The original with Fox was soooo good. One of my favourites of all time. But I think Redmayne can do it justice. The one with Willis was OK (the scene with him testing his device on Jack Black a little gruesome), entertaining, but I prefer the original.

We see a scene of Lashana scurrying about in body armour with some kind of M4 derivative which really casts doubt on your hope and it's a hope I share. Yeah they've made her into some kind of Intelligence Officer and whilst it's feasible she might get embedded with some kind of tactical unit at some point she shouldn't be James-Bonding-It about. It could in theory be exactly as you hope and just have a few sprinklings of very well done 'action' but I'm skeptical.. It's a modern movie, acting and dialogue don't maintain the attention deficit of the mainstream.

Back then, 50 years ago, it was not expected to have a woman be a character leading the hunt for a killer but after the woman who tracked down Bin Landen resulting in him getting killed, the producers thought it might be a good idea to make that adaptation. The problem they are starting to find is that men are becoming fragile, sensitive about feeling left out by tv producers who are not making them a priority of their tv shows.
Many reasons why we should watch this: 1) Eddie Redmayne, with that grey, misty eyes looks ready as no one else could have. 2) There is every room to improve upon a good story to the modern, internet age. 3) As a series there are some details or essence in the book that could be explored more deeply than in a single movie. 4) Mr Forsyth, reportedly serving as Consulting Producer, would be there to see to it that this will not fail. I loved the Freddie Forsyth book read it long before I ever saw the movie. Never watched the Bruce version, but am a big fan of modern re-makes and you know Eddie and that cast will do it justice. As for peacock, well, only Prime could make a more terrible version of Jack Reacher 😂😊
Don't waste your time & money on this film. Watch the original DAY OF THE JACKAL(1973), starring Edward Fox and Michael Lonsdale, directed by Fred Zinnemann. It's perfection.
