Awesome video, very helpful information 🙂. Brian thank you again for taking the time to answer all my questions.
You bet! Also, we have a more in depth guide to refractometers here: ua-cam.com/video/5xSo3HCTKzE/v-deo.html if you want to learn more!
good video
Glad you enjoyed!
What do I do if I forgot to take an OG when I brewed my mead. Is there a way to see abv?
You can estimate the OG based on how many pounds of honey you put in, and how many gallons of water you used.
@@BenhamBrewing Seems like there ought to be a way to use the difference in readings between the hydrometer and the refractometer to calculate an ABV. For instance my current beer brew started with an OG of 1.062 and is currently at a FG of 1.010 but the current refractometer reading is 1.035 (due to the alcohol which is around 6.5%).
Shouldn't you ZERO the instrument BEFORE you take a reading? Asking for a friend.
Tell your friend that they are correct, though its not necessary every time you use a refractometer. In this quick guide on how to read and take samples, we did not mention calibration. Let your friend know they can watch this video here: ua-cam.com/video/5xSo3HCTKzE/v-deo.html which covers this topic in more detail (so not the Quick Guide". Cheers!
