I completely agree. The US suffers from #corporatecapture in all areas and the health and well-being of the citizens are negatively impacted in countless ways because of that capture.

I stopped watching the mainstream news in January of 1995 during the OJ Simpson trial and network TV about 7 years later. I remember returning to the US for a while and was in a sports bar late one night watching American football. They went to a commercial break. It was an ad for some pharmaceutical and it said that it could cause many harmful side effects. I honestly never saw anything like it and thought it was one of the old Saturday Night Live comedy skits. Just crazy!
About 73% of the funding from corporate mainstream media outlets comes from big pharma.

Recently, my wife and I traveled to Barcelona to spend some time with her family. One of the first things I noticed was that the orange Fanta was not bright orange. It was a more faint, subdued orange color. Also, food prices were significantly less than in the US both in grocery stores and restaurants. the first day there, a group of 16 of us ate for about 160 Euros--the food included heaps of sea food (mostly Caracoles and shrimp), flank steak, roasted chicken, potatoes, salads, fruit, chorizo, bread, lots of beer and sangria as well as 5 bottles of wine. on the last night there we all ate at a traditional, authentic Chinese restaurant (one where the clientele were mostly Chinese)--with a round glass top rotating table. There were 28 of us. We had, literally, dozens of platters, bowls, and hot-pots (served communal style) and a lot of beer and wine. Total cost was 510 Euros.

I just moved from the US to Portugal. Things I noticed right away are needing to always take your own "saco" to the grocery store (as you buy your very fresh food!), police are not hiding with radar guns at every corner and everyone, including condo dwellers, have a garden of some sort. Side note, I turned on red for the first week here before I found out it wasn't legal. Whoops!

Great video. As a seasoned world traveler, I can say with certainty that the most unhealthy food in the world is produced and consumed in the USA.
Almost 80% of the food and beverage items in most American grocery stores are highly processed and were not on the shelves 50 years ago.
GMOs are banned in places like Peru and Russia.

Many people in the US also grow up in the thick of self-emitted hot air which, sadly, must be consumed by those nearby. Please support global efforts to curb hot air emissions.
I agree. Most of my closet is 2nd hand purchases. I started sewing when I was in middle school and made my daughter's bedding, curtains, etc as well as the curtains and pillows throughout our home. Throw away culture, insane consumerism and debt peonage are destroying us.

When I was in the country of Georgia just a week ago on a group trip, a few of the guys from the UK made a comment when buying Skittles that they were banned in the UK (likely due to the food coloring) but could buy them in Georgia. It is interesting how different foods or products are allowed or not allowed in particular countries. It's quite fascinating indeed!

I've always been curious why someone that is gluten sensitive or eats gluten free in North America can enjoy baked goods in Europe without side effects. What's the difference in flour? What contaminates are used in NA but not in Europe. It's got to be some additive? Especially Italian flour used in pasta and bread
It is the glyphosate used in our wheat products - agribusiness practices include saturating maturing wheat with this toxin to KILL the wheat because it is easier to harvest dry than in a living form. But we then are consuming the glyphosate which is deeply absorbed into the shaft of the wheat. There's no removing it. THAT us why many of us can't tolerate "wheat" in America. Not because of the wheat itself.

I really appreciate the way that you have approached the subject of things outside the US which are common there but banned in many other countries. I am an American with dual citizenship and have lived in Canada since the 1970's. Many things Americans think of as "rights" are not seen as that in other countries, including Canada. The gun issue speaks volumes to how we approach things differently north of the Border. Canada is a far safer place to live and to raise a family. We are moving more against Fast Fashion and rethinking how much we want to let grocery chains, domestic and foreign, get away with in astronomical profits post-Covid. Things are not easy here, but the governmentis proving a certain level of responsibility for the protection of social values. One more thing: I think that the way universities in the US are out of the reach of so many people is a scandal, and the lower education levels that result are wreaking havoc on the US and its society. There is so much for the US to learn from the other G7 countries and others. They can do far better than they are currently doing.

Yep, moved here 3 years ago and love the biodegradable products. Agave straws are better than even plastic in both taste and texture.
Someone from France living in the US and I were discussing the legality of turning on red. It turns out that in France, it's legal to change lanes while driving straight through an intersection, while it's illegal in my part of the US. We were thinking that might be why this law is different.
The one that baffles me is that only around twenty states in the US have any system of regular safety inspections for motor vehicles, and several states which had them have since abolished them. Given that the US has one of the worst road safety records in the developed world, it beggars belief that people can get away with driving vehicles with bald tyres, no brakes, serious structural corrosion or stupid amateur modifications with no system of accountability. Most European countries have had annual, or at least two-yearly inspections for sixty years or more.
There’s a proposal for having one uniform standard for vehicles applied worldwide. If implemented, such a standard could contribute to reduction in the number and use of all types of vehicles, not only within the US but without as well. We’d see car ownership decrease dramatically in locations where cars are vital to the local economy. In turn, there would be welcomed reductions in emissions. Please advocate for a one-world standard of vehicle care and maintenance.
The EU is trying to regulate fast fashion because the kings of fast fashion, Zara, are based here! The European tradition of well-tailored clothes that last may indeed outlive the fast fashion trend, but don’t sell short the human urge to have “more of the latest looks for less” (the current frenzy in France is for even cheaper duds from Temu, shipped direct from China).

There are several international food dyes and additives that are banned in America. Red dye number 2 was banned in America in 1976, but is used in Canada and in Europe. The EU and the UK have said that there are no safety concerns about chlorine washed chicken. In the EU, bagged salads are washed in chlorine and in the UK chlorine is added to tap water. The amount of chlorine used to wash chicken is safe. The problem is when imported, the amount of chlorine can't be regulated, so would be unknown.

Water comes from a variety of sources, such as lakes and wells, which can be contaminated with germs that may make people sick. Germs can also contaminate water as it travels through miles of piping to get to a community. To prevent contamination with germs, water companies add a disinfectant-usually either chlorine or chloramine-that kills disease-causing germs such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, and norovirus.
A lot of the things you mention in this video are some of the reasons I prefer to move to Europe for retirement, if not sooner.

Do you believe the air quality is good or bad generally in the uk ?
Some things are banned in certain states in the US but are legal in Europe. For example, payday loans. I could watch 10 big pharma ads over a single payday loan ad. Such a disaster. This is a significant issue in Europe, which unfortunately gets exported to other regions, such as Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, and so on.
Payday loans are everywhere. What US State has them banned? I need to move there.

I live in Fortaleza, Brasil and my family reuses the plastic bagsvespecialy for the trash. I wish it was a option but when a similar law was considered we realized that people will still have to buy plastic bags for bathroon trash,

One more thought … it’s still a good practice to read your labels carefully, even in Europe. One icky thing the EU has not banned is “caramel color” which is one of the allowed additives (and in fact it’s very hard to find certain things without it in them, like soy or Worcestershire sauce). It’s a known carcinogen. Look on the labels for numbered items - those will be additives, some natural, some chemical, but none normally present in the food you’re consuming.

It is just too difficult to know what is in our food in the U.S. That is the reason I try to purchase only health food store brands and whole foods. It costs more but my health is worth it.

Thailand banned single use plastic bags? That's news to me here in Thailand. The use of plastic bags here is overwhelming. I've been here for over 6 years. There are tiny inroads toward using you own bags but it feels more like it was in the US in the early 1970's. In the meantime, plastic bags are king here.
As for electric cars - I've only seen them in the past year or so. They won't be taking over here in the foreseeable future.

Live in Colombia for a few months and it’s so easy to lose weight due to the better food quality- as long as you stay away from the American products. Chickens are the size nature intended.
Driving on the other hand- use of lane lines are merely a “suggestion”.
The single use bags, I make use of them in the AirBnB and I put my shoes in them in luggage.

the reason many countries don't allow turning right at red lights is because they have pedestrians, who would be put at risk when crossing streets with cars coming around the corner
FYI I have spent time in the European nations of Serbia and Albania and they DON’T CARE if you’re a pedestrian in a crosswalk with the green light for walkers. They will turn right on red and also LEFT ON RED while you’re still in the crosswalk😡 It’s nerve wracking for me as a walker. Taiwan did the same and in Taiwan it was even the city bus drivers speed through your crosswalks not caring you are in them!!
I don't think that's it. In the US, people turning right at red lights are required to yield to pedestrians and bicyclists. We are also required to make a complete stop before turning (though not everyone does).
One possible explanation is that it's legal (for example, in France) to change lanes while driving straight through an intersection, but it's illegal in the US. If someone turns right while someone else changes lanes, you could easily have an accident.
Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas? Tell that to the trees.

I didn't know turning right on red was a crime in other countries. I think I would be too nervous to drive in other countries anyway. I hope to one day live abroad. I studied abroad briefly and I have never been happier. I would love to feel that again.

I moved back to yhe US after living for a few decades in Costa Rica. I was shocked to see the plastic bags and plastic packaging is still being used and abused in the US and dont get me started with styrofoam? Costa Rica banned plastic bags 3 or 4 yrs ago and its been almost 3 yrs dhen ghey banned styrofoam

American lobbying (e.g -American Resturant Association) ensures we all lose against big money
I am concerned about the one-use plastic bags for carrying items home from the store. I live in the Philippines and find this only secondary. They are fighting this problem here by requiring you to purchase cloth bags to transport your goods in. This is fine. Most people find these throwaway bags very useful in their daily use by folding the bags up and taking them out for everyday use. You always find a need to move something from one place to another. The big problem here is in our stores. Being a poor country, everything is sold in small packets, not like America. Unlike in America, everything is sold in these tiny packets for a one-time use. These bags have no second use. They are filling up our landfills faster than anything. This problem should be addressed before anything else. The larger sizes are recycleable plstic but these tiny packets are not. Do other countries have the same problem? How can we change this?

about frack, i think you are wrong. it can create enough oil to save people’s life for cheaper electricity. so called green energy is more harmful to natural environments. wind mill kills birds, solar power requires chinese slaves(some are even prisoners), and that is still not enough, so end up buying gas like germany does. i strongly suggest you get more information about fracking.

Police mentality. Almost every country i have been to outside the US, the police want to be seen. Moved to Mexico and the police were behind me with their lights on as i left the airport. I pulled over and he just went on by. Then noticed they all left their lights on. I still have paranoia from US cops.

@@gomertube Self defence is generally legal most places (with comparable legal systems to the US), yes. In most countries people would not have a gun in their home though.
@@eljj7968 But if there are no guns in the home, then you're pretty much screwed if you're attacked with a gun...or if you're undersized compared to your assailant and only have, say, a butter knife, then you're in trouble no matter what weapons they have, if any. Right?

it's not about relgigion, It's about a contract, the same in business, if you signed a contract and cheated, you are responsible. I guess if government is involved in marriag - meaning the split your possesions in case of divorce, there should be also rule about breaking the contract and consequences. For example if wife or husband cheated they don't get half of possesions in case of divorce.
@@Firespirit233 The ridiculous concept of government being involved in relationships is a deeper aspect of the problem. And on that side note, if "cheating" is breaking the contract, then who decides what defines cheating and what courtroom process will determine if it actually took place. A Jury trial?
The marriage contract also often says "...in sickness and in health...". Does the government get to decide what "sickness" and "health" mean? If someone leaves their spouse who became a miserable alcoholic, does the government get to tell them they shouldn't have filed for divorce because alcoholism is a "sickness"?
A marriage should be between two people and have nothing to do with the government.
I’ve heard that it’s legal in the US to use a weapon to defend yourself against violent crime. Is this true? Sounds crazy to me.
The American tipping culture is so unfair. Yes if you working in nice place you’re going to make good money. But not everywhere is like that. We all know who are the people that don’t tip, the 13% of the nation. Also USA is getting more and more diverse, and many of this new immigrants don’t tip too.
When I was in Romania I could not find very many flavors of Doritos that we see here in the state. I had to try McDonalds once and even though it was still processed, it did taste very different. The organic veggies were simply amazing. When I got back to the states, it seemed like everything tasted like chemicals AND everything triggered hunger in me... it's no wonder Americans are so fat.

I am pretty sure you have been fed a load of crap on the origins of tipping. It was never practiced in Europe until after the US entered WW1 and WW2 and the same can be said for Asia. While I agree that tip deferment is BS and needs to be abolished, tipping was born out of American generosity and kindness, not slavery.

Todays new (advanced and safe) nuclear power plants are a FAR cheaper and cleaner alternative to fracking.
