    The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla is unique in modern times. The United Kingdom is the only monarchy in Europe which still holds coronations. Secularism and revolutions from the enlightenment through the 20th century did away with Europe’s other crowning traditions. No one wanted a coronation when crowned head where getting chopped off. But Britain is not the only modern monarchy which puts a little pomp and pizazz into celebrating the beginning of a new royal reign. Many surviving monarchies outside of Europe still hold traditional coronation and enthronement ceremonies. They are a way to keep history and culture alive, link the mystic chain of dynasty, secure the reign of a new monarch and ensure that their subjects viewed them with proper reverence. Today, we’ll explore fascinating coronation and enthronement traditions going on today in Africa, Asia and Oceania. And find out when and why 11 of Europe’s 12 surviving monarchies stopped (or never started) doing coronations. And what they do instead to commemorate the ascension of a new sovereign.

      I will be really disappointed if the rumors are true and Charles’s coronation won’t be a tiara event. The tiaras are mostly over hundred years old and hiding them won’t save money and make the royalty more relatable. I want all the European monarchies showing off their tiaras in the event too for people who only follow British Royal family.

Which will be King William V (If he keeps William as his regnal name) and King George VII (If he also keeps George as his regnal name) that's also dependant on whether or not the Monarchy survives, as a New Zealander and subject of King Charles III I hope and pray that the monarchy stays with us until the end times, God save the King and long may he reign ❤️🇬🇧❤️🇳🇿❤️

    It's been so long since 1953, I bet a lot of people don't understand the religious significance of the UK coronation, that it's held in a church, performed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and some would say reinforces that Charles has been chosen by God to be king. I doubt most people would think of Charles this way today, rather than just being a lucky guy to be born first.

    • @04nbod
      @04nbod Рік тому +12

      'some would say reinforces that Charles has been chosen by God to be king'
      That only matters to Anglicans. The Coronation is important for a few reasons
      -Its a moment of national unity and reflection
      -Its a moment for the country to look to the future
      -It ties us to our past and our ancestors through this ongoing tradition
      In a more cyncial way, its also a huge promotional event from the country and a money spinner for London. Politically its a diplomatic carrot as we saw with Biden. No US president ever went, the coronation is an event for the monarch and the people he represents but now its used as a way of identifying your friends and allies and improve relations with those who would really quite like a ticket.

    I also have some questions regarding royal titles. Should a queen regnant marry either a king of another country, or the head of a defunct royal family, what would their new titles be? For example should Leonor, Princess of Asturias, daughter and heir of King Felipe VI of Spain marry Don Luis de Borbón Vargas, Duke of Burgundy, son and heir to Louis Alphonse de Bourbon, Duke of Anjou, and would be King Louis XX of France, what would their titles be once they ascended their thrones as Queen Leonor of Spain and Louis de Bourbon Vargas, Duke of Anjou, and would be Louis XXI of France? Would they be known by the media as the Queen and the Duke of Anjou, similar to how Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip where referred to often by the media as just the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh? Would their son be known as both Prince of Asturias and Dauphin of France, and later King of France and Spain? Please let me know how a situation like this would play out.

    • @christinaj.jensen4805
      @christinaj.jensen4805 Рік тому +8

      I can answer some of that. It is no longer royal protocol for an heir to one throne, to marry the heir or monarch of another existig monarchy. This is of course because no monarchy merge with another monarchy anymore and haven't been able to do so in quite some time.
      There actually haven't been a King Louis the XIX of France. And even if there had, he's not going to be King of France. If Leonor marries Louis Alponse, who has no claim to any existing throne, at least not a claim that makes him a direct heir, it will only be a Spanish title he is granted. And he will likely have to give up the titles he does have.
      Infanta Leonor of Spain (that is her Spanish title) can marry whoever she falls in love with. Arranged marriages are a thing of the past and they therefore don't have to marry other royals anymore. Very few actually do. Spain is however a country that, unlike say the UK and Denmark, have had a King Consort (according to the late husband of Queen Margrethe of Denmark, who were very vocal about his wish to become King Consort, and used Spain and Scotland as an example). But it was also a different time, where women had to be subordinate to men. So, while there have been King Consorts in Spain, it might not happen with Leonor's future husband.
      Prince Phillip was both a Prince Consort and the Duke of Edinburgh. The reason for this is, in the eyes of the law, the title of King is above that of a Queen. And when the Queen was the monarch, the husband could not be above his wife. In Denmark, it is actually written in the Constitution, that no one is above the King in rank or title. So while Queen Margrethe's late husband, Prince Henrik, truly believed the Queen could change his title, it actually demanded a change of the Constitution. Which in Denmark is every politicians worst nightmare, because it is a daunting process to go through passing an amendment.

      843 AD is when Kenneth I MacAlpin, who was already King of Dal Riada (i.e. the Scots), became King of the Picts. He and his immediate successors were still known as "King of the Picts," but no one knows when that Kingdom of the Picts began. At various times the Picts had one, two, four or seven kingdoms at the same time.

    Dragonborn! To include, to promote expansion, more than one anointing, more than one, anointed! You spread culture, else there is less certainty, your investments don't return with a vengence! In a world culture, where there's profound regional culture, there may be an interest to revisit the ceremonial relevance of certain people attached to the land in a way which limits their individual free movement and binds them to a life of commitment and duty to the land and the people of the particular region. There ought to be a profound appreciation for these people because their investments over the generations ought to be the ones appreciated the most by the people of the region. For instance, instead of building new palaces each generation, they build new community buildings, so are loved because they were the first of a kind, and the introduction of the building program became ubiquitious, some are loved because they are unique and remain a proud representation of something not a feature of most neighborhoods.
    Charlemagne needed to be, converted, I have, AME! People want to be lead into victory, prosperity, and glory, with pomp and circumstance!

      Siam is the older native word used by everyone to call Thailand. It's been used for so long no one is sure about its origin.
      Thai is also a native word that has been used for a long time too, but it's used to refer to a specific race/tribe of people who also live in Thailand (see: Tai people).
      Thailand is a modernized name coined by the Thai government in a more recent time during the then PM's mass-modernization campaign.
