Nutting turned a proud franchise into a major league farm team, and even when they finally had a competitive roster for 2-3 years because draft picks bloomed and their salvage projects actually worked....he still wouldnt spend money to get a few premium players they needed to actually compete. And then blew it up and they're trash again. And won't sell it to people who actually want to spend real money and compete because it makes him money. Guys a cancer and I hope to Christ at this point the city refuses a new stadium and they just leave.
One thing will never make sense to me: If you're an owner and all you care about is money, then why wouldn't you do everything you can for your team to win? A winning team brings fans to the games, it boosts ratings which means more tv revenue, it sells more merch, it attracts more sponsors, etc. Heck, a winning team will also make the city you live in like you more, which will really help when you need funding for a new stadium (see: Seattle Mariners). I'll never understand why guys like John Fisher or Dave Tepper (NFL) only care about money and yet don't try to field a winning team, which would make them a lot of money.
Put the cardinals ownership is this class to!! After all the news of what has came out in the last decade you should do a video about them too. Greed and their downfall!!!
The owner of the A's hands down wins as the "person who should NOT own a sports franchise" award....but Reinsdorf takes the cake...the way he has let a good franchise fall off the rails with his cheapness....and THEN has the audacity to demand the taxpayers watching his completely trashed team....build him a billion dollar ballpark....quoting Mike Myers' Dr Evil : "uh, how bout NO"
As a Rockies fan, so many of the criticisms about Jerry Reinsdorf and Arte Moreno apply directly to Dick Monfort. He's literally on record saying that he knows exactly what to do and doesn't need to consider any new approaches. Ugh.
the plane thing with the white sox seems like a "paying for gatorade" kind of thing where it just shows all the players how cheap the owners really are, like they won't pay for a league average level of nice plane they're not going to pay for a deal for you
Is there a way to bridge players, fans and executives who love the game and COME TOGETHER to keep making John Fisher’s life and MLB miserable until we force a sale of the Oakland A’s??? Nothing worth doing comes easy but together we can do a lot!
Jerry Jones came to mind here for me (I know this video is about baseball owners but this content can go to other sports). Thinks he's never wrong and that he's the only one who knows what he's doing when the Cowboys haven't been in a NFC Conference Championship, let alone a Super Bowl, since the 90's. Manchester United is another.
Jerry Jones has given over much of the control to his son, and he may not know best always, but he never lacks for trying. He doesn't refuse to spend, doesn't refuse to ever adjust. The teams defensive and offensive philosophies have changed multiple times since he bought the team. He's a very good team owner overall, even with his faults.
@@snerdterguson Read what he said about being GM a couple months ago. He hasn't given up much. He thinks he can do it all himself and is the only one who can do so.
William DeWitt Jr is now cutting Cardinals payroll blaming this season's historic low attendance, at a time when more money needs to go the right places to bring the fans back.
I was pretty sure he meant the team plane was a no show so they had to take a charter. But the what he thought was a charter was the team plane. Not a "show plane"
Absolutely despise Arte Moreno. Was even more pissed when he announced he was selling the team then reneged. I will partially defend him on one thing but only partially. He wanted to rename the team the Los Angeles Angels. He thought it would open a larger market and was a throwback to the original name of the team. I think that’s stupid because they aren’t in Los Angeles and he could’ve reverted back to the California Angels if he wanted a larger market. The “of Anaheim” part he was forced to adopt. The city sued him and the courts made him keep the name Anaheim in the team name. I kind of respect, very little respect, him for giving the finger to the city and renaming the team regardless.
Trevor, there's another owner you missed, Dick Monfort!!! Screw him dude he makes us Rockies fans life suck, pls talk about him, yesterday at Charlie Blackmon's pre game cearmony the whole stadium booed Dick Monfort when his name was metioned by the announcer.
Arte Moreno oversaw the signing of Vlad and Bartolo Colon in which, Vlad won an MVP the year later and Bart won the Cy Young in 05 and I feel that gassed up his ego so hard, he never considered the farm. They had a top ranked farm from the early 00s until 2009ish and he probably never considered retooling it at any point and thought he could keep signing big names and trading the few prospects they had for rentals to continue competing while holding off a rebuild and it's no surprise every big name has bit them in the ass at this point. The farm thinned out and has been ranked at the bottom of the league for the past 15 years. You'd think he'd realize it's smart to invest in future assets? Guess it isn't flashy enough for him. Hell, him telling the FO to not trade Shohei last year proves the guy hasn't learned a single fuckin lesson and was trying to milk any bit of ticket sales that he could just for the guy to not play the final month of the season. Could've gotten SOMETHING for him. Maybe not an insane haul but maybe a top prospect or two which would've been massive for such a starved farm, but Arte prioritized immediate ticket sales over the future. He said he didn't want to be known as the owner who traded Shohei but now he's known as the guy who let him walk and proceeded to have the worst Angels season of all time. He will never stop meddling for as long as he owns the team.
You are way too kind to the Pohlads. Aaron Gleeman has a pretty scathing piece on them in The Athletic. They managed to take a pretty high point in fan morale at the end of last season and absolutely kill it with their cost cutting.
Arte Moreno has said publicly he refuses to pay pitchers because they only play once every 5 games. That should tell you all you need to know. He is not nearly as baseball savvy as he thinks he is and he continually overrides the GM and the rest of the baseball people to make stupid decisions (cough cough Anthony Rendon). . He inherited a really good team with a good farm system so he was able to coast on that for a while. Every Angels fan I know hates him and wishes he would sell the team.
Need to get your take on Dick Monfort too. John Fisher, Art Moreno, and Jerry Reinsdorf are all terrible, but at least you can understand their motives. Monfort is like the Joker of MLB owners, nothing he does makes any fucking sense. Trade Nolan Arenado to cut payroll? Cool. Let’s spend just as much money on an injury prone Kris Bryant. The decisions are just bizarre, and true Rockies fans are absolutely fed up.
Trevor, hasn't Joe Pohlad totally tanked the team though this year with nothing but "right-sizing" talk and action? Feel like they hamstrung anyone who they brought in that might be a baseball person by limitation. I mean after winning a first series in 2 something years and the first thing he says is before the season starts is they are lowering payroll to right-size the business. wtf. What baseball person is going to with when you have more than half the rotation be rookie starters that can only go 4 and then bullpen it because ownership says nah? Joe was given the Twins helm from his uncle. Like blows my mind. We get a pair of socks and a shirt for a birthday -- the man gets a baseball team and is running it into the ground. Can you do a show on the owners WHO GET IT. The good ones. The best.
These ownership complaints sound like the same problem we have the government rules us, rather than the government is supposed to work for the people. The World id upside-down.
how does this guy have the bulk of his career wasted by the Pohlads and then not sound off on them? Especially with everything they have pulled over 40 years let alone this year?!?! He has made so many points n this video alone and choses to ignore them outside of one apologetic excuse.
I don't understand why sports in general use an ownership model that allows one person to make a team their personal pet investment project. A team is a TEAM that requires many people working together to succeed, and that should apply to the top tier of ownership too. I'm a Pirates fan and I hate that one rich fool gets to personally drive a franchise that affects thousands of people and represents an entire city.
Except Mark Cuban isn’t an idiot like the wearer of ear diapers or a conspiracy theorist like Elon Musk or a degenerate pervert like Vince McMahon. At least that I know of.
Vince McMahon is a literal insane lunatic in every which way. Sigmund Freud would jump out a 10th floor window before he’d ever figure out Ole Vince McMadman. Elon Musk is perpetually 14. Mark Cuban’s smack downs of Skip Bayless is must see tv. Can Trump even formulate a coherent sentence. What is a Projectedadiddifiedabedeeehh??
Arte is really clueless when it comes to who he should sign. Everyone thought he was going to sign Adrian Beltre but I read he refused to give him a 7th year. The Rangers signed him and got a Hall of Fame third baseman the Angels needed for years. He wastes money on players he doesn't need and refuses to spend money on players he needs.
It's funny, because you assume most of these guys know what it takes to run a successful business. They need to hire the right people and change with the times. Then they own a baseball team and that all goes out the window. They are still selling a Blackberry act like it is an IPhone 16 because the revenue sharing makes them profitable.
Sell both The Bulls and White Sox. Jerry lost his touch. He's not owner like he was in the 1990s when the Bulls were winning NBA finals 91-93 and 96-98. And when The Sox won the World Series in 2005.
You need to see what’s happening with the Twins these days and maybe you might see that the Pohlads are about as bad as the guys you’ve talked about in this video
Nutting is the worst. He screwed players on their incentives again - how is that encouraging? Btw, i get the point with the Hay’s hitting coach issue. When it happened, everyone here was 100% behind Key on this. However as it played out, his hitting never did improve so it became a bad example for Nutting criticism. So i’m keeping it fair here because the real criticism in that situation should fall on where the Pirates spent their money.
It's depressing that baseball has so many crappy owners that the Castellinis (Reds) and their "Well, where else you gonna go?" fatalism doesn't even register in the discussion.
Arte doesn't even deserve credit for the Angels being good through the 2000s and into 2013. Almost all of that was the good will built from the Disney ownership.

Haven't won a division since 1992 and haven't won a playoff series since 1979. It's just embarrassing at this point.
Hey Trevor, the discord link in the videos description isn’t working for some reason
John Stanton somewhere smiling he didn’t make the list
Imagine Mike Trout's legacy if he had an invested owner. People outside of baseball usually don't know who he is.
They angels could also use Bauer!
The owner of the A's hands down wins as the "person who should NOT own a sports franchise" award....but Reinsdorf takes the cake...the way he has let a good franchise fall off the rails with his cheapness....and THEN has the audacity to demand the taxpayers watching his completely trashed team....build him a billion dollar ballpark....quoting Mike Myers' Dr Evil : "uh, how bout NO"
Every owner needs to talk to John Middleton about how to be liked by a fanbase. Guy makes it look easy
As a Rockies fan, so many of the criticisms about Jerry Reinsdorf and Arte Moreno apply directly to Dick Monfort. He's literally on record saying that he knows exactly what to do and doesn't need to consider any new approaches. Ugh.
They could use Bauer too!
Trevor dropping a 'Silicon Valley' reference.
the plane thing with the white sox seems like a "paying for gatorade" kind of thing where it just shows all the players how cheap the owners really are, like they won't pay for a league average level of nice plane they're not going to pay for a deal for you
Is there a way to bridge players, fans and executives who love the game and COME TOGETHER to keep making John Fisher’s life and MLB miserable until we force a sale of the Oakland A’s???
Since fans are the ones paying for stadiums, they should be owning the team as well
Absolutely despise Arte Moreno.
As a Cincinnati Reds fan, I am not a fan of our Ownership
The reds could also use Bauer!
Dare I ask what that sponsor line at the bottom of the video is for…
Jerry not bringing in any new people in the front office is his mo yeah. Does the same thing with the Bulls.
Pohlads?
Came here as a Twins fan and is shocked to see they missed the list.
@@darrinthurston3308they are HORRIBLE
Arte Moreno SUCKS! Thank you for calling out that POS. Hope all these owners have to sell asap.
Just about an hour after this video went out the giants replaced Farman with Buster Posey lol
The pohlads hate minnesota
No they don't, they just care more about $1 than every Minnesotan combined lol
i’ve heard enough.
trevor may for commissioner.
Do GM's next... :)
Give 'em Hell Trevs
Do the owners have insurance policies that reimburse them when you guys throw your elbow out and require the TJ?
I mean I hate every owner. They all sided with John Fisher so that tells me all I need to know.
The best.
These ownership complaints sound like the same problem we have the government rules
us, rather than the government is supposed to work for the people. The World id upside-down.
Sadly, Shohei never made the playoffs with the Halos.
No John Stanton is crazy
But the White Sox won 93 games three years ago, and had a winning record the year before. So Reinsdorf suddenly became an idiot?
GOD BLESS
how does this guy have the bulk of his career wasted by the Pohlads and then not sound off on them? Especially with everything they have pulled over 40 years let alone this year?!?! He has made so many points n this video alone and choses to ignore them outside of one apologetic excuse.
I don't understand why sports in general use an ownership model that allows one person to make a team their personal pet investment project. A team is a TEAM that requires many people working together to succeed, and that should apply to the top tier of ownership too.
I'm a Pirates fan and I hate that one rich fool gets to personally drive a franchise that affects thousands of people and represents an entire city.
News Flash: That's how a lot of business owners operate beyond sports: Look at Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Vince McMahon and even Mark Cuban
The white sox could also use Trevor bauer he can still pitch & would cost nexta nothing!
Bruce Sherman
Dick Monfort is a terrible owner, but players seem to like playing there and play hard everyday.
Pohlad's?
It's funny, because you assume most of these guys know what it takes to run a successful business. They need to hire the right people and change with the times. Then they own a baseball team and that all goes out the window.
They are still selling a Blackberry act like it is an IPhone 16 because the revenue sharing makes them profitable.
Shouldn't have signed Rowdy in the first place
Put bill Dewitt on there too
Arte is the same but the Angels have Trout to hide the fact they suck
Are there any owners that deserve credit for how they operate? Or are they all like this.
Millionaire ball players…….. men of the people? 😅
Sell both The Bulls and White Sox. Jerry lost his touch. He's not owner like he was in the 1990s when the Bulls were winning NBA finals 91-93 and 96-98. And when The Sox won the World Series in 2005.
You need to see what’s happening with the Twins these days and maybe you might see that the Pohlads are about as bad as the guys you’ve talked about in this video
i'll be honest i don't like the ricketts family from taking cubs baseball away from wgn
Cards fan hanging on here for dear life. Mo must GO! He and DeWittless the turd are ruining this franchise.
It's depressing that baseball has so many crappy owners that the Castellinis (Reds) and their "Well, where else you gonna go?" fatalism doesn't even register in the discussion.
Could you also comment on the castellini family nepotism for the reds and their terrible “where ya gonna go” attitude
Fisher and Reinsdorf deserve to be banned from MLB
@PrimarySweeper13 With his current age and what could happen to him any minute now it's already probably too late for Jerry Reinsdorf.
Arte doesn't even deserve credit for the Angels being good through the 2000s and into 2013. Almost all of that was the good will built from the Disney ownership.
When you brought up the pirates owner being a penny pincher, all I could think was rowdy getting DFA last week :((
Spend Nutting
Win Nutting
The nutting special is that DFA move combined with having a player that generically bad as your starter to begin with.
41-121-- worst team in the modern era-- must say as a cubs fan this is satisfying to see
They did Rowdy Tellez dirty. Fukd him over 200k. I travel to Mets away games but I’ll never spend a penny in Pittsburgh again.
Bunch of gray hairs with sandbox money fighting over who has the bigger castle
