Art’s Impact - 40 Years of Junior Docents at The Dalí
May 1, 2024
Join us for this installment of our Coffee with a Curator series, where Museum Staff or invited guests speak on a range of Dalí-inspired topics.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of The Dalí’s Junior Docent program, Sumaya Ayad, the Museum’s School Programs Manager, will be joined by several current and former Junior Docents as she explores the lasting impact of a youth arts program. Guests will learn about the inception, history and expansion of the program.
Sumaya Ayad joined The Dalí in February 2022 as School Programs Manager within the Museum’s Education Department. Having completed numerous museum internships in her undergraduate and graduate careers, Sumaya earned a Master’s Degree in Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies from FSU at age 22. She previously held positions as a teacher and office manager at Nur Academy in Sarasota and as a STEAM Education Specialist at The Leonardo Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah.
At The Dalí, Sumaya is the link between the Museum and K-12 schools, driving strategy for and overseeing student programs, while also contributing to the educational initiatives of the Museum. Namely, Sumaya manages three programs, Junior Docents, Fashion Design at The Dalí and Teen Voices, in which she introduces students to the world of Dalí through a variety of artistic lenses. In addition to managing these programs, Sumaya is a co-facilitator of Innovation Labs at The Dalí, professional development workshops driven by creative problem solving. Sumaya has a passion for continued education, inclusivity and, of course, art history.
