Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is Totally Awesome Dude!

  • In 1989, a modestly budgeted time travel comedy called Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure hit theaters and quickly became a sleeper hit. Grossing more than four times its $10 million budget, it made a star out of Keanu Reeves, who pays Ted “Theodore” Logan opposite Alex Winter’s Bill S. Preston Esq. A big-hearted and surprisingly intelligent comedy, it launched an unlikely franchise that includes two sequels (to date), two tv series, a comic book series, video games and more. But how did a movie that sat on the shelf for two years become such a hit? And how did two little-known actors end up nabbing such iconic roles? We’ll tell you all about it in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure Revisited, written, narrated and edited by Ric Solomon!

That shit was so WHOLESOME! It's one of these rare movies that presented us with a very positive universe, where things end up pretty well, where there isn't all too much conflict, and it was very refreshing and made me warm & fuzzy inside!

Socrates only said two words (Socrates, geek) in the entire movie, but was the most hilarious character in the film. The more you watch of him, the more gold you find. The bow he gives to the German aristocrats when Beethoven is abducted makes me laugh my ass off every time!

I saw this movie too late in my life (despite being 26 now), but that doesn't take away from how hilarious I thought it was the first time I watched it. I'll have to come back to this, now, trilogy soon. Excellent

Considering the goofy plot and hokey low budget 80s CGI, this movie was truly saved by the pairing of Keanu and Alex, just try to imagine the movie with anyone else in those roles... it could have easilybeen most heinous

😆 'Bogus Journey' is actually my favorite of the two but both movies mean so much to me. 'Excellent Adventure' is such a great buddy antics story that is filled with a lot of heart. Someone used wholesome to describe it and I gotta freaking agree! Even 'Bogus Journey' has major tenacity about it!

My first exposure to Bill & Ted was the cartoon. I had no idea that the cartoon only existed because of the movie. It wasn't until Bogus Journey was about to be released in 1992 that I actually knew there was a movie and that it was a sequel. I then saw the Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey and loved them both way, way more than the cartoon.
I didn't like the cartoon all that much as I hadn't seen the movies, and so I didn't really relate to it, and I just couldn't get into it as a kid. I think I would have liked it a lot more if I had seen the first movie before the cartoon. But with that said, the movies are amazing and are some of my favourite comedy movies of all time.

Saw this movie opening weekend in 1989. My life what a great time to be alive back then. We knew how to be kids, be safe, and not record or document every single move we made growing up. LOL and for the longest time, when asked who is Joan of Arc.........I always thought he said "know his wife?" and not Noah's wife. LOL

I still enjoy watching it. My favorite line is still "Put them in the Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden! Excellent!".
This movie holds up as good today as Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Dazed & Confused, American Graffiti & The Breakfast Club among others. I'm going to watch it today because of this video. BTW, the Iggily Piggily is based on The Trough from the old Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. When I finished one the wait staff would announce that I had finished the Trough and to give me a great big oink! Then they gave me a pin that said I made a pig of myself at Farrell's.

I am among those who like the original better than Bogus Journey. I like both, but the original is more fun to me. I liked the concept of "..."Face the Music", but felt it was too derivative of the first two, with the film spending time both in Hell and with time travel. (Though I did like the idea that it was their daughters who were actually to lead the ultimate song to bring universal peace. Given their natural affinity to love and acceptance combined with their easygoing nature; I could see Bill and Ted willingly and enthusiastically stepping aside to help their little girls.)

The thing is, Napoleon could almost be considered a hero if you are an American for two big reasons. (1) he kept the Brits too busy during the War of 1812 to give them a chance to give us their A-game, and finally the Brits made a truce with us because he was such a major headache for them and we were a mere distraction in comparison, and (2) he sold the US all that land from the Louisiana Purchase for a mere pittance; doubling the US's territory at a stroke and making possible the dreams of Manifest Destiny of spreading from coast to coast. For those reasons, his rep in the US is nowhere near as dire as it was (and still is) in the UK. The fact that he had imperial ambitions in North America as well is virtually forgotten.
