EFX Collectibles Wedge helmet (of which there were only 500 made) is much, much roomier. Heck, even my real-deal US Navy flight helmet from the 90s is also much roomier.
Ask Roger Christian if a Star Wars prop is original. He loves to talk about it.
I love cooking but never actually thought of it as being 'making'!
I perfectly understand if she wouldnt want to appear on tested by i would love to see it and compare and contrast her cooking with adams building and the use and importance of tool use like pots pans blenders ovens and using the right ingredients with some nice knolling beforehand but also seeing how the food can only be enjoyed once but you can enjoy it as a group of friends or as a family
Has the algorithm introduced you to Adam Ragusea? He's got a lot of different kinds of videos, and some of them really are just hands-on experiments with food and cooking techniques, in a very no-nonsense, practical way. You may or may not like it, but I see some overlap in the appeal.
My perspective:
"If you are going to buy a prop that cost $10,000..." - consider the needs of the destitute with your next series of thoughts please.
Merry Christmas Adam. May God be with you and Bless you on this special day.
In Jesus’s name amen.
I just want to opine that the answer to "should I spend tens of thousands of dollars on this tv prop" is always "no". Even if you have more money than you know what to do with the answer is still "no" (with the added side note of "you should not have that much money; use it to lobby for greater taxes for the rich.")
Maybe it's just me but for some of the props that Adam makes I would pay more for a Adam made and signed piece than for an original one, but maybe that's just me
Heh, you beat me to it. That was my exact thought.
I think with props it can be insanely difficult to tell whether something is genuine or not, given that most props are essentially 'fakes' by design. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between a 17th century sword and a replica made for a movie... but way more difficult to tell the difference between the replica from the movie and one made after the fact.
I think the only 'true' authority on whether a prop is genuine or not is a yes or no from the person who actually made it...especially today given the information available and the lengths people will go to in order to get their own version to be as accurate as possible.
Merry Christmas y’all! Got a SIGNED Savage apron today… and I’m going to beat it to hell! :))
Besides a landspeeder, what's the finest movie prop you covet?
Bundaberg Ginger Beer for the win 👍
Thanks Adam 😃
I like Adam more all the time.
Was that Bunderberg GInger Beer (sugar free) you are drinking there? Their range of brewed soft drink range is quite extensive.
I'd guess that guy that brings props onto the show, that runs prop auctions, has a network of experts in different areas of the prop/film memorabilia scene. Maybe he could make money triaging people to experts.
Hi Adam, Is Mrs Donttrythis the one who fell in love with the : "Am I missing an eyebrow" Adam? ( Still my fav phrase:)
You mean to tell us Pawn Stars and friends are lying to us with their 30-second appraisals at the drop of a hat? What a surprise.
You should totally bring in something she baked!
I also wonder about changing our mind set on these things. Like would it be cool to have one of the original stings from lord of the rings? Heck yeah, but in the end as long as it looks and functions like it did in the movie does it really make that big of a difference?
If you're a football fan would you rather have the actual football that Tom Brady through his 600TD pass with or a football that looks like the 600TD ball to display in a case.
The mindset of collecting is that YOU have the original that was used on screen and by the actors. Not some reproduction.
I mean if you just want a cool looking replica to play with and hang in your office thats fine too but it then if others inquire what would you tell them?
Cooking is making.
Helló.
Kellemes karácsonyi ünnepeket kívánok!
Azt szeretném kérdezni, hogy van e jelenleg tesztbábu?
Valami újabb?
Is Mrs DontTryThis a maker? Somebody must have made Thing1 and Thing2.
this explains a bit more about why when Adam exploded his hair it wasn't a dealbreaker for them on their first date. XD
"If you want to print cheap poker chips, buy the stickers and chips separately and stick them on yourself."
I find that hard to believe. Don't they have some sort of industrial machine that does the sticking on for them? Why would their be an associated "labor" cost to that? You'd think the expensive part of poker chips would be the custom stickers or markings on the chips.
Methinks industrial machines probably aren't worth the operating cost for low volumes like that
Do I see a Tron Identity Disk floating on the shelf behind you? Have you even done a Tron disk I’d prop?
I just watched halloween documentary, the Shatner mask was made in the 70s by an effects house who just had an old face mold of Shatner from tos they had sitting on the shelf. it wouldn't surprise me those same guys trying to pass off 70s tos replicas at conventions. there used to be no morals at those coventions people used to have tables and tables of bootlegs being sold as bootlegs of every movie and show you could imagine
Buying old firearms is the same. So many fakes and mis-identified stuff out there. The two worst imo are the expensive guns that have clearly been messed with but are sold as original and the training guns not made to fire real ammo (and can blow up if you do) but sold as real guns that can fire full power ammo.
In reference to Adam's wife he mentioned a separation of church and state. I wonder, which is she, the church or the state?
Is that a Ralph Steadman shirt?
I wonder, what is Adam’s ABSOLUTE favorite sci-fi story/show/movie.
So how would you react to something appearing for auction as a "Genuine Adam Savage Reproduction"?
Where would I find something built by you?
Star Trek has the longest running convention history so has the most bad actors involved
👍
Ask Roger Christian if it a Star Trek original

Aaahhh CAKE.
Whoops, he accidentally said his wife's name.
Not that he's seriously trying to keep them 100% private, but i was kinda surprised by it.
Stuff like that for _anyone_ is public record, so it's impossible to keep private. Any public figure's Wikipedia page will have the spouse's name.
@@blindleader42 I know, but considering they call her "Mrs. Donttrythis" in the title, and he usually doesn't bring their names up, it just stood out to me.
If your wife doesn't want to appear in camera, maybe a This Old Tony style of video may fit.
So, is the wife the church or the state?
Could we at least see the poker chips?
