    And the amazing Bob returns! Incredible pipeline tool. Kudos! I've been watching your videos one by one and it's been very helpful mainly cos it's the first time I see someone talking about Blender for VFX. This software will be a huge deal in 3 to 5 years and I'm happy to work with it. Cheers.

      @hjf4a2 soooo, why are you here? Anyway I know houdini is way better than blender in vfx but most blender users are from small studios. Well there are few films studios in the world and they can only gives few jobs. So mark my words blender and unreal engine will rule in the 3d industry.

    What improvements do you think Blender's compositor needs to make it more efficient for a vfx pipeline?
    I've also heard great things about Divinci's Resolve's compositor which is free but not os. If you made a video reviewing/trying that out I bet it would get some good attention.
    Then quality of your videos and their information has been consistently great. Keep it up!

    • @SteveWarner
      @SteveWarner 3 роки тому +7

      Real VFX artists will never use Blender's compositor for the same reason that a race car driver doesn't use a bicycle if he wants to win the race. Blender's compositor is extremely powerful. But it's extremely slow. It doesn't auto cache. It can't play back the comp in anything close to real time. A change to any node causes the whole node tree to recalculate, which is painful. The process of adding masks isn't intuitive (although it's fine once you get used to it). That said, it's easy to use, has all the core features you'd want for basic VFX work, and is tightly integrated into Blender's overall pipeline. I just finished shots for a film and did them in Blender's compositor. I personally love working in it. You have to get used to grouping nodes and then disabling what you're not working on. That speeds things up tremendously. But for professionals who do this day in and out, it comes down to speed and familiarity. Just like Maya, Nuke is the industry standard, so even something like Natron, which functions exactly like Nuke, or Fusion, which was used on numerous feature films, is looked down on by Nuke artists.

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  3 роки тому +6

      Yeah, totally agree with you on this one. Natron still has a long way to go to get all the features in Nuke (never gonna happened, no more development). Natron in some cases is actually faster than Nuke! Blender also doesn't have any painting tools in comp.

      I was working on updating an nice bl2.79 addon called save renderlayers, when I bumped into some else's work. That addon is called renderlayers manager.i made some suggestions so it would work a bit more interactive. It sets up all the outputs automatically and you can more easily switch cure layers. It's a super nice addon if you need to work with external apps. But it can also work really great when you need to work with the compositor

    All the system is hardcoded, I got this, but only the layer...inspector (just to give it a name) would be internal to blender. If you/fake is ok with it going open, I guess nothing's stopping "you" from doing a pull request just for that feature. It would be awesome actually. Also from a "public relations" point of view now that I think about it.👍

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  3 роки тому +1

      It's all a question of $. Cycles is free so you can put it on a render farm with as many renderers as needed and it won't cost you a penny. If you have 100 machines on the farm, @ 600$ per license, it just cost you 600k... plus maintenance every year. And Octane is GPU only so you are limited by the amount of vram you have on your graphic card.

    Hey blender bob, if I want to do hard surface modeling in Film vfx, (I'm a long term Maya user), do I have to stick to Maya or can I use Blender?

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  3 роки тому +2

      It will be much easier to find a job as a Maya user because this is what's used in the VFX world. Then again, companies like ILM or Method will let you use Blender if you want to. Modeling is modeling and that's the easier thing that can convert from one software to another. Personally, I think the Blender toolset is much better than Maya's for modeling. So if you also master Blender, when looking for a job, you could say you know Maya but if it's ok with them, you ask if they would allow you to use Blender. It's free, ni licensing issues, so I don't wee what they would say no.

      Of course, I realize this might not be sufficient even for a Junior level-position, and since I have interviewed candidates to be employed before, I understand it's absurd to apply if I have very little to show for it, as it wouldn't even indicate the skills a company may need, let alone confidence in the candidate in question. But since I've no experience in the VFX field, I wanted to know if you guys have a place for a 3D generalist with a touch of mo-graph skills, or what you guys might be looking for at a Junior level.
