@J Gav no it doesn't lol??? it doesn't make mathematical sense to do this - you literally said these are independent events, which means you understand that the probabilities are not effected. still might be living in a simulation though
@J Gav no it doesn't - the chance of you calling it right or wrong is always 50/50, (If i'm wrong correct me I don't mean to be rude, I just doon't see your pooint)
ok it makes sense it terms of "breaking the streak" but if your only goal is to win as many coin flips as you can in the casino - there's no point, as you don't effect the probability of winning the coin toss and it's always 50/50.
In both Craps and Blackjack I’ve found that my banking stradegy is way more important than anything else. When I begin to win, i pocket (my buddy and I call it rat holing) my initial bank. If I keep winning I pocket black chips and continue to play with my winnings. When I lose whatever is in the rail or on the table, I leave. The hard part is not returning. I won’t until the next day. If I lose my initial bankroll right away, I’m done for that day.
James Clary same principles used in stock trading. Some people initially risk 2% of total capital on 1 trade. If correct can sell some stock to pocket profit. If all the 2% lost get out of the trade altogether and reenter trade with an edge on another day.
If you play advantage, the casinos actively find ways to try to kick out out. They often don't even care how immoral the methods they take to kick people out are. I've heard of some pretty bad horror stories from advantage players. Which is why I like to stick to poker and play black jack occasionally at places I know I will never go to again.
Blackjack fascinates me to no end. Good thing I've never played for money, because I have terrible impulse control. I don't think it would be a good thing for me to gamble money.
Don’t fall down that hole, i hated gambling until I was 21, went to a casino with a group of friends for his bday and ended up hitting a hot streak over a week. Needless to say overall I’m down massively to the casino and developed a life long addiction to blackjack. I only gamble for fun now with the hopes of making a couple hundred bucks per trip, I also try not to spend more than 1 to 1.5 hours in a casino anymore, quickest I left was after I went up $300 after 15 mins but the problem is besides the money, you get addicted to the adrenaline of playing blackjack so even though I was up and left my “addiction” wasn’t anywhere close to satisfied. You also get desensitized to gambling large amounts of money per hand, the chips really disassociate it from real money and next thing you know you’re playing $100-300 hands as a gambler and not an AP. The worst thing that can happen to a person that’s never gambled before is hitting big on their first trip.
You're always going to be up at some point. Not many people can just walk away. It's really hard to leave when your hot. That's why, alot of people end up losing.
Wrong! You are NOT ALWAYS going to be up at some point! Approximately … (did you catch that secret word “Approximately?) … 52 Percent of the time you sit at a table you will never be “Up” from your initial “buy-In” amount. However - I do remember Benny Binions Horseshoe before there were table “Maximum” limits, when in theory if you had a big enough bankroll and started out with a $2 bet ( or a relatively low amount in relation to your starting bankroll ) that you in theory, could . The funny thing about that is I don’t remember any BJ player back then breaking the bank!
what about when you think your up, your just winning back the loses that you've lost in the past. so i think to myself im coming here just to try and withdraw money I've donated in the past
There is one other aspect of this though. By not pushing wins and taking a smaller profit each day you can prolong the amount of time before you get banned as a card counter. As a floor supervisor in a Midwest casino, I only saw one card counter who was known as an advantage player but was still allowed to play. The reason management didn't stop him is because he played until he won 300 to 500 and then left. He would do this a couple of times each week. This literally went on for years.
Change “win” to “lose” you got exactly the strategy the casino employs to make big money: let people spend a lot of time in your place, to allow the probability which is in the houses’s favour stack up and even out any potential big wins for people who got lucky.
Some card counters flatbet during a negative shoe, waiting for the shuffle... but the card flow may never change, it can be another negative shoe for the card counter.... so it's best to just leave the game!
Today I was back counting and for the first time ! I had the count right counted about 3-4 decks. With a running 12 was to scared to bet more the 3x my bet however I am proud I had a good count. Bunch of high card started to come out !
@@Six66Occultthat’s incorrect. For true count you divide by the # of decks that are remaining. So if it’s 8 deck and about 2 decks have been dealt, you would divide your running count by 6 (remaining decks).
What's funny is everyone thinks they can count cards and have a higher percent chance of winning over time. The house will always have the edge and that's because you have to hit or not hit first it's as simple as that.
Depending on how much I put down I always walk away from the table when I reach 2x or sometimes push to 3x my money. I walk away everytime no questions asked. I started this at the beginning of 2023 and I've had about 70% positive days and am up for the year.
That is great but if you do that long enough you will eventually have sessions where from the moment you sit down you will lose 10 hands in a row. The odds are against you and eventually variance will catch up
@@ststst981 statistically true, but the calculations for odds while obviously favoring the house, can still always land in the favor of the player. I'm trying to say that odds become house favored over more play obviously, so if he's not playing that much, he runs less hands, resulting in what could be a higher spread than 51/49 in an infinite vacuum. His portion of the vacuum, lets say 500 hands per year could be 30/70 if he's very lucky. If he plays an infinite amount of time, sure he'll lose a bit, but this isn't a vacuum.
@@OverAchieverStudios"sure he will lose A BIT..." =) when peasants ask you about probability, they never ask you words they say. They never want to know if they can win once, they want to know if they can have bad habit to spend money at casino for the rest of their lives. Only answer is " you are cant" =) With strongest british accent. You just cant read comments from army of players who wasnt lucky enough, because they are to busy at 12h a day job now, and cant write a comments.
Stopping while you are ahead is nothing more than a psychological tactic. If you never plant to play again, then good, You are a winning blackjack player. If you are a legit AP with a perfect game, you want to put in hours and hours... then put in more hours.
Instead of everyday I've been coming about 2 to 3 times a week over the last 3 weeks. Up about 1500. About 500 bucks a week so digging it so far. I'm trying to win smart, not quick.
@@RealTwistedTwin I have! I've been only going twice a month now. Just won 1200 on Monday and last month 800. I know it's not much but it definitely helps with the bills
One of your best videos so far. It’s naturally unintuitive because the casinos need it to be. If we walk in and out of the casino reminding ourselves of these facts, you might get a little more sleep that night (if you’re not busy coughing up the effects of second hand smoke).
This is 100% true, but, sometimes if Im on a few day losing streak, if I get up a couple hundred, early, I may leave just for the psychological feeling of leaving that building on a win. (Im still a red chipper a year in). I actually did this today. Played 2 shoes and left.
When you play a winning game of blackjack with a 1% advantage, it is like winning 101 hands and losing 99. You will be ahead by 2 hands out of every 200. This means that you cannot avoid the losing hands as they will almost cancel out the winning hands. There is no way to avoid having the losing hands even though it can make you feel upset that have had a big losing session. Oh just have to realise that your early days of blackjack may mean your results will dip below zero. In a worst case scenario, you may have to play for up to 1500 to 2000 hours before your results overall get over the line and start to become positive. At the start of my bj play, I lost $7,000 on a red chip spread for 300 hours of play. I wondered if there was something I wasn’t doing right. Later I learned that 300 hours is not enough for the winning hands to balance out the losing hands. I returned to the table and subsequently went on a winning streak of $40,000 and remained at this level of win for 100 hours. Then I went on a losing streak of $30,000 to be up only $3000. I really had to sit back and take stock of what had occurred. Finally I realised that the $3000 dollars I was up at that point, was the normal ev for my bet spread at those hours so everything was actually on track!
@@geoffpearce889 If i Won $40,000 i would never go to Casino again. I never liked blackjack i only play Baccarat and Poker. Baccarat has a higher house edge but i can predict the patterns and bet bigger on Streaks.
also, the perks! Last year was my first year. This year, I get 4 free nights in Bahamas, 1 cruise to Caribbean, 3 free nights at any Boyd Las Vegas casino every quarter.
@@jjnguyen8809 Take my word for it man, through time and hours played the game changes. I’ve gotten drilled at the bj table. But if you play right consistently you will win. Sometimes it feels like I’m being cheated lol
Dang, I didn't even know this was an actual thing that other people thought about doing haha, love that you made an entire video about it! You rock Colin! Funnily, I had that same thought too before I really learned about card counting but quickly came to the same conclusion that odds don't care if it's the next day or the same day and don't therefore magically reset themselves :D If odds are against you and you're going to be losing more than you win, you will be losing more than you win regardless of how you split up those days by calendar date.
And even more broadly, the odds don't care how many people are playing, across however many tables, across the planet, on whatever days or all days or every second day. The odds are still the odds, and at the basic game, they are 50.5% in the casino's favor. In fact, the casino prefers more hands to be played, because the monetary size of the 0.5% is larger, and variance is reduced with every hand that's dealt.
The logic this video presents is you can't expect the next day to be the same as the first one because the likely hood of repeating a winning trend is not predictable. That being said, since each event is a separate event just as each card hand is a separate event, the probability that you will have a winning day is the same as it was the day before. If you are up a few hundred dollars at ANY point and walk away, it is the same opportunity any other day.
@@Julia-fc4mp There always seems to be this assumption that the law of averages will always work out over time but this is not always true since an individual is only going to experience a small sample size compared to what I assume are billions of games played at casinos around the world every day. The law of averages is more likely to work through for the casino than the player because of the sheer number of trials. A single player is a small fraction of that. Not a card counter or even a heavy gambler but bankroll management has been more important than anything else for my gambling trips. Chasing the goal of $300 a day is more likely to lead to losses than anything else.
Probability doesn't change if you prolong it; however, leaving and taking breaks to put you in a better headspace might be beneficial to you not making stupid decisions, if you sway from your strategy due to tilt
Lol he is wrong, day 1 and 2 are independent events therefore day 1 (probability) doesn’t affect day 2’s probability. (1/4) + (1/4) = 2/8 = 1/4 as you can see it comes back to the same thing..
Doug styles - Bosses notice when your bet ramp is ridiculous. That is what I found they notice the most. Wonging in and out of low stakes tables doesn’t get noticed in my experience.
@@cloudstreets1396 True. I sometimes sit at the $10 tables and will fluctuate bets depending on my co-players play, and how the shoe is going. I dont go over $50 though at the low limit . Bosses always tend to linger around those tables.
I've been playing 30 years walk out up 90% of the time. It's all about control. Counting is not the only way to win. I'm also not trying to break the casino. My biggest win is 9k my biggest lose is 1k normally my stop loss is 500 dollars
You are absolutely correct sir. Setting a win goal is one of the strongest tools when playing BJ. This analogy Collin is making does not apply. You are not playing one hand per session like a coin flip. Counters are so deep into their method they can’t see other strategies.
Colin, I love your approach to BJ for all of us with varying levels of skills. I know that I will never be a card counter, so I appreciate your attention to those of us who are simply playing good basic strategy and doing the best that we can.
@@mqrkusbrand5494 @tier1solutions28 you guys are ridiculous. Nowhere did he say he wanted to beat a casino. He said he knew he would never dedicate to counting. Mastering basic strategy is next best thing to at least have a bit of drop in, drop out fun. The way OP worded his post it sounds like he follows this channel for fun. Do you think you're enlightening anybody here on anything they didn't already know? Sheesh.
Sure the only way to win over time is with positive expected value, but for those of us with no inclination for card counting, playing perfect basic strategy and trying to walk away with $100 a day is not a bad way to play. Many times you will win and will build up your bankroll to perhaps allow you to play longer before losing all your initial capital. Not everyone wants to be a professional player
I’ve been having some good luck doing 2 real simple things. 1- I printed out the basic strategy chart for my casino rules and brought it 2- I find a card counter, preferable a good one just by searching. Telltale signs are people who sit out and then join in wnd repeat… they bet min, then bet high…Then I copy their bets. Takes no skill and it’s been working good
I'm not a card counter but that definitely works I would bet big once i see GOOD HI cards then ill wait/sit out for couple rounds. once i start losing 15$ & until i see them big cards again and something in my stomach would tell me to bet then I'll win i kept doing this i was up 200$ but didn't know how to cash out, and security came by to watch me play so i lost it all in one play them big mfs got me nervous 😅
Thank you for everything Colin , I counted a whole 6deck shoe, ended count on zero. I definitely took a lot of advantage of the dealer during a game , thank you for showing me the basics of card counting

I've been doing basic strategy on bj since 2020 lockdown, started with 100 and now at 5600. I know it doesn't sound alot but slow and steady wins the race. Not gambling every day, maybe every 3 days
So yes, you have a very good point. HOWEVER, I’ve been doing this. Now I keep a basic total and play off casino money. Walk in $150, leave $400-$750 pocket $500, and go back and do it again. It’s worked so far for me🤷🏼♂️
i go to the casino, im a college student, and i just play to play. I enjoy playing and i bring around 50-100 and if i double my money, i go. every once and a while ill lose it in 3 minutes but sometimes ill get to 500-600. i enjoy playing and if i make the 100 last a couple hours im happy because i try playing with house money.
If you play with blackjack all you will ever get is play money. If you treat it like a business then it will reward you handsomely. Remember, other people pay huge taxes on their incomes, but as a winning blackjack player with a win rate of say, $50 an hour, who plays 25 hours a week, that’s a tax free income of $1250 per week. And if you can get away with a bigger bet spread, that could easily be 100 to $200 an hour winrate.
@@geoffpearce889 very true, a few days after I commented, i went to the casino started with 50 and left with 2k. cashed out and got a new PC for school :)
Marty I recommend that you start with the website www.blackjackapprenticeship.com/ And go from there. Make sure that BJ is a good fit in your life before committing to a bootcamp. Good luck
Just beware if a casino has good security and a dealer who has been taught good game security, counters ALWAYS give themselves away. If u take them for a lot of money u run the chance of being banned from that casino and believe me, they share pics of you with other casinos
I’ve gone into different casinos every day for about a month using nothing but basic strategy, would leave my atm card at home and only bring cash that I’ve already made from BJ, took home 3-400 cash every single day
Not to mention battling the psychological effects on a daily basis. If you are off one day you will eventually make a big mistake like not being able to walk away. The casino counts on this too.
the best way to fight this is to go to the casino extremely hungry. I hit the casino this year over 80 times winning a few hundred a time. I just got my win lose it was +26k
Colin I finished reading your book about a week ago and of the 10 or so books I've read on blackjack your book is close to the top. This includes beating books from Rick Blaine, Max Rubin, Standford Wong, Ian Anderson, Arnold Snyder and Olaf Vancurra. its a very different book in that it assumes the reader knows the basics of card counting. Some of the stories were hilarious and shocking and it was a fun read and I have to admit towards the end it even had me in tears particularly on your philosophy on family and people being enjoyed and money being used. Well done. (and maybe at a bootcamp we can play some real money monopoly if you know what I'm saying)
Any APs in the central Indiana area looking for a partner, team addition, or startup? Real dealers were just voted in as legal here in Indiana this January.
The thing i think you get wrong is that, we are not trying to win the 3 coin flips back to back to back everyday, that's obviously insane, but what i think they mean is, just playing until you're up 3 flips, it may take you 3 minutes or 1 hour, you may win 2 flip, than lose 4, than win 2, lose another 2 & than win 5 in a row, or any variation of wins or loses, i'm sure when you lost 40k in a day, there was some point in that session that you were ahead
Your average loosing streak at Black Jack is 4 hands in a row. Larger decks increase the loosing average to 5 hands. Doesn't matter. You just need to call it a day when you reach 8 loosing hands in a row. Just remember to always double or triple (if you want to money faster). Just be dissaplined that no matter when you win...start with minimum bet again and start over. It's worked for me 90 % of the time
This comment couldn’t be further from the truth, losing or winning 10 times in a row has nothing to do with the next hand, but the cards already played does affect it
You don't understand. This is like the nightingale system, except...you start minimum bet and increase 2 to 3 times your there after. No matter when you win...place minimum bet again
If you’re not greedy and can play online it’s very easy to win a couple of hands then call it a day just don’t get greedy get your 200-300 bucks and get out and do it the next day also you don’t necessarily Have to win 3 more times then your losses, You can lose 7 hands and still profit if those 7 hands are $10 bets then your 8th is a 100 dollar bet. You’ll lose more hands then you win but the profitable players win more when they’re winning and lose less when they’re losing… just my 2 cents been gambling profitably for 3 years now
Daily Roulette player here. And what I've experienced is I'm able to get a bankroll and a half before losing a bankroll. Some months I get 2 or 3 bankrolls before wiping out. But yes, the house edge will always show itself if you play enough. The right strategy could offset things in your favor but you will take some losses.
Play till you’re on top and feel that’s it for the day. Don’t expect to come in to win millions. If you come in with 500 and up 1000, walk your butt out. Reset and come back later that day or tomm.
A lot of that has to do with greed...after being up you want more and more and more....treat gambling as a business get in for 15-20 minutes and get out the longer you stay the greater the odds your gonna be in the hole
at 1:40, how do you calculate that the odds of being ahead 3 tails is over 75%? the distribution of the #head-tails is a Gaussian, so being ahead any number of tail (or head) is defenitly less that 50% (the area under the half of the bell shape Gaussian curve)
also the side bet here in Florida is "the match" .....i play the match and I generally play 3 hands at the same time....between the bonus and my hands.....easy to make a couple of $100
You explained the statistics of a coin flip pretty accurately. The intent is to have a coin that is a 52-48 lopsided coin. Given a massive timeline, your play will become so positive that you will have 0% chance of ruin. The objective is to play in a way that will get you to that massive timeline. Which means that being backed off... *EVEN ONCE* means that your play is not subtle enough to ever get to that massive timeline/theory of large numbers. I have played for roughly three years in Vegas without ever being backed off. If you are ever backed off from playing, then you need to seriously take a look at how you are playing... Because if you do it right, you are never suspected of being a counter.
@@randomperson6215 You need to play like you are a normal blackjack player, not a card counter. The BlackJack Apprentice teaches a betting method that is almost psychotic in nature, based on another UA-camr who detailed his experiences as a BlackJack counter under BJA's tutelage. Watching those videos as a counter, two things were glaringly obvious. 1) BJA knows how to count cards 2) BJA does NOT know what subtle means. His bets would give him away every time. The only people who would bet like he does when counting cards are card counters. I played for almost 3 years without ever getting backed off once. Play like someone with a betting system. Place a base bet (1 unit) and play like your system says to play. If you win and the count still warrants a larger bet then raise your bet, Bet 2 units (Let it ride). If that wins and the count is still good, let it ride again. Then go back to base bet of 1 unit and pocket half your winnings. Contrary to what BJA would recommend, this method will win money, especially in the long run because you will be able to play indefinitely. My recommendation is to play no more than three shoes at a time. Start at the beginning of a shoe, or WONG IN when the count is good. Playing from the start of a shoe is REALLY common, and watching a few hands is also OK too. If it is busy, then look for a table with only 1 maybe 2 players and sit there. Or better yet, find a location with less action. Really late, and really early are two good times you can find empty tables. In Vegas, this is found at casinos downtown or off the strip. Play during the late morning and early afternoon. Three shoes tops. Stick and Move as Apollo Creed taught Rocky. I wish you well, no matter what system you use or how you bet. Sorry BJA, but I can't endorse your way of betting as I understand it.
Sorry Colin, but I’ve actually done that. And it worked. I look for tables where there are excellent players and sit at them. Once I’m up a goal I set I leave.
I'm a small time gambler on a fixed income that's retired. I tried BJ about 4 years ago and averaged $22 per play over a 3-4 month period. Perhaps 2-3 times per week. Since in my State the nearest casinos are 30, 35 and 40 miles away in opposite directions I decided to quit. Now I'm back at it. I've been averaging $40 per play over a 2 month period. I'm working on a strategy on how to increase my minimum and maximum bets safely. It's not as simple as it sounds since I normally only play on average about a half an hour per session. I have been doing that slowly with some success. My goal right now is to get that average up to about $80 - $100 per play. Besides the basic strategy, it's the discipline that's very important. I set rules for myself and have to stick to them. I grade my play after every session. Not so much as wins and losses but my strategy.
I'm pretty educated on EV/fallacies etc. But gotta thank you for this one, the breakdown of how it is continuous over days made me feel stupid for not realising it intuitively.
What are some tips, tricks, or philosophical nuggets of wisdom for mentally and/or emotionally dealing with seemingly endless negative counts. From table to table, and shoe to shoe, a near constant stream of negative numbers.
omg thanks so much Colin, you are life saver. No wonder I can win 10 times, but one time i lose all the profits and capital because to win 'hundred bucks' a day does not work at all! That's the dream for every gambler but reality is if you are not investor, you will lose all your money eventually (gambler's ruin).
Context of question here: the issue with card counting/ basic strategy is not the wins and losses it's actually getting caught by the "eyes in the sky." You can only play soooo long before you get noticed. My question is: using math and statistics and basic strategy "what strategies can you use in your favor to NOT get noticed?" A few thoughts come to mind: using the math you have shown what if you "intentionally lose when on a losing streak," "bet/gamble to achieve a certain goal to cover monthly expenses plus some profit," or " betting certain ways to show you are not a counter."
But you're not betting you'll win 3 heads, you're betting 3 times you'll get heads on a single flip. 50% the entire time. The odds don't change. You're both cartoonishly wrong.
Hi I've followed your content over the last few years and thanks to perfect strategy I've been doing OK, however as an aspiring card counted aren't I gonna be screwed against an auto shuffled, after every 3-4 hands the spent cards are returned into the pack therefore negating any count..... Best Wishes Neil
Yes, you will be screwed, which is why you shouldn't even be playing Blackjack. Why play a game where you could have a winning hand and end up turning it into a losing hand, such as hitting a hard 12 and busting, only to see the dealer turn over a 6 under his King? Just give Baccarat a try and see if you don't like the odds better. In Baccarat, the outcome of every hand is determined the moment the cards are cut at the beginning of the shoe. With a fair-sized bankroll (3 times table max) it is a cakewalk to turn a profit EVERY TIME.
The only reason that you count cards and play blackjack is because you can actually generate a positive EV. With the continuous shuffler you can't gain a significant EV because you don't have a useful history to work off of. And as far is the reply post about baccarat, that's ridiculous. You're operating on a negative EV, just like every other house game.
I think I agree in 99% of scenarios. The only time i would disagree is when you hit certain thresholds. For example, if I'm on a hot enough streak that my bankroll is now big enough for a better strategy, I'm going to stop there. I'm going to recalculate, and come back either at a better table i can now afford, or to the same table with either higher EV, lower RoR, or maybe even both. Those times are when you should quit while ahead
So a related question. CVData will tell you the range of probable results. So say the range is given at an upper end of 90 units (just pulled that out of thin air) given a set amount of time (and we all have time constraints) and you reach 90 units at some point in your play, though you have more time allocated to play. Since the statistics say you'e unlikely to win more and you're likely to "go backwards", would it make sense to end the session? It would seem the math would say that getting up at this point wouldn't "hurt".
Personally, I wouldn’t spend any profits until I had won at least 50% of the bank roll I play at. It can feel good to buy a few nice things but it is important to build up your bankroll to play a bigger stakes game if that’s your goal.
I agree with this scenario it's just that playing for small gains lowers the risk and is possible playing perfect basic strategy and good betting procedures....I don't consider myself an advantage player but I am great at math and have a large bank roll
Haven't watched the video yet but strictly speaking as someone in the industry, the biggest winners I have witnessed ride the variance up and down and leave when they are ahead. Good money management and playing short periods of time before the edge can burn you over time is a winning strategy. Whether it's $600 a hand or $10,000 a hand. You don't have to be up 3 hands, just one. They lose of course but they tread water just enough to surface with a profit and then they leave. I have seen people up 300k over 6 months, not counting. The Casinos will usually tell them their action is just too good and back them off as a business decision. Dana White is a notable example of this method. He wrecks casinos simply with money management. And a sizeable bankroll, of course.
@@esparpos5543 Just watched it. I hate to say it but the concept is flawed. You arent hoping for 91 heads up in a row. You flip a coin every day and make a conscious decision to leave on heads, for say, 91 days. That is how you obtain 91 heads up. The common method of counting is never consider money management, generate as much EV as possible, rack up hours, and eventually the math will work out. Thats fine. If you leave on a loss however because you want a couple extra playing hours that is against logic though. The only argument against money management is it limits your potential gains by walking away early. Not true. Set a threshold, say you're up $500. You keep playing but if you are down to only being up $300, you walk. This way you leave on a profit while not limiting your expected value and hours played. Run it through a simulation because it works I see it every day. The 50/50 coin flip graph does not represent what is happening.
A professional player is not interested in trying to limit losses on a daily basis. If he/she has the bankroll, they realise that every shoe they play is building ev even if the count is negative all the way though the shoe. Even when the count is positive, you only have a slightly increased probability of winning the next hand. You are by no means certain to win the next hand. If you go on a losing streak, the pit bosses will remember that about you and may off comps to get you to come back and play some more. However when you do bounce back at that casino, win a little and move on so your winning doesn’t stand out! Eventually you will win more that you lose in many shorter sessions, but everyone will remember you as being a big loser and that is exactly the cover you want. The early days of bj are the hardest as you learn to trust in the maths. It is hard to understand that although you have just had a session where you lost $500, you have built up more ev than your buddy who didn’t play at all.
@@skyedge3407 What's happening in real life is you have a huge sample of people that are attempting to make money by playing a losing game. Some of them get rich, but most of them don't. The casino makes money on average, the player loses money on average. It's like the lottery, there will be people that win. It doesn't make playing the lottery a good idea. Casino staff that ban winning gamblers are running into the same fallacy as everyone else and ruining their own casino's action because they don't understand math. But oh well, it's so easy to make money running a casino that they don't really have to care to squeeze every dollar out of everyone. And technically it's more likely that the winning players are APs (or worse, cheaters) than that the losing players are - so you could also call that "better safe than sorry".
What you're failing to recognize is that you'e looking at that coin ONLY being flipped when you play.... BUT, think of it as the coin is being flipped 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you are entering and leaving a coin flip after hundreds or thousands of flips before you sat down at the table. So, you're not looking to be up 6 flips heads after 2 days JUST when you're there to see the flips... you're looking to walk away when you're up 3 flips of heads during that session of flips which were thousands of flips after your yesterdays flips.
Hey Colin ! I enjoy watching the videos on this channel. One quick question : "For the math to work, do card counters wait to get in on a blackjack table to start playing only when a new shoe is started ? I guess if one gets inbetween, the math might not work. Am I right? Do lemme know.
You can only count if you know the count. You can either wait till a new shoe is started or be there already at the beginning of a new shoe and keep track till your ready to play then hop in mid shoe. There is no other way.
I leave tables after I’m up a few hundred. Not because i think I’m resetting a clock or anything. By that time I’m up 300-600 bucks i been playing for around 9-12 hours. I’m hungry i have to pee and my back starts to hurt.
I played roulette for my first time last time, it went well and I started betting heavily. Security was already eye balling me and it was my first time
I was sent to Lake Charles to work for a month and each week for 4 weeks I would go to a casino to play blackjack on Tuesday night. I sat a limit of winning $200 per night playing a 3 to 2 table with a miminum bet of $10 ...... I used the double down if I lost betting system. In four weeks I won 3 out of 4 times. One reason is many people keep playing until all their winnings are all gone because they don't know when to stop. In about 2 hours I would hit my $200 goal and ask for a free buffet, eat and go back to the hotel. As a result I was $600 ahead for the month. I would only bring $100 to the table so that was the max out of pocket if I loss. A MAN MUST KNOW HIS LIMITATIONS was once said by Clint Eastwood and he was right .......
When I saw the title, I thought you'd seen a post I made on FB. People there have asked me how I make a living in casinos. I play blackjack and craps and only with between $350 and $400 at each casino. However, i play at five to six casinos per week. I have made big money playing craps in a couple of days but, those are not close together. I made $14,000 profit at one casino and $18,000 at another, playing craps and blackjack. The $14,000 was at a brick and mortar, over two days and the $18,000 was over five days aboard a cruise ship. I have made my living in casinos since the 1990s, with mostly craps but, peppering in blackjack, so I'm always interested in new casino techniques to win.
Agreed. And if it was this easy.. everyone would be doing it and the Old Timers would still be running Blackjack Teams, i.e. MIT, etc. or its offshoots.
But there IS such a thing as player burnout, where someone sits there getting ass-pounded after they've become too tired to retain the necessary concentration.
Mr Colin, around the 3:50 mark you start talking about the BJ odds. You know it, I know it, and God knows that the odds change with every single card that is dealt from the deck or decks. Please explain to everyone how the odds vary for example on a double deck game with 3 players if 6 aces show up on the first hand versus if not a single ace shows on the first two hands of play. There is a huge swing in the players' favor here.
I bet min 100 a hand, max 1000 when i hit certain amount. I back off the moment i lose 2 hands in a row. Go for a smoke come back for a couple of round before calling it quit. Some day i make 1000, some day 20 to 30 grand.
If you quit every time you get aces then you're not playing perfectly to gain the advantage over the house. You still have a long run, overall advantage by playing negative counts, but depending on how often you play them your win percentage will vary.
On the first day with you betting on heads, 3 heads ahead, you walk away with $300, next day bet on tails instead of heads, and when you are ahead 3 tails, you walk away. This strategy will workout in the long run, mathematically 75% of the time. Care to reply to this?
What this guy wont tell you, is that short sessions with small wins, can stop you from getting backed off, and allow your income stream to continue. This guy is an expert of teaching people how to get kicked out of casinos.
There is a fine line doing it than talking about it. He may have "facts" but at the end of the day, we have the "results". The whole point is to be up and beating the casino, as long as you are making cash. I don't see the problem if you're willing to leave right away if you make a days pay or week in a few minutes to hrs. So what's the point? If it's how much you didn't have before, leave before it's too late. That greed or ego will get in the way.
Also, if you quit after a short period of time, you're les likely to experience burnout and make mistakes. You will be in a better mental state when you decide to return for another short session.
What about fat tail risk? Having an edge of 2% means you never should bet over 2% of your bankroll per bet or you will go bust eventually. Easy to say it's profitable then you will win, but follows a multi period model and bet sizing is integral to the strategy.
This video answered an entirely different question than I was expecting. I'm curious if by playing to get up some small amount, then moving on you would avoid back-offs and be able to get more total hours in than you would by playing until you get backed every time.
I have 2 questions: 1. Can you have an advantage over the house only with basic strategy (without counting cards)? 2. Is doubling when your hand value is 9 or 10 really a good move? I always lose when i do that. Also, standing when your hand value is 12 or 13 don't feel that good.
1) No. Even with the most liberal rules casinos maintain a miniscule edge with basic strategy without employing the strategies that come with card counting ( which are betting variations and play deviations made according to count). 2) Yes - especially against low cards. Regarding any hand all you can do is know, follow and trust the strategy.
i am new on blackjack i am trying to find the ods of every play... difficul with out mathematics the dstrategy chart is very important .... on the casino i cant count cards because the card are always mixed so i will stay with strategy chart only...... my advice are.... and correct me if i am wrong you never play over an amount of time.... for me 2 hours is ok after 2 hours you play with more mistakes and you give the opportunity to the casino to win over you always go with a specific amount of money.... for example 200$ (€ for me) never change the bet .... for example if you start with 10$ bet you finish with 10$ bet (rise only with split and double) always enjoy the game .... helps focusing the money on your wallet considered them lost
You have to count very precise. If after the first hand 5 aces are gone. Not only will the true count go down. It will go increasingly faster. Since 1 ace out of 8 is higher with two decks Then 1 ace out of 24.
That happens with me a lot... some times I win over 500% but I end up coming down to 100 ou 150% and some times I come up losing everything. I keep telling myself I wont do it again but keep doing it. I can not quit when it's favorable
Some days you got to keep playing until you win. On these desperate days you can be playing for hours. This professional practice could be hard to beat at times. It's all about raising and lowering bets at the right time.
I don’t know if I agree with basic strategy completely because I think it’s too risky and I feel that the casinos benefit from them. For example, basic strategy says to hit a 12 when the dealer shows a 12 or 13. 10/11 times, I’d bust when I hit on a 12 from my personal experience. And of course if I bust first, I lose, regardless of whether or not the dealer busts. Another strategy I disagree with is always splitting 8s. If the dealer shows a 10 or even a 9, why do that and have more probability of losing both hands? A third strategy I disagree with is always doubling down when the player has 11 points. I feel that I’m pretty sure to win if I hit those hands, but not when a dealer shows a 9-A. Thanks for your great videos. Thoughts anyone?
You can play basic strategy which was made by simulating millions of hands to achieve the math or you can play by your gut feeling, it’s your money, do what you want. I don’t like playing by gut anymore, as a gambler and not a AP I’ve done way better playing BS than “gut-feeling” blackjack.
what if you are looking at $300 as your "closed bank roll" some days you play for an 1 hour some days you play for 24 hours. But the next day you come back with your new bank roll looking to close at $300.
I done 500 in one day and guess what? I lose it the next 3 days with the same palsy style. Blackjack is a variance game, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Please don’t go back trying to make more money out of it.
Playing on your phone until you get a losing streak to reset your luck is some insane troll logic lol
Wow 😳 🤩 straight genius
@J Gav I think the fact that you play on your phone *until* a certain streak happens kinda invalidates the math.
Money management is very important, because winning streaks should be levered to the fullest extent possible, while minimizing bets on losing streaks.
So true
James Clary same principles used in stock trading. Some people initially risk 2% of total capital on 1 trade. If correct can sell some stock to pocket profit. If all the 2% lost get out of the trade altogether and reenter trade with an edge on another day.
Blackjack unlike high concentration games like poker, yiu can have a few drinks 50/50 and whatever!
Its soooo hard to leave...i've had one good shoe up 500 only to have 5 bad and loose it all.
The casino would LOVE for you to come in every day.
Not if your ripping them off
🤣🤣🤣
If you lose, yes. If you win a lot, you'll get the tap on the shoulder at most casinos.
Not if you're a AP
If you play advantage, the casinos actively find ways to try to kick out out. They often don't even care how immoral the methods they take to kick people out are. I've heard of some pretty bad horror stories from advantage players. Which is why I like to stick to poker and play black jack occasionally at places I know I will never go to again.
Colin, you are by far the best and most reliable BJ advisor for ordinary players like me. Thanks!
Come again?
SPELL. BLACKJACK. OUT. ALWAYS.

Thats me. That’s why I quit long ago.
@@jjnguyen8809 haha. True. If you think like that, maybe you'll end up loosing even more lol.
Yesterday, yes I feel it
There is one other aspect of this though.
Geez. Was it ho chunk in Wisconsin Dells by chance!? 😅
Change “win” to “lose” you got exactly the strategy the casino employs to make big money: let people spend a lot of time in your place, to allow the probability which is in the houses’s favour stack up and even out any potential big wins for people who got lucky.
This , yip 💯
Some card counters flatbet during a negative shoe, waiting for the shuffle... but the card flow may never change, it can be another negative shoe for the card counter.... so it's best to just leave the game!
Today I was back counting and for the first time ! I had the count right counted about 3-4 decks. With a running 12 was to scared to bet more the 3x my bet however I am proud I had a good count. Bunch of high card started to come out !
But how about when it's 8 or 9 decks like I had last night
Divide your running count by 8/9 … not that hard lol 💀
@@pjpokerpete divide running count by total # of decks.
The odds are against you and eventually variance will catch up
@@ststst981 if I sit down with 10 hands worth of money I quit if I get down 5 hands. So I never lose more than half my money.

@@timsatterfield9752 you bet pre hand though how do you know its going to be +1 or better?

@@silvermediastudio Perfectly said.
That's exactly what I think how would "LUCK" possibly know what streak you are on at any given time.

It’s worked so far for me🤷🏼♂️
What % of casinos in the U.S have beatable rules nowadays?
i go to the casino, im a college student, and i just play to play.

Counting cards? I thought that's how you supposed to play.. now I'm really interested 🤔 Can I get information on bootcamp
Marty I recommend that you start with the website www.blackjackapprenticeship.com/
And go from there.
It's worked for me 90 % of the time
Thank you
This is very true
This comment couldn’t be further from the truth, losing or winning 10 times in a row has nothing to do with the next hand, but the cards already played does affect it
Sorry you like feel that way
You don't understand.
The right strategy could offset things in your favor but you will take some losses.
the key is knowing when to leave being up or down
Roulette has 0 skill.
Play till you’re on top and feel that’s it for the day. Don’t expect to come in to win millions. If you come in with 500 and up 1000, walk your butt out. Reset and come back later that day or tomm.
What does every body need .
What does every body want..
A lot of that has to do with greed...after being up you want more and more and more....treat gambling as a business get in for 15-20 minutes and get out the longer you stay the greater the odds your gonna be in the hole
Yes it works i was on a 2 and half year winning streak until they changed the rules to stop me from winning.
What rules?
I agree it works. I’ve won 8K in 5 consecutive days. Most recently 5K in one day.
Your explanation is very similar to the daily/weekly/monthly flow of a day trader. Eventually the market will get its share.
cuz probability games are just the same no matter the field
at 1:40, how do you calculate that the odds of being ahead 3 tails is over 75%?
the distribution of the #head-tails is a Gaussian, so being ahead any number of tail (or head) is defenitly less that 50% (the area under the half of the bell shape Gaussian curve)
Its probably not talking about 3 flips in a row. Maybe a certain time for an average session you want to play while counting
I know it's 3y ago. But he means overall for the day your up 3 bets. Not in a row. Man's knew all the math, no comprehension
also the side bet here in Florida is "the match" .....i play the match and I generally play 3 hands at the same time....between the bonus and my hands.....easy to make a couple of $100
Finally! A new video! Great stuff, thank you!
I just did this 3 days in a row… made quite a big bank roll to support my future visits next week. I left each day once I had doubled my money.
Hey Tyler, just wondering, how do you play so that you don't get backed off? Could you give me a few pointers?
@@randomperson6215 You need to play like you are a normal blackjack player, not a card counter. The BlackJack Apprentice teaches a betting method that is almost psychotic in nature, based on another UA-camr who detailed his experiences as a BlackJack counter under BJA's tutelage. Watching those videos as a counter, two things were glaringly obvious.
1) BJA knows how to count cards
2) BJA does NOT know what subtle means.
@@tylerdurden639 Your edge isn't enough betting a 1-2 spread lmao. There's a reason he wins hundreds of thousands and you are likely negative
Sorry Colin, but I’ve actually done that. And it worked. I look for tables where there are excellent players and sit at them. Once I’m up a goal I set I leave.
thanks for the tips Petyr Baelish
The only other strategy to beat the casino is: Leaving at a winning streak and never EVER entering a casino again.
What % of casinos in the U.S are still beatable?
Odds of being ahead 3 heads are 1/2^3 = 1/8 or 12.5%
But you're not betting you'll win 3 heads, you're betting 3 times you'll get heads on a single flip.
Best Wishes
Neil
Those times are when you should quit while ahead
yes it's possible, here's how:
1. have alot of money
2. be lucky
3. leave once you're out of luck (which nobody does)
So a related question.
Love your vids and the membership. one day could you explain how to or when to spend your profits.
Violenza Fantastica yup, you clearly haven’t watched it yet.
This is a great channel for telling you that gambling is a mugs game. Clever and appreciated!!

I leave tables after I’m up a few hundred. Not because i think I’m resetting a clock or anything. By that time I’m up 300-600 bucks i been playing for around 9-12 hours. I’m hungry i have to pee and my back starts to hurt.
Do you restart the count when a new shoe of cards is delt?
Yes
I played roulette for my first time last time, it went well and I started betting heavily. Security was already eye balling me and it was my first time
Interesting shirt for a guy who takes casinos ;) love it
I was sent to Lake Charles to work for a month and each week for 4 weeks I would go to a casino to play blackjack on Tuesday night.
I've never been up a few hundred bucks a day ever haha
There is no such thing as Day #1, Day #2 , Day #3 etc with a casino.
Statistically speaking, it is all the same day.
Bigga Winna Crapsa true, but it’s the casino which profits from that, not the others at the table.
michaelterry1000 Statistically speaking, before the first card in each game is dealt, it’s all the same game!
There is a huge swing in the players' favor here.
a concept that is so hard for the ploppy masses to understand...
I bet min 100 a hand, max 1000 when i hit certain amount. I back off the moment i lose 2 hands in a row. Go for a smoke come back for a couple of round before calling it quit. Some day i make 1000, some day 20 to 30 grand.
What if you quit everytime you get a pair of aces? Or if the count gets to negative 3 or worse? That way the deck resets when you come back.
He is telling the truth though.
Best example ever with the coin flip. 👍👍
This video answered an entirely different question than I was expecting. I'm curious if by playing to get up some small amount, then moving on you would avoid back-offs and be able to get more total hours in than you would by playing until you get backed every time.
I have 2 questions:
1. Can you have an advantage over the house only with basic strategy (without counting cards)?
2. Is doubling when your hand value is 9 or 10 really a good move? I always lose when i do that. Also, standing when your hand value is 12 or 13 don't feel that good.
Well u have to stand if basic strategy says so
1) No. Even with the most liberal rules casinos maintain a miniscule edge with basic strategy without employing the strategies that come with card counting ( which are betting variations and play deviations made according to count).
2) Yes - especially against low cards. Regarding any hand all you can do is know, follow and trust the strategy.
i am new on blackjack i am trying to find the ods of every play... difficul with out mathematics
the dstrategy chart is very important .... on the casino i cant count cards because the card are always mixed so i will stay with strategy chart only......
my advice are.... and correct me if i am wrong
you never play over an amount of time.... for me 2 hours is ok
after 2 hours you play with more mistakes and you give the opportunity to the casino to win over you
always go with a specific amount of money.... for example 200$ (€ for me)
never change the bet .... for example if you start with 10$ bet you finish with 10$ bet (rise only with split and double)
always enjoy the game .... helps focusing
the money on your wallet considered them lost
Collin, i know that in double deck the basic strategy is slightly different than it is or a regular 6 shoe deck. Is this true?
You have to count very precise. If after the first hand 5 aces are gone. Not only will the true count go down. It will go increasingly faster.
Since 1 ace out of 8 is higher with two decks
Then 1 ace out of 24.
That happens with me a lot... some times I win over 500% but I end up coming down to 100 ou 150% and some times I come up losing everything. I keep telling myself I wont do it again but keep doing it. I can not quit when it's favorable
Gambling is entertainment for 99.99% of people and that’s what it is for. Very, very few people can make a career in gambling.
I highly disagree but I'm just happy and grateful theres people like you that keep casinos alive
Some days you got to keep playing until you win. On these desperate days you can be playing for hours. This professional practice could be hard to beat at times. It's all about raising and lowering bets at the right time.
When it comes to getting 2 aces: always split.
Ns
did this yesterday and got 10 for both
It works I’m up on my local casino two grand in less than a year and $900 today in one and a half hours
What you're leaving out is you can play on the 10 or 15 dollar table during the losing streak and bet 100 when you're winning
You never know when streaks start and end. You can't run away from Variance.
@@blackjack-winner fair point. I just blew a massive run so bad I'm horrified over it. I literally missed out on 30k.
Please don’t go back trying to make more money out of it.
please address the idea of a betting progression's affect on the EV/AV as a strategy to get an advantage in the odds.
