I have a very similar routine, but I figured out that if I do my exfoliation the first night, my tretinoin is more effective and I'm not treating dead skin cells. It made a decent difference, just swapping the order of my cycle to exfoliate, treat, and then 2 nights off (both with rose hip oil, because my skin loves it).
Girl you gotta look into Korean skincare. (Cleansers, Purito super fruit cleanser, Etude soonjung foam cleanser, Etude soonjung whip cleanser, Skin1004 centella foam cleanser, Heveblue black yuja bean milk cleanser). (Moisturizers, Dear Klairs midnight blue calming cream, Etude soonjung barrier intensive cream, Purito mighty bamboo Panthenol cream, Neogen high R exosome cream and there’s so many more that are good. After discovering Korean skin care that’s pretty much all I use now. Btw I have severely dehydrated sensitive dry skin and also have type 2 Rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. I know so many fun skin conditions to deal with 😂.
Same! My skin is super sensitive and prone to dryness and dehydration…and acne. I thought adapalene would be too drying, just because it’s an acne treatment. But I have tolerated it so incredibly well. I absolutely love it. My dermatologist has even given me the prescription strength (0.3% here in the US), which is really giving me some anti-aging benefits, although I can only tolerate it twice a week so far (with 0.1% the other nights).
Yeessss. I hate it because no matter how good I was at skin prep, my skin would be flaky by mid morning. It was extra frustrating because my skin looked great-totally moisturized and hydrated-until I put on foundation. So frustrating!
I still have dehydration but some things to experiment with might be layering, layering products with increasingly thick textures (something watery->thickened->gloopy) and then followed by a face oil instead of a moisturizer sometimes hits for me
Endorsing this recommendation! Very gentle and hydrating, and while the bottle is a little expensive for the drugstore, the bottle is huge so it’s a bargain if you look at it the cost per ounce. I’ve been using it for 2 months now and have barely made a dent in it.
Prequel are so good - the Gleanser, their various moisturizers, and their multi-quench serum. So hydrating, and all very nice for not irritating anything.
I adore the Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser (light blue cap). It's like a lotion and it removes makeup really well, also. Doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped.
I think there's a lot of confusion online about dehydrated skin vs dry skin. You can have dehydrated skin at any time alongside dry, oily or combo skin. My skin is chronically dehydrated when I'm oily and dry, I empathise with the struggle! If I didn't know better, after hearing about the products you use, I would've guessed you had oily or dry skin with no dehydration, so something must be working 😅 Here's some info that might help or might help anyone reading along ☺️ Dehydrated skin has trouble holding onto water and needs more humectants, while also needing occlusives to then seal all that hydration in. Dry skin has trouble producing enough oils within the skin and needs emollients and moisturising ingredients to fill in the "cracks" within the skin and smooth out the flakiness. The best, most gentle cleanser I've ever used is the Isntree Yam Root Cream Cleanser. It's so moisturising and just lovely. Unfortunately, the SkinFix moisturiser has no occlusives and is very much NOT suited for true dehydrated skin, unless you're using an occlusive moisturiser on top of it. I'm sure you also already know this, but that moisturiser also contains both a PHA and AHA, so maybe that's why you're not able to tolerate tret more often? The literature on Tretinoin actually shows that using a lower dose like 0.025-0.05% 3-4 times a week gives the same results as using a higher dose every night! Many people with dehydrated skin also can't tolerate much HA products or products with nano HA, because it's just not a good humectant. I'd highly recommend ditching dedicated HA products and switching to products with better humectants like glycerin, panthenol and urea. My recommendation with snail mucin is to use it after hydrating essences/toners and serums, but before creamy serums/emulsions and moisturisers. Using snail mucin after just a mist was torture on my dehydrated skin 😅 Luckily I've only ever had snail mucin pill when I haven't used enough humectants in my routine.
You raise so many good points. However (would you believe), dehydrated skin and dry skin are actually the same thing on a scientific level. Dr Dray talks about it from a medical standpoint in this video: ua-cam.com/video/AIhQPu3ZmPk/v-deo.htmlsi=tYSlzc5tUgldF7L5 I was very surprised too. The water (hydration) vs oil thing is a common myth! I hope people watch this video and share their thoughts because I was very intrigued.
So what top products do you recommend for someone with dehydrated skin? Toners and serums and all that? I’m almost 40 and am also trying to combat aging. My skin is a little oily in some areas and dry in certain other places but overall the skin is dehydrated and I never know how to balance all of that :/
It's so tough to figure out the right balance. The environment changes between seasons, our skin changes. Breaks are good. I use "recovery" products without actives when I need to get my skin barrier back in shape. The best recovery products contain glycerin, ceramides, cholesterol, linoleic acid, urea (or some of these at least). Dr. Idriss stresses consistency over quantity with actives. 3 x week is great for tretinoin if you can be consistent that way. Using actives too often can cause inflammation, which you want to avoid.
I love Dr. Dray...she's was so helpful with my skincare journey. I have to get back on it. Life has thrown some serious curveballs and I've neglected so many things 😢
thank you so much for this video! I think this is the first time that i find someone that has the same skin issues as me, has a very similar routine, love similar and the same products, and have the same ideas about patience and taking things slow. I often find that navigating the skincare space online is just overwhelming with my sensitive skin and all of it's issues, so seeing you advocate for slowness and patience, a minimal routine, and hydration is just perfection.
Your opinion means a lot to me in that even though I’m a woman of a “certain age”, I still break out and I still have very oily skin so thank you very much and merry Christmas🎄
Tip: you don't have to purchase lotions that say they are specifically for your face. Most can be used on face and body - but the face formulations tend to be lighter so they don't wear well under make up and might be too greasy for daytime. I also wouldn't use anything with fragrance in it. I use them only at night and they work great and MUCH more cost effective than moisturizers marketed as for your face. So I use cetaphil and eucerin with 5% urea. 1. winter moisturizer - cetaphil green tub "heavy moisturizer", personally find the niacinamide in cerave irritates my skin in winter on tretinoin; again this isn't marketed specifically for the face but is great for night time! 2. summer moisturizer, or sometimes I use it first as a tretinoin sandwich (moisturizer - tret - heavier moisturizer on top) if my skin is feeling dry - eucerin 5% urea (urea is extremely hydration at 5% concentration, >10% it is more exfoliating and would not use that on my face but is great for legs and feet) 3. HOLY GRAIL - La roche posay cicaplast B5 Baume - I use this every night on top of my moisturizer a small pea sized amount spread thinly over the face; cica is great for calming/soothing the skin, this has some moisturizing properties and is a wonderful occlusive to prevent evaporation of water from the skin - recommend you try this out as a last step to your routine after your moisturizer!! absolute game changer once I started tretinoin.
I've been drier than the Sahara my whole life. It takes several liquid moisturizers and serums, followed by 2 occlusives to keep me from looking like a raisin. I never had to worry about clogged pores at least.
The topicals "like butter" moisturizer is really occlusive and is meant to help support the moisture barrier. I've also switched to glycerin over hyaluronic acid for hydrating, I just feel like it's a much more effective ingredient - everything from experiment beauty works well for me and I have dehydrated but oily skin. definitely recommend their products also.
I also use benzoyl peroxide at 10% concentration to treat my rosacea, applying it three times a week. Salicylic acid doesn’t work for me; it just makes my skin incredibly sensitive. My weekly skincare routine includes vitamin C, azelaic acid, peptides, and retinol-sunscreen is also a must. Not one person who saw me before I started this routine has failed to notice the difference. They often say, "You look so young and healthy. Your skin looks amazing!"
The Lisa Eldridge cleanser is amazing. I will also use it once a week as a mask for 5-10 minutes. I'm drugstore to the core, but this is my favorite product. Many blessings!!💖💖💖 Merry Christmas!! 🎄⛄🎀
The Tatcha Indigo Overnight Repair Redness Reducing Barrier Cream was my replacement for Skinfix. It's stupid Tatcha prices, but you wake up in the morning and you can still feel the product on your face. It's not smeared into your pillowcase and it doesn't just sit on top- it sinks in and you wake up with juicy skin. I hate that I love it so much.
I have watched for longer than I can remember. I just noticed your follower count! 🥳 Congratulations! The authenticity here is always appreciated. On topic: sulfur > b peroxide IMO, and no ruined towels.
I grew up in New Hampshire where the sun is basically not seen for half the year and weaksauce the rest of the year, but after 25 years in SoCal, my number one regret is not slathering sunscreen on my neck, chest, and hands. Shortly after age 40, a bunch of brown spots popped out on my chest, and wow, it was downhilll aging so fast from there. I did protect my face because of my damn melasma, which is SOOOOOO sensitive to sun exposure that it taught me how effective sunscreens really are. My longtime HG Shiseido mineral SPF 50+ has gone out of stock, and I'm at a loss. Maybe it's time to try Haruharu.... According to my melasma, not all sunscreens are equally protective against photoaging/brown spots even when their SPF numbers are the same, so normally I test a new sunscreen on a less important area like forearms or ankles (especially after the Honest Beauty fiasco) before I will use it on my face.
14:15 miss miss!!! I just tried the la roche posay lipikar balm/ aka triple moisturizing cream on my face- and its just amazing, you have oily skin its fine, its really thick but it sinks in within a minute, and it doesnt feel like an occlusive at all but it just provides softness, so like all that thickness sinks in deep enough so that you dont feel it, same experience as la roche posay cicaplast balm, and this one you can find 200ml for 20 bucks I think, amazing, I honestly spent a year- more even, trying to find the perfect moisturizer, something that wont make me oily but soft, and this is it! I have combo skin so I have a feeling this would work too!
11:02 Have u tried the lipikar ap+ cleanser? One in a clear bottle and blue lid/pump. I like that it foams but feels clean after washing and doesn’t strip moisture out. Toleriane cleanser is too gentle for me.
I can only use salicylic acid; I cannot use benzoyl peroxide at all. Hyaluronic acid serum is a game changer for hydration; it works amazingly well with vitamin c. I had to scale back on retinol.
Salicylic acid is for oily skin. It’s not good for people for dry or dehydrated skin and hyaluronic acid is really only effective as an injectable. There’s much better products worth the money for people with dry/dehydrated skin
I just started tretinoin this week (wish me luck). I am on the cusp of mature skin, but I don't have any acne problems. Maybe three or four pimples a year that are hormonal, but nothing that is worth freaking out about. The tretinoin is about skin tone, texture, and collagen for me. I'm going to take it slow and not wreck my barrier. I am completely sold on azelaic acid, and I've been using it for about six months. That when I am definitely keeping in my routine, because it's the only thing I found that has finally kept my rosacea and redness at bay. I've heard multiple people say that if you can get on azelaic acid first, at prepares your skin to stand up to the tretinoin, so luckily I was already using that for redness. I use the 92 snail mucin also, but oddly enough I haven't found any pilling problems with it. For now that's all I am doing. I wanted to simplify my routine to give tretinoin a chance to get comfortable, and then in a couple months I will reassess again! Thank you for the moisturizer suggestions, that's where I still feel like I'm playing around and not sure yet!
My evening skincare routine Monday: Mens clinique concentrate serum -> dieux air angel -> kiehls avacado eye cream Retinol (altreno) Tuesday Dermalogica exfoliating powder -> dieux air angel -> Vaseline on entire face Repeat I have dry dehydrated skin Sunday no actives
My favorite gentle cream cleanser is the Aveeno oat cleanser ❤ If you don’t mind some foam, the Prequal Cleanser is my favorite nighttime cleaner. Super gentle and hydrating. Doesn’t smell as good as the Aveeno one though! (Both with no fragrance)
The Ordinary cleanser trio is worth a try for dehydrated skin. i love all of their cleanser formulations. If you get the trial pack, you can try them all and work out which one suits best, or rotate them depending on what your skin needs for the season or different levels of hydration. They are extremely affordable and really lovely.
I have been so helped by the rephr heavy duty moisturizer- it scared me because I thought it would be too full on and I would break out but it sinks in beautifully especially under makeup and my skin is way less dehydrated than it was. I cycle when I need to with actives but the rephr heavier moisturizer has soundly become a go to. Thank you again Alex for a great video and topic xx 💓🩷
Some cream cleansers you should look into are the Jordan Samuel Skin Matinee Cream Cleanser and the Sachi States of Skin Saponins Cream Cleanser. The Jordan Samuel cleanser is $32 for 4 Oz. The featured ingredients are Moisture-Rich Sesame Oil, Purifying Silt, and Allantoin, and the brand says it's best for Combination, Dry, Dehydrated, and Sensitive skin. The Sachi Skin cleanser is $44 for 4 Oz. The featured ingredients are Saponins, Proprietary Soothing Oil Blend, Ayurvedic Butterfly Pea, Kokum Butter, Glycerin, Quinoa Amino Acids, Prebiotics, and Panthenol. The brand says it's best for Vitamin A, AHA/BHA users, easily reactive, dry, and sensitized skins. If you want a cheaper option, The Ordinary has a Glycolipid Cream Cleanser that's $12.50 for 5 Oz. Lastly, if you want a fun powered cream cleanser, Build Skincare has something called B-Wash, which the brand describes as a gentle powder-to-cream facial cleanser that is $20 for 2.47 Oz. They are all so so so good!
Recommends 1. The man:nyo pure and deep cleansing foam produces a deep lather from a cream cleanser without stripping the skin 2. The dynasty cream from Beauty of Joseon is an incredible general moisturizer and absorbs well without feeling greasy.
Alex. I just love you so much. I know it’s totally extra, but I put the days of the week across the top of my mirror in black dry erase marker and colored dots in dry erase that match what I’m using so I do t get mixed up. It has helped so much. Also, have you ever tried the Pyungkang Yul essence? It has been a holy grail for years. I like it before the CosRx mucin. So very nice.
I've been feeling like I'm overdoing it with exfoliants but didn't know where to start stopping (lol). This is SO helpful! I just noticed peeling around my nose TODAY so this seriously perfect timing for me!
The Cetaphil gentle cleanser is inexpensive, gentle, fragrance-free, works great (I use micellar water on cotton pads to remove makeup beforehand) and doesn’t irritate or flake my dry skin.
I absolutely LOVE the Osea ocean cleanser purifying face wash. It’s $50/bottle, but the travel size bottle literally lasted me 3 months, and that’s like a quarter of the size of the full bottle. Absolutely love it.
I know its been almost a week so chances you won't see this but its worth a try because the Coats Gentle Hydrating Cleanser is 10/10 TOP TIER!! I have dehydrated, sensitiivveeeee, combo skin that genuinely hates being washed but the Coats cleanser has never done me dirty. I'm about to switch back to it after trying different cleansers for a bit because my skin never looked better than when using the Coats cleanser. It's about $22 from CVS in my area (MA) but it's also on Amazon for a bit cheaper. Another good gel cleanser is the Acwell licorice root no bubbles cleanser. It's super hydrating & gentle but effective in cleansing. The coats cleanser has ceramides in it and the Acwell one doesn't & I do tend prefer to use cleansers with ceramides.
I recommend IsNTree's dark blue hyaluronic acid toner & serum, the serum and toner are actually sold at jcpennys (where I first found them). The serum is called something like "hyaluronic water essence"; it's got oatmeal extract and like 8 different types of hyaluronic acid. Also has a bit of vitamin c derivative (as sodium ascorbyl hyaluronate). Love love love it. I used to use the toner, then their "Fresh" aloe gel, then the water essence, and it was so hydrating! Still use their toner and aloe gel, but I've switch to their bifida ampoule since it has peptides.
I fell in love with SkinFix moisturizer to combat Tret 0.1% dryness. Sephora has a gift set marked down to $41 that includes the "old" formula moisturizer but the cleanser is amazeballs! (The Barrier Bundle Hydrating and Plumping Trio) I think you'd like that cleanser, it protects the moisture barrier nicely. I actually tried samples of their oil cleanser and broke out promptly, ugh. Acne after 50 should be illegal. Best of luck
Merry christmas Alex♡ Big love from across the seas in SYRIA♡ Mom says hi♡ she loves you♡ I suffer from dehydrated skin too, i had the greasiest skin, but then was on isotretinoin and now i have extremely dry skin. I like ozonated creams for my skin it feels good and i don't break out on it. Great you figured out what is good for you♡ Your skin is glowing♡
Hi Alex! If you enjoy Dr Jart's Cicapair mask, you should absolutely try out the Cicapair cream, serum and toner! :) As a person who has spent too much and tried everything under the sun to heal my red and broken skin, this line is the ONLY thing that truly work and feels like a hug on the skin. You'll see and feel a drastic reduction in the irritation in your skin. Thanks for sharing your skincare favourites xx
So happy to hear this. Suggestion from 52 yr old… learn your blood hormone levels in blood on same day of menstrual cycle so when gets more dry because of estrogen loss… you will know the levels you need for hydrated skin and collagen production. ❤
I love the Paula's Choice hydrating cleanser (light blue bottle). It's not cheap, but it's not insane, and my skin loves it. It cleans out my pores and makes them less noticeable while not stripping my skin at all. I can literally see the difference just when I dry my face after using it.
As you had requested, I use Cerave brand developed by dermatologists. I recommend the Cerave cleanser…very gentle, removes makeup and doesn’t strip the skin barrier. The daytime moisturizer is light, just OK. The body cream in a tub is good for the body and, on occasion, on the face…..creamy but not oily. You might be able to get travel size to try it out.
Switching to doing actives in the evening has been a game changer for me too! My skin needs actives every night though despite its protests or I will break out 🙄 avene used to make the best cleansing milk that was sooo gentle as well as a pre reformulation skin recovery cream that was my go to when I first started tret but skin care companies love discontinuing/reformulating the best products. It’s not a cream but more of a jelly but vanicream gentle cleanser is the bestttt so good for sensitive compromised skin and it’s been my cleanser since avene discontinued their milky cleanser
I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Velvet Cleansing Milk by Stratia or the Gleanser by Prequel these are the only 2 products I've ever used that do no strip my face at all after using them. The best barrier / ceramide moisturizer I've used for night use is def Instant Angel by Dieux I've never had anything ever soothe and actually fix my dehydrated skin so effectively.
The Garnier Hydrating Cleanser is very soothing. It has glycerin and it feels so good, never stings and leaves my dry and acne prone skin happy. I never tried the Prequel Gleanser but it sounds similar yet the Garnier one is a lot cheaper.
I love the Haru Haru Black Rice sunscreen formula but I discovered the skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sica Sun Serum. It’s SPF 50+ PA++++. It’s very lightweight and I can use it over my daily moisturizer, which is the Vanicream daily facial moisturizer. The Har Haru sunscreen can sometimes be too heavy. Thank you for this video btw. I have been trying to adjust to more than three nights a week of .05 Tretinoin for about a year, and I just can’t seem to do it. I appreciate you sharing your story, because perhaps this is just the most I’m going to be able to do and I should quit trying to push it too much because then I really dry out my skin.
Loved the video- I read a few cases about the BOJ sunscreen not being effective against melasma, or melasma becoming worse after prolonged use, so I'm a little wary of the effectiveness. Also, I heard amazing things about the Isntree Yam Root cream cleanser. Its pretty affordable as well and their products work amazing on my skin, specifically the mugwort clay mask that absorbs my excess sebum yet somehow soothes my irritation. I'm also prone to congestion but cant handle leave on treatments (they worsen my texture) I resorted to using my leave on actives as a 5-10 minute mask vs. purchasing a cleanser which i found to be a little stripping.
Thank you for this info about dehydrated skin! I love your approach to skin and makeup and how you explain things. Also, can you please tell me where your earrings are from? They're beautiful!❤
Slightly off topic but I want to thank you very much for the recommendation of the Derma B Urea 9.8 lotion. My feet feel soooo much better because of you! Such a simple and inexpensive recommendation making a big difference Thank you again. I'm on my second tube!
Hi Alex, not sure you can get this in the states, but Canadian-based Riversol daily moisture concentrate is absolutely amazing! It’s by a dermatologist in Vancouver. I highly recommend it to replace your Skinfix.
I get so so dry specifically around my mouth and chin and recently switched the The Ordinary Glycolipid Cleanser (kind of a weird almost smell but I'm into to) and then alternate moisturizers between the Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides which is SUPER oily and thick and I love as a night cream or the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream which is definitely more water based and absorbs completely (learned about this one from Kackie!)
I love the Glow Recipe Avocado cleanser. It's the only thing I buy from them but I love it. So gentle. Fragrance free. Lasts me forever and reasonably priced.
Although I haven't used it myself, I've heard many other dry-skinned influencers rave about Prequel's "Gleanser" which is like 50% glycerin. Apparently a big pump bottle is very reasonably priced. Prequel is Dr, Sam Ellis' (dermatolgist) own brand. Hope this helps..
Hey Alex!! I loved how in depth you went in this video and I really want to take better care of my skin too, I just don’t know where to start! You know how you do your beginners’ blending eyeshadow tutorials where you just focus on that one thing and explain every little detail, I was thinking it would be super useful for a beginner like me if could you do the same with like a beginners guide to skincare, how to find out about ingredients for your skin, active stuff, moisturisers etc. maybe including some common irritants and how to tell if something is working for you. Perhaps strategies of building a routine from absolute zero (I currently only use a La Roche Posay cleanser, a No7 moisturiser and a skin scrub every other week or so). It would be super duper useful!! Sending you lots and lots of love, Bori ❤️
I’ve been enjoying the DamDam Mochi Mochi Luminous plumping and hydrating moisturizer. I purchased it at Sephora. I have sensitive dry and dehydrated skin. I haven’t tried any of the other products by DamDam but I noticed they have a kit of trial sizes. Another moisturizer that you might want to try (if you haven’t already) is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream with Colloidal Oatmeal in the OG formula without added fragrance. I loved the Skinfix original cream. I am ok with the new formula but I have to be careful whenever a product contains niacinamide. Most people love the ingredient but my skin will tolerate only a small amount of niacinamide. Thank you very much for this video.
Merry Christmas Alex! I hope you have the best one yet! Thank you for this upload because I dehydrated my skin to when I started getting into makeup and realized that the reason it didn't look good was because I was not doing any skin care
Oh, I’m so looking forward to watching! I just realized that the reason makeup looks horrible on my skin is because it’s dehydrated 🙄 🙄🙄My experience has been that my skin will look great in terms of moisture, but then the moment I put on foundation, I end up looking crusty and awful. The thing that helped me was the 7 skin method.
Love the skin cycling. I skip the benzoyl peroxide on my face but otherwise our routines have the same steps. In terms of occlusive moisturizers, Ceremedx Ultra Moisturizing Cream is fantastic. I also like CereVe Moisturizing cream and Vanicream Moisturizing Cream.
I really love the new formula of the skinfx cream. I compared the 2 different formulas on a stubborn dry area, it has impressed me with it's healing power!!!❤❤❤
Highly recommend Kelly Driscoll's channel for product recommendations, esp. when it comes to strengthening your skin barrier/pairing products with actives! For cleansers - Prequel's gleanser and Haruharu soft cleansing gels. Both are gels vs creams, but super gentle
The Aveeno calm & restore nourishing oat cleanser is great. I use it as my second cleanse in the evenings after the Purito from green cleansing oil. My go-to moisturizer is the La Roche Posay lipikar triple repair cream. I use it day and night but it's thick and may be too much for others daytime use. My dry skin loves it and it works well under spf and makeup.
from fellow dry skin my fave extremely gentle cleanser is the Aveeno calm and restore cleanser (its non foaming gel) if ur not allergic to oats its really great imo 😊 also u can buy refill packs which makes it incredibly affordable
I've also gotten into Korean skincare for my hormonal acne as any barrier cream clogs my pores and Tretanoin just wasn't working for me. I double cleanse now with a LIGHT oil cleanser (Anua Heartleaf or Beauy of Joseon Ginseng) and then a cream cleanser - I use Anua Heartleaf Quercetinol pore deep cleansing foam - it lathers up into a thick mask type consistency and makes your skin feel so clean but not dry. It's been one of the best for me.
To replace the skin fix, try bliss might biome barrier creme! It’s so moisturizing and just amazing! You will not regret it. Also affordable. Their vitamin C face lotion is also amazing for a lighter weight but still moisturizing version with an active (both are in a squeeze “tin”).
Thank you so much for this video! I am in exactly the same boat with my dehydrated skin, and I essentially have all of the same products but I just need to structure how/when I use them. I really like the cadence you have developed for your routine. As far as gentle cleansers go, I really recommend the Vanicream facial cleanser. It’s only about $9 and I find it to be very effective and gentle. I used to use the Avene Cleanance Hydra cleanser for years, but it got to be too drying for me. I now use the Vanicream and Kiehl’s ultra face cleanser interchangeably with good effects.
Oil cleanse has been a game changer for me. Plain old organic grapeseed oil, then Avene Xera Calm Lipid Replenishing Oil (it's actually a thick gel). Cuts through all the SPF and makeup without drying out skin.
I have EXTREMELY dehydrated skin and one of my favorite most gentle yet effective one and done cleansers of all time is the isntree yam root vegan milk cleanser and it just so happens to be a cream cleanser. Also I know you didn’t ask for one but there’s and amazing exfoliating cleanser that’s insanely gentle it’s the haruharu wonder black rice triple aha cleansing gel. It’s been a godsend while I also am skin cycling ❤
Rosehip oil is so beneficial for so many skin related issues. I love it.
Yessss my skin loves rosehip oil!!!
"Why did you guys change the formula?" That is an excellent question, beautiful Alexandra! The manufacturers tend to screw up their greatest products!
Loving the UA-cam award in your background. You should be so proud & it's a testament to your content ❤
Yup! I have dry dehydrated skin and live on snail much Korean skin care soon Jung barrier cream in the jar
For the acne prone people that can't tolerate tret. Try differin gel! After many years or sensitive skin and acne this was a gamechanger for me 🎉
Same! My skin is super sensitive and prone to dryness and dehydration…and acne. I thought adapalene would be too drying, just because it’s an acne treatment. But I have tolerated it so incredibly well. I absolutely love it. My dermatologist has even given me the prescription strength (0.3% here in the US), which is really giving me some anti-aging benefits, although I can only tolerate it twice a week so far (with 0.1% the other nights).
yes, I used tret .05 or so for like 18 months and it never treated my acne.... differin does
It dries out my skin yet doesn't do much to active zits :(
Mine is the other way round. Tret has no purging and flaking in me while adapalene gave me purge and irritation
@@Aristaifly I always use and hydrating toner, serum and then the differin + thick cream on top. Hope it can work like this for you
I clicked this so fast - my skin will be nice and moisturized in the morning and at night after skincare but at the end of the day it is flaking off
Same
Yeessss. I hate it because no matter how good I was at skin prep, my skin would be flaky by mid morning. It was extra frustrating because my skin looked great-totally moisturized and hydrated-until I put on foundation. So frustrating!
Try using something with more emollients on top in a thin layer.
I still have dehydration but some things to experiment with might be layering, layering products with increasingly thick textures (something watery->thickened->gloopy) and then followed by a face oil instead of a moisturizer sometimes hits for me
Omg same and I can be sooooo glazed donut and wet and then flaky in 4 hours ? Like how?!!! And then acne prone ? Like torture
The Prequel Gleanser is an excellent hydrating cleanser. And they recently started selling in Target!
I was going to suggest the same!! It's fantastic!
you know your stuff!
I recommended this, too! Lol.
I adore the Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser (light blue cap). It's like a lotion and it removes makeup really well, also. Doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped.
I was coming here to say this, too. It’s the ugliest packaging so every so often I try something new… and regret it.
@a.v.sheridan9791 yes, the packaging lacks pizzazz, but it gets the job done 🤣
It’s my holy grail!!
That's the only cleanser I can use when I'm having really bad eczema flareups! I always keep it on hand.
I think there's a lot of confusion online about dehydrated skin vs dry skin. You can have dehydrated skin at any time alongside dry, oily or combo skin. My skin is chronically dehydrated when I'm oily and dry, I empathise with the struggle!
If I didn't know better, after hearing about the products you use, I would've guessed you had oily or dry skin with no dehydration, so something must be working 😅
Here's some info that might help or might help anyone reading along ☺️
Dehydrated skin has trouble holding onto water and needs more humectants, while also needing occlusives to then seal all that hydration in.
Using snail mucin after just a mist was torture on my dehydrated skin 😅
Luckily I've only ever had snail mucin pill when I haven't used enough humectants in my routine.
You raise so many good points. However (would you believe), dehydrated skin and dry skin are actually the same thing on a scientific level. Dr Dray talks about it from a medical standpoint in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/AIhQPu3ZmPk/v-deo.htmlsi=tYSlzc5tUgldF7L5
I was very surprised too.
2. summer moisturizer, or sometimes I use it first as a tretinoin sandwich (moisturizer - tret - heavier moisturizer on top) if my skin is feeling dry - eucerin 5% urea (urea is extremely hydration at 5% concentration, >10% it is more exfoliating and would not use that on my face but is great for legs and feet)
GIRL you DONT MISSSS!!!! This has been my recent insecurity 😭 tysm
I've been drier than the Sahara my whole life. It takes several liquid moisturizers and serums, followed by 2 occlusives to keep me from looking like a raisin.
I never had to worry about clogged pores at least.
I’ve been loving the Prequel Gleanser for hydration
What occlusives do you use , I need one bad
@@brooklin_bernek first layer is honey halo and at night and really cold winter days, I do a thin layer of warmed Vaseline on top of that.
Salicylic acid is very drying. It’s really only good for people with oily skin, if it’s the base of the product.
@cady__ my skin is oily. Unfortunately, it only did damage, even in tiny concentrations 😞. I wish it worked
@ awe darn! I’m so sorry
I haven’t watched yet but THANK YOU ALEX I HAVE BEEN PATIENTLY WAITING!!
I would LOVE to see a video on dermaplaning! Have been wanting to try it for a while now.
Same. As an esthetician, I still can’t dermaplane without breaking out. It’s embarrassing.
Doctorly is another great channel for Derm advice
I start tret this week too! Good luck to us ❤
My evening skincare routine
Monday:
Mens clinique concentrate serum -> dieux air angel -> kiehls avacado eye cream
Retinol (altreno)
Tuesday
Dermalogica exfoliating powder
-> dieux air angel -> Vaseline on entire face
Repeat
I have dry dehydrated skin
Sunday no actives
Hi,
I also recommend Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, it is great to remove all make-up around the eyes too☺️
Thanks for sharing your routine with us❤️
Your skin has been looking so good lately!!! It's glowing!!!
Ooooooo.... I love rephr.. I might give this a go!
The Cocokind Oil to Milk Face Wash is so nice for dehydrated skin. And I also recommend Cocokind Ceramide Barrier Serum too!
Have you tried the vanicream gentle facial cleanser? I’m not sure how it compares to the ones you mentioned but I love it and it’s pretty affordable
I second this!
Recommends 1. The man:nyo pure and deep cleansing foam produces a deep lather from a cream cleanser without stripping the skin 2. The dynasty cream from Beauty of Joseon is an incredible general moisturizer and absorbs well without feeling greasy.
So happy to see you today! Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎅🎅
Dr Jarts are typically atleast half off at TJ Maxx. 7.99 for 5
I have a bunch. ❤
This sensitive dry girl adores Avene...been a decade plus now. Your skin looks incredible! Merry Christmas 💖✨🙏
The restorative cream has transformed my skin. Can't be without it now.
Yes to Avene!! Love their Retrinal, it's not irritating. 💖
This video is so helpful! I’ve been struggling with dehydrated skin for years. Thank you for sharing!
I love the Lisa Eldridge cleanser, it's 'spensive but so good. I also use her mist before the COS Rx snail mucin. This is so helpful, perfect timing!
I do have the same rotation routine, except I use glycolic acid as a tone. Off days from actives was the game changer ❤
Merry christmas Alex♡
Big love from across the seas in SYRIA♡
Mom says hi♡ she loves you♡
I suffer from dehydrated skin too, i had the greasiest skin, but then was on isotretinoin and now i have extremely dry skin.
I like ozonated creams for my skin it feels good and i don't break out on it.
Great you figured out what is good for you♡
Your skin is glowing♡
Have you tried Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cleanser. It’s beautiful on my dehydrated skin
I really love the Real Barrier Cream Cleanser. It’s so gentle and not too expensive.
What brand do you use?
Thank you Alex for this really good info on skincare. Happy New Year, can’t Waite for more great videos!❤🎉😊
Happy Christmas Eve, Alex!💖🎄
The cetaphil cream cleanser is very nice and affordable, also la roche posay toleraine face cream has helped me A LOT with my dry winter skin:)
ALSO A HUMIDIFIER IN YOUR BEDROOM HAS BEEN SO HELPFUL
I really like the Inkey List polyglutamic acid, too. Traps more moisture in than hyaluronic acid! Also makes a great primer.
Have you tried the prequel cleanser? It’s the best and so hydrating!!
Kiehl’s makes a barrier repair cream , it comes in a tube. It’s thick and soothing . I love it
The Garnier Hydrating Cleanser is very soothing.
Paula’s Choice Calm Ultra gentle cleanser and the Calm soothing serum in the same line are both very good.
Yay! So glad you love it! It was such a game changer for me ❤️
Hi Alex, not sure you can get this in the states, but Canadian-based Riversol daily moisture concentrate is absolutely amazing! It’s by a dermatologist in Vancouver. I highly recommend it to replace your Skinfix.
we are soul sisters. i cycle similarly, though i cut out the retinol (differin). paula’s choice new barrier cream is nice!
Try the serum from the same line - it makes a big difference for me and I always keep a backup!
The brand called face reality also has a glycerin based cleanser that is so good an ultra Ultra Gentle not drying
Sending you lots and lots of love,
Bori ❤️
I recommend the Aestura 365 Atobarrier Cream. I loved the OG skinfix but the Aestura is even better!
I completely agree and was going to suggest the same!!
La Roche posay dermallego cream is a hero moisturizer. Gentle, no frills and very moisturizing
Honestly this helps so much!! Love you and your videos❤️
Dr Ceuracle cleansers and oils have been the absolute best for my thin, sensitive and dry skin. ❤️
I really like the only oat cleansing balm from the Inkly as a creamy moisturizer cleaners
Recently, I added the glossier future dew as my last step before makeup and my skin has been staying moisturized longer.
The "nothing" days are truly what the skin needs and appreciates. I have nothing days as well, and my skin too reacts very well to the off days.
from fellow dry skin my fave extremely gentle cleanser is the Aveeno calm and restore cleanser (its non foaming gel) if ur not allergic to oats its really great imo 😊 also u can buy refill packs which makes it incredibly affordable
Ooh the Isntree Yam Root Milk Cleanser might be up your alley. Super thick and nourishing aaand affordable
To replace the skin fix, try bliss might biome barrier creme! It’s so moisturizing and just amazing! You will not regret it. Also affordable. Their vitamin C face lotion is also amazing for a lighter weight but still moisturizing version with an active (both are in a squeeze “tin”).
Olive young is where it’s at for all Korean skin care! If you want hydrated glass skin, check them out, all the brands I’ve tried I love.
