I have done a few jobs by hand nailing. I have also worked for others who require only hand nailing. Great skill to learn. I'm slow at it but I can do it. Good job Sir.
I have seen alot of these with titles like fastest roofer ever this is the first one that could come work with me. Stepping not racking and good nail placement not just throwing them im a roofer and unlike most so is this guy .some people move really fast but get nothing done the trick is to make it look like your not working hard but still end up with 10 sq more than everyone else
Brother the trick iS.. I MOVE really fast& efficiently/effectively, you're method WILL NEVER cut it up here in MICHIGAN FYI, you ARE not a real 💯%k ROOFER, stop proclaiming,I literally could only watch 1f**kin min of this clown sending nails flying everywhere,. . Was about 14 years old when my Dad showed me how to do this and I sure got some sore left hand set finger tips. We aligned the right side with the hammer.....it rarely left my right hand from what I can remember. Had a blade on it....And an adjustable "gauge" screw. I think he still has one of the hammers. Great memories - I'm 47 now.
Spent the first ten years of my life, starting at age 16 doing this. Became a licensed contractor at 21. If you know roofing, it is something of a life long curse! I still get asked to roof things at age 73 sometimes!
Name's Colt Evans. Job well done sir. I been roofin for about 15 years. I'm 34 years old. My boss makes us hand drive everyday. You only hit your finger once that's great. My Forman seems to hit his finger frequently lol. That nail set trick at the beginning I've never seen that before. Awesome
I give ya credit. I'm a handyman on the side. About to do a double wide for my parents. Gonna start out hand nailing then use the gun when I have enough
Hand-nailed is the best. Reason being that pneumatic nail guns always cause some amount of damage to the shingles. Somebody needs design a proper roofing nail gun that has zero chance of blow through.
That’s freaking cool. I love when I see people going back and seeing the original tools of the trade. I bet a lot of roofers these days wouldn’t even know where to begin with a hammer and nail
So let's see the video of how you set & drive every nail in two swings. Everybody is a master roofer on you tube. This guy isn't slow & his nail placement is exactly where it needs to be.
Good work. Get yourself a ajc nail stripper & you won't have to keep reaching in to the pouch for nails. Also - it looks like you're using 2" nails? You'd have a easier go if they were a bit smaller. Solid work none the less. 🤘
what is this method of roofing called? i saw other videos where the guy had to tuck one shingle under the other, seemed odd...this guy doesn't have that problem?
It's pyramid style or step. The best way to install. The other is square or box style which places the shingle seams over one another "every other one" and voiding warranty. Its a faster way to install shingles but is not the correct way.You will be prone to more leak possibilities and blow offs
I'm almost 63 and could still smoke this dude! A couple pointers: Take a second and spread your shingles a little better. NEVER SET DOWN YOUR HAMMER!!! NEVER!!! (unless your cutting or spreading shingles) Why reach for the furthest (right end) nail, when you can more easily pick it up on your next pass?? You're way out of position when reaching that far. Also, your placement of that nail is all over the map. Does anyone friggin' gauge every shingle anymore!??? Like others have said...you could certainly be using a shorter nail. Years ago, an old dude (about my current age:) told me I hammered like lightning! I took that as a compliment, and said "ya, you think so?" He replied "yup, you never hit twice in the same spot" Think that one over....
Here's something for you to chew on toots: "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth to a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination to the Lord thy God." Deuteronomy 22:5
That is a good roofer. No misplaced nails in key ways for potential leaks. I would pay extra for this quality work.

Exactly. Who cares if you’re fast if you’re doing it wrong. This guy wasn’t a whole lot slower with a hammer than I am with a gun 😅

Well said
'Twas the way I started. I don't give a crap about "fastest" this or that. I want the job done right. The first time...
Very cool!

Alot of thoughts run through your head when doing this all day!! Daydreamer lol
We hand nail everyday. This a great to watch. I'm gonna use that nail trick for sure.
Expert ! Buen trabajo
Only thing I would do different is, I'd have my portable Ridgid radio up on the roof!

love it !!!! my guy!!!!!!!!!!!
exactly how i started!!!!!! hand nailing

It's all about technique I use a regular ol Bostitch and my nails don't blow through or go in crooked it's all in the way u swing the gun
I agree
Hitting those nails for five times and driving it through the shingle and good for him either
@@thewho6743 when you get good, you'll hit the nail 2 to 3 times..
Reminds me of watching my great uncle roof. Was a master carpenter man could he move.
I use the 24oz Plumb to this day cuz company I roofed for required hand bangs. They stopped making em tho, bummer
3:44 ouch that hurts! My fingernails stay blue...lol!
😅
Those longer nails are harder to flip
plot twist, he’s actually 26. that construction life is tuff. jk tho, good work sir , a true pro

I started roofing with my dad wen 14.. I'm now 31 and I only use hammer and nails...

Probably a good witpro occupation seeing as you will for sure lose all fingerprints 😂
I just finished hand nailing 3 tab shingles on a whole side like this. All i got to say is i got a lot of respect for people back then.
Right o and dont waste money on 3 tabs

Old??
4 nails? Hack
Try shorter nails. Holy crap. That will be a shitty rip in 20 years.
Worked with a few guys who hand nail, don't get me wrong, it's good work ethic but finding a million nails scattered all around the property is shit 😂
Can someone say Carpel Tunnel!
I've never seen Landmarks packaged like that.
Thats the only way ive seen certain teed shinlge come
