    I will have my service dog in school with me next year, my final year. The school system in Canada is annoying and require the dog to pass a certain test that "official" service dogs have to do even though there is no official licensing for a service dog, much like you and Cloud. I am hoping to have Kiki(my service dog) with me for at least the last semester though she will likely be with me all year! Wish me luck!

    • @paigestatham6363
      @paigestatham6363 5 років тому +9

      Kassy Sharpe I’m sure having to have another test almost like a barrier in the way of your and your dog working together. However I can definitely understand the schools policy. But then again they can’t prevent you bringing your service dog unless for some reason the dog was to act out of line, so my guess is the extra test they ask you do to is just to help prevent any possible complications. Good luck! I hope you both do well! ❤️

      You don't have to answer, but I have a few questions and i'd appreciate it if you did. I also live in Canada (Quebec to be precise) and everyone keeps telling me to talk to my psychiatrist about getting a service dog (I have depression, general and social anxiety) ,but I am TERRIFIED of her. Most of the time she just makes me anxious and feel like total shit, so I have a feeling she'll say it's not necessary despite me having missed a lot of school, getting panic/anxiety attacks and passing out (she'll probably even say i just have to work harder and stop missing school or they'll lock me up in the mental hospital). So i just want to know if I absolutely have to talk to her or I can consult my psychologist or family doctor about it?

    • @elenagibbons4719
      @elenagibbons4719 5 років тому +3

      Gabriela Zepeda I don’t live in Canada but I do have anxiety. I think that if you hate talking to your psychiatrist, you should find another one (if possible) and see who else you can talk to about this.

    *I have some questions:*
    *1)* If the halls are crowded do you have to wait and get to your class a few minutes late? (So she doesn't get nervous)
    *2)* Is she allowed to do her business on school property?
    *3)* Are you allowed to take her with you when you do SAT's or end of the year tests?
    (I know these questions are really random, I'm just curious, and if you see this comment, thank you for taking your time to read it. 😅❤️)

    • @aesirville8806
      @aesirville8806 5 років тому +21

      1: yes she can, service dogs are trained to not get nervous
      2:yes, where else will she do it?
      3: YES. She might have a episode during SATS and there is a slim chance the students know how to help her.
      Yes to all

      The Service Spaniel if it helps, I think most people (at least in my school) would find it cool. You get to bring a dog with you? Nice! It might take some explaining that they can’t pet the dog, but eventually they’ll probably become used to it.

      Well my sd dog gets me more attention at first, but when people FINNALY get it in there heads that you CANT PET THE DOG, everything just kind of goes back to normal, except a few stares. (And my favorite part is when new freshman come in every year and freak out bc there is a dog😂)

    My psychiatrist said she doesn’t think a service dog will help me that much (mmmmmk) but I got really attached to the service dog community so I’m fostering and training one (SDIT not for me). I switched schools mid year and I’m having trouble (now at a private school) for them to let me bring him and it’s frustrating.

    • @sitkaflower9488
      @sitkaflower9488 5 років тому +1

      Grace ! Private schools aren't forced to make accommodations for SD's as they are, well, private. And ANY business, school, building has a right to deny a SDiT. If you're psychiatrist doesn't believe a SD will help you, I'd take their professional opinion over being attached to a community on YT over your own health, some people find a SD made their mental disability worse either from the added attention or stress from dealing with conflict. Please follow the advice of your mental health professional, what you believe will help you might not help you at all in the long run. Best wishes and health.

    • @Grace-uu3bb
      @Grace-uu3bb 5 років тому +1

      Sitka Flower thanks for your opinion and I’m not keeping him I just wanted to try and help out because it’s such a wonderful community I just wanted to do my little part and help someone. The laws here are different but it’s still frustrating that they won’t let me bring him but im working on it. Also I do have social anxiety so a service dog might not work for me but maybe it will in the future and if not I now no the laws and rights of a handler

    • @Tomipeace13
      @Tomipeace13 5 років тому

      What were the reason? I training a SD and looking for a psychiatrist to write a prescription. I will not let them say no because I know what’s best for me. This dog changed my life in ways I can’t imagine .honestly wished I got a SD years ago my quality of life and health would have been so much better. Better late than never I guess. I have social anxiety and paranoia as well so I wasn’t sure how having the dog will work. But now I leave my house and having the dog gives me something to focus on in public. It’s like my own little safe space🤗

      Haha!! I always wear my seatbelt. I don’t know why but it really doesn’t look like I’m wearing it because in the video I was wearing it. I would never get in the car and let it move without a seatbelt on. But yes huskies are wonderful dogs.

    VisualMoss - - - QUESTION! Was Cloud trained to heel before she became your service dog? If so, what age did you train her at? I got my husky at twelve weeks, but I've been on vacation and haven't seen him for about two months. I'm afraid it's going to be harder to teach him tasks because I haven't been there to train him consistently. Thank you! ((Love what you do btw, don't stop!))

    Hey Visual moss and cloud ☺️ I have hypoglycaemia and my doge comes everywhere with me, I’ve trained him to help with my anxiety and PTSD so he’s not officially trained for that but I have black outs or ‘fainting fits’ (so called because they have little or no warning) and he learned to notify me about them him self so I touched up on that and my sister helped because she’s an animal behaviourist so I guess I was quite lucky hah, just wanted to say despite the fact that I haven’t subbed til now (I know what’s wrong with me lol... lemme just write you that novel hah) I’ve been watching you for a while and you and cloud always make me ... and Jasper smile (Titan is my 4 year Doberman) his face lights up when he sees cloud, honestly I think he has a crush on her 😂 but yeah I’m gonna stop typing now because my hands are shaking lol (it’s normal nothing to worry about) love what you do ♥️

    Brush your dog (@7:47 mark) :P .... that said I remember it took several YEARS to finally remove all the furr from our Husky out of the house after he passed. I have to brush my current girl quite a bit but OMFG ... nothing like when we had the husky ... he was a shocker. Though was a soft and fluffy shocker.

    @VisualMoss I have a service dog in training and will be getting her k9 good citizenship, and public access test done next month and was just wondering if you could tell me where you got that mat that cloud is laying on during you classes. I'm trying to prepare for her coming to school with me. If you could that would be great. But if it's to much of a problem it's fine.

    I’ve been out of school for almost a year now, but plan to go back hopefully with my SDiT. Aiming for next year. A year behind but that’s ok, I’m not ready to go back, I can barely go anywhere. (College)

      Emmy 119 I am aware that a SDiT is not a service dog, but it is up to the school whether they will allow a SDiT to attend so I wouldn’t say you can’t bring them to school.

    Hi! I have a chronic illness and I really believe a service dog would help me a lot. I’m in school and getting around is extremely difficult and painful for me. I hope to be qualified for a service dog but if I do I’m scared to take her to school, and anywhere in general, because I have really bad social anxiety and I’m also scared that a student may harass her or when we go out getting kicked out of a store or mall or something. I just was wondering if you’d share some advice and maybe some stories of yours with me and also how the training went for Cloud? I have a little husky puppy I would want to be my service dog if I’m qualified so I’d also like to hear advice on that as well if possible. Thank you and I love your videos 🥰

    • @brynnnoelle5356
      @brynnnoelle5356 5 років тому

      Alex Danielle that’s a long story that depends on the person
      It takes YEARS though.
      First getting recognized for your disability then getting 5-10,000$ for your dog and then training your service dog which takes at least 2 years or you take them to a program which costs more $$
      So it’s a long hard and difficult process but it’s so worth it in the end

    • @VisualMoss
      @VisualMoss  5 років тому +4

      It’s important to make sure you always take time out to let your dog use the bathroom. If they have an accident, clean it up and remember to change something about your routine so they have more potty breaks.
