Half way through the video and I'm sold on buying it.
The rule of thumb is to fill a boil kettle 80% so 13.2 gal times .8 = 10.56 gals.
The best video I have found on UA-cam!
Nice review. Actually it's the best Vevor Still review I've found on the internet. Thanks!
Thanks I appreciate that I hope it helps if you ever have any other questions feel free to ask I don't mind at all
Really good reviews and I like how you show people how to put it together
Thank you for watching... 😁 I like to do that because I know how much it can help others especially if they have never been around a still before or assembled one...Shine On
This looks like a good little setup for test batches🤔. Great review. Complete and informative. Really enjoy your channel. Keep it up.

I was planning to get it too, and with this video you gave me confirmation that it's a good product to start with. now you just need to know where to find the recipes for some fruit distillates 😂😂because as a beginner, since distillation is illegal, it's not like you can find recipes everywhere.🤷♂😉 . thanks for your video
Absolutely! If you go through the videos on my UA-cam channel I have several fruit Brandy recipes and plenty more to come. Brandy is my pride lol I'm glad it helped you. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask. I don't mind at all...shine on
Danke für die Vorführung.
Your welcome thank you for watching
Loved the video. Question were you running the liquor through wood chips in the funnel to get flavor before going into the Jar?
It's american white oak lump charcoal it doesn't add any flavor or color it helps remove any harsh compounds that are left in the shine I only do it when I run grain mashes if I'm doing a brandy I don't use it because it can also take flavor and with a brandy the flavor is already very subtle
I’m still using one of those and it’s been a few years. Still looks new after at least 150 gallons of mash has been run through it.
Absolutely! For the price they're outstanding stills awesome to start out with or awesome for experienced people. Definitely worth the money
Great review, i like how you went in depth with everything and took the time to do so! I just have one question. What is the best way to figure out how much mash to use for this pot? Thanks.
Thank you..I try to be as thorough as possible...Me personally if Im using a 13 gallon still I'll put 10 gallons of mash in it and leave enough head space so I'll make 12-14 gallons of mash by the time I pump it out when I get close to the grain bed at the bottom of the mash barrel I stop leave that nasty stuff and trash it you loose a few gallons but will have 10-11 gallons of cleared good mash to put in the pot
thanks and greetings from England
Thanks for supporting the channel...Shine On
I have a small 3 gallon Vevor and it's a solid little still. It'll make a good quart of shine if i use that 15% rum turbo yeast
Yep I wanna get a 5 gallon now to do research and development with instead of mashing in a 30 gallon mash 😆
Thanks for excellent video. I'm planning to use it for a first time and would like to ask , if after the run do i need to release pressure or i can just leave it to col down And if yes how can i do it?. Thanks again
I would because when you run a thumper it's a closed system just when your done running cut your heat and carefully open the lid on your pot it will be hot and watch out for the steam but that will prevent anything from happening
This is the best review ive seen in a long time. How much heads did you throw off
I believe it was right around 1 quart but heads and foreshots are the same to me I toss them both this was a small run only around 8 gallons of mash...Thank you for supporting the channel...Shine On
I wanna know if ya used it as a thumper or a slobber box?when I first started out I used sumin very similar to this and slobber box is the way to go atleast on your first few runs if ya ask me that way your shine ain't cloudy or janky lookin so I wanted to know do ya use it as a thunder or slobber box in this here video?
I used it as a thumper this vevor still comes with a attachable down spout so you can run it as a thumper or a slobber box I always prefer to use thumpers to help infuse flavor or help clean the spirit up alittle in this video I just added some of the mash and grains to the thumper....Shine On
Can copper mesh be added to the thump keg to help with sulfur?
Yes you can it will definitely help with removing sulfur compounds such as dimethyl trisulphide (DMTS)
I just got a buy one get 1 free special on my first Vevor kit. 2x 8 gallon kits for a total of $61 bucks... should be here in 2 more days. REviews were great.
Hell yeah that's awesome and a killer deal you will love it A awesome starter still. I really appreciate your support. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask
@@TheShineshack Whats the best way to clean out a new still? I was thinking a 50/50 vinegar wash... followed by a sacrificial sugar run... with that said.. in an 8 gallon kit to clean it.. how many gallons should i put thru? IE 8 gallon tub... so like 4 gallons?
Just do a 50/50 blend of vinegar and water. You don't have to do a sacrificial run. If you do, you can keep the liquor that comes off of it if you like how it tastes. If you don't want to run vinegar you can do a sacrificial run but you don't have to do both
Yep, I would do 2 gallons of vinegar and 2 gallons of water run it hard with no water in the condenser. Let it pour steam for 20 to 30 minutes, cut it off. Rinse it out with water and you're ready to make liquor brother
Thanks for a great video
Thanks for watching...Shine On
@TheShineshack I ran my 13.5 yesterday for second time 80% in pot dbl 1/2 gallon mason jar thumpers I made myself old grain recipe I got off a friend in Arkansas 14-17% higher proof outcome I believe using the thumpers as my 13.5 only had a worm when bought.
Nice finish for the $ on unit. I usually batch 25- 40 gallons at a time I hate being thirsty 😁
Hell yeah sounds good they are awesome stills for the price that's how I am also can't ever run out 😂
What was your citric acid to water ratio? I got a 50l with a builtin heater and need to clean it. I use citric acid for cooking so I would rather use that than vinegar. Great video too, thanks.
Thank you .....I use 4 Tbsp of citric acid per gallon of water then I fill the still up to about 1/3 of the capacity and run it hard I let it blow steam for 20 minutes then shut it off and rinse with water It works well... Using vinegar works to but the smell is so strong and will last for days 😂...Shine On
I have a jet propane burner. What’s your thoughts on using that? Probably run to hot with that. Idk
That's all I use is a 150,000 BTU jet burner and I love it definitely will work just fine
I been making mead an want to get into moonshine. Is the purpose for the thumper to add old mash to get like a secondary run?
Awesome well you got the mashing in part pretty much down pat then...But not really the thumper helps clean your spirit up some also helps raise your proof a little but you can also use it to infuse flavor into your spirit especially on a brandy but even on grains you can infuse sweet corn or even mash Etc but you can fill it about 1/3 - 1/2 full with high proof likker, tails, mash, water, flavoring etc they are very versatile you can also run a still without a thumper and leave it empty to use it as a slobber box which acts as a catch container in case your still pukes
First off love the videos!!! but i have a question as a first time moonshiner. My first run i over heated my mash and me shine came out fast and the i struggled to cool my still back down and ended up messing up my whole first run! any tips on how to heat your still from the beginning and maintain the temperature you want? i have a similar set up to this one i just have the 8 gallon and im using a turkey burner to heat my still, and there is not alot of info on how slowly to heat your still and maintain the temps you want. LOVE THE CHANNEL AND KEEP MAKING THESE AWSOME VIDEOS!
Thank you for supporting the channel I really appreciate that .....first off make sure not to over fill your pot I wouldn't put no more than 6 gallons of mash in there head space is important I go by touch and feel of the still to know where I'm at by touching the pot and line arm but if it's your first run I would do when you fire up keep your fire really low just make sure your temperature is rising id say 5-10 degrees every 5 minutes is good to start once you see your temperature get around 155-160 you know your very close I would back the fire down even more you will start running around 172°-185° F it varies from still to still once it starts to run adjust your heat to keep your likker steam The thickness of a matchstick that's what you want. That's optimal as long as you hold it there, you'll be good for your whole run. As you get deep into your run and the ABV and the pot starts to drop. You will have to bump your heat up a little here and there because the temp that the alcohol requires to evaporate will go up as the ABV drops because there's more water in your pot at that point then alcohol And that should do you. If you ever heat up too fast The best thing to do is cut your fire way down as low as it'll go and allow your still to cool down and then turn your fire back up to get it where you want. I hope this helps. It's definitely a learning experience, but I promise with each run you'll gain more knowledge. That's the only way to learn is by doing
@@TheShineshack thanks so much for the info helps more than you know and keep bringing the great content much love and shine on!

I've got one of these stills. They work pretty good.
I've got a question though. If I run a 5-6 gal mash should I add water to lessen the headspace or will it be ok to run as it is?
Thanks.
You can run it as is, but the more head space you have, the less you should rely on that thermometer... Because it's so far above the liquid. You could get a smaller still by vevor for small runs.
@@soyourwifewantsyouto that's what I was thinking about. Thanks for the advice.
@soyourwifewantsyouto it ran perfectly. I love this still but I want one like Reds.
@@donlintor reds is pretty cool indeed!
You can run it as is but usually me personally I don't like to. There is so much head space it causes a lot of reflux to happen in your pot. Your proof will be higher but a lot of your flavor will be stripped. You can add a gallon or 2 of water to help it won't hurt. You will still get your alcohol out of your mash your just increasing your mash volume...Shine On
Can you use a conventional stove for this? Or do you need something like a induction plate or burner?
You definitely can for the smaller versions like the 5 and 8 gallon the 13 gallon is a decent size I would recommend getting a big burner or even a propane burner that's a lot of weight when full and running
I started with an 8 gallon Vevor pot, and still use it sometimes. Thinking of getting this exact pot but use my thumper and worm. If only it had a little bit of dome on the lid with a 2" connection.
Can make it have whatever you need with enough creativity 🔨
I totally agree. I was a pipe welder for 30 years before I retired. I bought a 15 gallon keg a month ago for my upgrade. I hope to buy a grain cooker next. All electric.
@@jblob5764
I actually bought a 1.5" 90 and tri-clover connection to .75", and use my own thumper and worm for the 8 gallon pot I have.
@@jblob5764
Yep I have a 18.5 gallon vevor football column still also they really are good stills especially for the price you can't beat it...You could have a 2" tri clamp welded on top
How long does that run take you? Once it starts condensing, I mean?
Excellent video how much do you put it thumper? and can you use solids and liquids??
I usually fill it roughly 1/3 the way full and yes you can put liquids and grains and fruits in the thumper but I recommend atleast breaking them up some because there has been incidents where blueberries have clogged the inlet in the thumper and then you have a dangerous situation on your hands so just make sure that can't happen and your good to go I use my thumper alot to put fruit and grains from the mash in it really adds to the flavor profile
Awesome video in a full run what would be you're average return not included heads
In this still about 3 quarts to 1 gallon depending on what your ABV is in your mash
I just ordered one of these 13 gallon pots, what size copper line runs out of the pot?
Looks to be a 3/8 in copper pipe this still worked amazingly for the price definitely a good deal
Mine is ordered and will be here Saturday. How much citric acid did you use in that 4 gallons of water to clean it? Thanks!
Awsome welcome to the Moonshine Brotherhood Use 8 tablespoons citric acid for 4 gallons of water or use 2 gallons vinegar and 2 gallons of water both ways work great
@@TheShineshack appreciate it- been using a 1.5 gallon pot still for a few years but wanted to ramp up on a budget- this one seems good for now. Got a couple mashes ready.
I bought the 5 gallon setup. It didn't have the pipe for the inside of the thumper. Assuming I can make one, does it go on the pot side or condenser side of the thumper? Also, between the adjuster on the pump not working, the drain valve being too small, and the condenser pot being so small if I set the flow rate low enough to not overflow it heated up really fast. I had to make a longer worm and put it in a much bigger pot, with a larger drain valve because the water is pumped in with pressure but drains by gravity.
Other than that, it's alright.
You would put the down spout for the thumper on the pot side your pipe comes out of the top of your pot down to the bottom of your thumper the condenser side needs to be flush with the lid...When I run the 13 gallon the condenser does great but you have to have good cold water going in the condenser but the worm is on the smaller side for sure but for the price it's a killer still I hope this helps....Shine On
@@TheShineshack yes thank you. I ended up making a bigger thumper too. My first run gave me 75-80% compared to the 40-65% I got without that downspout.
i got the 3 gal vevor gifted to me for Christmas. (never distilled before) how much head space should i leave in it?
I wouldn't put but 2-2.5 gallons in it to leave enough head space so it doesn't puke
excatly what is was looking for, straight ro the point perfect revieuw. one question. i noticed from run off you had a filter with some dark coal looking things in it? what is that? :)
Thank you I try to do direct but informative...That is American white oak lump charcoal it helps filter out fusel oils helps to smooth a grain Spirit down I always use it when running a grain Likker
@@TheShineshack can I use pine or birch tree coal to?
Great video. I was wondering how much mash you used, How much alcohol you got from it, And what the alcohol proof was?
I only ran about 7 gallons of mash and i got roughly a little over half a gallon of good product at around 130 proof
Thanks @@TheShineshack
They lowered the price a bit to $122. Thinking about getting one just to boil and distill the well water at my cabin. Lots of tannins, it isn't pumped much and I don't want to deal with a water softener for a little used location and hauling drinking water has gotten old. Would the thumper be beneficial to purification or should I just skip that step?
That's good hey for the money you can't beat these stills by no means they are cheap but very functional and effective I use mine for small test batches
I would Skip the thumper for water Distillation
hello, i was wondering what you have sitting on top of the mason jar there ? looked like some black rocks.. charcoal ?
It is American white oak lump charcoal it's for filtering out fusel oils and stuff helps make a better spirit
It's American white oak lump charcoal it helps to remove any unwanted components and to smooth the final product out I only use it on grain based mashes
Hi there, what you´d suggest for a beginner - that one or the Vevor Model VV-PG30L-220V with that Thump Jar for longer duration in observation of efficient/professional/flexible/modern ? Many thx. for your experienced reply and best rgds. from germany :)
If your talking about the football column vevor still it is also a very good starting still the they both work great and are fairly straightforward to operate the main differences between the two is the column still is more modular meaning you can modify it easier because it is a tri clamp system and the other still is not so if you plan to upgrade your still I would go for the Vevor column still if not I would pick this one because it comes with everything you will need
THX.A LOT ! :)
No problem anytime
Hi I was wondering what is the the black rocks the liquid is dropping on?
It is filtered through American white oak charcoal it helps smooth it out and remove any unwanted substances and compounds
Can u tell me what temp u ran the still. I have the 5gal and about to run my very first ever. Thanks
I don't ever go by temperature because every still is different and every mash is different I go by off take (The amount of product output) I keep my stream at a match stick thickness the whole time but since it's your first run you can heat your still up to 173° F and keep going up 5° until you get the right off take coming out your worm it should be good by 185° then always use taste, smell, feel to make cuts I never recommend using temperature to make cuts I hope this helps...Shine On
Re: the worm/condensor, if you keep the cold water intake going, and never touch the top valve, how do you stop it from overflowing? Keep it open?
I just keep the top value wide open then you adjust the bottom (cold water inlet) to keep your condenser good and cold if you close off the top your trapping hot water in your condenser
@TheShineshack thanks a lot! Idk why but on my first attempt i followed the instructions that were translated from Chinese and literally had it backwards. Had I just thought about it common sense would've prevailed but I thought i couldnt go wrong following instructions lol.
The top valve needs to be bigger to compensate for the intake being under pressure. When I slowed the intake enough to not overflow the water got hot in a couple of minutes.
@@darreldhs3426 Thanks! I've since found another video where a guy explained he had the same issue as I, and simply 'pulled' on the outtake line, creating a siphon/suctiion and it worked perfectly for me. What you said makes perfect sense, but I'm not too keen on increasing the size of it, but plan to build a new condensor in the future and will keep your advice in mind. Thanks again!
How big was your water reservoir for your worm? You said no ice, just tap water?
For the vevor still I just put the hose pipe from my spring box into a 5 gallon bucket then pumped it to the worm on my Big copper pot I just hooked the hose pipe for my spring straight to the worm. I don't recirculate. I found it better just to let the water hit the ground. I generally only waste about 50 gallons during a run I got tired of buying so much ice 😂 But when I did recirculate and use ice I had a 55 gallon drum. I cut in half so about 35 gallons and I'd fill it up every run and add ice

I am just trying to make distilled water. I just got the vebor 13.2 gallon. I've never done this b4. I had my stove at 200° F. Ran it for 2 hrs and nothing came out. I was trying to just run water fist to see how it works then I was going to clean it. I already washed everything. Ater I ran the water I was going to run vinegar. Then water again b4 making my first batch. Can you please help. Am I not running it hot enough? I really don't know what I'm doing wrong.
If it was just water you didn't have it hit enough water doesn't evaporate until 212°F maybe a little hotter to get it through the still when running mash like I do the Alcohol in the mash has a lower evaporation temperature of 173°F so it starts running at a lower temperature
13 gallons is alot for a stove to it may take awhile to get to the 212°F or high you may need a propane burner or a bigger induction type plate I hope this helps if you have any other questions feel free to ask
@TheShineshack thank you so much. I figured it was not hot enough. I got it to 200° in less than 30 minutes. It's an induction stove. It gets really hot very quickly. I can bring it all the way to 526°. I'm using the water for making cosmetics. Distilled water has gotten way to expensive. I figured this would bring the cost down. Thank you for your input
Absolutely my wife has one for making distilled water 😁
How would you recommend someone clean it after a run?
I rinse mine out and put it up. Super easy. A SS pot is my favorite for this reason.
All I ever do is rinse with water especially SS and even my copper pot I just rinse and let air dry if I think it's getting dirty I will leave the backset in the still over night and it looks Brand new in the morning backset is so acidic it cleans great
I have an 8 gallon vevor for an emergency. How do I judge when I'm past heads and how do I know I'm getting close to tails? I heard you can get sick if you drink the heads or the tails.
Heads will make you have a bad hangover the next day but want kills you and you can drink tails they want hurt you they just don't taste good you can blend a little in your hearts for flavor if you like what you're tasting but your heads will be very harsh and sharp smelling just like acitone when you get into hearts you will notice that harshness will fade away and will smell sweeter and more grain forward as you get into tails it will start to smell musty like wet cardboard or even wet dog and will be very oily sometimes you will even see the oils separateing on top inside the jar not plesent that's when you make your tails cut always go by taste, touch, smell when running your still and making cuts keep sampling occasionally throughout your whole run if your new to makeing cuts or aren't sure you can collect in small jars and go back to it the next day to sample them to make your cuts it does get easier the more you do it I hope this helps...Shine On
@@TheShineshackthanks for taking the time man; appreciate you be safe
your funnel set up,, whats it all concist off
You taking about the filter the shine goes through before it goes in the jar? If so it's cheese cloth and American white oak lump charcoal it really helps filter out any unwanted flavors or compounds on a grain based run
What temperature do you want your pot at?
I don't go by temperature I go by off take what's coming out the worm keep your steam the size of a match stick and your good to go when I'm heating up I go by touch and feel chase the vapor through your still but I can give you a general temp 180°F -190°Fif your temp goes over 200°F it's way to hot unless your at your tails you will be around 200°F-210°F the lower the ABV in the pot gets throughout the run the more heat it takes and the higher the boiling point will be
How do you know when to shut off? No more drips?
When you start to taste smell and feel that your getting into the tails of the run I dont keep tails they are very oily and cloudy and taste really nasty like wet cardboard usually they will show up between 100-90 proof and the charcoal is just American white oak charcoal I use it on grain runs to help remove fusil oils and helps to smooth the product out
thanks

How long does a full 10 gallon run take with this still with a propane burner. I'm interested in using it to make distill water so I know the time will be a bit different, but a ball park figure would be nice. I currently purchase about 10-20 gallons of distilled water a month, and it would be nice if I could just take a few hours to refill my old jugs once or twice a month.
3-4 hours you can run it pretty fast if your just distilling water so maybe less than that
@@TheShineshack Thanks, I didn't think it would be that fast. That definitely works for my purposes.

About 1 gallon of 130 proof average but I am very vigorous when it comes to cuts

It's hardwood lump charcoal it helps filter out any harsh tasteing compounds that may be left in the final product helps to smooth it out it's just something I always do when running any grain mash
Where's the video on what to use
Sorry I don't understand your question ?
How much does it make?
Will it make 3 gallons in one run
No not the 13 gallon still depending on what your starting gravity in your mash is (sugar content) Id say you will get between 3/4 - 1.5 gallons of good hearts after making heads and tails cuts but if you do multiple stripping run then a spirit run you could definitely get 3 gallons of hearts from your spirit run This is an Awesome still to start out with and learn the craft
How full can I fill my thumper
I recommend 1/3 full you can go a little over but always save room because throughout the run it will fill up some on its own a little
Man i need some help putting this thing together please help!
What's wrong?
I think I got it how full can I fill my thumper
I recommend not filling it more that 1/3 full
I have watched 3 other vevor still videos trying to figure out this darn thing and then I found yours. I was getting pretty frustrated. One thing I would add is a detailed video of where everything screws in and how. The instructions don't tell you ANYTHING. One little blurry picture is all that is in there... then recipes.
You are correct the instructions are lacking for sure I tried to be as thorough as possible what are you having trouble with ?
I am sorry to disagree with the reviewer, I tried this still out and found it cumbersome and problematic. If one wants a really simple and easy to use still you cannot go part the Still Spirits Pro Air Still. Gave vevor away for next to nothing.
Everyone has their own style and what they like and their is absolutely nothing wrong with that I have a air still my self I use for doing small flavor infusion test runs on me personally I'm a big copper pot kinda person 😂 but from a beginner or budget friendly point of view I love it any still that gets you into the hobby and you enjoy is a awesome still thanks for your input...Shine On
If you're serious about getting i to the hobby.
Dont buy vevor. Maybe as a starter.
Exactly I only recommend the vevor for a beginner to learn on but a lot of people stick with a vevor due to budget or lack of space and that's ok to it will get the job done as long as your running Likker 😁 I myself prefer copper pot still
your videos have gotten small
Im sorry about that I try to keep them below 15 mins that's usually the longest most viewers will watch
Not the length, the actual picture. Watch this on a PC.
It's got black bars on top and bottom
@@Kenny-Whisnant I'm glad you told me this I see it now when I click to make it full screen it's only a little box about 3 weeks ago I got a new phone with better camera for filming so that's when it started I just went back in my videos to check I will play in the settings and definitely get that fixed I just filmed another video today to it's probably the same ☹️
I have that issue fixed now 😁
