  • Dr Davies of Silage Solutions shows farmers to use a simple and relatively low-cost refractometer - the same device used to measure colostrum quality to test grass before cutting for silage.

Thanks, I wanted to learn how to use the refractometer to measure the health of my plants, but had no idea how to get sap out of my plants. The garlic press is a great solution.

and some also recommend some stockings to keep solids out. One only wants the juice.

Would this work for testing grazing for laminitis prone equines? Roughly what is considered a high and low sugar grass reading? Is it better to get a digital refractometer if you're trying to read for low level sugars as opposed to fruits etc? Sorry for all the questions, this testing system may be a game changer for assessing forage for my horses without the expense of analysing through companies. Thank you for a very informative video 😊

Data is only a waste of time if someone doesn't use the results to make more informed decisions.

Some do say that, but I'm a believer coz others get amazing results from keeping an eye on quality. I highly recommend Nicole Master's book 'For the Love of Soil'
