I'd like to dedicate this to my Dad ( who is , sadly , in hospital and approaching the end of his "innings" ) … a true English gentleman , a countryman , an amazing father , Grandfather , loving and supportive husband to my Mother …… but above ALL a cricketer!

Is one of those tunes that if you are old enough you will know this is associated with the cricket. Great memories.
I certainly am old enough to remember this theme tune - 53 in June. Grew up watching it and am mad about cricket, especially the start of the new season!!!
This track is perfectly made for this sport, 👌🏼anything else simply isn't cricket. A real classic that encapsulates long, hot summer holidays.
This fabulous piece of music is the sound of school holiday music through the 1970s for me and brings back lovely golden memories of a happy childhood, this has to be the greatest theme tune ever.
Puts me in a good mood when I hear this tune.. sitting with my dad watching cricket on a black and white telly

Takes me right back to the glorious dog days of an '80's summer. Lords, Egdebaston, the Oval, Lloyd, Richards, Botham, Gower, Courtenay and Curtly. Long live cricket and this wonderful theme song.

best theme tune to anything ever. it's just a class tune, even without all the nostalgic summer cricket memories to back it up.

It is indeed an absolute classic, but I think it shares first place with Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain for formula one racing and the Doug Wood bands Drag Racer for the snooker.

For me, cricket comes to me as a sport of endurance. Test and first class cricket is certainly my favourite game. I can also enjoy a one day game. As far as I'm concerned, T20 is not real cricket. And don't get me started on The god awful Hundred!!!

Probably the best BBC sport theme tune of all time

I’m listening to this after seeing England win their first World Cup. As a 5 year old, this song excited me more than any other and it inspired me to play and follow cricket. Listening to it now, it feels like many years of hurt and desire are at peace because we finally won the trophy that counts. This tune will forever be in my heart as an England cricket fan. Thank you New Zealand for giving the cricket world the match of their lives.
I remember the placard at Lords put up by the Aussies, "Ashes to Ashes dust to dust if Lille don't get you Bionic Thommo must!" Two years later, the Aussies came back and Thompson couldn't hit a barn if he stood three feet away. The Trent Bridge crowd put up a banner "Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust, Bionic Thommo has turned to rust!"

Funny, as an American (from Ohio, no less, in the middle of the hick Midwest) I never associated this song with any sport, much less cricket (didn't even know such a thing existed--the only crickets I knew about had six legs) but now I can't get the two unstuck from each other. Did you know that Hick was the name of an English cricketer (Graeme Ashley Hick to be precise) and I wasn't aware that he had any connection with the Midwest! Soul-Limbo was originally released before I was born.

Who was in charge of selecting the BBC sports themes? Grandstand, MOTD, cricket, snooker, ski Sunday, F1, golf.......whoever they were they should be knighted, posthumously if necessary.

This is probably the best theme music to anything ever, this is summer and summer is this, so many fantastic memories of watching test match cricket through school summer holidays through the 70's and 80's.

@Rho1963 I think also that Mike Brearley being reinstated as captain, and Bob Willis taking 8 for 43 at Headingly might have had something to do with us winning. Botham had a shocking series until he had the captaincy taken away.

So much love and respect for all the DAD comments on here, so many of us have treasured memories (myself included) of either watching or remembering our dads watching this, this theme tune is forever in my heart...its also in the Lamby and Beefy gravy advert from the late 90s early 00s where the cricketers were using the pans to play this song ❤😂
Spring will soon turn into Summer. Good days at the crease, catching a few, probably dropping more....Some good tea's and some awful ones and hazy Summer nights talking about the days events in the pavilion. I love my village Cricket.

Hearing this again reminded me of our school sports day and what a big deal our teachers made of it. This song was our opening song. It also reminds me of my grandad too
