Me at the Title: "Eh, I'm not really into strategy."
Splat: "One of the best Might & Magic contenders."
Me: "Go on... I'm listening."
Its not great. They limit your unit stacks so combat is boring and repetitive.
@@rekrn12345how did they limit the stack? It has many unit slots from the video
@@Jinkypigs Like if you take zombie you can only have like 20 zombies and that is it. Its pretty dumb overall.
@@rekrn12345 I suspect the devs had their reasons. Likely something to do w/combat balancing of some sort. 🤔
@@rekrn12345 I don't remember that, but I did feel like it got boring fast. I was quite disappointed, but I also played quite early on in their release.
Game is 66% off right now, pretty massive discount. I've held off on playing more until 1.0 hits but will be jumping back in after that, it definitely has a lot of love put into it.
50% on GOG if you want it DRM free.
@@spawn101 Is the Steam version possibly DRM free? I've noticed a lot of indie games are DRM free on Steam.
@@baconcow You're probably right, I just found out that multiplayer doesn't go through Steam servers so "Nice job developers!" (to be clear my first comment got deleted by UA-cam what I actually wanted to say is that you can have an offline installer and really "own" the game.) *lets see if this gets deleted again...*
This game is absolutely a spiritual successor to Might and Might. It definitely scratches the itch. Worth buying, even in Early Access.
Agreed. I feel bad about having slept on SoC for so long, but I pulled the trigger last year; three months later, I have an embarrassing amount of hours put into it. XD
Interesting that you happened to cover this game now! Had it on my wishlist for a while and picked it up a few days ago at a discount.
Lovely game! Looks and plays beautifully! It's clearly a labor of love.
Its obviously been a while but I'm still glad that you changed your first minutes into each video. Giving some overview what a game is about before that "if it's something to add to you wishlist" monologue
I love this game. Thank you for covering it. The HOMM3 feels are real.
That game seriously ruined a whole generation of gamers by being the gold standard for 25 years that just wasn't met again.
HOMM3 sits in this weird space for me of simultaneously being the best yet after playing later games feeling too outdated to play again.
I've played this game a bit, I enjoyed my time with it, wasn't the right time for me to get in depth with it and I've kind of been waiting for the next content patch.
I always go back to HOMM3. Love the game, it's a classic. Gonna be hard to top it
Been supporting this for ages and your right, this game is unbelievable. I get so drawn into the story and it's characters, great story telling. The game play is top notch. This game drips with love.
Interesting to see the difference approaches and mindsets in some of these new games going on the HOMM style. Like, this and Hero's Hour both take that style and run it in completely different directions. This is gritty and focused on strategy and so on, Hero's Hour is more about the joy of seeing your massive swarms of weird random stuff you collected around the map just sweep enemies, lol.
I’m on board with any Heroes type game.
You covered this a whole ago. Thanks for bringing it back. I’ll probably pick this up at some point.
the art in this game is amazing, best pixel art ive seen. great attention to detail
Picked this up awhile ago. It was a no brainer. Gorgeous.
Since the last update ive given this game a true chance on the Steam Deck (runs great). I bought the game years ago and never gave it a shot, i regret that
You did good to not touch it, it's still in early access, get your hands on it when it's fully released my dude.
Nice to see you playing this game. :3
I love this game. Reminded me of Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Except, somehow nowhere near as good.
@@gameburn178to each their own I suppose. Having played both, I would pick Song's of Conquest over Hero's of Might and Magic 3. That is due to a multitude of things. Among them is that Hero's 3 is heavily dated, has a STEEP learning curve (as it should, because it is not the first game in the series), and we are not likely to get anything on that level for a long time to come. That said it is pure nostalgia to play. Song's is new, and is the first iteration of a new resurgence in the genre. It has a much gentler on ramping process to introduce new players (which is not a bad thing) to this style of game. The art style is aesthetically pleasing, and captures a lot of the old charm of the Hero's games. It has brought a lot of new eyes to the genera and sold fairly well, which means there is likely to be at least one sequel. Sequels will allow the studio(s) to start experimenting, and to potentially nail the landing. To meet and possibly exceed what Hero's achieved all those years ago, would be a good thing. Song's is not there YET, but it's still in development. Let it cook.
Barya campaign and 1.0 release next month and I am extremely excited to play it!
My friend bought this game for me, and I absolutely love it!
How tough can rats be?
*laugh-laughs in Skaven*
Song of conquest is a masterpiece
It doesn't look like a game I would normally play but it's on sale super cheap so why not try it. Thanks Splatt.
Always pumped to see a splattercat video
It has soooo much potential, they nailed the feel of Heroes while having it's own style and mechanics which are all compelling, I hope it succeeds and keeps expanding after 1.0 Launch
Been playing this for a while, and yes, it's great
Yo Splatt! You should do like yearly or bi yearly round up of your most "excited for" (Or something along those lines) that you covered in that time period.
As a veteran scout player I applaud your instinct for risking being back-capped.
Funnily enough I bought this 2 days ago just from seeing it on Steam. Still had not booted it up.
The art style reminds me of The Last Spell. It's the only game the dev group made, but it's published by Coffee Stain, and they're cool
As a fan of Heroes and pixel art, this looks so dope
Makes me want to revisit Fallen Enchantress. 👍
I miss that game, i get nostalgic every time i see it available. The customization of your soldiers was great. The AI seemed like it cheated a bit from memory, heck the game itself could have used some code optimizing.
I bought this in release, it is AWESOME.
Game looks great. Ill be wishlisting it for sure and if its out of early access, ill buy it.
Never pass up a chance to play with necromancy, afterall.
Easy purchase, they seem to have very active devs as well. It also has mod support, another hallmark of a good game worth it in the long run.
The pixel art alone is enough to make me play this.
I hear you can do absurd things with hordes of rats.
who told you?
that was a private conversation!
Rats are indeed very funny
@omganotherun Yeah, there's a hero from the Loth faction that gives them more HP when they are in his army. And since the rats gain a massive damage boost whenever they take damage, having anything that helps them to survive a hit to punch back is helpfull.
Fun fact: you can actually target your own troops with your magic. So you can, lets say, kill a single rat with a weak spell, to ensure that the other 159 rats from the stack double their damage, then you sent them to one shot any enemy units.
You can totally built nothing but rat, money, and research buildings, and win by creating a vermintide.
Vermintide yes-yes!
i bought this game on a whim a a couple of days ago and didn't even noticed that it is still in EA 😅 Looks cool, i will play it some day, i think!? 🤔
Long time heroes fan, can confirm it's super solid. There's a few differences of course, but even with my middling strategic skills I'm having a blast.
They basically took Heroes and said let's amp up the Strategic requirements by requiring the player to focus heavily on their units, the battlefield, and magic.
So unlike Heroes you can't just blast through everything with your spells or your creatures or cheese the system with positioning and other Battlefield shenanigans.
I won't pretend I haven't gotten my booty kicked, but it only motivated me to come back harder.
Haha, you summed up what I usual ramble on about for paragraphs, putting it in a nice, neat package. XD
beautiful pixel art
The magic during battles is insane and totally makes it unique / different from HoMM. And the pixel art, man, it oozes love for the genre !!!
1.0 is out now! TBH i bought this purely on how stunning it looks, but it's a gem.
Thanks Splatt just bought this game.
That game is gorgeous.
Seeing this makes me wanna replay HoMM 5 with all its expansions...
I wanted to put it on my wishlist and figured out, i already own it. lol
Bought it in '22 already. 🙂 Very nice game, looks great, too.
If you want tactical, pixel art frog men, PoxNora is basically going to be playable forever. I just started playing again and made a few different Boghopper (frog men) Warbands.
It's like the stylings of HOMM and the insane units of Age of Wonders slammed together.
Nice. Someone who doesn't *only mention HoMM3. Good eye.
It's the Bacon of Power that did it for me.
love it!
ThankYou SirSpla77
Love this game and it's predecessor
you should always chose learning if you get it at beginning levels :D
a small stack of units is useful for spell casting since 1 unit gives the same mana as 100
Love this game
Waiting for 1.0 going nuts.
Would you ever check out draft of darkenss ever again seeing as its at its 1.2 version?
Hey Splat, did you ever play Minions of Mirth? I loved it back in the day, it really scratched that Everquest itch.
8:30 The game with the best of this style of graphics is, as I know, "Shadows of doubt"
For the Bacons of Power!!
the pixelart reminds me of Octopath Traveler
Disciples 2 to love
I could have sworn you just reviewed this.
ahh iconic splattercat, speaking more than playing a game well.
waiting on the full release
Frogloks for the win (i'm an eq2 player though)!
i played it. it's rea;;y fun, community maps r really fun, i love rat gang
Are these types of games hard to get into for somebody that has never played them? I think it looks pretty cool, but I've never played anything like this so I feel like I wouldn't know what I'm supposed to be doing. You've clearly played similar games before and have clear direction of what to do next.
Splat! Check out the game called Chromosome Evil 2!
YAAAAAAAAASSSSS
Its a fantastic game
I know people will disregard this game because of the click bait title but it's actually really fun
Is this one of the best games of the year also?
4:25 you pay for them to join and you discarded them
posted 11 seconds ago? in early today.
I saw it at like 50 seconds, ya barely beat me
I saw it at 3 seconds, as I literally came off the back of watching a true crime video. Pure chance but love a Splattercat early look
Bought it a long time ago, refunded it fairly soon after.
I hope it has improved since then because we need more solid HoMM-likes.
Mmm Bacons of Power.
This is 66% off on steam right now (at least in Australia).
*might be on sale elsewhere too I dunno.
IMPORTANT QUESTION:
Does the AI have unlimited resources with preeminent budget per turn or is it simulated so that you can actually cut off the ai from resources?
On normal difficulty the AI have no bonuses to resources/budget compared to the player. Uses the same mechanics etc.
Yeah its really a contender, though a balance need really for multiplayer and tournaments here. Heroes 3 is unbalanced too really since 1997 i played every Heroes or Heroes like game too and for many many many time. Also Silence of Siren is really great too it will come out next year, EA this year. We played the demo its really similar to Heroes 3-4-5 but in scifi! Hot seat was over after 1.5-2 hours twice! :) It was fast and great!
Halfway through the video I bought it on steam
👌🏻
Why didn't you buy another wielder or 2 to help with things?
I remember a time before SEO.... before the algorithm made the internet small, ans same-y... the before times...
for me all of the "races/castles" are the same. We have Humans, Humans with few skeletons, Desert Humans and frogs - but all of they are played very same with no differences in real gameplay.
Got the game on discount. Wouldn't touch it until full release though. I'm enjoying AoW4 atm so I wouldn't have to worried about being burnt out on SoC at early access.
yup got it a week ago for 66% off.
🖤
its okay i own it
0:52 "it's not one of those games in perpetual early access" - like 7 days to die? But how would you know it'll be in perpetual early access?
So i own this fair warning the difficulty curve goes from walking thru a meadow to climbing a cliff carrying a hippo with parkinsons in about 3 missions on EVERY campaign.
It's the closest anyone has gotten to heroes of Might and magic 3 complete in DECADES. But its not for casual play. and this is after a "rebalance".
Be ready.
Hey, hey people...
Its been years … when is it coming out of ea
Only thing I wish atm is voice acting, so you dont have to read 🤣😎
>AI is smart
Oh shi, might have to look into it.
it kinda feels like every game latley is the most amazing or anticipated. im sure their good games but i suspect they're probably just sponsored ones.. which is fine
👍🙂
the only chance to get a King's Bounty type of combat map these days. KB 2 had awful changes.
I want to jump back in. but that game breaks very easily. first game I had that gave me a white screen.
perpetual early access lol sounds like the game "cepheus protocol" game has been out since 2020..
I just feel that their window has closed, I rather play AOW4. Maybe if I played MP this would be better, since its a bit simpler and quicker to take turns on.
comment for the comment god!
:D
