Since I've done my own DIY motion rig I'll never never come back to a static-mode flight sim. The VR+motion combo is the biggest jump I've done in videogames and simulators. Thousands of times more than the jump we saw from the 8 bits 2D games to 3D games in the 90's

I've been using my H6 for over a week now, I'm using one of Jeff Weaver's SRS profiles (for subscribers) for MSFS, pretty good all round. I'm surprised that I'm not really having any motion compensation issues, and I like to throw the Bush planes about a bit in turbulence and force the odd stall. It has its quirks, and I've had to press the emergency stop button a few times when I inadvertently got into stormy weather, but on the whole I have to agree, it's a game changer for flight sim.

I'm still definitely interested in this. My job changed last week as the the NHS funded company I work for lost the contract to deliver the service we've been delivering for the past 15 years so we've been transferred to another company so I don't want to make any big financial decisions until this has all settled but I think this year I'll resist the urge to buy any more headsets or PC tech so I can save up and probably get the H3. I feel like yaw will be worthwhile for rudder pedal control.

I'm glad you mentioned the "mechanical" feeling at slow speeds, because I was noticing the same thing and wasn't sure if it was normal or not. When I first assembled it I had the motors on the wrong side and they slammed the seat back when I first turned it on and they started getting warm, so I was worried that I'd broken something. After fixing the problem It's been working great though.
I turned on a little bit of engine haptics so the rig rumbles slightly when the engines are on, which smooths out the slow speed bumpiness a bit I think, or at least makes those bumps blend into the rumble of the engine anyway.

  • @reckett

I'm scratching my head regarding the direction of roll that the rig interprets. Firstly, a balanced turn is a 1g manoeuvre, therefore you don't feel any roll. If you throw a wing over quickly, your body is pushed in the other direction to the turn (think of pulling your car wheel hard one way which throws you in the other direction), so I'm not getting why this rig rolls left when you do a left turn ...also, a hard pull back on the yoke should force your head down and be simulated by a pitch forwards, followed by a gentle recline once inertia has changed. I don't see the compensation for inertia of the body, centrifugal force or gravity. It looks backwards to me. It is a complex set of subtle motions to simulate correct movements. Maybe I'm assuming too much from the software.

The H2 I think is quite hands-on - a tinkerer's dream! I went with the Simrig SR2 and it's really plug and play, and has added so very much to the experience! I wouldn't say it adds much that's useful for flying sims; I'd say it does if set up correctly for racing sims.

Hi Cali, firstly congratulations on embarking on your dream of becoming a real world pilot, that must be such a great feeling. I can't really say for sure since I have not tried a H3 or H6, I did however try a 3DOF motion rig when I went to see Varjo (with added heave), but to be honest I don't feel like I'm missing that extra movement. I'd love to try a 6DOF rig someday though! In regards to the haptic seat, I use the SRS one with 6 powerful transducers. I'll have a video out soon trying both the motion rig AND haptic seat (so far I've had little time to experiment with both), so stay tuned for that video coming soon. Take care.

If your young and can afford it, definitely get a real pilot's licence! A sim will always be there for you! Still love to fly but can't pass the physical anymore sadly:( As a previous owner of both relatively cheap, (Beechcraft Musketeer) and expensive (Cessna 172) Ownership is great "for awhile" but if you don't have a lot of extra cash the throw around, (and retirement is well established) like you said join a club/rent etc would be best advice. • @VRFlightSimGuy

@@Cpen5311When you first setup your H2 or H3 you want to try and BALANCE it to some degree. There is a pivot point on the chair and you want the front, rear, and each side to be fairly close in weight. Don't throw everything on the front and expect your rig not to groan under the strain. There is a lot of benefit to balancing your rig correctly. Your motors last longer, your rig will respond quicker, and there is less strain on the rig overall. I have had my H3 with the SFU gearboxes for over a year. I have played as long as 6 hours in it non-stop and my motors never got above 25 degrees C. This is what correct balancing can achieve.
