- The Iconic BMW E46 M3 CSL is one of the best M3's EVER made! What makes the M3 CSL so great is the sound from the carbon intake, its raspy exhaust note, fantastic acceleration coupled with lightweight carbon panels and wheels the M3 CSL truly will go down as one of BMW's great cars! Heres my review and thoughts on why i love the e46 m3 csl so much!

@@StefABtv A couple of years ago I went to Goodwood Festival of Speed. I was talking with one of the top guys from Porsche UK about getting a 911 GTS. He laughed and told me not to bother unless I was buying a GT3, but I wouldn't be able to get the kids in a GT3.

I own a M3 CSL since 2012 and love this car, just can't get enough of this airbox sound. It was my dream car since I saw it the first time in 2003.
The SMG is a small disadvantage but you get used to it.

You can convert the CSL to manual. Which makes the car perfect.
I reckon the E46 is the best looking M3- but the CSL model is iconic , and thus prices are now way out of reach especially if you want a pristine one !
I had an E46 M3 with an SMG gearbox, and as long as you treat it like a manual without a clutch pedal, rather than a paddle-shift auto, it's actually a pretty fun gearbox. On the CSL it's the ultimate.

My all time best car, my dad used to have one and I loved it, had it for 8 years some ass hole hit my dad from the back then 6 years later again from the front and it was taken🤧 but I still today have the keys for it and I’m 16! Love from day one R.I.P E46 2009-2017

I had e46 m3 about 10years ago(I sold recently). I'm still looking for e46 m3 csl used one like you. unfortunately, I have never seen e46 m3 csl near my place(in South Korea) ,and I would like to say the big difference between normal and csl is the insane carbon air intake system and (exhaust system) the size is bigger than normal e46 m3.

No wonder its still very expensive in South Africa after all these years,Sheer dynamic pleasure,excellent handling,feather like body weight,stunning 19 inch wheels,weightless Alcantara seats,no air condition(if I'm not wrong,for weight shedding) ,no radio/CD system(if I'm not wrong for weight shedding)As for me,this is the best sound from the straight 6 Cylinder m3 engine to date.... Much respect to those Engineers..... BMW M division is yet to make an accomplished, well polished Engine to match this masterpiece.BMW was still involved in Formula 1 during this car's production phase(If I'm not wrong, HA HA HA HA HA)
Its got more to do with the individual throttles than a composite box made for high rpm.

Love the E46, I like that color for sure but Laguna Seca Blue is my favorite color. I'd have a standard E46 M3 in LSB, 6 speed and those wheels and ofcoarse the tail!

I had an LSB until last year... very tough to get a good one nowadays but it absolutely is an incredible colour

Hi Stef, so once you suss SMG, it is actually pretty awesome huh? I appreciate you have to 'work' a bit harder compared to modern day paddle shift, but I the logical choice of BMW to make CSL SMG only is pretty telling huh. Can you explain why so many people hate SMG in the standard M3, but universally agree the CSL is a totally magnificent icon??

SMG unfortunately was always iffy. Brilliant when working , a pig to fix when not. E46 manual was the best looking m car ever to me!

M3 CSL is 1,385kg , 110 kg lighter than regular M3.
17 HP and 5nm more powerful engine due to sharper profile camshafts, a bigger air intake with carbon fibre manifold, a refinement of the exhaust manifold, and slightly different exhaust valves.
More advanced drivelogic software package that makes gearshifts so much faster.

BMW M3 E46 CSL : 7:50 (Even faster than V8 E92 M3 (8:05))
@@burak6685 Only the zero option cars are 1385kg and BMW cheated a bit, as the way they got that measurement isn't the way they normally give car weights. It was with just 10 litres of fuel and no driver. Normally their weights are quoted with a 75kg driver and 90% tank of fuel (EU) or DIN (without the 75kg driver, but still 90% fuel). The car that set the 7.50 lap actually came in at 1426kg (full tank of fuel), no driver. Very few cars were ever specced in the way the 'Ring car was (only 7 of the 422 in the UK came with zero options), so they are considered the "Unicorn" versions. You will also find that the 110kg weight difference to a normal M3 is also conservative, as most normal M3s are optioned to the hilt and come in at 1570kg with a sunroof (weighed in the same way as the CSL). I believe this is the difference between a fully optioned CSL and a zero optioned M3 (as in the worst case scenario for the CSL and best case scenario for the M3), so the difference tends to be greater than 110kg in most cases. I managed to get my fully optioned car down to 1398kg by swapping out the very heavy standard exhaust for a Supersprint LWR system and the brakes to APs all round (alloy callipers instead of cast pig iron ;) and 2-piece front discs with a lighter aluminium bell :). Again that was just with 10 litres of fuel and no driver.
This CSL doesn't have the original Michelin Pilot tyres... The original looks like slick tyres
