Hey not exactly related to the video but yesterday I pulled apart a friend's MacBook air m2 that they had spilled oil into and cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol. When I put it back together trackpad and keyboard stopped working (although keyboard backlight still works). Admittedly I have never pulled a MacBook air apart before and in the process pulled the thin end of the trackpad cable out of the trackpad and then pushed it back in. I was wondering if you (or anyone else more experienced than me) might have any ideas on what I've done wrong and if this is fixable without replacing parts. Keyboard and trackpad worked before I opened it up btw. Thanks in advance for your time.

If lucky, broke the cable, if unlucky, broke the connector on the system board. Unplug trackpad cable to see if keyboard works without it plugged in. If it does, plug in trackpad cable properly to test again. Might need to replace cable, should be cheap. Remember to always unplug battery before working inside the computer.

Thank you very much for the reply. I unplugged the trackpad cable from the logic board but unfortunately the keyboard still doesn't work. Backlight is still on. Is it worth trying to replace the cable or at this point is it an issue with the connector on the logic board. I also don't quite understand why disconnecting the trackpad would fix the keyboard are they not connected at different connection points?

The signal sent by the trackpad can cause issues with the keyboard. But that doesnt seem to be the case. Unplug the keyboard and plug in the trackpad, turn it back on to test. This would be easier to test if you also have an external USB keyboard to use while the internal keyboard is unplugged. Unfortunately, with liquid spills, the damage can be delayed. Disassembling and reassembling could have trigger the short somewhere. All you can do now is locate the failed component and replace it.

Ahhh I see. I disconnected what I think is the keyboard connector (backlight was off) from underneath that little trapdoor looking component and plugged the trackpad back in but unfortunately it still doesn't work. Do you think it's the keyboard that's dead at this point and what should be my next step here is it just replace keyboard? If so do you recommend any suppliers in particular?

You will likely have to replace the system board. That's just the way it goes with liquid spill. Things can go awry very quickly and easily. But to properly run a diagnostics, you will need to go into diagnostics mode and run a MRI (Mac Resource Inspector (EFI)). As for the actual replacement, if you want to do it yourself: support.apple.com/self-service-repair. If not, uBreakiFix has lots of locations across the US. Not sure where you are located.

Mine was lggy then it dies, do you reckon it's trackpad or something on logic board?

The information you have given me are not enough to make a guess. So I can't begin to suggest what might be the issue.

I did this and my keyboard doesnt work anymore. What can be the cause? 10 months ago I spilled a bit of water on macbook and trackpad stopped working so i decided to replace it

Liquid damage is always tricky, you could have triggered electrical short during disassembly or assembly. It's impossible to foresee. But just in case: 1. double check cable connections. apple flex cables are very small and require precise connections. 2. unplug the trackpad cable and power the machine back on to check keyboard functionality. NOTE: REMEMBER TO ALWAYS UNPLUG POWER SOURCES WHEN WORKING INSIDE THE COMPUTER. THIS MEANS THE BATTERY CONNECTION INCLUDED. TIME STAMP: 0:55.

@@PetricusGaming yeah I replugged this new flex cable properly and all works fine now. Noticed that old cable was oxidized

How much did the replacement trackpad cost?

Hello. There are online retailers listing the part for USD$40. I am a bit different, I order parts directly from Apple and get parts at discounted Apple pricing (which sometimes is higher than the 3rd party price). The part number is 661-26202.

If you follow the steps correctly, that means the machine had the battery disconnected. These machine requires you to have the power adapter plugged in to power it back on after having the battery disconnected.
