I wonder what connection Cynthia felt to this role on a personal level. From Growing up watching a lot of old Oprah interviews, I really think people take the roles they can deeply identify with/their character evolves on a path in a way that they see in themselves.

Jason Michael Webb musical director of Broadway’s Color Purple. Why on earth could she not introduce him?! Taking all the spotlight. A true artist always acknowledges her supportive, brilliant, humble accompanist. That part she needs to learn to shine completely....to truly be a masterpiece!

Imagine being 53, and having to hear that you are worthless all those years to then hear the words of Cynthia telling you that you are not and feeling the tears, sadness and pain flowing right out of your soul. Knowing that you will hear the words worthless again soon, but that no one can take away this moment. I am going through such an enormously hard life, but it only makes me stronger. x

I moved home, far away from where people did this to me and finally my kids and I live in a country where most of the people see us as a human again, and not as a colour, nationality or strange because of not being like them. Which gives me the chance now to let go of those words, to finally accept myself for who I am and to grow from there. The pain and sadness is still there, big time and it will be something I have to learn to carry with but on the other hand it made me into who I am now and it only fuels the need of wanting to be there for others, more. God I love that she sang Mona Lisa. I feel like her silky voice when singing the high notes at the climax is more of a cry of acceptance and pride in oneself. Whereas I feel Jazmine’s version, because of her timbre, is more of a cry of wanting to be accepted and finally overcoming the need for approval of others.

TERRELL fan here as well. I agree with why she didn't want to perform that song at that conference. If my memory serves me correctly she stated that the song nearly became what she considers a "party trick" and didn't want to disrespect nor downplay the message intended in that very powerful song. I love everything about her; voice, healthy active lifestyle, and beautiful from deep within her spirit to her pretty face. I actually viewed her on the TERRELL show live the other day and enjoyed Parts 1 & 2. It was literally an emotional and beautiful experience.
