Ken Smith is an honest gentleman who has continued going to Portishead Town Council Meetings despite being verbally attacked and abused by Portishead Independent Political Party councillors the like of which never happened under the old administration pre 2019.
In that infamous town council meeting in July 2021, he was inappropriately targeted because the cowardly Paul Gardner, Patricia Sterndale, Caroline Goddard & Tanya Slatter knew that two residents who would have prevented the bullying of Ken Smith were sat outside the hall because Covid restrictions had been lifted but the council was insisting on masks despite few residents being in attendance and doors were open. Even then, a councillor took her mask off in the hall anyway. People were also taking them off to speak which was a total waste of time. Ken Smith has never received his apology.

Ken Smith praises three ex Chairs of the council. Ben Aldridge, Jean Lord and Ros Cruse. Mr Smith has good reason to call the councillors a “mean and nasty bunch of people” because he knows what happened to cause the resignations of the excellent and hardworking Ben Aldridge and Paul Churchill. We know too.
Roger Whitfield chairing the meeting, says sarcastically in response, “Thank you very much Ken for yet another opinion”. Ken’s opinion is shared by many although I have to add not all the town councillors in the hall were responsible for the resignations of our two best councillors. Some were supportive. Roger Whitfield may not like residents’ opinion but he could learn from them instead of ignoring them.
