Important Tip! Taking the switch out is easy!, but...you MUST depress the brake pedal as you are insterting the new switch, then turn clockwise to lock it in. I know because I busted up my hands withe simple installation is the reverse!
I have this problem the #15 fuse I took out and drove down to oreily to purchase new one but on the way there my traction control light and another light (abs?)came on lol so after I arrived to oreily I just put my #15 fuse back into the fuse box and both lights turned back off and just went home lol so I assumed my #15 fuse works fine lol so I think my brake switch is the issue ty for the tip I will keep that in mind! 🤙🏽
Is that the button switch that can be seen on the steering panel at the rear of the steering wheel? We have been trying to figure out what that button is called because it dropped down inside the steering panel on our 2007 Jeep Commander limited 😢
Well the car I'm working on has the opposite problem. The brake lights are staying on. It's on a 2014 jeep compass. Replaced the brake switch and they stay on. It's really annoying l🤬😂

Well it was very informative except I couldn't see how u actually pushed the green tabs out cause I can't get mine to move at all n I've tried everything an feel like I'm going to brake the tabs
Looking for guidance, driver's side tail light (all lights) comes on, passengers not (no lights). If switch them with and plug in opposite the passengers tail light now works with the drivers side plug, and the driver's side light does not work with the passengers side plug. All lights work when plugged into drivers, none in passengers. And one more twist, the brake light on the passenger works but not tail light and the reverse light works also.. Any thoughts? Thanks for any reply.
@@robmassung2387 I saw a video on this subject. It was corrosion on the connection where the bulb goes. He said you could clean it of or replace the piece.. very very simple
Yea in the future destroy the switch that you’re throwing away not the connector thats part of your harness lol. I stuck a flat blade in those little slots on the sides of the switch and twisted and was able to pry the housing up and over the green tabs.
So I did all of this and when I took the break lite switch out, I put it back in and now no lights come in and the Jeep won’t start at all, the only problem was the break lights and now nothing will even start, and no electricity throughout anything, any idea what’s going on?
Sorry I'm so late to this, but any attempt to remove and reinstall the brake switch will cause it to fail. Even a brand new switch. When you have a new switch be careful not to push the plunger in at. It's a self adjusting switch and you must let the brake pedal do the first compression of the plunger. Doing it incorrectly normally causes the traction control lights to come on, but anything the switch handles can be effected. I reverse the foot on an Irwin clamp and use it to push and hold the brake pedal down. Push the pedal way down because you don't want the switch to get depressed by the brake pedal during installation. Putting the switch in place is exactly how shown in the video. Once the switch is in place and turned to lock, I hold the brake pedal with one hand release the clamp holding it down so I can slowly let it up, and then pull up on it after it stops on its own. You'll hear a fairly solid click, and you're done. I've heard of people installing them in other ways, but that is the only way I've been able to make it work. I went through several new switches because either I or the parts guy fiddled with the switch and plunger before installation. Installing the switch is a one time thing, if you don't get it right or try to reuse an old one they simply won't work right. It took me 3 switches to figure out that they really are that sensitive and I got it right. I know I'm a year late but that's my experience.
I have a very specific problem my lights work but when I put on my high beams to drive at night the back does not work only a top red light so no turn signal and no break lights for my 2008 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo
I’m having a similar problem. 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. When I turn my lights on the back tail lights, turn signal, and break lights all stop working. They work fine if the lights are off.

I replaced my 3rd brake light w a brand new smoked out housing w led in it and still no light so I’m gonna have to try hit junkyard and grab this switch out from the wreck yard there’s 2 2005 jgc laredo here in Vegas @pic n pull $1 entrance and probably cost $1 or $2 for the item if not my final solution is purchase a brand new brake switch from amazon $10 🤷🏽

@@christopherlee1673 yes, the rest was easy, twist the old one 45 degrees and it popped out, new one goes in just as easy. The only hard part was #1 the harness has a Christmas tree clip holding everything forward near the fire wall, it takes about 50lb of force to get it to release (sideways of course) #2 getting the wire harness to unlock from the switch. If memory serves me right the grey clip needs to be pulled down in the direction of the wires, twisting a flat screwdriver makes this not too difficult. Good forehead mounted flashlight will be your friend.
Why would only one brake light not work? It’s lit when the lights are on but doesn’t get bright like the other side. Bulb is good. Fuse is good. Connections aren’t rusted/ new. The bulb light up when the lights turn on but doesn’t get bright! Wtf

Turn the ignition to start the engine and the brake pedal will be able to move. You only need to do that to put the switch back in.

Well the car I'm working on has the opposite problem. The brake lights are staying on. It's on a 2014 jeep compass. Replaced the brake switch and they stay on. It's really annoying l🤬😂

Hey kudos on the video. Any ideas about this switch has something to do with the cruise control malfunction? My wj only turn cc light on in the dash with pedal brake pressed down.
Stepping on the brake cancels the cruise control, so yes, it could be either the switch, or switch adjustment.

Looking for guidance, driver's side tail light (all lights) comes on, passengers not (no lights). PMC05 no, but I replaced it with a led light and it worked. I guessing it was the light that stopped working.

You really didn't do anybody any favors by not showing how to disconnect the wiring harness, that's really the only hard part of the job

I got it by prying from the top with a small flat screwdriver.
It came up without breaking the grey plastic.

It was the emergency flasher relay.
Sorry - it was actually the brake light switch I replaced. After replacing the issue was resolved.
