At this point, Ochoa should be named as PLAYER-MANAGER of the Mexico National Team!!!
Mexico in the early 2000s absorbed, but mixed in possession when they could. Mexico did the most damage from counter attacks and crosses in the 2000s because they had Omar Bravo, Alberto Medina, Barrera, Jesus Arrellano, Borgetti, Ramon Morales, and Nery Castillo
Mexico was living at the darkest time when it was the 1990 World Cup cause of the scandal from 1994-2006 they had quality players like pavel pardo, Luis Hernendez, Cuatemoc Blanco, Luis Garcia Aspe, Jared Borgetti, Sinha and Carlos Salciedo since then they hadn’t been that great
I am a Pole married to a wonderful Mexican woman. I told my wife after the WC: "Mexico has money and with all those great coaches out of a job like Martinez. Pocchetino, Paulo Bento, Tite, Luis Enrique, Bielsa, Tuchel, Marcelino, etc., you guys will have a great coach, while Poland, which does not have as much money or potential for success, will get a lousy coach again." I was shocked to find out that Poland got the great Fernando Santos (who got a then lousy Portugese team without Ronaldo to win Euro 2016) for 2 million euros a year, while Mexico was getting another lousy Argentinian coach who has done nothing outside the Mexican and Argentinian league and pay them at least 4 million dollars a year. Mexico could have had a coach of pure gold, but again it is a coach who will be a yes man to the Mexican federation and the league owners who will do nothing to improve the Mexican national team. Yes, Mexico will probably reach the 5th game in the next WC, but that will still only be the 1/8 final in a 48 team tournament. Cocca instead of all the great European based coaches who do not have a job. Ridiculous!
true, although Santos' teams dont play very good football at all
MATIAS ALMEYDA... that's who they needed! He's on track to win the domestic double in Greece and potentially qualify AEK Athens for the Champions League!! Not to mention everything he did for Chivas. Chivas, who were on the border of relegation for like 5 years straight before Almeyda came and won 2 cups, the league, and the CONCACAF champions league with a group of mediocre players that only ever knew what it was to lose. Sound familiar? Oh yeah, just like Mexico.
As much as it hurts me, Mexico does not have quality players at the moment, and even those that do have quality are on a downwards trend at the moment: Chucky, Lainez, Jimenez, etc. Mexico needs a coach who knows how to bring the best out of mediocre players and players with a chip on their shoulder. They need Matias Almeyda. You already hired another Argentinian ANYWAYS, so away with that excuse.
But ofc that's not gonna happen because of politics.
Facts mexico will stay at same level if it stays corrupt and corruption is the main problem on why Mexican players never seem to make it big in Europe
Hugo sanchez was the only one imo
Lainez was an hijo de mami y papi he was never good at all. He's a poor man's Antony.
@@mikecane6501 USA corrupted FIFA .... FIFA screwed Mexico.
Nah chivas had a decent team at the time but how did almeyda do at earthquakes?
Mexicans, we can understand and sympathise with you from Ireland. In Ireland, our most disastrous manager in the history, Stephen Kenny, was selected by a committee rather than by the national team and our corrupt FAI still put faith on this Kenny despite losing to Luxembourg and Armenia.
Mexican football continues to underperform and fail to live up to its potential. This is coming from a Tigres fan.
I wish gignac could’ve been on the Mexican national team 😢
He would’ve helped A LOT not gonna lie
No se preocupen con Cocca va ver muchos naturalizados
@@mikecane6501 Gignac is just another chicharito
@@Zetro999 maybe currently he not that good like before but I meant he should’ve been allowed to join when he was younger like around 35 years old tbh
because they accept FIFA corruption. USA corrupted FIFA...and that is why Mexico has slowly gone down hill. USA want's to first dominate Mexico, then go for anyone else. Mex federation will play along with USA for the right amount of money. AMLO is getting involve, not investigating FIFA corruption in Mexico.
Fast forward to end of 2026
Faitelson: MXNT coach needs to be Mexican, I have seen this movie before.
😂 vamos a ver
@@brandonb3174 Diego cocca won’t even make it to the 2026 World Cup he will be sacked by then
Lmao Mexicans blaming foreigner coaches as to why the suck 😂 no Mamés
@@Frankieefootballmundial😢
This is the difference between USA soccer and Mexican soccer. Did you noticed the statement form Tigres after Cocca accepted the job!? "Terminated" exemplify the working relationship between the team owners and the Mexican federation. They just don't work together because team owners are more concern about their greed than working together for the betterment of Mexican soccer. Which in the other hand USA soccer and the MLS seems to work more in unison thus you they keep getting back good results.
You don’t have the full story no digas nada
Nobody respected tigres because they're a small team
@@brandonb3174 Mexican results speak for themselves, hermano
@@brandonb3174 but you've seen the results. Mexico se bajo desde Qatar 2022, la selection mexicana san bajado porque Liga MX es mas interesada en dinero.
Sorry for my Spanish bro but the Mexican players are not given a chance to play in Europe to attain more skills.
Name checks out. Cocca-in
You have Bielsa, and Almada on the table. I would have even taken Jaime Lozano or Nacho Ambriz. But the federation chooses to continue making mistakes. I really do hope Cocca works out, but I don’t expect anything. The more we maintain mediocrity the more Liga MX, and Mexican football won’t change. They’re already on their way out in 2026…
Bielsa has no business being in the conversation to coach the Mexican national team
Marcelo should be the man! The Mexican federation already owes Marcelo so much! Who brought up Rafa Marquez, Jared Borgetti, Pavel Prado, Oswaldo Sánchez, cua Blanco, Germán Villa, and many more, yes it was Marcelo. Who debuted Javier Mascherano, when he played in second division, Marcelo! Marcelo would have changed the mindset! I hope the USMNT can pick up Marcelo.
What’s wrong with Cocca’s defense first mentality? In fact it benefits Mexico due to the players they have. I’m sorry to say this but Mexico just isn’t creative enough to play attacking football. They proved that through the years by how they move the ball on the pitch. However, on the counter they are wicked and brilliant. Cocca can literally employ a 3-5-2 or go with a 4-3-3 if Vela decides to come back.
Agree with everything except that Vela is coming back. He's not. The problem is that Mexicans think they actually have the players to implement an attacking style of football. They don't and the few players that actually show any offensive talent either are inconsistent or end up returning to play in Mexico or the MLS once they realize they can't cut it in Europe.
Lainez could play instead of Vela if Lainez becomes good again
I kinda agree but that's from my limited experience watching Mexico. I don't think trying to out talent or out attack teams is a good strategy right now. I know it's not the most exciting way to play but it can be very effective.
Feel like they just gave Tata’s younger brother a chance with this one
Why do you keep getting coaches is that they’re not Mexicans they have to be from other countries they need to be Mexican not Argentine?????
What’s up with Mexico’s fascination for Argentine managers? Respect to Argentina but the last great Mexican coach from there was Lavolpe.
another Argentine coach? Have we not learn for the past or is this on purpose
Juan Carlos osorio wasn’t Mexican and wasn’t that great cause of his rotationes
@@Frankieefootballmundial He was good though not bad he made personal mistakes wanted to be Colombian coach and even got lazy in the Copa America. Anyways the president of FMF should resign
So I used the time machine and this is what happened:
Gold Cup: Eliminated in the semifinals by Canada (1-3).
Nations League: Lost to USMNT again (1-2).
Copa America (if staged with Concacaf teams at USA): Eliminated in the quarterfinals by eventual winners Argentina (0-4).
World Cup (host): Eliminated in the group stage with 0 win, 0 draw, 3 losses, 0 goals, and 12 goals conceded.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
There’s no way this happens. We’ll win a gold cup or nations league this upcoming era w/ Cocca. I can believe CA. But we def won’t embarrass ourselves in the WC we’ll make it passed group stages, we were close this past WC
@@jonathanappleseed69 Also, the fact Mexican clubs didn't win the Champions League was such a rare. Before Seattle Sounders the last year, UNAM had also lost to Saprissa, a club from Costa Rica, back in 2005.
It seems the Mexican team owners really want to keep the status quo alive with the face of “lets reform the system”. I hate that these owners have a huge say in what the national team does.
Can you imagine the Spanish national coach being chosen by La Liga team owners or the English national coach being chosen by Premier League owners? This by definition is corrupt. That is why a Mexican nation that should routinely be at least in the semifinals or quarterfinals of the WC are always relegated to underachieving. The Mexican government should interfere, but President AMLO is the only man who is more corrupt than the Mexican league team owners.
Obviously disappointed, but certainly not surprised. The FMF keeps screwing up, and it’s just so painful to watch. We, the fans, and the players deserve better.
NOT a lot red flags with Cocca.
Welp mission failed guys we will get them next time. Maybe 2030 we will see the 5th game
I’m 100 % against coaches being allowed to coach other countries national teams! If players have to be nationals why not the coaches?
tbh thats a good point i never thought of it that way but it makes sense.
@@XXSTEAKYXX it does make sense for sure
Feel for Tigres
Grupo orlegi bought atlas and that's why they won back to back league titles.. can Diego really take the credit for that?
Mexico have to stop getting Argentinian coaches who make them lose to Argentina every time they play them because every Argentinian is a football patriot and would not allow his team to lose to especially Mexico. So instead of Edson Alvarez in the midfield you put in old Guardado and put Lozano as a number 9. That is why Mexico lost to Argentina. And Mexico did not advance because Tagliafico confirmed that Argentina purposely did not want to score more than two goals against Poland so that Mexico would not advance. And yet Mexico has a love affair with Argentinian coaches who always make Mexico lose. For 4 million dollars you could make many a good European coach move to Mexico City and finally make Mexico a successful football team. All at least get Piojo back who knew how to win and also how to put stupid journalists in their place.
This shows how really out of touch the FMF is.
This also shows how certain groups within the Mexican soccer federation pull more rank than others....
Not another Argentine

Correct 👍
And this reflects a lack of international Soccer Expertise level.
European Coaches won 12 World Cups (with Italy Germany France England Spain)
South American National Teams (local Coaches) won 10 World Cups (Brazil Argentina Uruguay)
The European Clubs or European Leagues acquire more Soccer Expertise, because they get the best Soccer Players in the world, from within Europe and the South America Region and all over. So unless a National Team in the Concacaf gets a Coach who worked in Europe, you will not have a Mexican or American or Canadian National team capable of winning on the World Club level like they do in the Gold Cup.
But, how does Argentina or Brazil do it?
(Uruguay hasn't won since the 1930..
The answer can only be understood if you analyze how these Nations National Team Coach works vis a vis preparing for European National Teams.
Unless you are good in knowing European and South American Soccer, no way you will succeed as a Coach, no matter the National Team you coach.
There is one exception to this Rule: Hoalid Regragui !!
How did he come out First from a group that included two Croatia and Belgium and Canada?
Then how did he defeat Spain and Portugal (4 European National Team, 2 of them played several Finals)
And Hoalid Regragui did not coach any BIG European Clubs, however he knows more than enough about European Soccer.
The other point is Hoalid Regragui did not play in South America like he did in France mostly..
So how didi he know how to play best against Brazil Chile and beat them in Friendlies and against Paraguay a tie????
So, there are solutions for the National team of Mexico and the US and Canada, the lesson from Morocco's Hoalid Regragui can be enough to draw the right answers.
So who does that analysis if it's not the Federation?
It is the Federation Officials JOB to do these analysis and figure out a path forward.
The Problem is when you have Nepotism, it's almost impossible to even have that conversation
Only acceptable options were Bielsa or el Piojo. Why are y'all saying Almada or Cocca? They have no international experience and have only the most recent seasons, which the Mexican teams have quickly adjusted to. Matias? he said he has no interest and has the same issue as Almada. and Cocca. One great season and then bombed at MLS. And which idiots keep saying Jimmy? He hasn't even one sheet. Let's be real, the FMF one want a yes man. Someone who wont pressure the Mexican teams to change.
Ill remain hopeful and positive but we could have got someone way better.
Mexicans keep thinking that “style” matters in winning football games nowadays. What they need is players that can play in any style and that’s something they lack severely. If Argentina showed us anything this last World Cup is that playing “pretty” is not going to cut it but having top talent in top leagues and having a coach that can exploit that talent with different styles can reap rewards. Cocca may not implement an attractive/flashy style of football but he can set up the foundation by finding talent in the Mexican league that can eventually be molded into playing any style. Will it be attractive football? No. But it will be effective and enough for them to beat the teams they have to beat and perhaps even giving us the surprise here and there.
Mexico playing defensive seems odd.
Mexico about to park the bus against Suriname
How about just Mexico having a good World Cup, I’ve been hearing about this “Quinto partido” since 1996 lol
Please for the love of God can someone say something positive about Diego Cocca, I'm scared by everyone saying he's terrible. Please anyone 😂
Well remember ESPN said that El Tata was the best choice Mexico has made, and a lost for the U.S.
He'll probably leave the national team in 2024 after an embarrassing Copa America. That's my prediction.
México needed a coach with a proven record of developing young Mexicans as the next Mexican team will be young. They needed a coach with a proven record of success and a coach that is a teacher. Cocca possesses none of these qualities. He won at Atlas because of the players grupo Orlegi brought in. Outside of Atlas he only had one successful stint as coach in Argentina for Racing. Otherwise, he has failed everywhere he has gone. The fans should just boycott the national team, Liga MX games, and not buy any merchandise. The Mexican national team is run like a mafia full of corruption.
Guillermo Almada would've been a better choice in my opinion.
This is a flavor of the month hire if the Mexican league loves doing anything it’s recycling the same coaches instead of giving new ones a chance to come through the ranks there’s a reason guys like Ruben Romano keep getting hired this Could work out but the odds are certainly against it though
No they need to stop hiring Argentinian coaches
Y'all said about Tata all love to him, now y'all hate him. Now y'all saying it's wrong choice for Mexico. I agree we had other better choices but at least Cocca coached a Mexican team and knows some players.
He got fired on 6/19/23
2026 no 4th game for Mexico still 😂😂😂
Mexicans love Argentinians. Even though the relationship is always toxic but this is reality. Peru had Garecca, Ecuador had Alfaro, Chile had Pizzi but in these countries things are different.
Dont think so. Chile and Argentinian do hate each other way back for political reasons. Argentina stole Chile some territory during the War of the Pacific. Mexico and Argentina might have a toxic relationship, but it’s not that bad compared to Argentina and Chile.
You all are sleeping on Diego 😂😂. Mexico is gonna go far with him
I swear channels don't know about soccer. these chicanos don't know cocca has been champion with racing. Cocca is a proven man
What about his playing style? U ready to see mexico play with 5 defenders every game playing counter attack?
Otra vez nos va a ganar Argentina, que no mam.. No entienden. Fuera los directivos y Azcarraga.
Yeah, probably, but it won't be because of him.
Argentina es campeón de mundo
Should have been Almada
no even guardiola can do anything with donkeys.
4 million usd a year with Tigres?
Tata 2.0
Nah
Cocca is the right man!
Salazar be ODing with the makeup
Can the cartel just finish the rest of the federation so the new generation can prosper!!! 🔫 🔫
He’s Real good friends with on of the main owners. He sucks and is super boring to watch.
Opinions are like assholes, everybody has them.
The process has that nasty political and in house cronyism vibe. Why are so many federations F’d up?
Well, you paid millions for Tata for nothing, At least with Cocca, you don't expect nothing. And Mexico will never do anything till they change the Federation and the people that keep getting their pockets full from the National team. You could bring Guardiola or the best coach in the world . And get the same results. Is not the coaches is the people behind in suits getting rich.
He's exactly the coach L Tri needs. Solidify the defense and go from there.
