    While we're all busy praising the Black Square Bonanza and King Air, I'd just like to point out that their Cessna Caravan is also very fun. I think it gets a bit overshadowed by their newer releases.

      Sadly, this behavior is an “occupational hazard” for those who like cameras/optics, flight sim, firearms, golf, astronomy, etc. When spend is not too outrageous for the newest shiny thing, we just buy it. (I liken it to becoming a hoarder - “hobby hoarder” - which is a high-class problem, i suppose .😉)

      Haha, a fair point Taschi.
      I was conscious that I didn’t mention the Caravan; personally I don’t get quite as much enjoyment out of the addon, as it’s just not the type of aircraft I tend to fly in the sim. I also don’t think that the Caravan’s interior is quite as graphically beautiful as Black Square’s other releases, but I think that’s simply a function of the way the real life Caravan’s panel looks. Nevertheless, the Analogue Caravan is still another excellent Black Square effort!
      Cheers, all the best : )

    Into the Blue Simulations. Where to start? Perhaps with this: There is no more professional way to deal with Microsoft's MSFS 2020. It is immediately clear that someone is speaking who actually knows what he is talking about. Someone who flies professionally. But it's not just that. Just as impressive is the passion and fluency with which he does it. It is not possible to do it any better. But that's probably only understood by people who, like me, are crazy about flying. For me, it started at the age of 6. On my first flight in a Hapag-Lloyd Airbus A 300-B-4 to Las Palmas. I wish only one thing: That he never loses the fun of it and will continue to produce such amazing videos for a long time.

      Thank you very much Peter, for quite possibly one of the nicest messages I have yet to receive! Your kind words about the channel are very much appreciated, but your point regarding passion is one that resonates with me all the more. Like you, I’ve been crazy about aviation, simming and flying for about as long as I can remember. It’s a real joy that I now get to share that passion with like-minded people, via the channel.
      I’m really happy to hear that you’re enjoying the content! As with this video, I try to come up with flights / scenarios that interest me personally; I hope that means others will enjoy the videos also, but perhaps just as importantly, it means (hopefully) that I will continue to enjoy making the videos for a long time to come : )
      Thanks you very much once again. Hugely appreciated!

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you very much for your kind reply. I feel greatly honored. And I mean it. The Baron is pretty well done, by the way. But I'm a fan of analog cockpits anyway. In my opinion, the best cockpits are the ones with the right mix of analog and glass screens. The new Garmin flight decks all look the same, unfortunately.

      Completely agree; give me an A310, or a classic 737 any day haha - just enough automation to make life easier, but still plenty of interesting things to look at / play with. The same in GA for sure; the G1000 is a superb piece of kit in the real world, but it does absolutely nothing for me in the sim.

    @3:28 This was a key selling point for myself. Little efficient GUI's such as this will always attract the 'systems'-nerd and set a pleasant, eye-appealing experience in the virtual cockpit. Spot on!

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому +3

      Indeed Stewie, a very slick setup from Black Square and it’s always so much nicer to be able to change configs “on the fly” (it’s rather clunky by modern standards, having to select an entirely different aircraft configuration from the main menu and then reloading the flight etc).
      Just one of the many areas where Black Square hit the nail on the head! Cheers : )

      I’m afraid I’m really not sure. Currently, I believe the Black Square products are sold exclusively through Just Flight, whether they have plans to send them over to the Marketplace, I don’t know. Given that the WASM coding issues have now been sorted on the console, it should be feasible to offer the Black Square lineup on the Xbox also. I’d imagine someone over on the Just Flight forums might know.

      It’s very true actually; there are not many products that I take an “early access” look at, that don’t subsequently receive a whole raft of changes just prior to release (and usually shortly after release as well haha). Black Square usually put out a post-release patch, but the product is eminently usable from day 1. It’s great to see! Black Square haven’t really put much of a foot wrong to date. . .

    Great video! The engine failure was a fun surprise and very refreshing in how you presented it. I love that your videos don't have some clickbait title like "DISASTER in the BARON!! Nice and focused on delivering good information and entertainment without just trying to game the algorithm.

      Haha, I know, I know - my UA-cam marketing skills are severely sub-par XD
      The UA-cam algorithm annoys me for many reasons, the above being just one of them ha. Clickbait works, without a doubt, it’s amazing how much difference a change in thumbnail, title etc can make. I don’t want to go down the path you mention, but of course I also want people to see my videos. I’m kind of hoping if I play the long game, people will come to associate my videos with a degree of quality and that will play out reasonably for the channel in the long run. Hopefully, slow and steady wins the race haha.
      If things turn south though, standby for big red arrows in the thumbnail, me in full uniform - face aghast, as many exclamation marks as I can cram into the title etc XD
      Thank you for your thoughts though Rusty, it is nice to hear that taking a more “subtle” approach doesn’t go unnoticed. All the best! : )

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому

      Indeed Jwave, it’s a bit like MSFS and manuals; apparently someone decided that such “luxuries” (that we’ve had in flight simming for decades at this point) weren’t necessary and unfortunately the trend seems to have become progressively more prevalent. Visually modelling a door can’t be all that taxing, so I’m not sure why Asobo chose to forego the effort of doing so. Unfortunately, Black Square can’t address the issue, as the external model is protected by the licensing agreement apparently.
      Cheers, all the best!

    Pity Black Square can't sell the Asobo Baron as a package with this. I'd love to buy it (despite also having the 310, 414 and Seneca) but I only have the base game.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      Indeed Roland, it is a pity. It’s also a pity that Asobo refuses to sell the Deluxe upgrade aircraft individually, as I think it would be a win-win. As I have said to a couple of other people; if you’re a “flight model guy”, stick with the Cessnas, if you’re a “systems guy” (and your wallet can take it haha), the Baron is well worthy of your consideration.

Sorry, just watching on a large screen TV, but I could not read what any of the engine instruments, I could only see the indicator (of what)? needles. Zooming in on that section of the panel would have been helpful. Hopefully you will do a video on using the six pack to navigate. Looking forward to your next video.😎

      Thanks very much Steve, glad you enjoyed it!
      The engine failure was fairly benign in terms of handling, yes. Again, the Black Square products tend to focus on systems, as opposed to the flight model, so I’m not too surprised there. The Baron also seems to have a decent amount of power on a single engine, so that certainly helped.
      I do tend to spend a lot of time on startup during my videos, I’m conscious of that. I do think it’s the best way to get a feel for systems depth though and also running through a full startup is one of the aspects of simming that I really enjoy, so it’s done for my benefit as much as anyone else’s haha. The procedures used are broadly the same as the stock Baron, however there are a lot more systems modelled on the Black Square version and the engine modelling is more refined etc (such that the correct procedures do have to be followed). As for zooming in on the panel, it’s certainly a valid request, but I like my videos to feel as though you’re sitting in the pilot’s seat and I think zooming in / out would kill that effect somewhat (there are other videos out there that show such things in more detail, so I don’t feel bad if I don’t cover it in my videos).
      I did an IFR flight in the C414 recently, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after, but certainly I could look to do some more six pack navigation in the future:

      Hi Bill,
      A very good point to raise.
      It's my understanding, that banking into a dead engine is best avoided, yes. In this particular case though, the alternative would have had me heading towards the high terrain. The aircraft should be controllable in either direction however, one should certainly be more cautious turning as I did here. It's also *very* much worth noting, these videos are not intended as *any* sort of real-world tutorial etc! : )

    Another fabulous video...thank you...and I like your professional presentation style, you are clearly very knowledgeable. Truth be told, I’m not sure on that one. I’ve never used one of these Garmin units (or any GPS) in the real world. Setting the physical transponder was force of habit as much as anything. I could be wrong, but I would imagine the two units would be linked in that regard, such that actuating one, would correctly set the other also (not sure how that might work with a non-digital transponder). I believe the Black Square cockpits are typically based on a specific real-world airframe, so presumably this config is accurate and I don’t see any issue with using one unit over the other.
      Sorry I can’t offer up a more helpful answer on that one. Cheers and all the best!

      Crikey Paul. I’d love to read the POH, but I have a full time job, a family and then essentially another full time job by way of UA-cam - I don’t have the time to read the POH of every addon I review. I was running through memory items that I haven’t used in anger for some 15 years, if I missed one step, I shall graciously forgive myself haha.
      Also (and perhaps my logic is flawed here), the engine didn’t appear to be producing any thrust when I feathered the prop, so I would imagine that the throttle position would be largely inconsequential at that point (not to say that it shouldn’t still be brought back to idle)? Further to that, I use a single throttle axis on my hardware so, it would have been impractical to split the throttles at any rate.

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi TY,
      Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed the flight!
      It would really depend on the circumstances. I know it wasn’t apparent from the video but, I seem to recall that I ran an engine fire scenario during the flight; anything with fire, you really just want to try and put the fire out / get the aircraft back on the ground as quickly as possible. For sure though, if circumstances permit and the failure wasn’t induced by mechanical damage, attempting a restart would probably be a prudent idea (though if it were me, I’d still be looking to land ASAP, whether the engine started again or not).
      In this particular case, I had planned a return to St Bart’s regardless, just for the fun of trying to land there single-engine haha : P

      Hello Andrew,

      Exactly as John mentions, the gauge indicates any difference in RPM between the two engines. If the two props are running at slightly different RPM, you can end up with an audible vibration, which can be rather annoying / uncomfortable. The gauge aids the pilot in syncing the RPM between the two props, thus resulting in happier passengers ; )

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому +1

      Spot on I think Tom. Obviously the prop did feather initially and then, given that both my prop controls are on the same axis, I inadvertently unfeathered it again, by moving the other engine back up to full rpm. I most likely wasn’t able to feather the prop again thereafter, due to the reduction in oil pressure (as you say, that appears to be modelled, which is awesome!).
      Cheers and all the best : )

      Thank you very much Christopher, I’m really glad you’re enjoying the content!
      It depends on the video / aircraft, but I tend to use real-world checklists (where available). I will occasionally omit steps from a checklist, if it’s not applicable to the sim, the system isn’t modelled on the aircraft, or indeed if I’m trying to cut down on time a bit (for example, sometimes I’ll skip systems checks etc).
      In the early days of the channel, I did use the in-sim ATC, but 1) I never found it to be very good (more of a hindrance if anything haha) and 2) I just found that opening the pop-up window tended to kill the immersion. Since I didn’t feel the default ATC added much to the experience, I tend to just edit in some real-wold ATC these days.

      I’m on the Airbus for the day job - I’ve flown a number of members of the Airbus family over the years. It’s been a fair old while since I’ve done the sort of flying demonstrated here, so it’s always good fun to get back to it in the sim : )

    Absolutely love the Black Square products, I have the King Air and the Bonanza and fly them often, but……..
    I believe they have turned around the working of the EDM800 in the Baron. It is 14 years ago I flew a TB20 in RL with this device, but I checked with UA-cam movies. I posted this finding in the Justflight forum and got a bit of a vague answer. I hope the EDM in the Baron is different and the one in the Baron will receive an update (when I am right in my opinion).
    What do you know about this device, did you ever used it in RL and compared it with the Baron and the Bonanza?

      Hi Ben,
      As I alluded to in my other reply (I realise you posed this question, before I had replied to your other comment), I’ve never seen or been near an EDM800 in my life haha! It would be a shame if Black Square has got something wrong there, but rather uncharacteristic of them to do so. If the EDM800 is spot on for the Bonanza, I don’t see why they wouldn’t have just “ported” it across to the Baron. . .
      Any updates on the situation / your findings? Obviously I can’t be of much help on this one I’m afraid haha.
      Cheers : )

    I wonder if anyone else has always thought as I have that Asobo’s Baron has a sort of stubby, boxy, or chunky rounded nose compared to the real world Barons I’ve been around. The real plane seems to have a pointier nose - not King Air pointy, but still a bit sleeker- than that in the sim. I did hope the Black Square version might rework that, but no.

      Hi Kirt,
      Well unfortunately, even if the model is inaccurate, Black Square would not be able to rework it, as that would fall outside of licensing / what they’re allowed to do.
      I tended to think the same as yourself, but as Taschi points out, not all Barons are born equal haha. There are numerous different Baron variants, including both short and long-bodied versions of the aircraft. Given the visual quality of the default aircraft overall, I’d imagine Asobo did accurately model whichever Baron they were using as a reference at the time.
      I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )

      It's obviously not the same, as you can tell by the two sets of engine instruments. But a lot of the parts are the same, as in real life. There's no point in giving every plane a newly designed virtual horizon, for example, when you can just reuse the same part. In GA aircraft, you'll see a lot of instruments reused, even between different manufacturers, because everybody buys from a handful of third-party companies like Bendix/King or Garmin.

      To some degree Rymd, yes, but that’s true to life. @rolanddutton Рік тому +1

      It depends if it's turbocharged or turbo normalised (idk what the Baron has). If TC it might climb better because you're getting a boosted mp and more power. If TN it will climb the same (depending on weight) down low, but have an advantage as you climb and the normalisation comes into play.
      I think most GA planes are TN even if they're called turbocharged.

    • @RyanbATC
      @RyanbATC Рік тому +3

      It's slightly more than a simple upgrade... I'm guessing you don't own the Bonanza based on your comment here, but this and the Bo are much more in depth than any other GA we have already. The developer has completely re-written the aircraft coding - there are many excellent features such as VOR signal degradation based on terrain, and the fact that the EGT shows a slight rise while running on a single mag? No other addon does this. Not to mention the abundant failure system if a user opts in for that. I've spent far more money over the years for trash addons that I used once and never fly again.

    • @Blxz
      @Blxz Рік тому +1

      @@RyanbATC we are getting hung up on the definition of 'simple' at this stage. Effectively what I mean is that it takes an existing plane that must be bought via one if the two upgrade packages to the base game and simply makes changes to the dashboard and flight profile and engine handling. And is being sold as a full price plane which, in my opinion, is massively overpriced.
      Had it been a fully separate downloadable model plane totally independent from existing ownership then I'd have leapt at the deal.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому +1

      Hi Blxz,
      I did somewhat touch on your point towards the end of my video; personally I would have to politely disagree, although I can see where you’re coming from.
      I suppose ultimately it comes down to how one chooses to value the product. Should the cost be based on features available, man-hours invested, or user enjoyment (I’m sure other criteria could be used as well). Arguably, when it comes to the first category, Black Square products do fall somewhat short (given the use of default sound components, flight model components and the visual external model) - charging £25 for a “default upgrade” does seem rich. Conversely, looking at the latter 2 categories, I think the product is well worth the money. Clearly a tonne of time / attention to detail has been invested into the product - the Black Square addons have some of the best systems modelling available in MSFS. In terms of user enjoyment / hours spent with the addon, I will get my money’s worth with the Bonanza, as much as any other £25 product.
      I’ve seen it mentioned often in the comments and frankly it’s true; £25 doesn’t get one a lot these days - a round of beers maybe. By that metric, I don’t think the pricing is unreasonable, but it’s a personal call at the end of the day of course!
      That’s my two pennies worth anyway haha. All the best! : )
