@@leif1075Because queer people haven’t felt comfortable sharing these sorts of niche experiences like unrequited gay crushes on seemingly straight peers, it’s good to see it happening now because it’s inspiring confidence in people who grew up at a time where being gay wasn’t an ok thing. It’s cathartic, I think.
@@r0ckmomoh thanks for answering and sharing. It's even more sad It's still an issue. And indidnt realize in the song and video his crush is straight or perhaps not...and another issue is ppl still aren't OK with ppl being polyamorous or other things that aren't traditional.
I feel like I've been transported back to a concert with one of those singer-songwriters from the 70s--Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, etc. A lot of groovy folksy vibes. A brilliant move on his part.
His voice is butter, great talent! and I LOVE this song. So happy # TheView is helping to end the stigma with this wonderful, loving community! Good on you View!!!!!
@@leif1075 if you don't get within the song then you won't get at all. But from my perspective if you watch the official music video of this song you will see that this song is about a gay boy who really likes a boy who is straight most if not all gay men I know had a crush on straight men. And even thou we life in modern times this is a secret that every gay boy/man must keep for multiple obvious reasons. When it comes to Ben Platt his talent is only outmatched by his relatable humanity and modesty. He writes, compose and sings music that would effortlessly fit into the best music of a bygone era but yet it's catching which makes relevant to today's youngsters. This makes him yes a master of his graft. If you listen and look properly his music mirrors music of the big musicians who stood the test of time. Elton John, Barry Gibbs, Freddie Mercury Paul McCartney, John Lennon just to name a few. I also find that this specific song is extremely haunting and lingering and find myself often humming the tune which in turns prove my point of its lasting longevity.

"you don't want to kiss me, cause I'm not at all, like the girls in your posters that hang on your wall" - guts me EVERY time. i'm in tears every time I hear this song. . such a beautiful catharsis, and I so wish this had been out when I was going thru my first crush and was confused, terrified, and heartbroken.
As always your music, voice and lyrics touches me me so deeply that it feels like I need this like the air I breathe…you REALLY push my emotional button like no one else can do….except my last boyfriend…who pushed my buttons too….but that’s a different story 😎

As a gay man, I would have been saved a lot of heartache and difficulty if songs like this had been on the radio when I was a kid.
This part!
Why is that exactly if I may ask?

Truely a unique voice in his generation, not to mention that he is a exceptional song writer.
What makes his writing exceptional?

Same here!
The official music video is tear jerking as its so relatable to every gay man. WELL DONE BENNY
...and woman. Wow. This brought up so many painful, anguishing memories. And I'm in my 70's. Aside from that, what a masterful song-writer he is.
Hownis it relatable to every gay man exactly? And what makes it masterful?

OMG! All I wanted tonight! I was literally just talking to a friend of mine how I wished Ben started performing Andrew on TV shows. And here he is! ❤
I love how he closes his eyes when he sings. He really feels the music .

Amazing Performance! I love his voice so much, it gives me peace.
Same
You do know that most of it was pre-recorded backing tracks, don't you?
Well, he wasn't lying when he said he was inspired by stevie nix and fleetwood mac.
I'm also getting Paul Simon.
All I can hear is the James Taylor-esque of the song. Nice.
@@neilpeterson9195 right! James Taylor too
@@yourpetyourway Yeah, in the interview portion he mentioned all those names as the inspiration.
A very, very 60s and 70s americana vibe for sure! 😊
Just simply …. Beautiful ❤
Yay Ben!!! ❤
So beautiful the melody the voice the message 💜🌹
Sounds so much better here, without the autotune / modulations.
Feeling this right now. Going through it currently
So many of my thoughts when I was at that stage in my young life

Wow. This is a really pretty song
Gave me the vibe of Seals and Croft 💕
His voice resembles the late John Denver. Beautiful voice!
😂I was just thinking the same. Ben has a beautiful voice! Rip John Denver! 🙏🏼🎶
Joni Mitchell, too.❤
I've loved this guys voice since River
Nice!!!
Great!! Loved it!!
I love this song!
I love to hear him sing. He's full of joy.
His mom jeans were to die for!
They're back in fashion with Gen z
Well done, Ben!
Makes me think of the song "Beautiful Boy" by J. Lennon....Different meanings but both are beautiful songs
OMG! LOL. Took me a second to realize that Ben featured on Will & Grace, as Will's fling. Season 9, Ep 2 (Who's Your Daddy)
There, pre-ordered via Interscope website. Can't wait :-)
Damndrew, indeed.
Can someone please make a sapphic cover of this? 🥺
Man I love Ben Platt and I understand he wants to get on shows and perform but The View? Really?.. 😢
Sounds like he is influenced by Sufjan Stevens
Sorry, but.... 😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I see. The MAGATS have entered the chat 🙄
Most of the performance was pre-recorded backing tracks. They should have just shown the video.
