Why The Grace membrane is so important on this? Isn't the 2 layers of black paper sufficient? That must be 5 to 8k just on Grace. But this is why I like watching you guys. You do the right thing no matter what!!
Hi Marc, I can't remember costs but indeed it cost some serious dough. I do remember we didn't get sued for water intrusion. Also, one can't use paper as there is no way to attach the paper over concrete, Cheers, and thank you for those choice kind words. We are waterproofing experts.🕵🏼
@StuccoPlastering I figured it did. But it came out so nice. Maybe you can answer this for me. What is the difference from plaster sand and playground sand? Here, we do not have big plaster yards. So getting plaster sand is not something you come by easily. I notice the plaster sand sort of looks alot like dirt.
Any sand will work as long as it's cleaned and free of sea salts. Some sands are cleaner and finer like Olimpia and Felton, which most plastering yards carry and sell. 👨🏻🏫
Kirk & Jay are Royalty in the stucco application world and I doubt,is my guess, they require any waterproof knowledge after years in that field of work. Hi Will, I have used at least 50 boxes of this stuff (Grace vycor -Self-adhered flashing) and it can be a real drag especially in hot weather. I prefer not to use it especially in the hot sun. The best time is early morning and with 2 guys. I have not tried a roller. Have a great weekend. Kirk Giordano plastering
Hey Mborbon, no we didn't use a primer on this wall. But its new concrete and I pressure washed it with 3,000 psi. That kind of pressure washing to newly poured concrete foundation walls get the dirt and moss off therefor the membrane should adhere well. Of course if you’re not certain you can always do both. Best wishes and have a great day! Kirk Giordano plastering
ALL concrete and masonry surfaces along with denseglas gold absolutely require primer for Grace self adhered membranes. Also it is required that the membrane is rolled with a hand roller. Without primer and rolling the membrane will fail prematurely. It WILL fall off the wall just as the below grade did. I have done many large projects where a Grace field rep will inspect the installation to certify their guarantee. The first 2 things that will get the guarantee denied is not priming and not rolling Both are critical to an acceptable installation. Also it appears you used vycor and bituthene. Why? They are not the same thing.
hey Skydiver, great question, you must be in the trade. An up coming video will show, I scratched just the OSB area and allowed it to set about a week before going back to apply the brown coat. Kirk giordano Plastering
Exzackory, my friend, it's important these walls are clean enough to eat off before trying to adhere any peal and stick., including the Grace, Ice, and water shield.
You seemed to have omitted 2 critical steps when installing Grace self adhered membranes. 1. Primer. Absolutely required for concrete and all masonry. Also on denseglas 2. Rolling the membrane with a hand roller. Either one of these will result in failure of the membrane. And renders the Grace guarantee void. I have installed hundreds if not thousands of rolls of Grace products. Nant under the scrutiny of Grace tech reps due to the sheer size of the project.

A wooden roller might help you out with applying the adhesive backed membrane.
You are pressure washing the walls in order to have a clean place for the membrane to adhere ?
