1. Pu er would be two distinct sounds. And that tea sounds expensive. Have you looked into getting the tea directly from a Chinese seller? 2. Yes, we do say spanner in the UK and Ireland. 3. I REALLY needed this video. I'm still recovering from some serious burnout. Like, I was ready to leave my job and China to go back to my home country burnt out. I was trying to do intense professional development training on my own time, studying advanced Business Chinese, re-learning Irish, cooking more AND trying to learn how to drive (for the first time) through Mandarin. All while working too hard at my job and trying to set up a side hustle. And trying to reach 100% completion in Breath of the Wild.... Yeah... That didn't work out well. Going to try Martin's idea of one focus a month. Brilliant!
This channel was obviously built on the likeability, personality, brains, humor, creativity & talent of Thomas but Martin is also so great too! He's smart, funny, realistic & cool - great addition to your team he should be on camera with you frequently. Thx, Brian (age 53) p.s. make good use of time at a stoplight, do ab-vacuums for fitness (a flat stomach) then you'll look forward to stoplights instead of being frustrated by them - ha!
you guys are the best. two of you, actually DISCUSSING, no unhumane monologue. practical to the BONE! reality, not *just* "do this and everything will be great". optimization, and rhythm. waves. activity, pasivity, and on many levels. spiraling up. :) one of "us". down to earth and only one REAL.
Your podcasts are amazing. Even though I am from London and i still don't know what 5th grade actually means, you two have made me grow as a person. keep making these!...you deserve a lot more listeners, appreciate the work you put into these. Cheers guys :)
These podcasts are always in the right time. I have been trying lately to schedule my hours in order to get more of my daily routine, but I forget essentialism and to focus on the things that really matters. I get lost thinking how to schedule and set deadlines for my personal goals instead of actually doing them. But, as you said 'less is more', I would rather pospose some of them in order to achive what is more important right now, and achieve them in the right way. It's always a good thing to see the videos. Thanks
I love this podcast! Especially that this episode gives insight into the approach to building structure in your life (and how much of it is healthy) and that's something I was thinking about recently All these examples are really helpful by the way ^^
Oooo look that setup! Me gusta :) Edit: I really needed to hear about it being okay to not optimize everything. That's been stressing me out so much and I realized that just now. Thanks guys!
I would argue that Martin could, if he wanted to, proudly claim all three of these descriptors. I'm not sure why you assumed that I think Martin is a nerd/geek though.
I’m an old psychologist and I’ve read every productivity gig under the sun. But I’ve never heard anything cleverer than your psychology of buying productivity systems: the buying is so easy and misleads you into thinking you’ve nearly solved the problem.
When Thomas was talking about boiling down the traits or qualities of things/activities he likes, it reminded me a lot of the concept of core play aesthetics in gaming. Discovery, challenge, and sensation (which would include momentum) are all core play aesthetics. It makes sense that aspects of play would surface in other activities we enjoy, but that was a really intriguing connection for me!
Went and bought a white board as soon as I finished listening. I've been feeling this terrible anxiety about not optimizing enough and have been in a decision limbo for weeks (maybe months) now because I felt guilty I would have to abandon my other interests in order to build habits. Resulted in failed attempts at trying to squeeze many habits in one day, when I could have just been doing a 30 day challenge, knowing that next month I'll be focusing on the next thing. Amazing tips as always, thanks guys!
lol, I love my tea but I am so particular about how I have it. I say “no” every time someone asks if I want a cup of tea even if I really want one because I know it won’t be perfect. And if it’s a situation where I am not at home and/not completely comfortable with that person, I can’t actually go and make my own cause I think it’s rude. Oh the dilemmas I face!
This video was a nice balance to the productivity tips in your videos. And thank you for being honest about not being perfect, it's really encouraging.
i did a 30 day running challenge because my workout and running especially sucked. Now, I can run a few miles no problem and workout because I enjoy it. DEFINITELY do a 30 day challenge! I made it super simple. I ran every day for the date of that day or longer. This made it really easy to start which was the hardest part. For example, on March 12th, I ran for 12 minutes or more. Just starting and knowing that I had a minimum end time allowed me to often push my 15 minute run to 20-25 minutes because I felt good about how far I had run and believed in myself that I could do more.
This is perfect. I've just been thinking about this particular topic yesterday and today its here uploaded! PS I love the style of your podcasts. I like listening to them while I'm doing maths or low intensity work. Long, casual and more engaging that music!
This is surreal...jst exactly what i needed and no one talks about this anywhere..I ws wondering about it...n boom here it is..tysm..U guys never forget to be awesome😁😎🤓
I think that's a 100% personal decision. I almost always listen instead of watch, as I intake podcasts while I'm cooking or riding my bike. But a lot of people like to watch, which is why we offer both.
FallyingHigh yes the first podcast I watched was a CGI one, so I assumed all of them was visual podcast , so when I went to go watch others and it wasn't I didn't like them as much , overtime I did listen to the non visual ones and they are just as good! but personally I love the visual, I get to see the tea, facial expressions and Thomas's eyes 😄😍
You both need to work on your food prep game Tom: homemade granola Martin: takeaway containers and a freezer and do some batch cooking Nice podcast episode though
Oh that is a great topic, definitely relates to me. Might have to switch to UA-cam instead of the audio podcast. It'll feel more personal and maybe, subconsciously, ill feel obligated and accountable to implement what I learn. lol
Hey guys! Nice podcast. Love the advice and points made in this episode. I was wondering if you guys can do an episode on something along the lines of ethnic diversity and inclusivity in college and higher education. I know it's all little different from your normal topics, but I think you are capable of doing it and it would help a lot of people. It's just a friendly suggestion. It's up to you whether you want to do it or not. I won't be upset. Besides that, keep up the great work :)
So I currently have a lot of school (German High School Student) but I need money to save up for University. Basically essentialism means that I should cut something out of my schedule to make space for e.g. a part time job?
Nihal Das i personally like to use them primarily for fiction or light non fiction, for dense non fiction I take lots of notes and highlights on a real paperback
The College Info Geek Podcast hey could you make video or podcast on how to retain most of the information in class lectures, even how to study a lot of info on one class with limited amount of time?
no continuous naval when it comes to hanging around I can't do it I just won't be able so you need to get your navel game back on the table and make sure you keep it copacetic and stable.
This is the podcast that calls me out on my entire state as a human being. That ends today lol (or am I just saying that to get the inital instant gratification of having people think I'm going to achieve my goals. Hmmmm...)
I love the original channel and everytime I noticed a new broadcast I tune in with the mindset that "this time I'm gonna listen to the whole thing" but I find myself switching to something else in like 10 minutes. I find it that you spend too much time talking about random stuff and I find myself too bored. Can you get to the point quicker next time. I would really like to benefit from those broadcasts
The podcast is purposely more casual and most likely won't change, but you can use the timestamps in the description if you want to skip right to certain points!
The purpose of all of this is to be chatty actually. If you want condensed but still useful information you have a TON of videos in Tom's channel. Kisses
kanpaisou I actually used to think like that as well. I was like omg what's the point?? But now I enjoy it 😂 I wouldn't even want them to get straight to the point. I guess you just need to get used to it and turn on a mindset which wants to hear a conversation rather than hard facts just shoot at your face.
AzureOcean I get what you're saying there. I enjoy other broadcasts but I don't know maybe in my brain I link this conent to being hyper productive so I come with the mindset of "we have to act, to do something, to optimize our time..."
Ha! Jokes on you, I am actually using productivity tips and improving my life, rendering this podcast episode useless. Nah jk still gonna watch it you guys are awesome
It's the focus of the camera. We're using a Blackmagic camera with a Micro 4/3rds lens mount since it was the best high-quality option for streaming the footage to my computer. However, that type of lens mount has a huge crop factor (meaning a lens of a certain focal length mounted to it will have a narrower field of view than the same lens mounted on a camera with a full-frame sensor). So normal Micro 4/3rds lenses wouldn't have worked in my tiny room. To solve the problem, we bought a Speedbooster, which is basically an lens adaptor that lets me use my Canon lenses on this camera, even though they're built for a bigger lens mount. It also has optics that actually widen out the field of view without degrading the quality. It works well, but it has two drawbacks. First, I can't control the lens aperture with it for some reason - so it's stuck at a low depth of field which makes focusing difficult (and it also doesn't support auto-focus). Second is that it seems to make the edges of the frame a bit fuzzy compared to the middle. It doesn't create an even focus. So it's really hard to get ourselves perfectly in focus - sometimes we manage it, other times we don't. I use this same lens for my main channel's videos, so we can't just focus it perfectly and then leave it there. Probably more than you wanted to know, but there you have it :P
The College Info Geek Podcast In the notification of your response it ended on 'We bought a Blackmagic camera...' and so I though you were gonna reply with a quirky joke but nah. Franku-son as always giving his viewers an in-depth lesson (consensually or otherwise).

12:31 Martin summarises the entire college info geek curriculum.
Bryce Does Life Martin is cool, not a nerd or geek.
I would argue that Martin could, if he wanted to, proudly claim all three of these descriptors. I'm not sure why you assumed that I think Martin is a nerd/geek though.

I really like your style of teaching...thanks, and also the tea dispenser is really beautiful
Keep on doing those great podcasts, thank you guys ❤
12:37 I did something like that *once*. I‘m never going to do that again.
Great podcast guys! Keep it up, very helpful. Martin is great! :)
This is a much needed video thank you so much!
Your podcast helped me get back to podcasts again. Always wondered which is better to watch/listen to your podcasts? UA-cam or a podcast player?
I think that's a 100% personal decision. I almost always listen instead of watch, as I intake podcasts while I'm cooking or riding my bike. But a lot of people like to watch, which is why we offer both.

Amazing podcast, the best one yet. Helped me a lot, as if it was made for me, thanks and keep making awesome content)
This must be the solution to actually live a more organized life, thanks guys, that is what I need right now)
Great discussion over the topic. By the way, that Pu'Er tea is looking good, most chinese old folks love this flavor.
Solid Video Tom, hopefully I can implement some of these haha
You both need to work on your food prep game
Tom: homemade granola
Martin: takeaway containers and a freezer and do some batch cooking
Nice podcast episode though

ugh love you guys

Love your podcast! Wish it was on Spotify though 😫

Ah, skateboarding not inline skating. It's ok, I still like you.
Also thank you so much for the awesome Beeminder plug at 38:25!
