Hi Bryon, Glad to know that I'm not the only one that runs into a bunch of shit. I've definitely went through the school of hard knocks since my classroom has been trial & error. Glad you had a nice time re-connecting with your bike. That Honda 500 was/is really a nice bike. Have a beautiful day! Your #1 fan!!! Illinois, USA
Heya Bryan, I've been having issues with my '84 VF 500 F Interceptor, everything is pretty damn clean, did an oil change, removed the old petrol, put a gasket on the fuel valve as it was leaking, getting fuel into the carbs, got good spark and air, but it just wont start, but works fine when pouring a little through the air inlet, i have the jets sitting in a carb cleaner bath and hope that will fix the issue, should it not work though, do you have any suggestions? My bike has been converted to gravity fed as the fuel pump doesnt seem to be getting any power, tested the pump as is and it works, if that could cause a problem, please let me know, i'd be glad to hear from you!
Update: It runs on petrol now, had the nozzles in the carb cleaner bath for a day, put it all back together and it runs again, but it appears to have a vacuum leak or something as the revs jump to 3k for a bit, then settle back down to 1,5k. So, from the Motor block and up everything needs replacing/rebuilding.
I had to replace the boots between the carbs and heads as they were rock hard after 30 years. If you havent akready done this, find where the idle mix screws are, and if not already done drill out the little metal plugs that covers and remove the covers. This will give access to the idle mix screws taht will need to be reomeved and clean behind them. This helped the idle on mime.
@@bryansprojects3570 I figured the boots might need replacing, they are solid on mine as well considering they are now 40 years old. I'll have to look more into the workings of carbs to find all the parts that need replacing and cleaning. Where might these metal plugs be? I saw one in each float bowl just behind the nozzles, is that what i should be looking for?
@@apollogenerator9837 it looks like a small flat freeze plug, about the size of a pencil eraser, if I remember correctly. The idle mix screws is behind it. I may do a video soon synchronizing the carbs and will show it then. Good luck!
I will look out for that and see what I can do, thanks for the advice, it'd be awesome to get this bike running properly. I'd love to see that video if you ever get round to making it for sure!
Lucky you. Cannot locate gskt. kits for '86 model. I admire your perserverance in messing with those carbs until you got it to stop leaking. Did you figure out where that coil spring went?
I think that spring went between the shaft for the choke linkage. I think is only function was to add some resistance. Once I figured out where it went it was too late so I left it out.
