It was really awesome to see another update to this, The No$PSX ROM replacement is also great but can only be flashed on a handful of AR/GS carts out there.
Glad things like this are still being continued. Back when the PS1 was still current, I had a ton of official/thirdparty/bootleg Action replay type devices. Some of them you were able to completely flash over with software from another (and that had to be back on win 98). Its fuzzy at this point but I do recall one allowing you to play cdr and imports without doing any disc swapping. Not sure if I still have that device, but it was along the lines of what you are showing here. Now I might look into this, just for the sake of doing it
Would be cool to see if you can track that down! A lot of people try to cite Goldfinger or others as the end all be all, but they still rely on the spring or swap trick.
@@MrMario2011 Hmmm I def had goldfinger (or something like it). I never throw anything out (mostly). Where all that stuf is now it would be a big mess to get to-- but I may make an attempt this weekend
Thank you so much for this video. None of my games worked right on the old version. Some games didn't boot at all, crashed, had no sound didn't let me load my saves. So far it's perfect!
MrMario2011 Revelations Persona, Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, MGS1, FF7, Gran Turismo 1, GTA 1, Tenchu and a few others. The only game that worked for me before this update was Spongebob SuperSponge lmao. Everything is 100% perfect now, for what I have
MrMario2011 Innocent Sin scared the hell out of me cuz it kept crashing when trying to load a save. I thought it was something with my memory card at first
Great video, was able to get this setup and flash my old cartridge. After doing this process I still ran into the issue with my original DDR3rdmix throwing the PS1 has been modified error. Will need to investigate how to patch out the security checks and just create a backup disc.
I'm thinking what to buy between this or PSIO... if it's better to preserve my backups in SD cards whithout wear away my ps1 laser but installing the switch board with my barely soldering skills, or buying a pre-moded cartridge with unirom in order to play my imports...
I know this a year old but figured it’s worth a shot, do you need to do the swap method to boot for install OR can you use the game shark spin down technique?
I am still wondering if there is a exploit possible trough the Memcard (that is probely 1st of second in the boot chain) so we can use modified Memcards with SD options. Just playing with toughts, i am not a programmer/hacker. But food for tought.
I wanted to ask you , with the newer update , do you notice if this newer version Loads and boots faster or is it slower. I want to update and get off that annoying original unirom menu, but I'm waiting to find out if the updated ver runs faster , slower or the same .
Does this unirom update have better compatibility with cheat carts? I have I've tried a few different versions of unirom that failed to identify the chip on the cart I have. It looks like a legit cart but I read that there are plenty of authentic looking Chinese knockoffs.
Hi I have a problem which I hope that you can help me with. I have a PS1 model number scph 5552 pal and it works flawlessly and if I install my blaze Xplorer FX cheat cartridge into the parallel I/o port it boots up and lets me select cheats and starts my pal final fantasy 7 no problem with cheats activated. But it will not work at all ever with final fantasy 8 or final fantasy 9 it just gets to a black screen. I can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong the console works 100% the cartridge works 100% eg with final fantasy 7 but ff8 and ff9 will not boot with the cheat cartridge installed but they boot without it. The console is pal and the games are pal and the cartridge is pal ??????
is there any sense of making that on my cardrige when i already have modchip? I mean is that UniROM can boot more games than modchip because in many situtations my backup games dont bootup [ CD spinning and spinning and console cant catch it and boot , maybe because of Verbatim CD-R.I hear JVC Taiyo Juden are the best ] and i think if there is any reason to make that uniROM .
I did try unirom before and I ran into a problem. My problem was that when I tried to load/save, the game would freeze. Now the game I tried it with was megaman x4. I am wondering if anyone ran into that problem?

Hey, Josh! Still got the No$PSX. Its interesting to me to see UniROM get an update, tho.

Nice! I use a goldfinger and a modchip but I've been debating moving over to a unirom cart
Best to stick with what you have, in my opinion.
Awesome video mr mario!
perhaps for a next video; dive into all of the options and why one would update

The new version works very well. Discs that wouldn't read reliably on the old version, now work great!
Glad to hear!

Thanks for the help bro. The disk swap was pretty difficult to execute.
No problem 👍
For old japanese playstation you must use the swap method
Strange...
thanks a lot this is what I was locking for!

PSIO with modchip. PSIO still has some issues, so you can revert back to a disc for those problematic titles.
XStation is the best option.
I feel like you broke into my house and stole my psx. I have that same lid sticker on my PSX, that my dad has in his basement.
Maybe your dad secretly sold it? Might want to check on that 😂

Read speed. I still burn games for my chipped slim PS1.
What could be a reason to update Unirom from version 0.44? What is new that I can't live without?
Hi,
Is Game Shark Pro V3.0 compatible with this method?
Thanks!
Does this version let you input gameshark codes?

I tried using the method that was on your previous video with a gameshark that I got off ebay but unirom doesn't recognize the eeprom.
Got something to ask mario? How do you change disks in muiti disk games?
Looks like commodore Basic
Probably what they were going for! 😁
What does the switch do?
Is it possible to swap disks at the end of the game (of multi disk games) where it doesn’t let you save before swapping?
How do you play muiti disk games? Like were it asks to change disk

Windows has a built in image burner, does that not work for PS1 stuff?
use IMGBURN. works for me
Cool
Can you not load the update on a sd memory card instead of a disc
You need to run it as an application.
I bought a unirom memory card from ebay do I still need a boot up disk? Does this update increase the cheat library code menu on your cheat cartridge?
Man I think most of the viewers don't even have ps1, haha
You'd be surprised, my original UniROM video has nearly 300K views.

Just get the original Hardware, XStation, and a Sony PVM or BVM CRT, as well as HDRetrovision component cables.
