I was an 80s kid growing up in LA and let me tell you it was the BEST decade. From the music, cartoons, sitcoms, movies, sense of freedom/safety and just everything. I feel like everything in the world started going downhill after that. The 80s was such a vibe. I’m glad it’s making a comeback.

In the US, I remember us growing up in the shadow of the Adam Walsh case in the 80s. The moms in our neighborhood were anxious, and we were talking about stranger danger at school. I think a sense of nostalgia sometimes exaggerates the sense we have of past decades feeling or actually being safer.

We didn’t have school shootings in the 80s, on average kids were safer riding their bikes around the neighborhood, or playing outside. Not anymore. I have grown up in the same suburb of LA my whole life. I’ve never seen the amount of theft and robbery as I have now. My catalytic converter was stolen 3 times in one year (2022) which has never happened to me before. I didn’t even know what a catalytic converter was prior to that and I had been driving for 27 years by that point. As a matter of fact, this organized crime was happening to people all over the country (never heard of it happening in the 80s). The Nordstrom (and few other shopping malls) near me have had flash mob retail heists that have never ever happened before. There are home robberies and apartment break-ins increasing. The police won’t even do anything about it. Local retail and chain stores (like Target and CVS) have items locked up behind counters which they never did before. The streets are full of homeless people who were never here before. We’ve had “terrorist” attacks, plenty of wars, false flags and psyops since then not only killing innocent people here and abroad but also setting up a stage to take our free speech, liberty, and rights away. Im not saying the 80s was 100% physically safe. Richard Ramirez (the “night stalker” serial killer was around then in my LA suburb). There have always been kidnappers, killers, and such throughout history. But there was more of a sense of freedom and day to day safety that we simply don’t have today with all the added nonsense that exists now and didnt back then. It’s definitely taken a turn for the worst. Not only lack of safety brought on by fellow citizens but even our own governments with all the sinister stuff they have done and want to do to us in the future. So it’s not really nostalgia. It’s measurable. Our world is and has been changing, and not for the better, if people open their eyes.

I'm not a trend follower and dress for what appeals to me and makes me feel / look great, but it's fun to see if what it's in my closet shows up on the "trendy list". lol YES to shopping secondhand! I've found vintage leather trousers, silk shirts, and cashmere pieces that are still in amazing condition and great quality. One of my favorites is a vintage 80s/90s grey wool, full length herringbone trench with big shoulders and unique belt detail...it's got Saint Laurent vibes and I get compliments on it all the time. ♥
I am so pleased about the red trend. I bought an expensive (well expensive for me) maroon coat 8 years ago. I wore it a few times then it sat in my wardrobe for years. Well I had it dry cleaned and have been wearing quite a lot recently. I also have 2 fuller fitting maxi skirts from my witchy fashion days. They will be perfect for this new trend. I get so much inspiration from you

The roses-for-2024 trend always makes me think of "Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking."
I like roses. I hate fashion snobs; although I probably am one. I might charitably be called "sporty" although "unmade bed" is closer.

One of the biggest trends for 2024 is capris (below the knee). Both trousers and jeans in this style will be popular.
By the way, Zara has already released denim capris with cuffs in the new collection. They look very cool.
The short shorts 😩 I thought they were a long gone nightmare from 2011 when Topshop convinced us all to wear those damn black sequin hot pants on nights out 🥲 that was a flashback I wasn’t expected on a Monday! Think I’ll give that one a miss 😂x

My trend for 2024: Classics. 😂 I was In high school in the 80’s. Too bad I didn’t save any of my pieces. 😅 I always find these types of videos interesting. Good to know what we can expect for the year ahead fashion-wise.

I found 3 pleated plaid midi skirts at Goodwill. 5.00 each. I’m loving wearing them with colored tights and classic loafers. Also, white girly socks are working too. So 80’s with a classic button up structured shirt in pale colors.
I’m so excited by this. Such an easy to watch video and love that lots of it is pretty much classic but with a fun twist here and there. I’m ready! Will be my first year dabbling in fashion publicly too and what a year to jump in 😅

Great vlog Alex. Love the high waist and white dress trend but the short shorts trend reminds me of high waist swim bottoms. Ok for the beach but a big no for out and about. Not many people can carry this look off and let's face it maybe most should not even go thare.

Red is always popular color, more like classic. But I haven’t worn red color for awhile. So Valentino red I think that’s what I am going to get, because as much as I appreciate cooler shades of red burgundy, etc… it’s just not a good fit on my complexion. The same bright white😂 it has to be off white, Have a blessed day🙏❤️

Okay did anyone learn from this that the extremes often swing back every 2 years? It doesnt alway do that but ALWAYS save your fav. Items....they will be back!
I hope the madeira fabric dresses will be fashionable this summer as well. And i would like leather clothes in different colour, and i would like fruit or bird pattern clothes too. I dont want to see any masculin stuff/ official outlook for women.
It's so affirming when clothes I've worn for decades are suddenly 'back in style.' To me, it's just my diverse wardrobe. I'm in a mood for this or that. I always have worn maxi skirts because they look great on me and I've got skinny ankles so nice to cover them. Similarly, pretty much every color is in my wardrobe, and I wear them by mood. High waist pants/skirts, check. But also low waist, though fewer and farther between since I have narrow hips and it's uncomfortable making sure those don't fall off me. All in all, I'd say, buy quality clothes that will last you through today's trends and the next ones too.
Great video. Some of the trends are just not classy at all. The high waisted slacks are so classy, i have never liked low waisted pants, very unflattering. Great video. Loved it. 😊🇨🇦❤️

When you talk about 2024, it would be great if you delineated winter '23/'24 styles from spring/summer '24 fashion. Usually it is easy to tell, but this year the colors and styles are blurred seasonally. Oxblood in summer, for instance. Undie outfits in winter.
