  • This video will help you on checking the trap on a WHIRLPOOL DUET STEAM WFW86HEBW 0 washing machine. A clogged trap can lead to your water/clothes smelling really bad and/or if the water isn't being pumped out to the drain.

The washer is helping me choose all future machines. The most pain in the butt access to that drain filter

I learned a new trick since the last time. if you remove the black part with the two spring clamps on each side (that connects to the filter) that will allow you to empty the water into something (like a baking pan) so the water doesn't get everywhere. Then after the water is emptied you unscrew the filter. I purchased locking pliers from Home Depot to more easily remove the spring clamps.

Our Whirlpool Duet Steamer had wet clothes sitting in the machine for 6 days because the cycle suddenly stopped, E09, F01 Error messages. Called our repairman he was on his to catch his vacation plane, what’s person to do, thank goodness for UA-cam.
We saved us close to $200.00. We followed theses instructions and the machine works beautifully. Thank you!

Thanks for the guide. Just wondering what kind of engineers would design a mechanism with a difficult access, my goodness.

Turn it counterclockwise. I know in the video he said clockwise but that won't work, also if your washer is stopped up have a shopvac and lots of towels on stand by because all that water is coming out the bottom. Thankyou for the video though, total life saver. I went in the front though because my drier is stacked on top of the washer.

Thank you for this video. I forgot to hit the "like" button so I came back.
Word of caution if anyone does this. If you have the pedestal, open the drawer and line the drawer with a dry towel and put a bucket into the drawer under the drain. I had a lot more water left in mine than he did and all I had was the towel.
Whirlpool! What were you thinking? A simple trap door would have been so easy but I will NEVER buy another whirlpool after this! I feel like this placement is designed to force the owner into a very unnecessary service call.
Thanks again for the video, you saved me a ton of work.

Wow, Thank you. I have been having a problem for a month. I watched one on going through the front but it was too complicated,. The only struggle was getting the drain off as I have bad wrist but was able to do it. I found 1.65 cents and saved around 200. I will never buy a front loader again.

My Landlord bought the set used and it gave me the drain error from the 2nd use. I watched this video and went from the back but instead of reaching to the front and untwisting the door I put a shallow pan under the hose, used pliers to remove the hose clamp and removed the hose. It drained into the shallow pan and I was able to clear a blockage (Panties, a 1''x1'' plastic square, shells, change, bottle cap, a ring and various other objects) - had I removed the trap from the front I would have missed the stuff in the black hose. Great Video! Thank you!

When I saw the clamp around the hose, I too wondered if that wouldn't be easier. I can hear water sloshing when I spin the drum after removing washed clothes. Last thing I want is a pool of smelly water to try and sop up from the floor/floor of the machine. Thank you for posting.

Can’t thank you enough for this video! Could not find one without the front access panel and of course, ours doesn’t have one. Worst design ever on Whirlpools behalf, our older duet had one, no idea why the newer models don’t. You answered all of my questions. Thanks again!

Island Shopgirl Yeah, when i discovered the earlier models had a front access panel, i couldnt understand why their engineers removed it from this model. i wash a lot of clothes and have a bad habit of not taking change out of my pocket. that trap gets cleaned every few months and is often the land of missing socks. Of course we dont realise these design quirks until long after the purchase!

TRAININGMISFIT - we were happy to discover they did change the position of the drain plug/trap on our newer model Duet Steam, it’s in the middle and facing the side instead of the front. I think ours is 2 yrs old. Still a pain having to remove the back but definitely easier than removing the front panel. Thanks again!

Great video, but over thinking it. Tip the washer back 20%, put something under it, take the four screws off the bottom front and pull. Plenty of room to access the trap.

Underrated comment here!! I had very little room to work with, and didn't want to mess with the front gasket spring or back panel. Tilted it back, popped open this bottom panel, and BOOM! Took me longer to clear out all the stuff that fell behind the washer than it did to do this task. Thanks Owen!!

On my model, the drain is in the middle of the machine facing to the right side (as viewed from the back). Was easy to reach, but needed some offset pliers to loosen it. Taking the back off is much preferred to messing with the front!

I took the entire black rubber assembly off my whirlpool and it was filled with lint. Also if you place a baking sheet under the front of the washer prior to removing the clean out it will catch the drain water.

I have done this exercise before and it worked beautifully but this time the drain filter was pretty clean and I still have some water sticking around... checked ALL drain pipes and they are clear. Any idea what it could be? spinning the drum with my hand I can hear the water and around the rim if I pull back the rubber, there is water. Thanks.

    • @stacystec
      @stacystec  4 роки тому

Be sure to check the inside of the pump for obstructions, after you pull out the trap stick your fingers in there and make there isn't anything jammed in there. You said you checked the drain hose so that would be the second thing to check. After that, power the unit back on and- the first thing the machine does when you set a cycle is it tries to pump out old water first. If you don't see that happening, then you know something else is going on. Assuming you cleared all obstructions, it might be safe to assume that the issue is with the pump (assuming everything else is functional). If you can't hear the pump doing anything, I'd recommend calling a repair person at that point. If you can hear the pump turning on and a little water is being pumped out into your drain/sink - then I'd recheck for blockages. It's also possible that the pump might be at it's EoL - still working but barley.

I know this is a super old video, but are you SURE the lower front panel below the door is not an access panel? Mine is at least 12 years old and there are 3 screws (1/4 in) under the panel that you need to remove . The panel will practically fall off once the screws are removed, and the trap is literally designed to be accessed that way. C’mon. Do you really think they would design the machine with a part that requires regular maintenance facing opposite your point of access? If it seems weird, you are probably doing it wrong.

    • @stacystec
