The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla is unique in modern times. The United Kingdom is the only monarchy in Europe which still holds coronations. Today let’s explore the 1000 year evolution of the English and British coronation. From the crown stolen from Edward the Confessors grave, to Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon’s lavish coronation clothes and feast. From making copies of the throne and regalia for the crowning of co-monarchs William and Mary to the outrage of putting Elizabeth II’s coronation on gasp television. Then I’ll walk you through the rituals, regalia, relics and everything else we are likely to see during the coronation of Charles III and Camilla.

Leicester = lesster
Gloucester = glosster
Bicester = bister
Worcester = wuster
When in doubt, drop a syllable or two.
The exception to this is Cirencester.
Unfortunately she doesn't learn it had been mentioned many times
Y’all invented the language and yet pronounce/spell your stuff so weird 😭

I’m so envious that you’ll be in London on such a historic occasion!! I can’t wait to follow along!
I saw the coronation chair in the early 80s. I was shocked at all the names carved in it.
So jealous that you will be there! Enjoy the trip and thanks for sharing with all of us!
Gloucester is pronounced Gloss-ter. Not glow-chester.
And Roger Vivier (QEII’s shoes) is “Ro-jet Viv-e-a”, three syllables in Vivier, not two.
She continues to say Go-tha instead of Goat-ta, for Gotha despite repeated correction; I think you’re going to have to suffer with it🫠
@@dominaevillae28 Been watching her for a while and she’s not really going stop saying it like that Edit:Why dose this have 10 likes?
I agree thank you for the comment and yeah when she’s doing a few other words, it’s like oh my God
Came here for this comment 😂
Love this series! Please consider making a video or series on more royal food! Maybe the menus of coronation feasts throughout history?
I would LOVE to see that!
I hope you have a wonderful time at the Coronation. I look forward to your videos.
💫👑💫
I am glad when we say someone "lost their head" is only figuratively. Thanks Lindsay!❤
Fantastic episode, thank you. You are so lucky to be in London to witness such an event.
Looking forward to it. Have a safe fun trip!! We were lucky to see the queen in 2017 as she was taking a carriage from horse grounds to the palace. Will always remember it.
You deserve to be famous and have your own TV series
NO, not until she cares about pronouncing names correctly. After years of being called out on it, corrected and criticized, she just continues to do it anyway. Completely trashes her credibility.
@@sballantine8127yet you’ve been watching her videos for years when you think her credibility is “trashed”. Huh
I'm just up to 1012 on the British History Podcast so about 40 years after Edgar....
I've gotta confess - 2:00 that's not how I envisoned him in my head 😂😂
Wow great the music is not noisy and it's nice 🙂
Gloucester is pronounced "GLOSTER" always and without exception
I can't wait to see the coronation. I've never seen one live. I'm also part of the street party committee in my area so that's gonna be fun too
that's awesome you are going over there for the coronation
i like the art you used in this video :)
Do more queens of the world
Ooh yes. Like Kristina of Sweden or Dagmar. The mother of Nicholas II.
Queen Adelaide would be good
gloucester = glosster. kind of surprised you mispronounced that one with as often as you do english stuff.
Can you share some books to learn more about the coronation? I find the idea fascinating
Ooh, yes please. I love learning new things.
🥂 for the Coronation of 🇬🇧
5:05 You forgot Edgar the Ætheling
Hope you have a wonderful time at the coronation.
Charles hasn’t invited (the rather small number) of Dukes & Duchesses. I suppose it’s a good thing if they won’t have coronets👑 to hide their sandwiches 🥪
I’m from Boston, and we have the same town names…. The mispronunciation is making me nuts. I also believe when the coronation crowns and such were remade they actually didn’t look like the actual ones. They were made much more opulent than the previously destroyed ones.
New Englanders know how to pronounce the town names and it always drives me nuts when people mispronounce them. The problem is unless you're from England or the NE you're probably going to mispronunciation them.
Listening while prepping my horse’s meals for a week!
Kingston upon Thames had crowned a few coronation s before 1000
Will The Stone Of Scone be part of Charles III Coronation?
Yes and then taken back to where it belongs.
Great episode, but the statement of the UK royals being the only ones who have coronations is incorrect. The King of the Netherlands had one ten years ago
Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands had an inauguration. He never wore the crown, so it was not a coronation. This is what many other European monarchies do. Check out my video about it ua-cam.com/video/682-zrStMr8/v-deo.html
Talk about being born in privliage . Even the guy planning the ceremony has generations of relatives who didn’t have to do a thing their whole life except plan a party
R.I.P Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II.

What is someone took him up on his offer of combat and WON? Would they be king?
Oh dear comments are crazy message for Lindsay: I think maybe you might want to go on Google and test out the names of things in the future a lot of people are going off in the comments 😅
So the first queen regnant to have a coronation was Mary I.....
2:02 - Edgar the Peaceful invented twerking?
It’s not going to be the Grand Occasion of Elizabeth, as Charles has done away with a lot of the original ceremony and only 2,000 guests compared to his mothers 10,000 at the Abbey. The Anointing will not be televised and lots of Dukes and Earls weren’t invited. No ceremonial Robes for the ones invited, just lounge suits and dresses for the ladies. So a lot of people will be disappointed at the cut backs Charles has made.
Why the coronation of King Richard iii and anne nevile was not mentioned ? 😢😢
I mean how the queen and the king was dressed as you have told beforehand that
King Richard iii 's brother Edward iv 's wife wore a silk gown and the king held a lavish feast and joustling tournament 😮😮
In my opinion I think I was a perfect timing of Philip to put the royal events on TV and with Charles coronation I think he's trying to continue the modernization of the Monarchy. It was definitely very liberal and if the queen suggested it in the 50's it would of been refused
15:26 whats up with this portrait?!
How credible is the story that Henry was going to host Jane's coronation in York?
London circa Glorious Revolution
Londoner 1: I know James II wasn’t popular but shouldn’t the people help him?
Londoner 2: Remember his coronation? He cancelled the parades, parties AND the wine fountain!
Londoner 1: Oh yeah… fuck that guy.
Victorian Era 1837-1901.
❤
I wonder if William will tone down the coronation. With an institution of questionable legitimacy, and more modern younger members, they strike me as the type that would begin the roll back of such a spectacle.
🖤🖤🖤
Oh, and did you know that sticking out your little finger when drinking a cup of tea is considered ( & has always been considered, since after the addition of handles to tea-cups) terribly vulgar and a sign of someone of low class; social climbers aspiring to gentility? I do not know how Americans think its classy, it is the absolute opposite and tbh I expect the British probably taught them that on purpose to make fun of them
"Glow-chester cathedral"?!? Are you kidding!?! Gloucester is pronounced 'gloster'!!
Ha Catholics still run the show as duke of Norfolk is Catholic
Queen regants should be able to give their husbands the title King consort
That would make their husbands a higher rank than them; and most people wouldn’t appreciate some foreigner outranking the rightful monarch
Nothing of the Scottish Coronation traditions. Typical US vew of UK history.
👏🏽
True
I heard that the king wants to be the " guardian of all faith" ...not the exact words but something like it...and I understand that he wants to make changes and that is ok,but I think the best way to honor his position is to mantain the coronation as it is, because this is exactly what the have preserve o er the decades and is the simbol center of the reason why his family exists and his country.....
Although there are so many things happening arround him and he seems to be giving messages out there, he will end up destroying everything that was built just because he wants it his way. So I think he is as spoiled as his junger son amd I just can't believe he did not understand his lete ancestors legacy in 60 years inside the family and institution.
He will reapeat the other King's Charles mistakes it seems that the names are condem to repeat the late ones.
Fotunately William comes from the "Willian the conqueror" and has got more powerfull aura as the name
But Charles all of the three have this sent of weakness and problematic energy.
Personaly I think what happened with his first wife has a heavy karma and we know this king is more incline to other religions than the one he id suppose to be the head of atate.....this monarchy is falling to pices😢
So you’re ok calling Camilla “Queen Consort” but not for Queen Alexandra and other Queen consorts even tho ALL OF THEM are Queen Consorts?
Cuz she knows Camilla is so hated because of diana fans
We Yank historians discussing Limey history...
Not Queen consort- Queen Camilla
I think she is titled Queen Consort on the official website, but this might change once she is coronated perhaps.
Idk- it's been published by several sources that Charles wants her titled Queen
God save the king charles 3 and queen camila
If you are going to narrate, learn how to pronounce English place names.
Candy coated history of stolen blood gems & precious metals fm Africa & East India to adorn those murderous heads of state.
That history shd include the Truth not the fantasy.
They are symbols
With or without the monarchy the state owns the crowns government is in charge of them it wouldn’t change anything
You can’t really just say all of them are stolen ? Blood Diamonds etc are still being mined now just for different people yet people obviously don’t care
just let us enjoy the celebration
The government would be the murderers if anyone was anyways
You obviously don’t understand much of how it works and how it has worked for the past three hundred years ( as a symbol )
What about the Greeks, Chinese, Japanese, Russians, Germany, Egyptians, Vikings, French, etc
All were nations that did the same.
NEXT ?
This woman is NOTORIOUS for mangling the pronunciation of names of people and places. And she just doesn't care, which is the worst of it.

So stoked to be in London the entire weekend of the coronation!
Gloucester is pronounced like "Glosster", but excellent presentation nonetheless!
I just wanted to let you know that Gloucester is pronounced gloster to rhyme with roster. I know this because we have one here in MA. BTW, I do love your videos. I've learned so much from them. Thank you.
I’m listening to this while studying 🫣
How can you pay attention to 2 information heavy things at once? XD

I found it interesting that you show Camilla as Camilla Shand, rather than Camilla Parker Bowles. She’s only ever been referred to as CP-B here in the UK. Is she referred to as Camilla Shand outside of the UK?
No. We say CP-B too. Most people don’t know her maiden name over here.
Her legal name was PB when she became more well known as the other woman/the Rottweiler.
In Germany, most people are not even aware she got the Name through marriage
King William lll🤝King Charles lll -Cheap coronations

Did you know King Charles III's great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great uncle was named Chad?
He also went by the name Cedda of Wessex and was born in 590 to Cuthwine of Wessex
Cerdic?
Literally the only thing about this coronation that excites me is your coverage of it
1:34 That's not Saint Augustine, that's Saint Louis (Louis IX of France). He is clearly identifiable from his attributes (draped in a robe of fluer-de-lis & holding the Crown of Thorns, which he purchased from the Latin Emperor of Constantinople & placed it in Paris' Notre-Dam Cathedral). What sources did you use to give this ?
Thank you for another wonderful video!❤
To His Majesty King Charles the III.
Elizabeth's Beloved Son.
1:30 Isn't that Saint Louis IX of France?
Ceremony is serendipitous, significant and symbolic! I think that the message that it is a ceremony which binds and promotes the joy and respect for the civilization as exhibited at the ceremony is very important.
Henry VIII was actually planning on having Kathryn Howard queen if she was pregnant
Why youu didn't talk about Queen Anne 😠
Good morning everyone
I'm jealous that you are going to be there for all the pomp and ceremony
Hiii❤
Faith and truth (wherever that may lead) unto you, Charles. Kudos to MS Holiday, with the clear, steady voice. Won't you review Geo V's politically expedient mutation and call it the House of Oldenburg?
I would wear all purple too if i was having a coronation. I love purple. Its my favorite color.
I wish I was in London for the coronation 😭
18:13-were Mary I and Phillip not joint monarchs?
I think he was king in name.... As he was the king of Spain ... Making Mary not only Queen Mary 1st of England but Queen consort of Spain
Philip was kinda king in name but not really. He was only given the title of king for Mary’s lifetime and he was unable to act without Mary’s approval in anything, and England was not required to aid Spain in any wars. I don’t think he was ever actually crowned. He was really only ever king _jure uxoris_ and isn’t really considered to have been an actual monarch in his own right. William and Mary were the only dual monarchs who both ruled in their own right. The title king was little more than a formality to get him to marry Mary, functionally and politically he was not king
