    Thanks for this video, Pete. I woud have liked to see how you and listen to you explain how you do your trim pass with the normal (full width) sprayer nozzle. That might have helped many people so they don't have to change sprayer nozzles in the middle of their spraying their yards - trim nozzle for the trim pass and normal nozzle forthe rest of the yard. Maybe on your next video?

    I have loved viewing your videos over the years. Spraying scares me. I have 1.34 acres minus house and so on its 54,000 ft2 treated tall fescue/KBB/rye mix here in northern Delaware. I use a northstar toe behind sprayer (21 gallon high pressure yellow hose model) and I for the life of me can’t get an even coverage or the correct amount down. I have tried calibrating. Using gps speedometers and so on. Would you happen to know if I can change out the heads (mine are 2 cheap white plastic nozzles on a boom) for a better spray nozzle? If so please assist and thank you kindly.
    Ps I’ve also renovated my yard in 2019 but I can’t kill Bermuda or both poa flavors. I’m so annoyed I’m ready to scorch it off again and rent a Ventrac and power rake. The bobcat I rented with a power rake didn’t float. So it’s a chunky mess. Do you come to DE for renovations (with irrigation)?? We make great filet steaks here! ;)

    So the walking speed is really the key variable to "calibrate" the sprayer assuming the nozzle and pressure (low/high) is the same. Right?

      Thomas yeap! The only thing that would change the calibration is if you change nozzles and the GPM it dispenses

    Is there any problem with applying these various biostimulant solutions with 1 gallon per 1000 ft^2 (I think you're going maybe 1-2 quarts per 1000 ft^2)? So I guess it'd be 3-6 oz per gallon, depending on what the individual solution directions call for to cover 1000 ft^2. I've got my calibration figured out with a 2' wide spray path rather than the 8' wide, so it takes a little longer but works (yard has a lot of nooks and crannies, and to me it's easier to figure out where I've been already using marker dye). I guess my only concern is that the stuff could be too dilute - but it seems like as long as I get the right # of ounces down in every 1000 ft^2, I should be good to go.
    Thanks for the videos, BTW. It's helpful to see somebody who's dealing with soil that's probably a lot like mine here in NC.

      Richard - that is the way I do mine too with a STIHL backpack Sprayer. I put in 4 to 5 gallons of water then 1 ounce (or per label) per gallon of water, per 1,000 square feet. Prodiamine @ 0.4oz/1000 ... the 2-4D, Drive XLR8 I go about 1oz/1000 sqft, per gallon. So, 4 gallon tank I add 4oz of a product and I dispense the 4 gallons in 10 minutes over 4,000 sqft (about 1000 sqft in 2 mins 30 seconds). Then I fill up and repeat.over 13,000 sqft so roughly 3 tanks on an application - each with its dosage rate in ounces per gallon/1,000. Is that like you are doing as well?

    Is there a big difference between a battery operated sprayer and a manual hand can pump sprayer? I have the latter already. I’d prefer not to have to spend a lot of money right now on the premium product if A manual hand can will do, especially for beginners

  • @bmvj0213

    Nothing against Pete or anyone else that says it, but we're not really "calibrating the sprayer". More accurately, we are calibrating ourselves. The only adjustment is your speeded. Tip selection and pressure adjustment are variables, but generally most of the "sprayer calibration" videos are about figuring out walking speed to spray a certain amount of carrier(water). That's calibrating me. It's just petty semantics, but I think about it every time someone says it.

    • @bmvj0213
      @bmvj0213 5 років тому

      You know what..... I'm wrong after a quick google. Calibrate doesn't really mean "adjust". It's just comparing to a standard. Carry on.

    • @localppc242
      @localppc242 5 років тому

      Don't know how much Pete's channel you have watched but he did a 5 part series on calibration. One the videos I think it was Part 2 or three they calibrating his spray truck. They had to adjust the pressure to get the amount of carrier per thousand they wanted to put down. So your statement was correct. Just depends on what equipment you are using. Edit here is the vid: ua-cam.com/video/rRoOQcYhiac/v-deo.html

      @@localppc242 I've watched Pete for about a year and I've seen that one. The word "calibrate" still doesn't really mean adjust and I'm still super critical always, yet incorrect often. It's kinda funny, yet tradgic..... WAIT! I just found a deffiniton that supports my orriginal narrative: "to adjust precisely for a particular function". I stand corrected yet again.

    This is what I ended up doing. It works good. I can run my 6000 sq ft in 4.5 gallons almost dead on every time so I just match the product for the 6000 sq ft

  • @davidfreeman8079
    @davidfreeman8079 5 років тому

    So in this example, If I can walk the whole 7500 sq ft, and only use 2 gallons of water, is the amount of water relevant as far as dilution is concerned? If the product calls for 2 oz per 1000 sq ft, I would add 15 oz of product to 241 ounces of water (2 gallons - 15oz of product) . Pete which back pack do you prefer- strom of sprayers plus, gettin ready to order one. Thanks as always

      I can do the same with Prodiamine wdg?

    Great video explaining sprayer calibrating part, but could you go into recalibrating product ratio to match what you want to put out. 7500 sq ft you mentioned you could apply 32 oz of humic. I though that was recommended at 3 to 6oz per thousand. Ok so 22.5 to 45oz for the yard. Ok quart is in the range of product per thousand subtract from 4 gal of water. Ok. How do you know when product is to viscuous for sprayer.

    • @localppc242
      @localppc242 5 років тому

      On the product they have a minimum dilution rate. Humic is 7 to 1. So that is what I have been using. But I have a battery powered Strom Sprayer and the nozzle assembly. The orifice is pretty big on the nozzle so the product flows well.

    • @GCITurf
      @GCITurf  5 років тому +2

      Nick Shively being honest with you. I pick the Strom obviously because I sell the product. The reason I like it better is because the internal parts and pump are a little better than the flo zone. I found this out through green touch. Hope this helps

  • @Young_Star

    So does it not matter if your product instructs you to mix with 1gallon of water to cover 1000sq ft? I get that you are ultimately spraying the same amount of product over the same area with less water but I thought many products needed that delusion ratio of water to work properly. So for your 7500 yard, going by the label of a basic 2-4D, it wants 6oz per gallon of water to cover 1k sq ft. Should you expect the same effectiveness if you sprayed 45oz with 4 gallons vs 7.5 gallons of water? Do you have to be much more careful about overdosing by accidentally overlapping an area when you have a "hotter" mix?

    • @GCITurf
      @GCITurf  5 років тому

      Nick Young we have never had any issues using less carrier with any products we have used

    • @Young_Star

      @@GCITurf Thanks for the quick reply. After watching a few more of your sprayer calibration videos it looks like you can go down to 1qt of water per 1k sq ft but most off the shelf products will list 1gal for the average homeowner to account for fudge factor.

    Pete,
    I just purchased the Strom 4 gallon sprayer and your sprayer assembly. I have not had a chance to calibrate this to me yet but had a question regarding the sprayer assembly. When using the N-Ext products I have read and watched videos that state that you should use a nozzle tip that sprays larger drips of water instead of just a mist. This allows the water to reach the soil and not just the blade of the grass. Is there any truth to this or will this sprayer assembly do the job with these products?
