I’m taking a two week solo trip to Bali next month and in preparation have watched countless hours of travel videos which up until this point have all felt the same. But this….THIS is genuine, it’s authentic and it’s what I want my experience to be like. Exploring the island, eating some good food, Vibin’ with the locals and getting a true taste of the culture. Awesome video man!
The vibes in this epsiode were off the charts, it's amazing how quickly someone can go from being a stranger to a friend. Glad to see you check #1 off your bucket list and thank you for being you!
That was an interesting yet awkward moment at the end of the video. I’m glad the boy was open to discussing things with you. While caste remains a part of Balinese society, it is not as rigid as in India. For instance, unlike in India, there are no Dalits in Bali whom people refuse to touch. As the boy mentioned, caste differences rarely impact daily life in Bali-except when it comes to marriage. Marrying outside one’s caste is very difficult, though not impossible, largely because Balinese society remains deeply family-oriented. Interestingly, Balinese people are generally more accepting of marriages to non-Hindus or Indonesians from other regions than of inter-caste marriages among Hindu Balinese themselves. Cheers from the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan! 🍻
The Balinese caste system is a social hierarchy that classifies people into different groups based on their social status. The caste system is part of Balinese Hinduism and has been in place since the kingdom's days. The four castes, from lowest to highest, are: 1. Sudras: The peasant caste, which includes farmers and laborers 2. Wesias: The merchant caste, which also includes administrative officials 3. Satrias: The warrior caste, which also includes some nobility and kings 4. Brahmanas: The priest caste, which includes religious leaders and spiritual ceremony leaders Caste System in Bali | Brahmana, Ksatria, Wesya, and Sudra The caste system affects how people interact with each other in daily life. For example, people may speak in a softer, more respectful language to people of higher castes. There are also restrictions on inter-caste marriage. While the caste system is still present in Balinese culture, it's becoming less relevant. Some say that the caste system is no longer a determinant of success, but it can still be found in daily life
