    The Sheepherders and the Powers of Pain were the only dominant teams of the 1980s to never win a World title....why was this?!?!😂❤😊🎉

      They were off USA well before this angle was shot. It was a Scott Casey-Bobby Jaggers angle many months prior to this that allegedly got them pulled off USA.

    • @lakebay972
      @lakebay972 5 місяців тому

      No, the reason SCW got pulled from USA Network because they couldn't afford the $7000/week television fee. Vince McMahon pays SCW's outstanding debt which earned them the TV time for WWF and the rest was history. Oh, and Vince promised USA there'd be no blood.

    At 3:49, we see that Boyd has actually bladed (!), even though all he took was a shot from the flat part of the chair on the top of his head. There's no way that should have drawn blood.
    A lot of wrestling characters are just people playing exaggerated versions of their real personality. Boyd was described as the kind of guy who liked to start each day off with a smile, just to get it over with. And that's just the character he played on TV. It was a big contrast to Luke and Butch, who were both happy-go-lucky goofball types. The Boyd and Miller version of the Sheepherders could never have been the Bushwhackers in the WWF. Boyd didn't fit the role. But he was good playing the evil mastermind.

    I saw this when it first broadcast. It's still hilarious listening to Steve Stack do play by play commentary while he watches his boss being attacked.
    The reference to Boyd's leg being bad is that he legitimately broke it in an auto accident the year before. It couldn't have been as bad as they're making out, as he did return to wrestling later. But it was used in storylines. When The Sheepherders arrived in SCW, it was Boyd and Williams, not Williams and Miller like everyone knows. Butch had left the team to go back home, then returned when Boyd was hurt.
    Brooks isn't the only one who kayfabe "re-injured" his leg. Eric Embry did it later.

      @@jeigheff I believe this led to a match between Boyd and Blanchard. Blanchard had been a top contender in his day, but wasn't in great shape at this time. Boyd was also in bad shape after his car accident (but not nearly as bad as they made out to be, as he returned to in-ring action later). So the hook for the match was that it was between two guys who were in bad shape (!), which wouldn't sound all that great if one of them hadn't been Blanchard, a guy who once fought Lou Thesz to an hour long draw.
      I don't remember how the match came out, but probably Blanchard put Boyd over, as Boyd still had a future, while Blanchard was glad just to be coming out for one more match.

    • @jeigheff
      @jeigheff Рік тому

      @@GraemeCree I saw the show where Boyd and Blanchard were supposed to have fought! Another match was taking place before Boyd and Blanchard were supposed to get in the ring. While that match was going on, Boyd ambushed Blanchard with a metal chair outside the ring. I knew it wasn't real, but I couldn't believe how many times Boyd hit Blanchard with the chair while Blanchard was lying motionless on the floor. The whole thing was really cruel and brutal. The camera focused on Boyd's assault instead of the legitimate match going on in the background. (I wonder why?!) When it was time for Boyd's and Blanchard's match to start, Boyd jumped in the ring and acted like he was ready to fight. The camera caught Boyd's tough-guy swagger and Blanchard's unconscious body lying outside the ring at the same time. Everyone knew (that is, at least everyone watching on TV) that Boyd had chickened out of a legitimate match by ambushing Blanchard instead. Wow. I wish I could tell you what happened after that, but I can't remember.

      @@jeigheff Did you see it on TV, or live? Sounds like Blanchard wasn't in good enough shape for even a short match. I remember them talking about it afterwards, but never saw this.

      From those, Jim Cornette and Jimmy Hart weren't in-ring competitors, at least frequently. JJ Dillon, Freddie Blassie and Bobby Heenan were tough as nails for real. In fact, look for a match between Lord Alfred Hayes vs Bobby Heenan in the AWA. It could blow many of today's matches away.

      That's stupid. Vince probably added a good 10/12 years to their careers! They made a lot more money and didn't have to punish themselves! They got commercial deals and were on the TV show family matters. Then afterwards when they were done with the wwf,they kept calling themselves the Bushwhackers. They never went back to the sheepherders! They're on record saying they loved it! It was the best thing they ever did.
