- I might just have the best, most ideal African Cichlid tank boss possible! Why? Take a look at how this Malawi Trout (Champsochromis caeruleus) carries out his duties as the tank Shot Caller!
African Cichlids can be VERY AGGRESSIVE and some tank bosses will try to kill off tank mates. That's NOT how this fish is behaving.

That's a great update 👍 Unfortunately the Livingstonii I had was 5 - 6" and colored up when I got him. He was chill & didn't bother anyone for about 10 months of having him. Then that switch flipped and he was keeping all the other fish in the corner , but aggressively. For about a week straight every day that went by another fish had more fin & body damage. And that's when I said nope you gotta go LOL. LFS got a nice donation 😎
I hear ya. I’ve taken some gems to my LFS, like that Vieja Azul, that crazy Dragonblood and a Kiwingi that was getting beat up too much. Our loss, someone else’s gain🤷🏼♂️

Told you on the the livestream last week the trout wasn’t having it 😂 my tank boss is still my lethrinops oculatus even though I have a lemon Jake and a larger mylochromis in the tank. Who would of thought lol never a dull moment with African cichlids. That trout is amazing.
An oculatus as a boss is a surprise indeed. I’m surprised mine has survived in my tank. Maybe they’re the bad boys of the Lethrinops world🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️. “Never a dull moment” is so true🤣👍🏻
@@BenOchart I’ll have to send you a video sometime when he’s fired up if your interested. He really makes me wonder from time to time if lethrinops are as timid as we think they are. Of course this has just been my experience and like you say in your videos every fish has its own unique temperament.
In my mbuna tank I have two dominant fish who have claimed territory on each side of the tank. They respect each other’s area and remain within their own side of the tank, they often move sand, find females for spawning, and protect their areas. The Red Zebra will frequently break up the ever dueling Auratus males when the fights occur on his side. Funny to watch
So territorial! It’s a good thing Lake Malawi is enormous 🤣

I had an awesome tank boss at one point. A 9-10” Moorii (Dolphin) broke up fights and kept the peace. Sadly after he passed away, I had nothing but chaos. After 2 years of him being gone, I had enough of basically what was happening in this video but for longer periods of the day. More like 80% of the time one fish owned 50% of the tank. And it didn’t matter if I removed the bully or not cause another would take its place. I sold them all and got a small colony of Frontosa. Fingers crossed lol

My red zebra is a good tank boss... He just pushes the other fish away from his space and even breaks up an occasional battle that sometimes happens between my ob zebra and maingano who want that #2 spot.....
Sounds like a perfect tank boss. My Venustus, Vinny, used to break up fights. “Take it outside Bud!” 🤣
