  • Editor’s note: This video was filmed prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you simply enjoy the solitude of fishing by yourself or you’re unable to coordinate schedules with your fishing buddy, there will be times when you’ll need to launch a boat by yourself. Although it may seem a bit daunting your first few times, you’ll quickly develop an efficient system that’ll help you get into the water with no trouble whatsoever.
    Wired2fish Managing Editor Walker Smith fishes by himself a lot during the workweek, which of course, means he launches his bass boat solo the large majority of the time. With lots repetition and practice, he’s able to launch his boat in just a matter of seconds. Walker meticulously walks us through his launching system and explains each and every step of his preferred method. He also spends some time explaining important safety considerations that will keep you out of harm’s way in case of an unlikely emergency.

    I use a 50 ft 1/2 diameter nylon rope with snap hooks on each end, one for the boat and one for the trailer latch, coil the rope in the bed of the truck and back up until the boat floats off the trailer. put the truck in park and use the trailer end of the rope to pull your boat to the pier or launch area, no problems for me

    • @Altered76
      @Altered76 4 роки тому +3

      Same here using a 50' nylon rope loosely laid in the bed of my truck. I just give a very slight push with the truck right as the boat lifts off the trailer. This carries it past the trailer. By this time I have already set the E brake and stepped out of the truck. I stuff the one end of the rope in the stake pocket right by the cab so its easy to get the rope as soon as I step out. I pull the boat to the side and tie off and go park the truck. My lake doesn't have any piers or docks for all that fancy tying off. 🙁

      @rigorocks23 2 роки тому +1

      I've been doing it that way too.I went to a tight ramp the other day and my boat floated away from me close to the other guys boat because my rope knotted up and got stuck in the tailgate. I'll be doing this method for those situations where you have zero room for error

    • @arciefan
      @arciefan Рік тому +1

      Pretty much same here but my rope is only about 35' long and I coil it on the front deck of the boat where nothing can obstruct it uncoiling. Same otherwise, one end to the bow hook on the boat, and other end on the winch mount for the winch, and definitely yes, both ends hand snap hooks. You have to not get complacent as I have before and make sure you have both ends of the rope hooked up. Out of hundreds of times, I have forgot maybe 5 times and the boat goes floating out in the lake and you have to hope you have a favorable wind to blow it back or there is a boat nearby you can borrow . So far I've had to borrow a boat twice lol. Still it's a great method as it eliminates having to get in the boat and start it up and park it before you can get your trailer out of the water. I'll take it over this method for me, but this one is fine also.

  • @TheJeffro941

    Prep boat, back boat partially into water, carefully unhook strap and safety chain, connect 20' dock rope to bow cleat closet to docking side, tie other end of rope to dock cleat or piling farthest possible from rear of boat (making sure to clear any obstructions that could snag rope when releasing from trailer), return to truck and slowly back boat in while observing your surroundings, once boat is free and drifting freely backwards, with break depressed, put truck in neutral, depress parking break, let off primary break slowly ,and put truck in park, go back and grab your boat dockline and pull your boat far enough out of the way to allow other boats to load, secure boat to dock, and park your truck. Practice will make you more efficient and comfortable. Enjoy and happy fishing 👍🏼💯🇺🇸🎣🤙🏼🍺

    Hi sir.
    I like your system. I'll give it a shot.
    I've always used and old rope with knots tied on it at the end.
    I take the knotted end away from the boat and shove it down inside the tailgate and truck till its snug.
    The old rope is permanently tied off to the boat so the boat drifts back just enough to float. I remove my rope from truck.
    I then step on the tongue and climb into the boat.
    Then push the boats passed my trailer guides.

    If the ramp is very steep you wouldn’t want to slack that winch strap or the boat will slide off on to the concrete. In those cases you can tie a rope from the boat to your bumper and release the strap once your boat is clear of the ramp

    I'm still baffled as to why Americans don't use the park brake. ALSO if your car "popped out of gear" you could just apply the brakes... The only way your car will roll down a ramp on its own is due to user error. The chances of gearbox giving way and brakes failing at the same time are pretty much nil.
