The worst I ever saw on that show was Darrel finding an (original) xbox and proclaiming "that's a hundred dollar bill, right there." No cables or anything, just the console.
kniferaffe More like a 10 dollar bill ._.
kniferaffe and on the EXACT same show Barry Weiss threw one out like it was a dirty mattress or some shit... I don't get it
ironically, on storage wars Texas though, the Blonde girl found and n64 complete with controllers and a couple games, one of which being SM64. she said she'd do $25 on it. gotta love how the girl who restores furniture and antiques who probably hasn't played a single game in her life knows a fair price while they guy selling everything at swap meets knows nothing about out it
*****
Well here's the thing about that show. There is ZERO fact checking. So if Barry, the only honest one on the show, says an item is worth 5 bucks they add 5 bucks to their total graphic. If Dave Hestor, a lying piece of crap, says it's $40,000...... the EXACT same thing, they add $40,000 to the total.
Also note that it's the total value, not how much money they actually make, because if it was, these guys would be in negative totals each week.
You guys can lay into shows like American Pickers and Pawn Stars on the History channel, but unlike these garbage reality shows on other networks, they actually check their prices to make sure they don't look like fools. A&E, ironically doesn't seem to care.
kniferaffe I literally saw an Xbox console at a pawn shop priced at $3 as a clearance item.
RileySkye100 Well, an original Xbox's biggest selling point was the online factor. Without that it is going to be seen as just a piece of really outdated technology. Granted, most go for 35 to 50 dollars. If I were you I would've probably picked that $3 Xbox up.

Pat I have some bad news buddy.
have you heard of rasputin?
@Its Always Sunny In Portlandia it’s almost over now
Ahh, Storage Wars. The only show where you'll hear something like "Let's see what we got. Mattresses...mattresses...destroyed clothes...a bureau...mattresses...the arc of the covenant...clothes...a coffee table..." Such a believable show.
I work at a game store in Denver and got a call Sunday night about a guy who had a North American copy of Stadium Events and was wondering if we would be interested in purchasing it.. I figured it was either going to be the PAL version, a repro, or it was just a prank call in general, but on Monday, dude comes in with an authentic north american copy of Stadium Events. Story was that his father bought it for him as a child, and he had no idea it was worth anything until his friend mentioned some rare NES games that were worth a bunch of money.. We settled on a price with him and now own the copy of Stadium Events.. Still in complete disbelief..

15 years ago I found an NES and about 5 games in the closet of an apartment I moved into. It was pushed back on the shelf out of view and most likely forgotten. Still works. :)
its crazy what people leave behind when moving that is basically finding a hidden diamond to you.
Just watching this in 2021 and when you said “If this is a Stadium Events NTSC this would be worth 2 or $3,000” made me chuckle
This just in, Duck Hunt / Mario on NES eleventy million kajillion dollars! Holy shit.
I'm thinking total conspiracy theory here: The game store loaned the carts to SW producers, they were planted in the unit, Darrel was told where to get them appraised, and the negotiation was completely staged. The store hyper-inflated the value because A) more value equals better TV...and B) someone will recognize the shop from the show & will go there looking for the games (back from on loan) now for sale at the hyper-inflated prices (The store prob has multiple copies of each cart featured on the show)
lol he referred to himself about him being on pawn stars trying to sell his NWC carts lol
That was priceless lol
I know this is off topic, but I got super happy and excited when I saw Ian was wearing a Daniel Johnston shirt!!!!
It was Storage Wars Season 06 Episode 21 if anyone wants to know.
Trolls in Crazy Land = Internet: The Game
ThePreciseClimber I laughed
Ian Ferguson hahaha, so true
one episode, they had a guitar that was valued at $2000, it's $500 brand new
There is a guy where I live who sells common games for like 65 bucks and hand writes the price in sharpy on the game cartridge and sometimes on the label. SMH...
Love the Daniel Johnston shirt buddy...;)
"I don't know Pat, maybe? probably not." I loved that reaction for some reason.
Hi guys, a perspective from Finland. Titles like Power Blade 2, Zombie Nation and Bonk's Adventure are pretty much impossible to collect unless you buy them from eBay. They go for around 300 bucks each nowadays, and if you want to collect here in the land of Mr. Gimmicks (which is around 300 bucks here) - you just gotta pay. And there are a shitloads of collectors like me here now with enough money and passion to pay for those. So that said, it's not THAT black and white, but I understand your point totally. I personally don't think it's a lot of money to spend 300-500 bucks on a game you play, rather than drink it over one weekend here in one of the most expensive countries (regarding alcohol at least) in the world. Keep it up, excellent podcast! :)
I give them a little credit for a least staging this in a smaller game store rather than trying to set it up in a Game Stop doing the soft launch of their retro buy-back program. "Stadium Events, Snow Bros? I dunno man, we can do maybe $3 cash or $4 in store credit."
I remember seeing pat on pawn stars
The shop owner were probably told to triple their offer because it makes better tv
mrbitbot That, and they knew the show would give them the money back, plus they might have been paid to be on camera, and then signed a NDA, so they could not talk about their experience on the show.
Yeah like saying, some crusty nike 90s socks are worth thousands because it came in a different off color. Its Asinine, price is made depending on how well you can make it sound rare and good
One reason I love watching Ian and Pat, getting shit straight and I love their attitude.
One other thing to mention. I use pricecharting to guage online values of games. I have an almost complete collection of NES games. I go to estate sales, garage sales, and flea markets every weekend for the last 15 years. I find that regular NES is few and far between. I see them more often at flea markets, but they are usually either common titles, or they are charging close to/more what they go for online. The pricecharting (or average eBay sales price) of the rare games in that storage lot is about $1889. The system and the 40 common games I would value at about $250. Bringing the grand total of that lot to $2139. This is an online sale value for these games based on the average prices that they sell for in good condition. I am not sure how much the price has changed since this video 3 years ago though. Online is top of the market price for paying for games, but it is also the safest. If I pay a lot at flea market and then go home and find that the game doesn't work, or that it was repaired, etc. then I have little chance of getting a refund. Because of buyer protection on eBay this doesn't happen.
Ian, you constantly mock people who pay high prices for rare games. But aren't you the worst offender paying the amount you did for the NWC carts? *EDIT* I meant to say Pat, not Ian.
Peter Piper hi i don't own any nwc carts ok take care
Sorry Ian, I meant to say Pat. I'd like to know on what basis he feels entitled to keep mocking people who pay top dollar for rare games, when his NWC cart purchases are about as top dollar and rare as it gets.
Peter Piper Way to simplify and misconstrue things I've said in the past, Pete.
Peter Piper actually no, those carts are very fucking hard to obtain, if you ask me i would pay x amount of money if i had x amount of money to have one becuase of how hard they are to get, said cart is an honor and a presteige to own.
kyle chilton NWC carts are not hard to obtain. Contact any NWC cart owner and ask them to name their price. Boom, you're an NWC cart owner.
Its always been fairly damn obvious that its staged and the people involved are truly awful actors!
***** my GF loves the show... and im like facepalming every 5 seconds or so... i will make her listen to pat's story to see if that helps.
The $ sign goes in front of the number, not after
@eissari4, well technically it does because $ is a dollar sign and you're basically saying 10,000 - 20,000 dollar signs.
sneaky johnson with pawn stars im guessing I'm very curious as to why pat was on Pawn Stars? But nonetheless very cool I noticed him on that episode
I work for a storage company and can say that most of the units that go up for auction have junk in them. In 4 years of working storage, I've only seen one or two instances of the buyer coming out with something crazy. Even then, it wasn't stashes of gold or rare collectibles. More like a nice collection of china.
There have been video games. One guy found a Sega Saturn, N64, and a old Genesis with games, connections, and controllers. The games were mostly junk sports titles. Still a cool find.
Ian's got on a Daniel Johnston shirt, nice.
Pat, if A&E, or some other network approached you about doing a tv show based on the Flea Market Madness series premise (i.e. perusing flea markets, swap meets, and other bazaars for nostalgic collectibles relevant to your generation), would you do it?
***** Only if Frank was on board with me!
Pat the NES Punk YESSSSSSS.
Pat the NES Punk i love flea market madness. by far the best thing on youtube right behind videogame years.
***** They wouldn't do it unless he was a reseller of the items he finds. For some reason reality TV for things like antiques, collectables, retro items, thrifting only matter to TV networks when they can see large amounts of ridiculous money moving for items found. There really isn't a "Collectors show", they all feature resellers. Toy Hunter, Storage Wars, Thrift Hunters, Antique Warriors, the list goes on... all about selling, not merely buying and finding awesome stuff for personal collections. The only "collector" show I ever seen was to shame people for collecting "too much" and some lady would come in and basically make them sell their stuff. I think it was called "Collection Intervention", so again, it's back to selling, money moving.
***** btw if you ever watch Thrift Hunters, that show is basically eBay reseller cancer. Prepare to be angry.
Thumbs up for the Daniel Johnston shirt Ian.
Just received my DVDs and N64, Thanks Pat!
homerlover4420 You're welcome! Enjoy!
Pat, do you still have items for sale? If so what website do you sell on? Thank you
Thumbs up for Pat and Ian to appear at SGC this year, forward this on to get them to appear.
I know I guy who was offered a spot on the show as an appraiser, basically he'd give them a rare comic and they'd show his shop and talk about how good it is when they show up to ask how much his comic is worth.
Things change. Time changes everything. People bitching about prices. Yet
Pat you wouldn't have a UA-cam channel of people didn't find games interesting
The market is always supply and demand
So many retro items go up in value. Cards clothes antiques. Why not video games ?
I didn't collect video games first. I collected cards comics and action figures and never complained about prices going up
Cause that is the nature of the beast
Be happy value is there
***** We weren't "bitching about prices." We were bitching about the blatant misrepresentation of the actual prices and giving false vaules. Go back and watch again.
***** GOT SCHOOLED BITCH~!
0:07 "there was some asshole who went on pawnstars trying to sell nintendo world champion cart" lol XD...pat.
This is the first episode I watched and you got me to subscribe based on it - well done!
Their is this guy on UA-cam that used to make storage auction videos because he used to be in the business. And he would have people emailing him saying he didn't know what he was talking about because he would buy storages that didn't have anything in them sometimes and would have to take that as a loss. And they would watch Storage Wars and say you are not doing it right because these guys on tv get a great storage every time.
He would laugh and say well that is a tv show and not real life and I know how it's really like. He got out of that business just in time because it was right before these tv shows came on. Now the business is swarming with people thinking they'll make a quick buck that learn quickly it's not like that.
Ian wearing that Daniel Johnston shirt.
I'm not the only one that noticed haha
Cool Daniel Johnston shirt.
Storage wars find items every week that anyone doing this in real life find in 1 out 100. That part is staged as hell, but a show that only found Christmas decorations most of the time would not stay on the air long.
this storage wars pod casts reminds me of the time my grandparents had friends that ran a similar thing in conjunction with the local flea market
the rule was that if a person was x amount of payments behind on their rent the entire storage unit was auctioned off as a whole
well the friends of my grandparents bid and won a unit and upon sorting through the items of the unit, there in the back was a dead body wrapped in cellophane
I was just at a garage sale this past weekend, and bought a bunch of games off some older couple who said their kids didn't play with them anymore. Ended up buying quite a bit, mostly DS and pokemon games, and asked if they had any more. The father was like "Oh, no these games are worth money. I saw that storage wars episode. I told my kid to start googling the rest of his games to see what he had" I just shook my head.....especially when he said "He might have a thousand dollar game."...no...I can guarantee you he doesn't.
It's the bullshit that these people said at their "STORE" saying it's worth 3 grand, that make people think their games are worth 100x more than what they are....
Seriously sick of this scripted storage wars / pawn stars BS. I admit though....I find them strangely addictive to watch.
Some idiot opened a retro gaming store in my town last year that didn't know anything about prices. After hearing about several people buying rare games from him for way below value he removed the prices from everything in the store. If you wanted to buy something he went online to see what it was priced at on ebay and told you the price based on that. His store didn't last too long.
Great enlightening video,Pat!! I like Storage Wars TV show a lot!
SO obvious that the unit was salted. Why would someone have nothing but rare titles packed all together with a system and not have at least one or two common games in with them? Yeah they also just so happened to be some of the rarest of the rare?? COME ON!! Hell, they may as well have thrown a Dino's peak, Peek a boo poker, and a Little Samson in there too!!! They simply found someone who is a collector and said, hey we wanna do an episode about a rare game find, can we borrow your games to make the viewers think that we actually found them? lol
So much of old video game prices are so inflated these days because of stuff like this and it sucks since I don't really know of any local stores where I can get retro games and I have to deal with this stuff. I am actually going to quote Rick from Pawn Stars when I say "Just because it is old doesn't mean it is valuable."
Pat the NES punk, first i wish to say , great video mate... i'm from Europe i have really big nintendo collection, and have complete PAL nes set (carts) all games in mint condition, also i look all storage wars i mean all, texas, canada, california all ... so after i see this episode i agree with all what you and your friend say's in this video, but you forget one thing... as i'm big seller and buyer i buy lot's of lot's and there is no chance that first common lot include this PAL games, LOT stay in storage from long time probably original buyer buy for his kids back in 90's so lot include zombie nation , but PAL games i think NO. what heppend here is that they wind lot with common games plus few nice titles like zombie nation and show know from last time when moron bollelo or something like that find NES 001 where guy in shop told him for stadium events game... and idiots from show remember that when darell find this lot so they go online and find that stadium event is most rare game , so what happend from that point; they decide to buy stadium event and put it in lot when darell came in shop, so the look online for stadium events and see that price is just too high also it's rare so they can't buy it, so they buy repro or PAL because it is available and they think it's same thing. So why they do that? because show is fake and now we finally have proof that YUPPPP guy say's true, they wish to make show more interest but they made mistake with whis game because we know better... so that is what i think and there is answer why this episode have no sense, they find NTSC lot with common games and few rare titles but PAL games is added by show to make episode ineteresing, sory for my english i'm not from USA or UK it's not my first language
You might enjoy the episode of Storage Wars where Darrell takes some Magic cards to a game convention. The dealer offers him $650 and he takes it. Problem is, cards were worth probably 10x the price. Obviously a fake dealing as the cards were really new vs a few expensive old cards to salt the locker. I have not seen a single collection like it ever.
This is EXACTLY what has been driving me nuts lately. I craigslist just saw some "uber collection" that was really just 75 low-end carts w/ maybe a few medium-rares in the mix(bubble bobble 1, donkey kong classics, etc). All in pretty bad shape based on what I saw....and the guy refused to provide a list. and DEMANDED $1500. When I emailed him about it he got snarky and called me a lowballer, when I never even made an offer. I simply asked him for a list of the games and expressed concern that based on the pics I saw no ultra rare games that would command a $1500 price ticket. He responds back again with "I just sold the lot for $1500, asshole". Yeah. I'm sure.
The store from the episode is Video Game Geeks on Facebook...
Nice, Daniel Johnston
Can you be honest about the Pawn Stars episode bro? You wasn't really gonna sell those games right? Btw love your work
What are you doing under that table?
lmao, that's just fuckin' crazy! Man, I absolutely LOVE this CUPodcast. It's just awesome! Pat, and Ian, you guys are great! Please keep this shit up, and NEVER stop. #PatTheNESPunk #CUPodcast
This UA-cam channel is just GREAT though! Definitely unique, and AWESOME! Keep it up, Pat, and Ian.
I've ran storage facilities across the country and we have auctions every single month. I have seen maybe two units in that entire time that had anything truly valuable. 99.9% of them are beds and couches.
My guess is the shop owners were told to up the prices to make it more "exciting". Once the cameras were off they were probably just given the collection for their time and lies.
Will there be a part 2 of this video cause it seems like there was more to say?
The most laughable "find" on Storage Wars was where they found a 800 class R/C helicopter (i.e. a really big one) set up for aerial photography. The things wrong with that were that they had 6S 5000mah lipo batteries sitting in storage that were apparently fully charged (lipos have to be discharged to 3.8v per cell before storage or they destroy themselves, and there was no charger in the unit so they couldn't have charged them) they acted like it would only be valuable if it worked (in reality all of the equipment and electronics on that rig was worth a lot of money whether or not it was in flyable condition) and they had some guy come out and just pick up the radio and test fly it without spending the time necessary to go though the radio setup to see how the owner had the model configured (he was obviously the actual owner of this equipment if he could just pick up the transmitter and take off)
I fly big radio controlled model helicopters myself and I can tell you that nobody can just pick up the radio and fly someone else's model without going over the setup first.
I wish Pat talked normal like this during his normal reviews. He speaks well and is interesting and doesn't need corny jokes to hold interest.
I think that the Spike TV show where they buy storage units, Auction Hunters, was around before Storage Wars. And even though its staged too, its a better show. I don't mind the fact that the negotiations are staged in shows like Pawn Stars and the items are basically prescreened, because the point of it is learning about the history of the stuff. What I really hate in these types of shows are the ones like Lizard Lick Towing and other repo shows where its obviously staged reenactments or maybe made up altogether. And yeah, people see stuff on these shows and immediately think their stuff is worth way more than it is. My father in law told me he has an NES and a box of games in the upper level of his garage. And he's the ultimate bullshitter. I told him his games probably aren't worth much but you never know if you might have a gem. Then I mentioned Stadium Events and the Nintendo World Championship games and how they're super rare and how crazy it would be if he had one. And he said "Oh yeah, I have that one." I don't even have to look to know he doesn't.
I used to like the original storage unit show, Auction Hunters. Grew tired after it all became the same thing. I always thought the Storage War shows were bad, it seems if any tv show is successful (like Auction Hunters was) within a year multiple spin offs will debut. now there's like what 3 storage war shows plus the original? It's pretty obvious they add items to the units too, you can tell when someone buys a unit full of clothes, furniture, appliances, toys, then out of the blue find like 5 shotguns.
hey pat nice vid was wondering were I can get that art u have in the background of the black and blue M16 thanks
Pat, is that a Golgo 13 nes wall scroll behind you? where did you get it?
One time on storage wars they found a box of old shoes. rare Jordans and such. The box even had a pair of OG Tiffany SB dunks that go for like $2-3,000. They got a guy from a shoe store come and look them over and gave them like $500 for the box.
They were ecstatic like they ripped him off or something. Little did they know...
I think the treasure ( cartridges) come from the shop. The concept is simple , the expert gives or lends a treasure to the production and then the bidder returns to the expert and the expert say his text.
I remember one show they pulled out an original xbox and they said "we can get $200 for this." They constantly overprice everything on that show. Its ridiculous.
I had people coming in store like: I have a NES-001! OMG it's worth $12,000!! NOPE... you didn't even watch the show til the end... OMG.
You just broke my mom's heart, Pat! ;)
(Never knew a legitimate show couldn't use "salting")
PS: So, I guess it was ALL fake. How can anyone trust any item, or it's value that was advertised on the show?!
PPS: The show is still going.
Hi Pat, this made me remember the time you went to Pawn Stars with your NWC cart. This may sound like a really stupid question, but did you actually wanted to sell the cart at that moment?
The whole show is fake and is filmed on a studio lot. He already stated that it was a repro he brought in and just did the show to teach new people about the hobby/get some cash.
I left my stuff in my mom's locker up north cause I couldn't bring it with me. I had a good deal of very old video games I've had for years. Later, my mom ended up moving down by me but she still had the locker up north. She rented a U-haul truck and she got a load of stuff from the locker up north. I wanted to get the rest of my things but there wasn't enough room. Sadly though she let go of the locker while my things were still inside.
"Trolls in Crazyland" should be the name of the UA-cam comments section.
read on multiple sites that its all fake. people in the area say that the storage places get turned into a closed set, all the other people on the show are extras. i have to wonder if the auctioneers even get their % of the fake money being bid, or if everyones just all the shows payroll.
Okay, so I've never seen the episode so I need to ask. What exactly happened in the episode of Pawn Stars that Pat was on? Did it go badly?
The fact that those games would end up in one box in a storage unit in california is ridiculous.
I paid my niece' storage unit in San Diego until I left in 2011. Soon after, she was asking me for money because she was behind on the storage unit. My guess is that her's ended up on the market.
anybody notice how pat always loves to tell what rare stuff he's found at the swap meet or flea market - like any chance he gets to slip IT in "i found a zombie nation 10 yrs ago at the swap: OK PAT WE GET IT U CONSTANTLY FIND RARES
also to add to that, before you went to a unit auction there would be 5-7 people there, now at least 50, and have seen units that i woulnt want to spend $10 on go for $300+ cause they think theirs gonna be a civil war musket in them.
Monchichi stares into your soul.
Same with some mom and pop stores they see that and think automatically they have gold
I would like to support your store and buy something. Is there a website I can visit that will allow me to buy anything from your selection of games?
In the words of Jim Cornette "He's exposing the goddamn business" lmaoooo.
When I lived in Texas the guy who hooked up my net also gave me free basic cable (thanks anonymous cable guy from Texas!) and I got addicted to this show. However, I soon called BS on what they found lol. Funnier still is when Daryl found a DS Lite and some other stuff like sports games and claimed the sports/common games were worth like 20-50 each and the DS was like 150 plus! What dimension are they living in?
At 6:33 what is the guy on the left doing under the table? hahah
as of now price charting on the marquee titles is about $1300, not counting the NES & other 50 games
Pat, don't get me wrong. I love your podcast but you are being so hypocritical right now regarding your Pawn Stars appearance several years back. You had no intention of selling those two NWC games. Just saying.
ive been doing storage bin auctions for well over 20 years and ive found more human shit than gold or high end stuff...alot of the bins consist of ppl being evicted and the landlords literally dump the home into the unit down to refrigerators full of food to trash cans full of bloody tampons and shitty diapers...you do find good stuff but like these guys said its for flea market saLES OR AUCTION...and the ppl who show up now show up in cars many times im like how you gonna move this stuff...where you gonna sell it...they jump in w/ no infrastructure for storage sales or distribution no idea what it takes to do this and what theyve done is fuck it up for everyone else because they believe there is gold or some valuable somesuch
"Some asshole who went on Pawnstars trying to sell Nintendo World Championship carts" Yes Pat, we saw you on TV.
I've watched a few of those "looking for a quick buck, antiques & collectables" shows, and they really hike the price up to add some hype and potential suspense. The worst I saw was a rusty old bicycle, nothing particularly special, just your typical WWII era Schwinn in a really rough shape, that they claimed was "worth over $1000".
My bullshit detector was off the charts!
Appraisers are also prompted by the producers to give high estimates to the participants for entertainment value.
Yea one time they had 30 round mags for a ar 15 for $70 each when really they worth 15/20 bucks
Just for the fun of it here are two game related Storage Wars vids..the second link is the incident Pat and Ian are chatting about:

It's actually a lot faker than you think. The good stuff they 'find' in the storage lockers actually belongs to the 'experts'. All they are doing is pretending to find it in a locker, and bringing the stuff back to their owners. At which point the owners give a deceptive value to the items. This helps them in the future because people then come into their stores trying to buy items for close to the prices they quote without knowing they are being intentionally ripped off. I have a friend who has worked on at least 10 reality TV shows, and this is what he has told me.
every time i see that android commercial with the animals i want a pet tiger.
I actually got a nes from helping a relative clean their attic the other day. I offered to sell it for them and explained they could get £200. They said keep it and I quote 'if people are stupid enough to pay that much money for it then keep it and sell it in ten years.' The prices are over inflated. I know it, collectors know it, we all know it. Yet someone must be paying that much? I prefer the snes anyway >.< love the podcasts. #ianscynicismisinspirational
basically the video game version of the comic bubble from the 90s

Yeah. Like my favourite is when they find a storage locker with money hidden all over it. Like seriously, who is keeping money in a storage locker and letting it default?
I see another Daniel Johnston tshirt!
first off the NWC carts are in fact rare because they were given to the winners of the comp so there value are very much higher because its a custom cart so not many were produced so like other people has said supply and demand and condition of the games themself play a factor in the prices
+Steven Benson No shit.
"Not everyone dies"

So that was real when you were on pawn stars? I was curious if you were really trying to sell them or if the show contacted to do it just for show.
Hi Pat I have a question. I was going through my old games wanting to play them and came across Snow Bros. Me and my sister have played it for years as a kid. Could you give me a rough estimate of how much it worth in decent condition no box?? Thanks
