    RV Camping with Lectric eBikes
    Hey Folks,
In this this video we're going to share our RV Camping with Lectric eBikes at Percy Quin State Park, Mississippi. We're going to share with you 3 things we don't like about our Lectric eBikes. Some folks would think Lectric bikes are the perfect e bikes for RVers, but maybe not. We're going to show you what we think about these Lectric bikes and how we have trouble incorporating them into our camping trips. We're going to demonstrate what it takes for us to take them along with us when we go camping in our Retro 189r travel trailer.
After all is said and done we even include our usual site walk around for site 56. Check out our other videos, including our campground drive through at Percy Quin State Park.
Feel free to share your ebike transporting tips and tricks in the comment section.
If you find value in this video, and our channel go ahead and hit the subscribe button. It’s free to subscribe and hit that notification bell too so you’ll know when we upload our next video:) We’d appreciate it as it helps other RVers to see our videos.
    Happy Trails & Happy Camping!

One guy puts the bin on it’s side and rolls the bike in on it’s own wheels when folded then uses a telescoping dog ramp from Amazon to slide the bin up- no lifting! Very smart!

I have a solution to all your problems. Get a bike rack that's rated for e-bikes and a frame mounted hitch for your RV. The frame mounted hitches for RV are rated for 300 lbs. That's plenty to support the weight of the rack and both bikes. As for loading lift the front tire and place it in the racks tire cradle. Now do the same for the rear. Repeat for the 2nd bike. My trailer is a toy hauler and the ramp doubles as a patio deck so at night I lower the handlebars and roll the bikes under the patio deck and lock to the trailer whether it be the rear stabilizer jack or the rear steps. Any place you can run a chain or cable lock thru. I also have alarms on my bikes. They are a combo rear light/alarm and attach to the seat post of the bike. Just like a car alarm they are activated and deactivated by remote so at night even if someone were to come onto my campsite and try to cut the lock as soon as they move the bikes it will set the alarm off. These alarms are on Amazon for about $25. Hope this helps.

      Hey Maxum
Thanks for the advice about a rack.🙂
Some time back we attached a rack to the back of our camper. While driving through a small town with horrible roads the rack bounced so badly that it dented (in several places) the back of our camper. When I saw the damage I thought..."I'll never use a rack on the camper bumper again".
The system we use may be a bit time consuming but I don't have to worry about the bikes or the camper. I see a lot of campers with bikes on racks attached to their bumper and they seem to work well for them. Maybe one day we'll try an upgraded rack system.
Thanks Maxum for your input, its always helpful to get feedback about this.😀

We fold our 2 Lectric bikes & they both fit in back seat folded (overlap some) or laying flat in bed. We use the Lectric lock to our trailer steps under the awning. We do use a bike cover at night. We don’t put them in & out during our camping trip. I’ve stopped worrying about theft. It’s just stuff. We had lighter Jupiter folding bikes but Lectric battery life is way longer. Thanks for the video

      Hey bobjoy
At first we did the same thing, we tucked them in the back seat of the truck. But, when our dog Jilly is with us (most of our trips) we keep her in a soft kennel in the back so that sort of kills that idea of keeping our bikes in the cab. I like your idea of a bike cover and a solid lock so we can leave them out at night, I'll look into that.
Thanks, bobjoy for the comment and for watching our video.

This is why we bought the XP lite. They are 20 pounds lighter and fold up smaller. They are very easy to haul around. We have a bike lock that has an 8 foot cable that we thread through the bike handles and under the camper. They are tucked nicely under the awning to protect from weather. Another perk to them being smaller.

I think that you might be able to hang the bikes unfolded with covers (one each side) on the outside of your truck bed. There are a lot of very talented guys out there that could weld something up for you that could hook over the side and that could be secured on the inside of the bed. Use horse blankets or 1/4" rubber floor matting to protect your truck. (Order at Big R or Tractor Supply.) Not sure if practical but just a thought. You might just start a trend!

Thanks for the video. Looking at purchasing a couple of e-bikes just like yours and have been looking for a review covering the challenges of transporting. I see the comments about getting a rack but the extra weight could cause a sway issue on a travel trailer. I think they’ll be lots of fun and practical for running errands so worth it if I have to drive a little slower. A very helpful video. Thanks again.

Nice set up! I have an electric bike similar to yours. I store mine inside the camper along the bed w/o folding it for transport. I have a bike cover that accommodates 2 bikes I got from Amazon to keep from prying eyes and to keep weather off, a cable lock I recycled from my spare tire. Just acquired a ramp for my aging dog and will use that to get the bike up in the camper. Thanks for your video!

We used to transport them in the camper too. That's still an option if we have a lot of things in the bed of the truck for our camping trips. We really need to get a cover so we can keep them out of sight at night. No matter, we really enjoy the bikes when we go camping. While at home the grand kids like them too😄😁.

Great video. Good information. We have a rpod 180 and a couple of himiway ebikes. Our truck is similar to yours other than being an f150. We ended up having a welding shop custom weld a 2 inch hitch on the rpod then we bought the Hollywood ebike rack. It's very sturdy and easy to load the bikes on. The only thing we don't like is it obstructs the brake lights on the camper a little bit especially with the rain covers on them. We tie the covers up with straps to show the brake lights the best we can. So far we've been blessed to have no issues with about 2000 miles of towing them.

That sounds like a good fix and a secure way to carry the bikes with you. I got off track, lol. We placed the XPs in the back of our 2500 once, it was a bit cramp and not as easy to get in there. The F250 might have a little more room (Those are nice trucks). If by any chance y'all see us out riding give us a holler, I'd like to compare the weight of the two (XP vs. XP Lite).

Our bikes will be delivered this week. Thanks for the video showing a different tub to lay them flat under the tonneau cover. Luckily for us we have space in our bigger camper to store them inside while traveling. Although we would not be storing them inside the camper at night at the parks. Out of sight, under the tonneau cover at night and while traveling might be the better option for us. I'll have to get creative to fit 3 bikes in a 6.75' bed. BTW, I'm only about an hour away from you guys. Guess we can use those tubs to wash/purge crawfish also as another use for investing in those tubs. Cheers!

You guys should watch a video on how to properly fold these bikes. I'm 61 years old and 5'6" tall. If you use the proper technique it's actually easier for one person to do it. They are heavy to lift by myself. We don't fold them when traveling anymore.. We used to tote them but now just lay them carefully in the back of my truck. A lot less time consuming. I wish there was an easier way but for us it's worth the extra work because these bikes are so much fun. Unfortunately a good bike lock is a necessity. Have a safe summer biking and camping.

    • @RetroRVRecon

Yup, I can use a bit more practice folding them. I figure the more we take them out the better we'll be (or just me 😁). I've heard some folks use bike racks in the bed of their trucks and carry them in the unfolder/ upright position. We may try that too. Away, they're a lot of fun whenever we take them with us. Do you a particular brand for a good bike lock?

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  Рік тому

      Hey Philip.
Thats a great place/way to haul bikes. We tried using a hitch at first with out MT bikes. We found that because the back section of our camper curves out it places the handlebars just a few inches from the camper. Rough roads cause it to shake just enough to hit the back of the camper (causing dents). Since then I decided not to use a hitch on our camper. I'm sure I could rig something but chose not to. We still use a hitch for hauling our bike to parks, just not on the camper.

Seeing them folded and put into the bins I wondered if in transport the e-bikes are vulnerable to being bounced around and damaged in the truck? In particular it seems the electronic display seem vulnerable having the rest of the bike sitting on top of it. I also wondered if those loaded bins will fit inside your trailer? Wouldn't putting the e-bikes in the trailer free up space in the truck for lawn chairs, bbq, etc? One advantage of your large bins is you can use them as his & her swimming pools for some real glamping! I can't imagine anything more relaxing on a hot humid Louisiana day!

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  Рік тому

      Hey Ross
I'm sure the bikes bounce around in the back of the truck while stuffed in the bins. So far we haven't had any issues with transporting them. There isn't any weight on the displays while in the bins, once we get them in the back of the truck they're pretty stable. The bins are too large for the inside of the trailer. We tried transporting the bikes unfolded in the trailer once and It went well except, we didn't feel comfortable leaving them out at night (even locked) and cramming them in the back seat of the truck was a hassle. We're happy with our setup.
As far as the bins, they are awesome for crawfish too.🦞🦀🦐

If you remove the battery, which is around 8-9 lbs, that would help a lot. I use a 50 gal tote and I can lay it down in the back of my truck and still be able to roll my cover on.

There are a couple companies that make rv rated bike racks for electric bikes. We chain ours up to the rear bumper when not in use . If it's going to rain I cover it with a tarp. We have really big bikes, 26 inch fat tires and over 80LBS each.

After I read your post I looked at a few racks. That's a good idea, I'll have to beef up the camper bumper though. The camper specs say not more than 100lbs on the bumper. One rack I found weighs 40 lbs plus our two 66lbs ebikes (172lbs)
Plus, doing that I can chain them up securely to the rack in the evening.😃

      Hey Dan, thanks.
We *could* use totes in the camper but for us the bed of the truck is best. Stowing our bikes under the hard tonneau cover frees up the inside of our camper. When we're on long trips we sometimes stop along the way for lunch (in the camper) and sometimes we boondock. Having the bikes in the camper then would be a little tight. Totes in the bed of the truck seems to work well for us, especially since we travel relatively light.🙂

      Hey knowone
      That's an awesome question!
We bought them so we can cover more ground on a bike when we visit locations that have decent places to ride a bike. The passive sarcasm is noted, so I will address that too...
A lot (if not all) of the UA-cam videos that highlight these "Lectric Bikes" are from folks that were given the bikes by "Lectric". We had to pay for our bikes and felt no obligation to "Lectric" to glamorize them as a form of payment.
The bikes are awesome but hardly anyone said anything about how heavy or cumbersome they are. Instead most folks that we feel received the bikes for free mentioned that they are fairly easy to transport, they aren't.
So what you saw from us was an honest opinion these bikes, although nice, are not so easy to transport for those folks with RV/Travel trailers.
Then again, "to each their own".
Thanks for watching some of our video knowone! 😁
